Carrie's dress today

JaneBrowning · 06/09/2022 11:56

Am I the only one who thinks that at every formal occasion she tries to upstage Boris?

Shocking pink today, often in red at important occasions.

Her dress today has an open back, slit to the waist from just below the neckline.

She's going to meet the Queen.

Sorry, but regardless of your politics I just think she has no idea how to dress.

Or maybe she does if she's seeking attention.

And while on the subject of the plane why did Ex PM and new PM fly in separate planes. Is it because they hate each other or is there a protocol in place in case it crashes?

Absolute waste of money and energy. The Queen should have given this procedure over to Charles and he could have been in London to see both Boris and Truss. #missespointofthread

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 06/09/2022 17:08

I'm sure it's protocol so you don't loose two PM's at once

Well she could be the shortest pm ever.

bellabasset · 06/09/2022 17:19

She won't be meeting the Queen today so I don't know if she would even have travelled to Balmoral with him. It's different for Liz Truss's dh who would meet the Queen.

I did not see the interior pics until seeing the link, but outside, I thought the dress was really nice. The camera did not focus on her, as she went and stood at the side, so the cameras were only on Boris when he gave his rsignation speech.
However, I admit I preferred David Cameron's wife, Samantha's dress, when he resigned (also a designer expensive dress, but bluish, which is more my colour).
I certainly remember that spouses do go along at the resignation to meet the Queen. I think Gordon Brown's children went as well, on his occassion.

GetOffTheRoof · 06/09/2022 17:30

That dress was beautiful and Carrie Johnson looked fabulous in it.

It's not her fault her husband looks like a pig in a poke in any outfit he puts on.

Even Theresa May, of whom I am NOT a fan politically, has some epic shoes and necklaces and is entitled to dress how she wishes.

Roselilly36 · 06/09/2022 17:35

Beautiful dress but, at little inappropriate given the occasion.

Clarinet1 · 06/09/2022 17:56

I don’t object to the dress itself or wearing it to meet the Queen but full-length with that back view I would say is more suitable for a Royal Command Performance or even a formal dinner rather than a morning accompanying her DH to an important public life event.

Indoorcatmum · 06/09/2022 17:57

She looks beautiful and to say otherwise is misogynistic dribble. Are we really all so repressed?

MsRinky · 06/09/2022 18:24

She must have really pissed off whoever runs the official no 10 twitter account, as the dress looks completely transparent over tiny black underwear in the footage they've posted, whilst it looks completely normal (if a bit gaudy) in all other photos/footage.

Going clubbing? Have you ever been to s club?

I hear they do incredible parties like no other.

Badger1970 · 06/09/2022 18:28

I think she's got lovely dress sense.

It's her taste in men I'd question............

mydogisthebest · 06/09/2022 18:37

I thought it was a weird dress. In the photos it looked like a belly dancer's outfit as it looked as though she had a bra top on and a G string. Not sure if that was her underwear showing or what.

LoveHamble · 06/09/2022 19:35

Crazycatstory · 06/09/2022 12:54

But SHE didn’t post on here asking peoples opinions. YOU did. Judging it/her. It’s a dress that literally covers her from head to toe except for a tiny sliver of back. Can’t see how you can get less “formal” as you put it. It looks like it might be silk, so can be slightly clingy.

A sack of potatoes could upstage Boris Johnson in the presentation stakes, so it would be pointless to try not to.

Are we going to say that this dress Catherine (as a future queen ffs) wore was inappropriate as she’s got most of her chest and all of her back (to the waist as you say) on view? No, because you’d likely not being judgy in the same way, because she’s not Carrie. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like a lot about Carrie, but I’m not going to judge her on her perfectly reasonable clothes choices. And it doesn’t help women in general when this is the sort of thing we focus on. Plus, you didn’t post this in style and beauty did you, you posted it in chat.

Wearing an evening dress with a low cut front and see through back to the waist is entirely appropriate for a formal evening reception.

Wearing a transparent dress showing your bra and knickers at a formal daytime business event accompanying your spouse is entirely inappropriate.

If you don't get the difference you maybe need to check out the etiquette of life.

Let it be known, someone else got it

So it's misogynistic to not think every woman at any time is beautiful? Or are we allowed our own opinions for other women?

bellabasset · 06/09/2022 19:52

I assumed C

bellabasset · 06/09/2022 19:53

I assumed Carrie wouldn't be with Boris but see she was so perhaps her dress wasn't appropriate.

Twawmyarse · 06/09/2022 19:59

The dress isn't "transparent" it just looks that way bc of the way the shadow falls on the silky material in that video ffs!

This thread has some proper Mary Whitehouse throwbacks on it!

upinaballoon · 06/09/2022 20:08

I have seen the clip which seemed to show the dress as transparent, but when I saw her in Downing Street it wasn't transparent at all and I liked it. (Shades of young Diana with the light behind her skirt.) I would have liked to see the dress more closely.

We hadn't seen Gordon and Sarah Brown's little boys until they left No. 10 and a comedian on radio 4 described as something like a pair of munchkins. They looked so lovely.

Swimmingpoolsally · 06/09/2022 20:18

I think this is just bitchy. She looks nice, why do women insist on attacking other women for how they dress.

GreekGod · 06/09/2022 20:33

Not a fan of Carrie's style and I didn't really like her dress

WildRosie · 06/09/2022 20:42

Just a 'going away' outfit which is, after all, what happened.

It's like Trinny and Susannah passing waspish comments at Ascot, Wimbledon etc.

LesLavandes · 06/09/2022 20:46

I haven't read the whole thread. She looks lovely and imo, it is not inappropriate

Ain't no party like it

ShaneTwane · 06/09/2022 21:06

Its not inappropriate at all. It looks like the sateen fabric is clingy and casts shadows its absolutely not see through.
