Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

Many moons ago, in around 1973'ish, I was secretary to the manager of Sundown disco in central London. I helped out once in the ticket desk/cupboard. I was very shy and the DJ James Whale invited me to sit with him as I was very nervous where I could go in my break. Lovely man and very kind. Many years later, saw him on the TV and doubted my memory. Checked his bio and it was him! Last year attended an opera in Surrey with a friend. Was looking where to go and Joanna Lumley approached us to check we were ok. Very natural and caring. She admired my friend's frock!

Those mentioning Oliver Townsend, I worked for him, for all of 6 hours!
I'd just moved from a yard down the road after being totally fed up of the brat I was working for. Arrived at 6:30 and all was standard and good, until as the day went on I asked one of the girls what time lunch was. Was promptly laughed at 'oh we don't have lunch, or breaks'. Went to use the toilet which was located in the digs of some of the girls which was absolutely beyond grim. Asked head groom at 1:30 what time was best for me to go for lunch and how long we had. She was baffled but managed to say I could go now and we had half an hour. Off I went for some lunch and promptly returned back to be lambasted for leaving the yard. Was told I clearly had no idea about the horsey world and would never get anywhere with my attitude, finishing with calling me a bitch 🤣 this woman had clearly not read my CV and so I politely quit then invoiced them for my time. In fairness to his secretary, she was very apologetic and paid me and he seemed nice enough. I know the life of a groom is tough work, and I'm no stranger to it but laws are laws and I'm baffled a top rider can get away with breaking them. As a previous reader said, the whipping incident said it all really. There really needs to be crack down on the treatment of yard staff as it's atrocious up and down the country.

when I was 9 I met Jimmy Savile as I'd raised some money (my idea) with my class, for one of his charities, was invited with all my class to watch his TV show being filmed and got to meet him. He wasn't at all nice, just wanted to get it out of the way

I met him when I was probably about 4 (I assume I was pre school age) with my mum, he was sitting outside the cafe at Canal Gardens i Roundhay. I can’t remember what he said but even 45 years later I remember he clearly didn’t actually like children. I also remember him muscling in to say happy birthday when my friends were singing to me on my 16th birthday at the Flying Pizza. I was clearly more his type then 🤢

Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson, both utterly hilarious. But they were sort of bouncing off each other’s energy and it spread through the room, both very sweet and took the time to talk to people. Eamon Holmes seems lovely, I’ve seen him out and about with his granddaughter and son and he always smiles and stops to speak to people (haven’t approached him myself but seen him with others)

Rory mccilroy and James Nesbit on the other hand 👀 both pleasant as long as the drink is flowing and they are being fawned over, then when there’s been too much drink they are arrogant letchy creeps. They frequent a local bar together when they are both in Portrush and you’d do well to walk straight back out the place if they’re there, always ends in an argument and insults to randomers and staff!

James Nesbitt is often in the shop I work in in Portrush. He's just a normal bloke when he's in.

Itrainedtoday · 30/08/2022 22:41

So were Holly and Fearne really best friends then or was it all for tele? Glad to hear Fearne is nice, follow her on Instagram and she posts some v real posts.
Its such a shame about Holly as I couldn’t get over the difference in her, I’ve watched for years and thought she’d be so so lovely, it was v disappointing.

kierenthecommunity · 30/08/2022 22:43

I can only remember meeting two celebs. Johnny Ball when I was about sixteen, they were filming a TV show in the fish and chip shop where I worked. Very nice bloke. Then Harry Rednapp with some footballers of whatever team he managed then, in a hotel where I was having my hen do. He bought us a round of drinks.

So for not nice ones I’ll have to go to hearsay

I was a PCSO in Burmantofts (inner city east Leeds) famous for the producing Liz Dawn if Vera Duckworth fame. Two separate people said she was an absolute bitch, and totally up herself. She seemed to think she was a cut above her fairly humble beginnings.

Another Cilla one. A uni friend of mine got a lowly job at LWT. He said the only thing Cilla had going for her was that her husband was ten times worse.

My mother never forgave some comedian from back in the day called Dick Emery, as he was in a show at the Leeds Grand, and my sister wanted an autograph. A load of kids were waiting at the stage door, and he left and told them all to foxtrot oscar 😳

katesbushh · 30/08/2022 22:45

I've also met Holly W, through a charity event.
She was awful. In fact I would say she is the rudest person I've ever met.
I was never keen on her anyway but my god. How she has become so famous I will never know.
My friend works in that general setting and she said her husband, Dan is it is very "friendly".
Same friend also said Philip Schofield is a dickhead.

Bobbins36 · 30/08/2022 12:03

Jess Glynne. Awful. As were her ‘people’. Diva demands and rudeness all round.

Can confirm but details would out me 😂

I’m fascinated by all these celebs whose managers or whoever tell security guards and waiting staff etc that they aren’t to make eye contact.
This is bizarre - does it really come from the celebs themselves or does it give the managers a feeling of power to tell lesser mortals how to behave in the presence of God?

But can confirm Jess is certainly one of those 🤣

But what did she actually say? I need details don't be a Half Story Harriet! 🤣

Itrainedtoday · 30/08/2022 22:49

@katesbushh See I thought she was lovely on tv, a little twee, but it didn’t cross my mind that she wouldn’t be as the way she appears-obviously v naive!
When I met her it was so confusing as she just had a sneery look but sort of covered with fake, patronising niceness. She just had quite an overpowering, intimidating way about her-literally the opposite of what I expected 😬

hop321 · 30/08/2022 22:56

Martin Kemp (my massive crush at the time) just walked straight through and sat in the back of the limo with a grumpy face.

If it helps with the disappointment, he lives near me and is very friendly and unassuming. Even when drunk middle aged women attach themselves to him in the pub (my friend, not me) and tell him how much they love him.

blinkingheckthisishard · 30/08/2022 22:56

I once met Paul Daniels. Polite and charming. A true gent.

Kitteymcvitey · 30/08/2022 22:56

😂🤣😂

Kanaloa · 30/08/2022 23:00

@MumbleCrumbs

How did you meet Mads Mikkelsen? I’m so jealous. I remember just before the new Fantastic Beasts film came out I was on a shopping trip to Manchester - we passed a big advertisement for it and (in the middle of a busy shopping crowd) DH said loudly ‘look, Jane - isn’t that your cannibal?’

Now every time we pass an ad for any movie my sister and DS love to say ‘look it’s mum’s cannibal.’ No matter what the film is.

I can’t believe how many of you have met loads of celebs! I guess you maybe live in London/work on certain jobs or something!

Wealthy? So what was that double page spread in the sun a few years back about being reduced to living in a caravan having pissed all his dosh up the wall?

He was in Wetherspoons in Colwyn Bay a couple of weeks ago, showing off his new trainers he's bought from the market. He didn't look like a wealthy man.

katesbushh · 30/08/2022 23:03

@SwissRole123 Haha half story Harriet. I think she was really pissed or whatever else...
So maybe that didn't help.
But I saw her turn her back on someone who asked for an autograph (and I do get how it must be really annoying at times but she wasn't being harassed at all) and this was an elderly lady.
She blatantly pushed past people at the bar... i was just being served and she clicked her fingers in front of my face to the barman.
And in the toilets later on she came in with someone else ( who I believe is well known too but I didn't recognise her) and she was talking to this other person in the next cubicle about how that evening was a waste of her time, the food was shit, she was fed up of people "fucking falling at her feet" that everyone else looked like ugly frumps and she felt overdressed.

Me and the woman at the sinks just looked at eachother like wtf?
And people weren't falling at her feet at all. There were people way more famous than Holly there.
She seems a bit mad tbh.

David Baddiel. Vile, sneering, sarcastic asshole. The sort of kid who hangs around with the class bully and laughs at his jokes.

Will Self. Total asshole.

Reverand Richard Coles was lovely, however. And so was Stephen Fry.

strugglingmum82 · 30/08/2022 23:06

Kerry katona is vile. Don't believe everything she says to the papers, it's mostly bullshit.

katesbushh · 30/08/2022 23:08

For balance

I also met Danny Dyer that night
Not at the same event but at a bar after.
I used to smoke then and was outside looking for my cigarettes in my bag. Couldn't find them
A hand came in front of my face with a box offering me one and it was Danny Dyer.
He was so chatty and delightful.

Asked me what I was doing there. I have a very broad not London accent and asked about my job. Just very pleasant to talk to and we both ranted about Brexit too.

Brigante9 · 30/08/2022 23:08

JudgeJ · 30/08/2022 21:37

If he was taking part in an event he was probably in the zone as many are before they ride.

He was just doing meet and greet. Believe me, I know when someone’s had a few! When I saw him again at a show he did with Geoff Billington, he was very different, cracking show where they did a sort of James Bond piss take with leds outlining their tuxedos, just brilliant!

Her mother Sue is worse. She really thinks she is the queen of Warrington.

Several years ago Nicole Kidman was in London doing a theatre piece. A friend of mine worked very near to the theatre and would see Nicole and her security coming and going, and she would always wave or smile or shout out, 'Hello Nicole'. Never at any time did Nicole show any acknowledgement apart from glaring at her and looking as though she was massively inconvenienced by someone saying hello. Very cold. Didn't even smile back.

Nicole Kidman never gets any positive reviews on these threads. Which is a shame as I really liked her . I think she’s quite up herself now.

ilovepixie · 30/08/2022 23:12

Princess Anne told me and my friends to naff off once! We're were about 8 and living in the Household Calvary barracks. We were down in the stables looking at the horses when she came in and saw us and said you children naff off!
