It's very unusual for Buck Palace to release a statement like they have isn't it?

I feel shocked in the sense of how one feels shocked when confronted with bad news.
I don't mean it in the sense of 'surprised'.

I feel the same.

My son appeared shocked when I told him as well.
Its a natural reaction when you're otherwise going about your day.

Any passing is tinged with sadness, but I think ‘heartbreakingly tragic’ is a step too far.

SafferUpNorth · 08/09/2022 16:30

I reckon her death will be announced this evening. This day was to be expected. She's had an amazing innings and lived to a ripe old age, bless her.

I agree that a 96 year old passing isn't 'tragic' in any way.

Nice for the family that they can just grab a private helicopter and pop up in record time. Unlike the rest of us.
Also we are paying for all those children to go to fancy schools.

I do not mind Elizabeth though. She's nice enough. I hope she's not in any pain

Give it a rest !!!

Openmouthinsertfood · 08/09/2022 16:36

Not a royalist either, but I really enjoyed her with Paddington Bear. Smile She has worked hard and has always been there. At Christmas, 'The Kings Speach,' doesn't sound right! It's such a shame. Sad

She isn’t a typical gran, she is a truly remarkable woman. For me she has deserved her pedestal through a life of unstinting public service.
Wealthy in her own right who could have declined the throne and the lifetime of publicity and mundane royal duties, but she didn’t. She has devoted her life to the service of this country and the other countries of which she is head of state. Serving with dignity, above politics and unstinting devotion.
I am truly grateful to her.

Wealthy in her own right!?! Really!!!???

Fundamentally she is no different to any other 90 year old and the fact people still view her as superior is frankly mind boggling.

something2say · 08/09/2022 16:41

I hope she has not died yet and all the coverage is fake.

But it was always going to happen. And now it is happening.

May God bless her soul.

This is history unfolding. I dont think we will ever have a monarchy like this again, because it is no longer appropriate. This is the passing of an age. We are moving into 'diversity within unity' and away from blindly looking up at figurehead, because they have been torn down.

As she passes, Charles will change things. That's my view anyway, and I hope she has not passed yet.

MidnightMeltdown · 08/09/2022 16:42

Very sad news about the Queen. She is our nations strength. Humble and gracious. She had more integrity in her little finger than any of our awful politicians.

Antarcticant · 08/09/2022 16:42

Gracelynn · 08/09/2022 16:17

Praying then that the Lord Jesus will comfort her.

That, God willing, her Children will also seek and be found by the Saviour.

I think all the senior royals profess to the Christian faith. Charles will become Head of the Church of England, as will William and George in their turn unless there are major reforms in the future.

That's me told.
Thank you for your illuminating suggestions.
I shall now calibrate my language accordingly.
Apologies for upsetting your personal sensitivities.

That says it all

News just said Meghan Markle is staying in London..Probably wise.
I think Catherine is in London, too?
It's surely for Close Family only, if HMTQ is looking very frail.

HM The Queen has very savvy accountants, and looks after her not inconsiderable wealth, but HM The Queen definitely has Devotion to Duty, and unlike the other shower of politicians, does seem more honourable.

Tallulasdancingshoes · 08/09/2022 16:59

I’m not surprised Catherine is staying at home. The children have just moved and started at a new school. William is there and that’s what’s important.

Sparklybutold · 08/09/2022 16:59

@PostmortemNow

‘Personal sensitivities?’ really - I think those of us who aren't bothered by the queens imminent passing aren't the ones with personal sensitivities. Again - people are talking about someone who literally gives no hoot about us mere plebs and yet you and others nauseatingly elevate her to god-like status. It is this hierarchical way of thinking that contributes to the massive inequalities in our society as we continue to have the untouchables and us - the plebs.

It's really not the world's worse (worst?) statement about a loved one's death. But I am of cool very happy to apologise to any members of the Royal Family who read this and are upset about it.

Completely agree…my husband was only 47 when he died, suddenly. So nothing like the Queen’s long life. Even so, he had a good life, which I said then and I say still, and I am never offended or upset if other say the same. While I’m not a cricketer, the phrase ‘a good innings’ generally means the batsman was at the wicket a long time, and scored plenty of runs. So as an analogy for someone whose lived a long time and did / achieved a lot, I think it’s fine :)

Sparklybutold · 08/09/2022 17:03

@PostmortemNow

Perspective seems to go completely out the window. Maybe if people got this bothered by actual atrocities and real sad stories things would be much better for everyone? I bet royalists were more likely to be the ones clapping on there doorstep during lockdown. Happy to offer support as long as you don't actually have to do anything.

Maybe it's just semantics
i lost my dad when he was 80 and I was 42.

I actually think it might be harder if your parent in their 90s and you in your 70s. Yes, my dad was here the whole of my life...but the older you both are, the more every experience is tied to the parent?

EmmaH2022 · 08/09/2022 17:04

Totally take the point re good innings, just thinking of her children.

Astounding · 08/09/2022 17:06

Lady Colin Campbell has ended an unscheduled video with the news that the Queen passed just after 2 pm this afternoon and there will be an official announcement once Harry and Meghan arrive at Balmoral.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 08/09/2022 17:07

I really hate this preemptive wall to wall coverage.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/09/2022 17:07

there will be an official announcement once Harry and Meghan arrive at Balmoral.

Except Meghan's not going to Scotland. And I'm pretty certain the royal household won't use Lady Colin Campbell to make any announcement.

Astounding · 08/09/2022 17:09

MrsDanvers. It seemed very strange. I agree that why would Lady Colin Campbell be the one charged with putting out the announcement before the BBC? She said she has had bone cancer but died peacefully. It seems very ‘off’

Snowiscold · 08/09/2022 17:11

She’s a notorious attention seeker and royal hanger-on. Whatever she says is meaningless.

Lady Colin Campbell is a fantasist.
