Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

1000 replies

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

Holly Willoughby

Bad aura about her-hard to explain..fake, intimidating, awful mean girl vibe. I was upset as expected her to be lovely, she really wasn’t.

Yes I've heard bad things about Holly, apparently vile in her younger days when trying to get famous, she used to be a model.

Cattenberg · 30/08/2022 21:50

Kris Akabussi… loads of fun, chatted to everyone, just a lovely guy💯

Kriss visited our primary school when I was about five. There were about 360 of us kids and he posed for a photo with each one of us individually, and kept smiling throughout. So I like him.

lissie123 · 30/08/2022 21:50

Trinny- is she really vile? I really like her make up.

Had to Google Brix Smith.

Brix Smith used to own a jeans shop near Old Street. And I went in to buy some ridiculously overpriced jeans. One of the shop assistants helped and was very nice. Then Brix waltzed in with her little handbag dogs announcing that she had bought some new "pants" and how everyone should look at her new "pants." Then the very British shop assistants kept on going on about how her "pants" were great and how much they really loved her "pants". Cue lots of eye rolling from me. I still bought the pants, erm I mean jeans Grin

Emotionalsupportviper · 30/08/2022 21:52

david guest.... I was walking past and he backed in to me and then asked my opinion on a building he was looking at buying. He was quite funny.

Quite a few people have made similar comments about him over the years when these threads spring up - and I saw a couple of clips of him in I'm a Celebrity and he come across very well.

I have to admit I was surprised- I suppose I thought that all these Hollywood types would be up their own bums

Prince William was behind me in the queue at Wilko's a few months ago. He had a paint roller and some emulsion and pushed past me to get to a self service till. I guess he was stressed, having to shop, decorate and look after the kids at the weekend.

😂😂😂

famously lazy that one

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 30/08/2022 14:22

I have a hunch it's not 100% true!

It's an outright lie - when I met him he only ate Seabrooks Cheese 'b' Chive

Itrainedtoday · 30/08/2022 21:54

@GG1986 No idea about when she was younger, but I worked for a friend of hers (v famous couple-very lovely) around 4/5 years ago and she was v unpleasant

AmyDudley · 30/08/2022 21:54

A friend of mine worked with Rolf Harris and (unsurprisingly!) he was incredibly vile.
I agree with pp that Martin Shaw is a lovely man - he used to live nearish to me and often saw him out and about.
I've met Ian McKellen a few times and every time he has been lovely, ditto Simon Callow, who wrote me a lovely message when I asked him for an autograph.
My DIL met Rik Mayall and he was charming funny and utterly lovely - much missed, a gorgeous man.

Oh that reminds me of many many years ago, I'm really old, I was at Badminton and fell over like an idiot, no horse just clumsy feet. Someone helped me to my feet and asked it I was OK, it was Richard Meade, I almost fell over again and again!

Oli always comes across as a bit of a tw*t - think he showed his true colours with the whipping incident at Badminton in 2019(?)

William Fox Pitt is lovely though ❤️

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 30/08/2022 22:03

Brix Smith was married to Marl E Smith. I mean, if you wanted to learn from the maestro of rude (understatement) he was certainly yer man!

Surely saying you don't know who Christian Bale is, is a bit like saying you don't know who George Cloney is, or Leonardo DiCaprio?

Definitely not in the same league, at all- talent-wise or looks-wise 🤣

10HailMarys · 30/08/2022 12:36

I used to have a job in which I met quite a lot of low-rent celebs. The worst ones were Leslie Grantham, Shane Richie and Gary Lucy. All obnoxious. Also, Richie and Lucy are both so incredibly thick that I barely know how they breathe without a reminder.

Met Harry Kane 3 weeks ago utterly charming

Yes, Harry Kane is an incredibly sweet, polite man. Marcus Rashford is also lovely. The absolute world's nicest footballer of all time is Son Heung-Min, though.

I am so happy to hear that confirmed about Son Heung-Min! I always think he comes across so well

Sartre · 30/08/2022 22:08

Young blood or whatever he’s called is incredibly demanding but his fans are cult-like so there has to be some boundaries.

DH went to school with him, admittedly he was a few years below DH but it was a small private school so everyone knew one another regardless. Said he was an entitled arrogant arsehole even back then so nothing much has changed… DH can’t stand the sight of him, scoffs every time he sees him Grin.

I know someone who worked with Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby for some time. Said Fearne is absolutely lovely, Holly is a total bitch.

bruce43mydog · 30/08/2022 22:11

It's a shame about Holly Willoughby, she comes across so lovely on TV.

Melliphant · 30/08/2022 22:11

Genuinely surprised by the bad John Peel and Milton Jones experiences. I've worked with them both (MJ only very briefly) and they were fabulous - and it's not like I was so utterly important that they had to be. Peel could be a bit grumpy, but can't we all?

Another vote for Clare Balding being just the nicest person imaginable. Her Alice is rather lovely too.

Have met a fair few slebs, but am struggling to think of any really bad encounters - probably being in a work context helps. Jenni Murray wasn't always a pleasure, but she did improve after having to host a few discussions about workplace bullying. Alan Price (The Animals) was a bit of an arse, as was Mike Batt in the days when he was working with the lovely Katie Melua - "ditch the womble" was the advice one of my colleagues gave her. Tim Vine's infinitely nicer than his brother.

I'd start every interaction with Yassss Queen GrinGlitterball

My daughter and I say this to each other all

Back in the 80s so ages ago, my friends and I waited at Sydney Airport for hours to meet Spandau Ballet. Tony Hadley, Gary Kemp and Steve Norman all spent time chatting and letting us take photos with them, but Martin Kemp (my massive crush at the time) just walked straight through and sat in the back of the limo with a grumpy face. I truly understand they were probably tired after the flight but the other guys managed to be kind and it only would have taken a moment to at least smile and acknowledge a small group of massive teenage fans. I have never forgotten the disappointment.

Paul Young was the loveliest celeb, so kind and down to earth ❤️

Wealthy? So what was that double page spread in the sun a few years back about being reduced to living in a caravan having pissed all his dosh up the wall?

He’s in and out of rehab

DuchessDarty · 30/08/2022 22:14

This is a great thread but I wish I could do an edited version cutting out (a) all the posts about not knowing who Christian Bale is, and (b) all the posts about nice celebs. Title says RUDE celebs, people!

I don’t understand who, like one or two posters on here, you can say that X was the nicest person you ever met when you had a one-off, 5 min convo with them after telling them you loved their work Confused

Ive worked with/for and known a fair few celebs. None that were rude. But context is important. If you’re a professional adviser to them or you and the celeb have disabled kids in the same class who are friends, the celeb is unlikely to be rude to you. If they are stopped constantly when going about their normal business then yes, they may be.

limitededitionbarbie · 30/08/2022 22:14

Not me but my DH had to cut off Gordon ramsays restaurant off the gas once. He was a twat. Paid the bill in the end but he was a twat.

Phil Spencer (of kirstie and Phil) was lovely. Very polite and grateful

Glad to hear this. Love Phil!

Namechangedforthisthread1237 · 30/08/2022 22:22

Name changed for this thread as people who know me have heard this story before.
I met Russel Brand in Belfast airport about 10 years ago.
The airport was practically empty and I think he was coming back from a gig. We both headed through security at the same time on either side of each other, both set off the alarms.
As I was finishing being patted down by the female security guard, he came over and pretended to push her out of the way and started patting me down, and said "I'LL do this one!" and proceeded to piss himself laughing at his own joke, grinning madly at his entourage who had came through security with him.

I just kind of smiled in a withering way, went off to the side to put my boots back on and tried not to make eye contact again.
He obviously thinks everyone knows who he is, finds him terribly funny and terribly endearing.

It does make for an amusing story though.

I don't actually mind him and he wasn't particularly rude, though was drawing attention to himself - but I did get the impression he loves himself, or did at the time. I think he may have mellowed a bit over the years.

MumbleCrumbs · 30/08/2022 22:22

Laurence Llewellyn Bowen barged into me quite forcefully at Manchester Airport a few years ago, then sauntered off with zero apology.

Mads Mikkelsen is the most magnetic handsome man I've ever seen in person (sorry DH) and he's incredibly respectful and kind to boot.

I once stopped and held the door open for Prince Edward. He walked through and didn’t even glance at me, not a word of thanks. Just glided through. Ignorant twat!! No idea why the queen had 4 kids when she had the heir and spare.

I used to work in St Andrews when Prince William was there, and he was known to be very polite and charming. He regularly popped into a bakers near his flat (sometimes slipping away from his 'minders'), and the daughter of my colleague was in Morrisons trying to get something off a high shelf when he lifted it down for her with a "let me help you with that", she was unable to speak with the shock of meeting him like that. His Uncle (Andrew) was pretty much hated though - visited very regularly in his helicopter - put a lot of people out insisting on landing at the RAF base nearby and taking up the personal protection team to head over to the R&A for a game of golf.

I have also worked on contracts with the RN, PA is not a popular character there either. However Edward (& Sophie) are very much loved and revered for their time and attitude on visits and stays on board ships - both are very polite and seemed genuinely interested in people. (Ex) Prince Harry appears to blow hot and cold. Can be very rude and standoffish, but similarly could be very charming and 'laddish' and happy to socialise with a lager with the 'boys' (when his minders allowed).

Princess Anne is universally loved and I suspect you could be made to walk the plank if you say a bad word about her! I have met her twice - once many years ago and I can't remember her being tiny but she always had that bouffant hair and tall hats. She was charming and funny and spent a lot of time taking to people at the function she was attending (Scottish Rugby involved). The second time more recently in her RN uniform and I noticed at this point how dainty she looked -- until she gave her speech and she was very impressive and passionate.
