Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

I'm off to google Christian Bale and Jess Glynne, honestly cannot picture either of them.

I assumed this was a piss take, though I could be wrong...

Oh maybe. 😁

Mirandawrongs · 30/08/2022 13:57

I’ve met/worked with lots of famous people and royalty.
the two worst were women who are now almost praised like saints since they are both dead.

Lady Diana. Awful, stroppy, temperamental, bitchy, cutting and very self centred. I knew her before, during and after her marriage.

Caroline Flack. Nasty piece of work. Shouted, screamed at anyone around her if she didn’t get her way.
She once threw a boot at her boyfriend, gave him a black eye.
I also saw her slap her mum because she told her to stop behaving like that.

There are many other names I could list but there are just as many nice ones too!

QuimReaper · 30/08/2022 13:57

@OwningAllMyMistakes she hadn't touched the actual food, just the container!

Fanciedanamechange44 · 30/08/2022 13:57

Loving this thread!

I once met another parent at some audition somewhere who told me that their dc had been in panto with Bradley Walsh and he was an arse. All lovely and happy-go-lucky on stage, but was an entitled twat backstage.

I'm a massive fan of Milton Jones and went to a lot of trouble and expense (tickets, train fares and hotel) to go to London to see him perform at the Comedy Club.

Just before he was due on stage I popped to the ladies, and just as I was approaching the door, to my astonishment he was emerging from the gents', the doors being next to each other.

The moment he saw me coming towards him, he stopped and gave me the most horrible, sneering stare. His eyes went from my head to my feet, and back to my face, as he turned his nose up as though he had smelled something awful. He pulled a face at me, as though he was thinking "Yuk, how ugly is she?" It was a look of utter disgust. It was so horrible it took me aback and left me speechless, and I could not even say hello let alone ask for an autograph.

Whilst it is true that I am fat and old and not pretty, I thought his behaviour was really nasty and disrespectful, particularly as I'd shelled out so much money and time to see him.

Needless to say, I never went to see him perform again. If I ever hear him on an old radio show it makes me shudder.

I had absolutely no idea that he was that sort of person.

This is so awful and sad to read.. I'm sure you are just lovely Ladyof2022.

JudgeJ · 30/08/2022 13:58

The nicest out of all of them, was Martin Shaw (think this was Judge Deed era). He was so polite and kind

We see him occasionally out shopping, the first time I couldn't place him and must have looked oddly at him. He smiled and said Good morning, made an old lady's day!

I met Kim Jong-un a couple of years ago, he was awful. I took the last packet of crisps from the counter at Starbucks and he was so rude about it & complained to the staff that he only ate salt and vinegar crisps. They eventually placated him with a blueberry muffin but it was a tense few minutes.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I was at Glastonbury in the summer, and one of the flags was a picture of Kim Jong-Un, with 'live, laugh, love' printed on it. Made me chuckle every time I saw it...

I always get Christian Bale confused with Gareth Bale.

That's the Welsh one I couldn't remember, a few posts ago! I still think Harry Styles plays for England.

chattp · 30/08/2022 14:00

Christian Bale being in Leonardo DiCaprio's league wasn't a joke by the way Blush I thought they were similar popularity and fame wise since they're Hollywood stars/box office etc

Thing about these threads though is that they might just as easily be full of people who want to express how little they like someone by saying they were a bitch/bastard so that others will dislike them as well.

Also it’s worth remembering that sometimes e.g. at gigs/shows/in public venues the celeb’s management team are the ones who create the impression of what they’re really like.

A friend works in the music industry and says that often when they have an act in they have dealt with their management team for weeks before, and often the management are the ones making the demands and that in turn gives the performer their reputation. E.g. Garry Barlow’s team was incredibly demanding but he himself was lovely.

George Ezra and Brian Adams both lovely as well.

Young blood or whatever he’s called is incredibly demanding but his fans are cult-like so there has to be some boundaries.

Obviously if you’re just in the supermarket/if you see them out and they’re acting like arseholes then that’s a different matter. My ex served Michael Parkinson in a shop once and he was a complete arsehole with the “don’t you know who I am?” Attitude.

I also don’t think someone is rude if they don’t want to chat/sign autographs while they’re out with their families etc. Being famous doesn’t make them public property.

OwningAllMyMistakes · 30/08/2022 14:00

Yeah but regardless if I see someone touching something and leaving it I’m less inclined to pick it up

OwningAllMyMistakes · 30/08/2022 13:54

But he’s not wrong why would he or anyone want it after it’s been handled by someone else?

presumably it had been handled by many people before it was placed on the shelf?

Surely thats entirely your reading of the situation, you're projecting that he thought anything horrid at all..

Maybe he thought 'oh shit, theres a pretty lady but did I definitely do up my fly... fuck do I smell like poo, I did a huge pre-show poo... its followed me, I know it has, my nobs probably fallen out and I smell like shit... I hope she doesn't approach and smell it..... ARGH..'

He didn't actually DO anything terrible at all .. just stopped and had a funny look on his face!

Belledan1 · 30/08/2022 14:02

Lee from Blue didn't hold the door for me in a building he was visiting that I worked. His assistant came back and opened it. Prob in a mood as it was publicised he was there but not many fans.

Somanysocks · 30/08/2022 14:02

Ok, even after googling still no idea who Jess Glynne is, I must be out of the loop. Christian Bale looks vaguely familiar.😂

JudgeJ · 30/08/2022 14:02

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 30/08/2022 13:08

I also heard Geri H do the ‘don’t you know who I am’ spiel at a blinking church hall performance that her daughter was involved in. Yuck.

Next time she does it tell her she's Mrs Whinger Spice, that's one for the F1 fans.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 30/08/2022 12:34

Oh yes, a Richard Ashcroft acoustic set instead of Jess Glynne sounds like a win!

Absolutely ! she did us a big favour 😀

You're not the first and will not be the last.

OKayyyyy - that is who I have been envisaging all the way through this. Now I am going to have to go and Google Christian Bale.

Gregg Wallace shouted at me.
I put on my Mum voice and told him NOT to speak to me like that.
His great stupid lantern jaw dropped, as did that of his “people”

I'd love to hear more about this. Grin

I'm glad to hear George Ezra is lovely, he always comes across as such a sweetie. (Oh god, I'm old now, I look at him fondly like a mother. I love his music and his attitude though)

Sad to hear about Patrick Stewart. In fact, I think I shall refuse to believe it, and carry on thinking he's lovely.

I haven't had any negative interactions with celebs, luckily. The few I've met have been lovely.

FatOaf · 30/08/2022 13:13

Who is Christian Bale?

One of those American cheps who perform in moving pictures, m'lud.

Is he known to the man on the Clapham omnibus though?

Namerchanger1 · 30/08/2022 14:05

I’ve name changed for obvious reasons but used to do some TV work and some modelling in the early / mid 2000s. Nothing huge but something big put me in the public eye for a while (I now have a very boring corporate job, nothing exciting at all!). I also went out with a C lister (sportsman) for a while so was part of one of those sort of couples who would get covered in magazines.

The experience of people approaching you is very very odd. There is a huge mix of people thinking they know you, but not sure how; people wanting to make eye contact with you but also deliberately ignoring you (mostly in restaurant / nightclub toilets); lots of negging from men; then people thinking they’re able to approach you and almost a feeling of owning you because you’re in the public eye. If I was out with boyfriend at the time we’d get people approaching us while eating dinner, not taking no for an answer, wanting a photo etc and basically being really intrusive. Once I remember having a drink with BF which turned in to a bit of an argument and some lads came over to have a picture with him, they wouldn’t bloody leave us alone.

id always try and be polite but it’s honestly really draining to always have to be “on” for fear of being labelled a bitch off the back of one very quick encounter.

my five mins of fame faded as quickly as it came on and I have a very boring life now but would hate to be properly famous for all the trappings it brings now!
