Stay at home parents.
Tattoos.
Smoking/drugs whereas for the middle classes it’s a treat - particularly weed!
Branded clothing.
Day drinking.
BBQs/using the garden.
Family get togethers.
More than 2 kids.
Kids with multiple parents.

I understand what you mean op. It's the double standards whereby certain behaviours are lauded if you're from a higher social class yet derided if you're from a lower one.

I'd say not disciplining children.

Why is a floor bed mentioned ? Think they are a great idea ..grandchild has one and it is fabulous.

Wearing sports wear (trackies vs yoga pants)

Frazzled2207 · 02/09/2022 11:51

Putting your kid in second hand clothes even though you can afford new

939300EJL · 02/09/2022 11:51

Boris ….umpteen kids from various Mothers ,apparently this is acceptable in certain circles!
Local estate, considered extremely common if Mother has umpteen kids from a variety of Fathers !

Wearefoooked22 · 02/09/2022 11:52

Anti social,
clothes (mainly tracksuit’s)
sofa in the front garden
smoking on the doorstep
unruly kids,I could go on.

Fififelix · 02/09/2022 11:53

Recreational drug use , day drinking , wine o'clock and owning large dogs. Neglect of children is ok for the middle and upper classes

Fififelix · 02/09/2022 11:54

Loads of kids by different relationships this is seen as chavvy for working classes but ok for middle and upper.

SirChenjins · 02/09/2022 11:54

Land Rover Defenders
Leaving food mess in a cafe or restaurant
Loud voices
Branded clothing

MercurialMonday · 02/09/2022 11:54

I grew up working class and have raise children in deprived areas - second language and babysitters aren't considered chavvy.

Clothes designer/brands- alcoholic drinks and holiday destinations seem main areas but the only example I think fits your criteria is number of holidays.

Working class taking lots especially abroad is chavvy - even IL have had comments - while for some parts of MN seem to think two holidays abroad a year is "normal".

Tlolljs · 02/09/2022 11:54

Giving your children ‘out there ‘ names.

cawfeee · 02/09/2022 11:57

Biros
Duvets
Rabbit Hutches
Mid brown coloured hair
Plug sockets

Donotgogentle · 02/09/2022 11:59

Scruffy, unwashed children.

Not taking education seriously.

Not working.

FourTeaFallOut · 02/09/2022 12:00

Untidy house.

Fink · 02/09/2022 12:02

I think the bilinguialism is very much down to the language interplaying with class: if you're bilingual English and French/Italian, that's seen as the gold standard; if you're bilingual English and Urdu/Polish or, shock horror, two non-western European languages and not fluent in English, that's not well regarded.

We’ll never get to the bottom of that one

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/09/2022 12:05

Noisy, barefoot children with long unwashed hair
Crappy, ancient, filthy cars
Messy houses
Smoking
Drinking
More than 3 children
More than 2 dogs

I'm not sure that too many of the MC/UC have sofas in their front gardens though...

DreamingofItaly2023 · 02/09/2022 12:06

Not sending children to school and travelling around in a motor home.

Trinity65 · 02/09/2022 12:06

I don’t think she’s asking “the poor” to comment, she’s making the point of the double standard.

For example, if you’re middle class and your children are in second hand scruffy clothes it’s because you’re eco friendly. But if you’re poor and your children are in scruffy clothes it’s chavvy.

Right.
