A niche way of dancing. I'm surprised really tbh

DBs girlfriend used to work with Kier Starmer. She said he is really different off camera, much livelier, extremely sharp and a very caring person.

itsgettingweird · 04/09/2022 20:10

Funnily enough country my lawyer friend knows him fairly well professionally from when he was director of public prosecutions.

She said they are all surprised he's been quite weak against Johnson as he's very witty, kind, intelligent and outspoken in a nice way of standing up for what's right.

She said they all think he knew he could give Johnson rope and that was enough for now and they think he'll be totally different against Truss and the public will see a different side of him.

countrygirl99 · 04/09/2022 20:32

It was when he was DPP DBs girlfriend worked with him too.

borntobequiet · 04/09/2022 20:48

Johnson is hard to debate because much of what he says is nonsense or lies, like Trump. This often means there’s no real argument to be had. Valid points are dismissed as piffle or whatever. Unfortunately this is seen as admirable by much of Johnson’s cronies and by the Tory media, and rarely effectively challenged by others, giving the impression of weakness in Starmer. In fact he’s been getting better and better at dealing with Johnson over the last few months - and I say this not as a particular fan of his.

newnamethanks · 04/09/2022 22:32

I remember the sense of dread I felt when Thatcher ascended her throne. Feel similar about Truss. I didn't know fully what to expect when Maggie seized the reins. I didn't think she would do half of what she did. Now I know better and I do expect the worst of this one. Its going to be an interesting time. Hope its brief.

itsgettingweird · 05/09/2022 04:09

I agree born.

NOTANUM · 05/09/2022 04:17

The US though @Roussette ..
Their ex President is practically accused of pilfering confidential files for reasons unknown and yet is still in running for the next presidency. The current one has serious questions on his health.
I would take Truss over either.

Interesting to read about Starmer and how we aren’t seeing his best. We really need to see that pretty sharpish!

Roussette · 05/09/2022 05:40

Gosh. Not sure where to start with your post! Of COURSE my American friends loathed everything about Trump,. We've bonded greatly over his dire presidency and now it's being shown by his treasonous actions.
Biden has achieved a lot in his nearly two years, you cannot criticise a man for health reasons, he has a good team behind him

As for preferring Truss over anyone, I'll just leaves this here, her Sunday morning politics interview, it covers all I need to say
www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/sep/04/liz-truss-pm-laura-kuenssberg-panel-john-crace-sketch
Do read it.

With regards to Starmer, give me a man who has a moral compass and I will give him a chance. He has one

Just because American politicians are shit at the moment it's not a get out of jail free card for ours
"They are worse" is no excuse for ours to be appalling.

The Americans may or may nor expect better but we do and Liz Truss is a joke. My dc are all eligible to vote in the next election (unless it happens in the next month). The oldest 2 talk about the last few years and how appallingly their education was handled. They've both said they will never forgive the tories, but rather than learn and build bridges the conservatives give us either Truss or Sunak. That decision caused more harm.

As I've said on here before, I don't want to choose the least worst party/candidate, I want the best, and the tories are very much lacking.

Apparently we are not seeing the best in Starmer and yet by some fluke there is apparently a 70% chance at the next general election that Labour will be in a majority.

and when you look at the first round of names put forward they’re very much choosing this.

L1ttledrummergirl · 05/09/2022 08:44

Absolutely. This isn't something that's just happening and can't be helped. They are actively choosing to stuff the country.

DuncinToffee · 05/09/2022 09:04

Truss has been reading Labour's proposals, reports are saying she is 'considering' a freeze on energy bills..

I think expectations are so low that any help will look good.

Novum · 05/09/2022 09:20

It's really difficult to believe that, out of over 300 MPs, Truss is really the best they can do. The trouble is that they've painted themselves into this corner through the whole Brexit/May/Johnson saga. They lost several competent pro-remain ministers because they couldn't do the U-turn that Truss did, then Johnson clearly made a deliberate decision that he was only going to appoint incompetents to try to avoid challenges. One or two with a brain cell slipped through, like Gove, but only because Johnson could see he was a spent force. As there's a perception that you can only appoint someone with some sort of track record in government, that leaves them with an absolutely woeful field to choose from.

Roussette · 05/09/2022 09:28

@Novum
Your post is spot on.
Johnson got rid of anyone worthy of office

DuncinToffee · 05/09/2022 09:39

I expect Con HQ to be busy today....

countrygirl99 · 05/09/2022 09:42

Johnson got rid of the heavy weights now it looks like Truss will get rid of the medium weights. Soon there will only be fly weights left.

Fladdermus · 05/09/2022 09:44

So when do we find out who will be leading us into armageddon?

DuncinToffee · 05/09/2022 09:48

Just after 12.30

If this is where we are with Starmer not at his best, I can’t wait for him to get on top of his game.

mibbelucieachwell · 05/09/2022 11:14

At least they work hard to further the interests of minority groups despite their law-breaking and corruption. If only the minority group they work for were deserving, instead of their chosen minority group of the very richest.
