Yes, can you imagine a lower class parent doing the same thing? Instead of a couple of doctors? Mmm

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/09/2022 12:15

I have a full grip on the point of this thread, @Fairylightsongs, no need to be cross.

How is cocaine and day drinking classy if you’re Rich`?

No one is saying it's 'classy'. The point is that it's not condemned. It's making the point that society has double standards for behaviour depending on how you are 'seen'.

God MN is hard work sometimes.

If the original post has used the words 'more acceptable' then it would have made more sense.

And if I can add football hooligans versus 'high spirited jinks' as seen pre and post Rugby -

This is on the money.

it’s jolly japes if it’s drunk middle class young men and anti social behaviour otherwise.

What because they didn’t get absolutely lampooned for it by the public and pay the worst price?

ItsJustLittleOlMe · 02/09/2022 12:17

I don't understand how speaking a second language is chavvy?

Thelnebriati · 02/09/2022 12:19

If you or your families second language is English you can expect to be judged for it.

I get your point. I'd say it's less chavvy and more double standards in class. Day drinking in poorer classes- alcohol problem, middle class- gin-oclock. For example!

Mushroo · 02/09/2022 12:23

Drinking in the park - champagne and a picnic blanket = acceptable. A can of Stella = not acceptable.

day drinking. Drinking lots at a brunch at an upscale restaurant = great! Spending the day down the Wetherspoons = getting judged.

Going to Spain on holiday. A week hiking trails from a luxury villa is aspirational. Also Bilbao / San Sebastián. A week on the beach in Benidorm will be judged (despite both probably involving lots of food and alcohol).

If you or your families second language is English you can expect to be judged for it.

This is an indicator of a high level of ignorance.
The more languages the better, not only academically but for a better understanding of the world.

If the original post has used the words 'more acceptable' then it would have made more sense.

It makes perfect sense. Eg, a man fathering an unknown number of children by x number of women = chavvy or outgoing PM of the UK, depending on which part of the social divide you’re from.
