Weirdest place you've ever been?

Not necessarily woo, just weird.

We were looking at places to rent and the landlord showed us round a house which was becoming available. He was as uncomfortable as us when he saw that not only were the windows blacked out but the entire house from the ceiling down including the floors was covered in thick black plastic and the main bedroom had a lock added and we couldn't get in.

We left pretty quickly and I'm not really sure if the landlord looked into that any further!

Glasgow Central Station always makes me feel a bit weird but I'm not sure why.

Tombstone. The one in Arizona, not the local churchyard. Very strange vibe in Big Nose Kate's Saloon during the day, let alone after dark.

Jerome, also Arizona. Very Gladstonbury-type vibe.

Live not far from Glastonbury and there are some very strange people there.

lightisnotwhite · 31/08/2022 09:47

@DeePlume ha ha!
Yes I thought it was and I agree it’s weird. The building style is very oppressive for what is essentially a village. I think it’s a Surrey thing though. And shops that no one ever went into thanks to it being a massively inconvenient place to visit with the only traffic lights on a super busy road out of London down to Portsmouth

Now the tunnels been in a few years it’s really only people going to the Devils Punchbowl and those that live there. I been through it since but still only on the way to somewhere else. It’s better but not a fan.

Townsville in Australia

my dad said the exact same thing when he went to Australia about Townsville

Tootief · 31/08/2022 11:00

@Blueberrycreampie really? Wow! I didn't know that. Off to Google.

@LunchBoxPolice yes, Telford has weird vibes. Kind of bleak.

@Haggisfish3 a few people said Thurso. Every time we walked down the high street, my daughter had a bad nose bleed. She has them sporadically but to have such heavy ones in such a short space of time is unusual. Hasn't had one since we left.
Personally I don't have much of an opinion on Thurso. 🤣

Venice.

Not creepy per se, just that it looked EXACTLY the way I thought it was going to: it had the slight 'uncanny valley' feeling of being on a film set, especially as it was late January, there were very few tourists around (very few people full stop, actually) and there was mist coming in off the lagoon...

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 31/08/2022 11:46

Lindisfarne, completely gave me the creeps although we visited on a love sunny day I couldn’t wait to get away.
Glastonbury, definitely a very weird vibe to it, it’s always felt like that to me.
Forest of Dean - I can’t pinpoint why but even driving through makes me very uneasy.

Sunflowerkeep · 31/08/2022 11:55

The isle of wight. When my daughter was little old perv wanted a photo of her And was taking pics of little kids. The whole place has a vibe of satanic rituals of something. Weird

Ha, I have relatives living there and they are certainly odd. There’s always drama in that place.

Have you seen the film "Don't Look Now"? If not, you must watch it! It's a great film anyway.

Amazing film! Still gives me occasional nightmares, decades after having seen it.

@YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp I know what you mean about Lindesfarne. I guess the history is... strange and I wouldn't have liked to live in the house. Having said that, I did have a nice day there apart from the random walled garden which was almost unpleasant. Admittedly it wasn't helped by a seal colony making lots of spooky sounding wailing!

Just thought of somewhere else... Robin Hoods Bay.

A bit touristy and pretty enough but it felt somehow sinister even before we went down to the beach and saw hundreds of washed up jellyfish.

Really wanted to visit but wouldn't go back.

I once found myself on a privately owned island in the South Pacific. It felt like standing at the very end of the world. It was a horrible, really discomforting feeling.

Diplidocus4 · 31/08/2022 12:23

@Ilovesriracha
Where in Powys ? Being nosey as cover it in work sometimes, Llandrindod Wells is a strange place as should be beautiful but seems just odd ?
Also Ceredigion as have a relative that way !

RaRaRaspoutine · 31/08/2022 12:31

Lewes. Would never go back (used to work there). Just WEIRD. Apparently it is the most incestuous place in the UK.

I am intrigued! Lived there for a year and whilst it's definitely outback / rural Australia rather than city I am wondering what I missed!

JustDanceAddict · 31/08/2022 12:43

Great Yarmouth - this was over 20 years ago so lord knows what it’s like now.

Mostar in Bosnia - what an odd place. The bridge and surrounds are beautiful and then the touristy bit stops and it’s a shithole! very beautiful countryside with no infrastructure (went on day trip from Croatia).

RaRaRaspoutine · 31/08/2022 12:44

The old wax museum in Brading, Isle of Wight. It was BRILLIANT. Had nightmares about it for ages afterwards. Sadly (or not?) it doesn't exist any more and the waxworks were bought by collectors. There's a facebook group for them!

DancingBudgie · 31/08/2022 13:48

Thornwick Bay on the East coast.
It's like the land that time forgot.

RebulahConundrum · 31/08/2022 13:51

Wisbech gave me the heebie jeebies but I've no idea why

VerveClique · 30/08/2022 19:54

St Helens
Truro

What's wrong with Truro? It feels OK to me, except alongside the riverbank near Tesco which gives me the creeps, and the library which gives me a 'hairs on the neck standing up' type feeling.

DeclansAFeckingDream · 31/08/2022 14:27

Sundown Adventureland in Retford. The whole place gave me the creeps and I couldn't wait to get away.

hedgehogFC · 31/08/2022 18:43

Jaywick. I'd never heard of it, and jogged through it one day by chance when on holiday jn Clacton. It reminded me of a South African township. Unsaved roads and prefab houses. I got a bit obsessed with it for a while Blush

And Canberra. I've been to much more objectively weird places like the Killing Fields in Cambodia, but Canberra was a completely soulless contrived city that had nothing of any warmth or interest. I can't believe that it's Australia's capital, after experiencing Sydney, Melbourne, Perth etc.
