Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

And just googled him and still none the wiser on Christian Bale - but in fairness to him, he probably wouldn’t recognise me either.

I’m not a fan of approaching celebrity’s whilst they are on personal errands, all of the celebs I have met have been nothing short of very nice. most of them I’ve met by chance and they actually started talking to me first.
I met the guy that played Jim branning in Eastenders, used to shop in the same Tesco’s as us, I never let on I knew he was. one day we were joking about something and some one got all excited and come running over to him... he got all embarrassed and pulled up his scarf to cover his face and walked off. He was fine with me though.
all of the celebs that I’ve met
patsy Palmer is one of the nicest.
lightning from gladiators
david guest.... I was walking past and he backed in to me and then asked my opinion on a building he was looking at buying. He was quite funny.
andrew lincoln
austin Nichols
christopher Ellison ( burnside from the bill) he was a sweet guy.
razor ruddock - despite what you’d think he’d be like he’s actually really cool and funny.
pete Bennett is one of my favourite, he such a cool guy.

SynchronisedStrimmer · 30/08/2022 14:06

I met Timothy Spall at an ordinary house party, he was friends with the hostess. He was absolutely lovely. He installed himself at the kitchen table and regaled us all with his luvvie stories. Really nice chap.

Christian Bale being in Leonardo DiCaprio's league wasn't a joke by the way Blush I thought they were similar popularity and fame wise since they're Hollywood stars/box office etc

I can think of loads of huge hits starring Leo Di Caprio.

Christian Bale? Not so much.

My mates kids got friendly with John Terrys children. They were invited over for a children party. There were two separate bits of the party. One for the non-celeb types children and their parents one for the celebrity parents and their children and they were kept apart by a red rope. No one was allowed in the house either.

Wow that's a really shitty thing to do at a children's party!!

Caroline Flack was awful to me when I was a waitress. She’d come in for Mother’s Day lunch with a big group of her family (who were absolutely lovely!) but she was rude and made one of my colleagues cry! And for no reason, it was awful.

Bill Bryson on the other hand - most genuine, lovely man I’ve ever met. He was also having lunch and I asked him for an autograph and he didn’t mind a bit. Chatted to me about his books etc. I was always a huge fan and that has always stayed with me!

Oh Bill Bryson, yes! Totally wonderful. Charming, polite and an endless supply of huge smile.

Pulled over on a single track Cotswold road to let Derek Jacobi past. No little salute of acknowledgement from him! 😡😂

Beansonbeans · 30/08/2022 14:07

I once had a job that included working with Gok Wan. He was one of the kindest people I've ever met. Leant my his phone to make a call when mine died, asked lots of questions about my family who I'd mentioned I was seeing that weekend and invited all of the crew to his birthday party the following week.

Total gent.

xfgdhfgnhkk007 · 30/08/2022 14:08

Surprised at all these people who've never heard of Christian Bale. Batman, anyone? The Dark Knight trilogy?

Elphame · 30/08/2022 14:08

Another one who wouldn't know Christian Bale if I bumped into him

Nor Jess Glynne, Brix Smith and many of the others mentioned here so if they tried the whole "star" thing on me they'd get a genuine blank look.

I've had google open all the way through this thread and am generally not much the wiser

Christian Bale is definitely in their league. He may be an arse but he is a brilliant actor and is definitely the best ever Batman that has been.

FatOaf · 30/08/2022 14:11

Is he known to the man on the Clapham omnibus though?

Apparently, he's known to the lady on the Bournemouth tramcar, and possibly the dosser outside the Haverfordwest Lidl.

Lee from Blue didn't hold the door for me in a building he was visiting that I worked. His assistant came back and opened it. Prob in a mood as it was publicised he was there but not many fans.

He called his son Rayn Ryan. That tells you all you need to know about Lee Ryan from Blue.

chattp · 30/08/2022 13:41

Surely saying you don't know who Christian Bale is, is a bit like saying you don't know who George Cloney is, or Leonardo DiCaprio?

Why should everyone know who he is? I quite often watch Pointless where they have photos of slebs and I don't know one and I'm no clearer when I hear their names. Someone at work once said that as a teacher I should know things like that, modern kultcher, but as I've never listened to Radio 1 or 2 I'm unlikely to, not my thing. People differ.

In terms of acting talent, maybe.

In terms of fame? No way.

If you mentioned Brad Pitt, George Clooney or Leo Di Caprio here, nobody would say 'Who is he?' unless they were being goady. But lots of people genuinely don't know who Christian Bale is.

FatOaf · 30/08/2022 14:12

Surprised at all these people who've never heard of Christian Bale. Batman, anyone? The Dark Knight trilogy?

Nope. I saw the Michael Keaton one. Not sure why they kept remaking it.

Lovegossip · 30/08/2022 14:13

Dennis Rodman or at least his bodyguards, years ago in london I had booked a table at the sports cafe, turns out our table was near to his. No idea until we followed the waitress and his massive bodyguards blocked our way and physically tried to remove us

Waitress who had passed them came rushing back to explain we had booked a table, thing is he was surrounded by people so pretty much couldn't see him

howdidigethere · 30/08/2022 14:13

I think random people demanding photos, conversation etc could be annoying if it happens too often. It must be exhausting to be approached all the time but some of these celebs should practice a nicer rebuff, eh? Most of them have chosen the limelight.

Drunkencrow · 30/08/2022 14:14

Did he leave you his business card ?

ImSteveMcDonald · 30/08/2022 14:14

It's actually quite an interesting thread as I've had completely the opposite experience to some posters with some "celebrities" named here. I think the setting makes a difference. I agree famous people must get really fucked off with being approached (especially if they're with their own DC, that's not on). Random encounters probably show a worse side to people, than expected meetings, if that makes sense. Probably true for everyone, famous or non famous!

I think if was famous and people approached me (I've clearly spent far too much time thinking about this Grin) with I'm your biggest fan or please can you sign/take a photo, it would feel similar to when people ask for your professional advice (legal/medical etc) when you are at a dinner party. Fuck OFF. That feeling you "owe" people a certain persona and they don't see you in your own right?

Obviously I'm not Christian Bale or anyone famous so don't really have much insight at all, I'm just guessing Smile

sleepygal · 30/08/2022 14:17

ImPickleRickSpartacus · 30/08/2022 12:12

Try Google.

yawn - poster is clearly making the point that they don't know who the hell Christian Bale (thinks he) is .....

Dorsebound · 30/08/2022 14:17

Nigella - very beautiful but very snooty and a bitchy sort
Russell Brand - surprisingly sexy and charming!

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 30/08/2022 14:11

WHAT?! Grin

79andnotout · 30/08/2022 14:18

I've never had a bad run in with a celeb, but I never ask for selfies as I would hate that myself. I just tell them I really enjoyed whatever thing they were in, or album they'd made, etc, if I had to mention work at all, and leave it at that.

I was recently at a family event and Chris O Dowd was there. You couldn't meet a nicer guy. We're huge IT crowd fans in this house so were very pleased he is as much of a legend in real life as he seems on screen. Very generous at the bar, too!

I met Kim Jong-un a couple of years ago, he was awful. I took the last packet of crisps from the counter at Starbucks and he was so rude about it & complained to the staff that he only ate salt and vinegar crisps. They eventually placated him with a blueberry muffin but it was a tense few minutes.

Is this true? Where was this?

Mulberry974 · 30/08/2022 14:20

I can completely understand why someone who is famous can be a bit miserable looking, quiet or avoid people. Some people deal with it better than others I think.

It's honestly the examples where they shout/scream at people or are horribly rude (even when working) that I find awful. Never acceptable to be nasty.
