Lovely photo of the Queen and Liz Truss today, The queen looks frail and seems to have shrunk, see the photo here. Doing well for 96 though. news.sky.com/story/liz-truss-becomes-prime-minister-of-the-uk-12691158

I doubt they'd select a picture of the curtsey (or bow, if that was her preferred gesture) as I can't think of a previous time when the official picture of the formal meeting to confer the office of Prime Minister has shown the new incumbent bowing/curtseying

(awaits slew of pics showing otherwise!)

I’m sure that there was one of Theresa May curtsying when she got the job in 2016. Poor woman.

Roselilly36 · 06/09/2022 16:58

Liz Truss did curtsy, according to DM, the Queen is looking very frail, but understandable given her advancing years, it looked like a very gentle handshake, the Queen’s hand looked very bruised in the photographs sadly.

MarshaMelrose · 06/09/2022 17:04

My dad was on warfarin for his heart and his hands, all his skin actually, went like that. Very thin and could tear very easily. I wonder if she's on it for her heart condition.

I was surprised they made the new PM go almost the way to Balmoral, it doesn't seem like great use of time. If the queen isn't well enough to travel, they could surely have made it work some other way?

It's half a day. I think the world will keep turning.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 06/09/2022 17:12

So many things wrong with this picture, it’s truly alarming.
This aged pampered, privileged and powerful (see legislation , exemption, private wills etc) woman enacting a pointless rite with someone who very likely is going to bring the country to its knees.

Oh? Was this a fangirl thread only?

Disappointed there's no curtsey. I'm not a rabid royalist, but I think the old girl should get one

There’s absolutely no need for her to get a courtesy. What a silly comment.

Living up to your name, then. 🙄

It's not silly to the op. And TQ did get a curtsey.

Stomacharmeleon · 06/09/2022 17:20

I wish people wouldn't keep running the Queen down. It feels like your dissing my Nan. (I realise she isn't btw)

Sellorkeep · 06/09/2022 17:27

Love she’s got a cardie on!

I am very spangly, yes, well done for noticing.

OakPine · 06/09/2022 17:32

She looks very happy at Balmoral. I love that she is wearing her tartan skirt and has her handbag over her arm.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/09/2022 17:33

She looks very happy to be getting a new PM.😆

Well picked up. I’m able to spell it correctly but snapped tendons in a finger aren’t helping. Predictive text is a pain. You should see my current work emails before I proof read.

Nah. She really like Boris. They're related.

Fladdermus · 06/09/2022 17:42

Is the picture angle weird? I can't work out if the Queen is really small or Truss is really tall, or both.

headstone · 06/09/2022 17:48

The teenaged Truss wanted to abolish the monarchy.

balalake · 06/09/2022 17:57

The Queen is not a tall person, never was, so the height difference is no surprise. One of the few good things I can say about Liz Truss is that if her period as Prime Minister is the last of the Queen's reign, at least the Queen's last Prime Minister is not pretending to be the latter day version of her first, Winston Churchill. Unlike Boris Johnson, not fit to clean Mr Churchill's shoes.

People grow up and change their mind.

headstone · 06/09/2022 18:07

Truss changed her mind on alot of things indeed.

MarshaMelrose · 06/09/2022 18:09

It's good to have a flexible leader whose not scared to change their mind and say they made a mistake and were wrong.
