  • country, region, city, town -

Just returned recently from Croatia, and we visited Rovinj. We've travelled a fair bit, but Rovinj is hands down the most beautiful little place I've ever been.

I need to ditch the kids with Granny and head back for a child free weekend of wine bars and little patios over the yacht-filled sea.

Stunning.

Anyone else have any places that just felt truly spectacular?

We stayed in Glenfinnan (sp). We drove from our home in Coventry up to glasgow and did 2 nights there, then up into the highlands. We rent an air bnb on loch shiel (again, my spelling might be wrong) and the drive from glasgow to glenfinnan via fort William was just breathtaking. Even my DD looked up from her phone long enough to say wow! We spent a week there and just travelled up the coast every day, we went to the Harry Potter viaduct as that was only a 5 minute walk from
the air bnb and watched the steam train go over (with about a hundred other people). I can’t tell you the names of the places we went as I didn’t really pay attention but we literally just went north from Fort William and explored all the areas. Breathtaking

Vale of Belvoir, Tasmania.
Gariwerd ( The Grampians) in Victoria, Australia.
Both places felt ancient and very spiritual.
Belvoir I felt like a dinosaur could appear in the distance!

So many!

Tuscany is outstanding, Croatian coastline is beautiful, some parts of Mallorca are so peaceful.

more recently, on a cold Scottish spring day, I enjoyed the tranquility of Islay, Inner Hebrides.

Standing on top of a hill in Glen Etive, the views of the Glencoe mountains, and down Loch Etive itself were spectacular. I cried. I've travelled a lot and seen amazing places but nothing beats the west coast of Scotland. Swimming in the sea looking out to the hills of Arran from the bottom end of Bute on a sunny day was also life affirming.

I just love Glen Etive and Loch Etive. I need to go back desperately

Trekking in Nepal. I loved everything about Nepal and the trekking was just mindbogglingly beautiful - fantastical mountain landscapes, blue skies, Buddhist stupas with fluttering prayer flags- bloody hell it was 25 years ago and I'm feeling emotional thinking about it Grin

Many, many years ago DH and I were holidaying in Corfu. We hired a car to explore the island and try and get away from the tourist areas. I remember getting out of the car and walking through meadows full of wildflowers and butterflies and beaches empty except for the local goats. We were left speechless by it and understood why Shakespeare called it "the Garden of Eden"

I cannot get over the sheer beauty of Scotland, I particularly love to drive from Loch Ness to Loch Lomond going through Glencoe and Rannoch Moor, in fact I just love Scotland!

If you can ignore the leeches, and I did, the Sinharaja rainforest in Sri Lanka. It was like being in Fern Gully.

I thought of another one, the John Lewis Water Garden in Stockbridge. I visited earlier this year and it literally took my breath away.

Hunza in Northern Pakistan - the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. We went in Spring so it was snow capped mountains, glaciers, blossom trees and lovely warm sun. It gets cut off in the winter with heavy snow so is a hard place to live and is largely unspoilt. Absolutely stunning place and wonderful people.

We’ve just come back from a stay on the banks of the Dordogne. I think they call it the Perigord Noir? It was really beautiful.

Socotra island. Belongs to Yemen, but is a tiny island in the Arabian Sea. Beautiful.

Great thread.

Amalfi coast.
Views of spectacular mountains from Tigne back in the days we went skiing there. A couple of decades back now.
In the UK, Rievaulx Abbey in Yorkshire.
The cornish coastline especially near the Minack theatre and St Michaels mount, Senen Bay, Kinance cove

Having travelled a lot the place that is most beautiful is the west coast of Scotland. So many different but all amazing places.

But for something a bit different the Seoknamsa Temple in South Korea is pretty special.

This I have also travelled very extensively (Europe Asia the US etc) but love Scotland particularly the west/south west. I now live there everyday regardless of the weather (we get a lot of rain/mist/wind here) is stunningly beautiful and I frequently marvel at how lucky I am.
Im also a fan of the quieter areas of the Dordogne which has slightly similar scenery.

Oh, this is interesting. I'd move to the west Coast of Scotland in a heart beat but my oh won't even consider it. France he will consider though. Whereabouts in the dordogne is similar?
