Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

Only ever really met celebs when they were 'working' rather than in the wild, so all ranged from pleasant to absolutely adorable.

Connie from holby city came in on another occasion, she was lovely 😊

Met her a few times, always very lovely!

I'm a massive fan of Milton Jones and went to a lot of trouble and expense (tickets, train fares and hotel) to go to London to see him perform at the Comedy Club.

Just before he was due on stage I popped to the ladies, and just as I was approaching the door, to my astonishment he was emerging from the gents', the doors being next to each other.

The moment he saw me coming towards him, he stopped and gave me the most horrible, sneering stare. His eyes went from my head to my feet, and back to my face, as he turned his nose up as though he had smelled something awful. He pulled a face at me, as though he was thinking "Yuk, how ugly is she?" It was a look of utter disgust. It was so horrible it took me aback and left me speechless, and I could not even say hello let alone ask for an autograph.

Whilst it is true that I am fat and old and not pretty, I thought his behaviour was really nasty and disrespectful, particularly as I'd shelled out so much money and time to see him.

Needless to say, I never went to see him perform again. If I ever hear him on an old radio show it makes me shudder.

I had absolutely no idea that he was that sort of person.

Holly Willoughby

Bad aura about her-hard to explain..fake, intimidating, awful mean girl vibe. I was upset as expected her to be lovely, she really wasn’t.

I don’t think Christian Bale is anywhere near Clooney or Leonardo league. I haven’t seen a single Christian Bale film apart from Empire of the Sun. I wouldn’t recognise him if I fell over him

I assumed this was a piss take, though I could be wrong...

Several years ago Nicole Kidman was in London doing a theatre piece. A friend of mine worked very near to the theatre and would see Nicole and her security coming and going, and she would always wave or smile or shout out, 'Hello Nicole'. Never at any time did Nicole show any acknowledgement apart from glaring at her and looking as though she was massively inconvenienced by someone saying hello. Very cold. Didn't even smile back.

I'm with her. She doesn't know your friend, and she's coming and going from work. I'd find it incredibly annoying having someone call out like they know you.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 30/08/2022 13:46

@chattp that's pretty rude, but even more shocking is how thick you would have to be to think that said item had been untouched by human hand until you got your paws on it!

Caroline Flack was awful to me when I was a waitress. She’d come in for Mother’s Day lunch with a big group of her family (who were absolutely lovely!) but she was rude and made one of my colleagues cry! And for no reason, it was awful.

Bill Bryson on the other hand - most genuine, lovely man I’ve ever met. He was also having lunch and I asked him for an autograph and he didn’t mind a bit. Chatted to me about his books etc. I was always a huge fan and that has always stayed with me!

What did she do? I often read of a celeb being rude, making someone cry etc - but how?

He's a footballer

😆

WiddlinDiddlin · 30/08/2022 13:48

I am sure some folk are just arseholes... I actually worry for some actors, the type like Simon Gregson who has only ever had one role, Steve McDonald, or who have been in a role so long that it doesn't matter... they've become their character!

That can't be good for anyones mental health.

On the other hand I have had a TINY taste of what it is like to have total strangers approach you, feeling as if they know you, are friendly with you, seem to want something FROM you but you don't actually really know what that is, but you need to supply it or they'll be horribly disappointed.

It is really really weird and if you're not ready for it, not feeling up to it, having a shit time... its VERY easy to let them feel awkward and let down.

I'd not be a real celeb for any money, honestly it's horrible!

TheClockEnd · 30/08/2022 13:48

Totally and honestly don’t know who a lot of film actors are… eg: Christian Bale, as I don’t go to the cinema, don’t have the Sky movies/Netflix thing,
So when people are saying ‘who?’ some are, of course, being daft but some of us really don’t know!!

upinaballoon · 30/08/2022 11:57

Who is Christian Bale?

Glad you asked, I always mix him up with the Welsh footballer, similarly I confuse Harry Kane and Styles.

LINABE · 30/08/2022 13:49

NellieJean · 30/08/2022 13:29

Gareth Eriksen is the bastard love child of Gareth Bale, Christian Bales younger brother and Sven Goran Eriksen the former England manager. I hope that’s cleared that up.

😂😂

Mumonthedge · 30/08/2022 13:49

I used to be cabin crew and was waiting for the passengers to leave the plane so we could take over. Off walks Peter Andre with his wife and kids in tow. Looks at us and says “hello ladies” in the creepiest voice. Not rude at all but totally off putting!

PeloAddict · 30/08/2022 13:50

Phil Spencer (of kirstie and Phil) was lovely. Very polite and grateful

SadieBaneso · 30/08/2022 13:51

Years ago I was working at a restaurant in a holiday place when Jim Bowen came in for a meal. We were told in advance by his manager that when serving him not to speak, look directly at him or try to make eye contact. Afterwards he left via the kitchen (presumably in case he got mobbed).

purpleypinkwitch · 30/08/2022 13:53

Dom Joly gave me such a dirty look as I approached him that I didn't bother. Kate Moss wouldn't have her photo taken with my daughter but was lovely about it (she was with her own young daughter at the time so understandable I guess). Geri Halliwell was friendly and smiley when I passed her and smiled.

SouthOfFrance · 30/08/2022 13:53

I met Kim Jong-un a couple of years ago, he was awful. I took the last packet of crisps from the counter at Starbucks and he was so rude about it & complained to the staff that he only ate salt and vinegar crisps. They eventually placated him with a blueberry muffin but it was a tense few minutes.

But he’s not wrong why would he or anyone want it after it’s been handled by someone else?

Veganuaryborn · 30/08/2022 13:54

Jeremy Beadle - miserable, arrogant and walked through the hotel where I worked as if it stank of shit and didn’t make eye contact with anyone let alone speak ( this was at the height of his fame)

Danny Baker - truly lovely bloke and very friendly.

Jimmy Carr - husband met him and said he was a genuinely nice bloke.

MassiveSalad22 · 30/08/2022 12:38

Wow I just googled Christian Bale and he doesn't look how I imagined. I DREAM of someone saying 'Don't you know who I am?' and me going, 'er, no?' 😁

I dream of someone I can pretend I don't know saying Do you know who I am? and will respond No, but if you ask Matron she'll tell you.

I'm struggling to think of a food item in the chilled section that wouldn't be wrapped, or couldn't be washed at home if not.

Ccoffee · 30/08/2022 13:55

I get Christian Bale and Christian Slater mixed up.

You're not the first and will not be the last.

QuimReaper · 30/08/2022 13:56

I'm stunned by Patrick Stewart! I've always assumed he'd be lovely!

I don't have any sleb encounters, but a friend met Bill Night in a supermarket and he was as lovely as you'd expect.

Hoppinggreen · 30/08/2022 13:56

Gregg Wallace shouted at me.
I put on my Mum voice and told him NOT to speak to me like that.
His great stupid lantern jaw dropped, as did that of his “people”
