  • country, region, city, town -

Just returned recently from Croatia, and we visited Rovinj. We've travelled a fair bit, but Rovinj is hands down the most beautiful little place I've ever been.

I need to ditch the kids with Granny and head back for a child free weekend of wine bars and little patios over the yacht-filled sea.

Stunning.

Anyone else have any places that just felt truly spectacular?

We have travelled a lot and lived in a lot of places and I can honestly say Shetland is the most beautiful place I have ever been. Truly. We came back from 3 weeks there last month.

Try again - West Papua in Indonesia!

Great thread!

It's interesting so many people love Croatia. I went there about 15 years ago, and loved many parts of it, but actually thought it was not as nice as many places in in the Med as the beaches were just awful - no sand and really really sharp stones. I remember near Rovinj being shocked at people having to lie on sort of camping mats, to protect themselves from the ground. But seeing this thread makes me thing I need to go back!

My suggestions would be Lake Obersee (on non-crowded day)
and Bavarian Alps
Lake Como
Corsica
Bled/Bohinj

For a beach - Llandudno in South Africa

Fluffyghost · 04/09/2022 23:03

Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada.
In fact pretty much all of the Canadian Rockies but Banff national park and lake Moraine are breath takingly beautiful.

Mallorca is my happy place too…absolutely beautiful there and not too far away!
Am going there for a second break mid September 😊

@moneybeingwasted I’m jealous!! 2019 was our last visit and we’ve had our first DC since then 😊 hopefully we’ll be heading back next year for our first family holiday abroad! As you say, not too far away and is just beautiful!

Ravello, Italy.

Conversation between our 2 DCs
DD aged 6, “where are we?”
DD aged 12, “heaven”

I don’t know whose mouth was open wider but it was a joy to witness. They were both truly gobsmacked.

La Sagrada família in Barcelona. Felt a peace there I’ve never experienced before. The sun was streaming through the stained glass windows. Stunningly beautiful.

A great choice! Was last there nine years ago - found myself unexpectedly shedding a tear - have never been so overwhelmed by a building.

Iceland - Vik with its black beach, then on to Jokulsarlon.

Cwm Idwal in Snowdonia.

RedRum27 · 04/09/2022 23:05

Burano in Venice absolutely stunning especially early morning when it’s quiet.

Although Italy in general wows me, in particular the Tuscany region.

Movinghouseatlast · 04/09/2022 23:06

Venice.

Polperro in Cornwall.

Loggos in Paxos, Greece.

Crikeyalmighty · 04/09/2022 23:07

Mine would be

California coast
Mallorca (most of it apart from the few big tacky places)
Rome
Many Greek islands
Switzerland or Austria in summer on a cable car going over meadows of cows grazing and the sound of cowbells
Lake Maggiore/Como
Old Quebec City

Kiitos · 04/09/2022 23:07

I can think of a few very beautiful places but the two that moved me to tears (pathetic I know) are Hong Kong harbour, and Jenny Lake in Wyoming.

DesperatePanda · 04/09/2022 23:07

The Canadian Rockies, Jasper in particular. Although Lake Minnewanka in Banff was incredibly stunning.

In the UK, then Uig Sands on the Isle of Lewis.

Sclover0604 · 04/09/2022 23:08

Glacier Bay in Alaska - stunning

Cheeselog · 04/09/2022 23:08

I can’t decide between Lake Bohinj in Slovenia and Zion National Park in Utah, USA. Both absolutely stunning in different ways.

Glitteratitar · 04/09/2022 23:09

Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays
Lake Bled
Glencoe and the surrounding areas
Luskentyre Beach in Harris
Great Wall is China.

Bit of a mix but so far for me, nothing beats the above.

angel1977 · 04/09/2022 23:11

Skye, north west scotland.

What is the most beautiful place you've ever been?
Fink · 04/09/2022 23:11

The Calanques (fjords/inlets) between Marseille and Cassis. Stunning.

Alps, anywhere high up enough and quiet enough. There's a station called La Sambuy-Seythenex which is not as busy as some and has fabulous views.

Patmos (not the most conventionally beautiful of the Greek islands, but I love it)

blueshoes · 04/09/2022 23:12

Great thread. Does make me want to load on the air miles.

imnotthatkindofmum · 04/09/2022 23:13

Iceland. Can't get enough of it!

HarrietsweetHarriet · 04/09/2022 23:13

Puzzle Wood in Monmouthshire (like being in Lord of the Rings, without the Orcs).
St. Michael's Mount off the coast of Marazion in Cornwall. It's just magical.
Powis Castle in Wales / Hever Castle in Kent. The two loveliest castles and gardens.
Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia- like being in another world.
Nassau, Bahamas - sea and beaches of dreams.

StrawberryQuartz · 04/09/2022 23:14

Gili Trawangan, sunset was so beautiful. Also second snow in Central Park NYC

surreygirl1987 · 04/09/2022 23:15

Vevey and Montreux area of Lake Geneva. So beautiful it hurts my eyes to look at it. My photos don't look real!

DisneyDisneyDisney · 04/09/2022 23:16

We have just returned from 2 weeks in the rainforest in Costa Rica and that was unbelievable

HelloDaisy · 04/09/2022 23:18

A town called Denmark on the southern coast of Western Australia. Truly amazing place and we could easily and happily have stayed there.

however, my happy place is a beach in Mayo, Ireland as it’s where I have had so many lovely times with my family. Just us on the beach and nobody around for miles. There’s nothing there but beach, waves, grass and sheep…
