It's very unusual for Buck Palace to release a statement like they have isn't it?

I agree with the good innings statement. My mum died at 35 and brother died at 36. If both had been royal family members neither would have died this young.

WeAreTheHeroes · 08/09/2022 15:25

Whatever you think of the monarchy and the royal family, she's someone's mum, auntie, grandma, great grandma.

ImWonderingwhy · 08/09/2022 15:25

This isn't the thread for "Also we are paying for all those children to go to fancy schools", bore off.

I'd never thought of that, but they've already implemented 'the procedure' in a fashion. Coverage by a senior newsreader in solemn clothing.

On a lighter note, I just looked at Google Maps because I wasn't sure where Balmoral was, and if you find the Balmoral area, the 'streetview' character turns into a tiny little Queen, with her white dress, blue sash and crown, which is nice.

That's really cool! It's the same if you google Buckingham Palace and Sandringham too!

That lightened the mood for me, feeling rather sad and sombre.

Whataretheodds · 08/09/2022 15:28

I read on BBC news that the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace was cancelled today. Why would this be while she is still alive?

Prescottdanni123 · 08/09/2022 15:30

@Sparklybutold Do you think that her life has been a fairytale? If someone offered me a crown, I wouldn't accept it for all the money in the world.

The Royal family aren't the only people to afford good medical aid or private jets or whatever other luxuries you begrudge the. There are plenty of celebrities/entrepreneurs who do as well.

A woman who has worked so hard to serve her country is ill, possibly at the end of life. This isn't the place for you to start an anti-monarchy war.

@Motnight

feel sympathy for her and her family but she's had a great innings

World's worse statement about a loved ones death.
Reads as - "Oh that's ok then because they've lived a long time anyway"
Not the best comfort for the bereaved, almost reads as you should be grateful they lived that long.

I hear what you're saying but the royal family aren't likely to be reading MN, therefore there was really no need to jump in with that chastisement. This is a discussion forum, there was nothing wrong with what was said. She has had a jolly good innings, she's very old, we all die.

Sparklybutold · 08/09/2022 15:31

@WeAreTheHeroes

I find it strange that people are so invested in this woman. Yes she is everything you say, but no more or less than any other nan, mum, sister etc and yet there she is on a manmade pedestal.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 08/09/2022 15:34

NoMichaelNo · 08/09/2022 12:45

She looked more frail than usual on Tuesday.

When she met Liz Truss she looked very skinny.

Yes. And if she dies peacefully at home, comfortable with all her family around her I think that's what we should all be hoping for right now.

Let's face it - survival this week will only mean higher risk of hospitals, falls, trauma, late night emergencies etc in the future. If she has her family around her today the kindest thing to wish for is a peaceful passing.

Sparklybutold · 08/09/2022 15:36

@Prescottdanni123

Of course it is sad that her time may be near. It is of course sad whenever anyone goes and yet we live in a world where some lives are deemed more worthwhile than others and are revered as such. I feel this type of attitude and complacency just fuels the massive inequality we see destroying millions of lives. So no - I do not understand the obsession that the RF still seem to have.

It's really not the world's worse (worst?) statement about a loved one's death. But I am of cool very happy to apologise to any members of the Royal Family who read this and are upset about it.

It's going to be rather expensive to get all the money changed to Charles

Not quite sure if you're being serious. They don't withdraw all the ER money and replace it!

DeadbeatYoda · 08/09/2022 15:42

@ImEasyLikeSundayMorning
I hear that! My much loved friend died at 43, I had known her since we were 18. She had had full body radiation at 13 years old and always said she 'wouldn't make old bones'.
I look at my increasingly aged face and am extremely thankful to have reached the age I am. I will feel blessed to have had a 'good innings' if I am lucky enough.

There will be quite a delay before they announce her death, the schedules been in place for decades so it is possible she isn't.

It probably seems like that to people born after decimalisation as they only see QEII coins, before that we'd have Queen Victoria/King George or whoever on old circulating coins. I do remember having Queen Victoria farthings.

Gracelynn · 08/09/2022 15:54

gatehouseoffleet · 08/09/2022 15:23

I agree. My father was 93 when he died. He had had a good innings. How can you be offended by that. It's sad when someone that old dies, but it's not tragic.

As for 96 being terrifying, my mum said that as you get older you accept that dying is likely sooner rather than later and you don't mind the thought as much. And maybe the Queen has faith and believes that she will see Philip again.

Yes pray she has faith. And time for people of faith to pray for their whole family.

BlodynGwyn · 08/09/2022 15:54

She's earned everyone's respect. Bless her heart.

ThisIsNotThePostYourLookingFor · 08/09/2022 15:55

I was thinking the same. Very odd for them to release any information like this.

Clevs · 08/09/2022 15:56

Well my local paper (Newsquest group) have reported that her funeral is in 10 days time and are discussing whether it will be a bank holiday! Not sure where that info has come from as the BBC will be the first to announce it!

ImWonderingwhy · 08/09/2022 16:01

Sparklybutold
She isn’t a typical gran, she is a truly remarkable woman. For me she has deserved her pedestal through a life of unstinting public service.
Wealthy in her own right who could have declined the throne and the lifetime of publicity and mundane royal duties, but she didn’t. She has devoted her life to the service of this country and the other countries of which she is head of state. Serving with dignity, above politics and unstinting devotion.
I am truly grateful to her.

@Gracelynn the Queen is a woman of deep, personal, Christian faith. She's spoken about it often in her Christmas messages.

She won't be milking it for long if rumours of what Prince Charles wants to do with their titles/contact with the RF is to be believed 😳

But I do believe and hope she'd have more actual sense and consideration to not make money from Harry's grandmother's demise.

Antarcticant · 08/09/2022 16:09

Must we shoe-horn Meghan-bashing into this?

Not appropriate.
