It's very unusual for Buck Palace to release a statement like they have isn't it?

@ancientgran I've only ever known decimal coinage but remember seeing King George VI coinage. But I forget I'm old and that for many ERII coinage is the only type they've seen.

AceSpades54321 · 08/09/2022 14:56

I think she has passed already 😔 they are probably giving the family privacy to grieve before letting the public know.

I think so too, otherwise it would be very weird and ghoulish for them to be wearing black ties.

ImEasyLikeSundayMorning · 08/09/2022 16:10

The BBC have also blacked out their sign as well.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 08/09/2022 16:10

I have spent most of my life serving her, in one way or another.
It's so sad.

George VI coinage didn't disappear until the size of 10ps was reduced in 1993 so anyone early 30s and above will probably have used them in their lifetime.

blobby10 · 08/09/2022 16:12

I've got R2 playing and Steve Wright hasn't toned down his music or inane blabbering in the slightest. Plus the newsreader was decidedly upbeat with subsequent news matters in the 4pm report.

warofthemonstertrucks · 08/09/2022 16:12

My other half has been told to put the bit of operation London Bridge that his business is involved in into action, so I think she has gone. I'm no fan of the institution but I admire the Queen and it does feel a bit more seismic to me than I thought it would :(

J0y · 08/09/2022 16:13

Is she in pain, I think that might make the End easier to accept.

I can'tbelieve it though, 2 days ago she was up and dressed greeting liz truss

Travellingwomble · 08/09/2022 16:13

Sadly I think she has already gone. Just waiting for the whole family to be in situ before they release a statement.

I agree.

It's funny, I'm no royalist (although not a frothing anti-monarchist either) but I'm feeling unexpectedly shocked and sad. I guess she's the one person who has just been there all or most of all of our lives.
It is amusing me though that it seems to be having to deal with both Boris Johnson AND Liz Truss that's finished her off...
I can't blame her.

What do you mean by your first sentence?

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 08/09/2022 16:15

I'm so sad about this. I just really like her and it will be so sad when she is gone :(

See horrible people on twitter talking about it. I don't know why people have to be so hostile about things like this.

BobaTeaPoops · 08/09/2022 16:15

Agree that I think she has already passed.

"Comfortable and resting" isn't a mistruth if that's the case and a nice message to lead with until the time that the palace and her family are ready to break the news.

She has been wonderful and I for one am saddened that we may lose her today.

I hope if she has passed, or when she does, that it's dignified and peaceful. And that her family get to grieve as they should.

justtheway · 08/09/2022 16:03

@Gracelynn the Queen is a woman of deep, personal, Christian faith. She's spoken about it often in her Christmas messages.

Praying then that the Lord Jesus will comfort her.

That, God willing, her Children will also seek and be found by the Saviour.

PostmortemNow · 08/09/2022 16:19

It's just heartbreakingly tragic.
At times like these, you simply wish some people
were immortal.
Extraordinary woman.
Whatever one's views on monarchy as such
no other public figure ever commanded such
respect, I think.

Viviennemary · 08/09/2022 16:20

I thought she looked ok yesterday. Of course a little frail. I think she is unwell and thats why the family is going. But maybe the announcement is to stop speculation about why the family are going. But who knows.

canyouextrapol · 08/09/2022 16:20

Not a royalist but from some stories she's a great character

Genuine question - why are you shocked? She's is, after all, 96years old.

gatehouseoffleet · 08/09/2022 16:24

Interesting that MN have deleted the thread about someone wondering if they should cancel their planned party for this weekend if the Queen dies. Not sure how it breached the talk guidelines! I wish they'd actually say HOW something breached the guidelines.

I know from the Guardian London Bridge article that some sporting events were cancelled when King George died. It doesn't seem that outlandish an idea to think that people might be offended by continuing with a planned celebration. But there you go, I don't really understand MN's moderation policy at times.

It's still there at the moment - I just posted on it.

I feel shocked in the sense of how one feels shocked when confronted with bad news.
I don't mean it in the sense of 'surprised'.

You can't be that old. Decimal currency came in 51 years ago. The most you can be is mid 50s

@Motnight

feel sympathy for her and her family but she's had a great innings

World's worse statement about a loved ones death.
Reads as - "Oh that's ok then because they've lived a long time anyway"
Not the best comfort for the bereaved, almost reads as you should be grateful they lived that long.

We said my Gran had a good innings when she died at 90. Of course we were still very sad, but people can't live forever.
