Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

@Leafy3 @AssumingDirectControl Who is SL? I know that none of the posts are actually about him (or her) but I am still very curious Grin I can think of a deceased comedian by the initials SH but not SL...Ah, Ok I think I have it. SH and SL have the same sounding first name, right? (Yes I know I've probably made this even more convoluted)

baffledbunny · 30/08/2022 23:55

Haven't read the whole thread through yet but loving reading the goss lol.

I've not got much experience with slebs really in terms of horrible ones luckily, but I once saw Ed Byrne at an event once. Love his comedy but he seemed very stand offish and unapproachable at the event. His eyes were like daggers lol. I wouldn't have dared approach him in case he bit my head off!

I met sara cox in a starbucks queue once near work and she was really nice and friendly, big smiler, just like she appears on the tv.

Once saw Anthea Turner at a work do - she seemed very aloof and didn't look at anyone. I was struck by how skinny she was though and her head literally looked like a lollipop stuck on top of her rail thin body.

I met Simon Weston, the falklands hero once, he was sooo sweet. Very intelligent, friendly and kind.

Kirstie Allsop I'm not fond of generally but she was actually quite nice in person.

Oh and I once met the Aerosmith band at HMV doing a signing. Most of them were really friendly especially Joe Perry who seemed very sweet and genuien, but Steven Tyler didn't make any eye contact at all and seemed a bit aloof.

Was going to say David Walliams. Groped my friend when she had a photo taken with him - he was at least 30, she was 18 and her boyfriend was on the other side of him. Absolutely rank.

I thought he was solidly gay! Maybe a power thing 🤷‍♀️

Leafy3 · 31/08/2022 00:02

@DuchessDarty no idea who SH is sorry! 😆SL died pretty recently, not a huge fan of his comedy but he seemed like a lovely guy so I'd have been really disappointed if it was him. Regular on a certain panel show (and I'm being cryptic cos I'd hate for this to get twisted!)

If he is then he's in the closet!

Whatsthattunecalled · 31/08/2022 00:03

David walliams gives me the heebie jeebies

SouperNoodle · 31/08/2022 00:05

Shameless place marking so I can read this thread with a cup of tea in the morning 😁

CPL593H · 31/08/2022 00:09

I have to scrape about for encounters with the famous, but many years ago sat near Paula Yates and her children in a restaurant in London. She seemed a warm and lovely Mum.

My view is that "off duty" celebs should be left alone. If they are rude and/or expect special treatment, or are unpleasant when working, it is different, but I don't know why people approach them in pubs and supermarkets and expect anything from them.

XelaM · 31/08/2022 00:12

My best friend was having a brief affair with Victor Wooten (the famous bassist). He's very nice according to her 😂but he is married with 4 kids and was about 20 years (or more) older than my friend. She is hot though, so he has good taste 😃

Cheers yes, that’s who I realised it was. I’ll PM you who SH is to also not name the innocent.

Pluvia · 31/08/2022 00:14

Sandi Toksvig. When I encountered her in in a cafe in London not long before Covid she was stony-faced and quite intimidating. It was busy and I had to squeeze past her to get to one of the only empty tables. I apologised for brushing her with my coat and she gave me a withering look. I wouldn't dream of bothering a celebrity when they're out in public, so I just settled into my seat and got my newspaper out. When I looked up she gave me another stony stare. No idea what I did to deserve it. She was joined by another woman but every now and then I'd look up and find her eyeballing me in a disconcerting way. Very odd and not like her usual public persona — but then I guess no one can keep that up all the time.

Ilovepugs2017 · 31/08/2022 00:18

Gary Numan 😬 so much so that I rarely listen to his music anymore as he acted so rude!

NewspaperTaxis · 31/08/2022 00:23

I was expecting Ronnie Corbett to turn up at some point, but more the story about him having a rant at a hotel receptionist because he'd done a show and got back late and there was no food available.

It's amazing how every few months a rude celebs thread gets started on Mumsnet yet it's mostly different stories.

Mirandawrongs · 30/08/2022 13:57

I’ve met/worked with lots of famous people and royalty.
the two worst were women who are now almost praised like saints since they are both dead.

Lady Diana. Awful, stroppy, temperamental, bitchy, cutting and very self centred. I knew her before, during and after her marriage.

Caroline Flack. Nasty piece of work. Shouted, screamed at anyone around her if she didn’t get her way.
She once threw a boot at her boyfriend, gave him a black eye.
I also saw her slap her mum because she told her to stop behaving like that.

There are many other names I could list but there are just as many nice ones too!

Have run into Caroline Flack a few times over the years, awful, flirty, attention seeker. How she ever got the high profile gigs she did amazed me

pagopago · 31/08/2022 00:33

Cheryl Tweedy, Stephanie Beecham, Jane Seymour and Mariah Carey are all incredibly rude and entitled, according to a purser cabin crew friend. Cheryl is apparently very aggressive.

AnnieSnap · 31/08/2022 00:40

stopitstopitnow · 30/08/2022 15:32

A well known comedian's family member married a member of my family. The man was an absolute arse all day. Turned up just as the bride was walking down the aisle, left before the couple exited the church, spent the entire reception ignoring everybody except his own family and left before the evening do as he "didn't want randoms bothering him" (tbh nobody gave a fat rat's crack about him, he was just a guest at a wedding as far as we were concerned). I think he was pissed off that, for once, he wasn't the centre of attention.

Come on now @stopitstopitnow It’s not in the spirit of the thread not to name names 🤷‍♀️

Poppins2016 · 31/08/2022 00:44

Kind of think if you approach a celebrity who is just trying to get from A to B (as opposed to an event like a convention where they're being paid to interact with fans) and they knock you back, a) you deserved it, and b) it doesn't make them a bad person. It probably means theyre the one out of the two of you who has boundaries.

I agree with all of this. Nobody wants to be pestered all the time.

WtoB · 31/08/2022 00:54

Gosh - Back in the day

Reg - The Bill - Very grumpy and up himself

Jack - Eastenders - Lovely

Drogba - Ex Chelsea player - Total arse, ignored all the kids waiting for a glimpse of him

Greame Le Saux - and Dennis Wise
Ex footballer ls - Both Really lovely

WtoB · 31/08/2022 00:57

Marcus Brigstocke - Comedian
Really down to earth guy and very generous

largeprintagathachristie · 31/08/2022 00:57

Agree that Brix Smith was incredibly awful when I met her. So, so rude.

ThePumpkinPatch · 31/08/2022 00:58

backatschool · 30/08/2022 11:40

Helen Mirren literally elbowing me out of the way to push in to the front of the queue for airport baggage security. There were only 3 of us in the queue.

Jamie Oliver's entourage - just as he was becoming famous - asking me to leave the computer area in the BA lounge so he could have some privacy. I was the only person in a huge room.

I'd have refused! The bloody cheek!

badbaduncle · 31/08/2022 00:59

Johnny Depp was horrible. We'd ordered a birthday meal and just received the started when he arrived and tried to demand we all moved, we refused and stayed put He sat on another table and gave us death stares and even pointed at us! What an entitled dick!

starray · 31/08/2022 01:07

All these so-called celebrities who don't know who they are....must have very bad cases of amnesia lol

ThePumpkinPatch · 31/08/2022 02:01

PeloAddict · 30/08/2022 13:50

Phil Spencer (of kirstie and Phil) was lovely. Very polite and grateful

Really? He is vile! Hunts animals for fun and blocks anyone who dares ask him why

Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced
Madcatgirl · 31/08/2022 02:09

I’ve met tons of Celebs from a
a-list to absolute z-list nobodies because of my line of work.

the worst were the coronation street types, All of them absolute do you know who I am types, a couple of them live locally to me and are absolute arses to their neighbours too. The nicest include David beckham, what a sweet man always had time for his fans and never ever looked down his nose at anyone, his missus however is a cow. Sir Alex Ferguson is a genuinely lovely man. An absolute gem of a human.

Lionel Richie - sweetheart.
Amber Philips - Princess Anne’s ex-daughter in law. Adorable, lovely and seemed really interested in me and my life. How was I coping with covid, etc. lovely woman
kate moss - she said I was wonderful, so that’l do me. 😁
Ozzy Osbourne - what a hero!
