Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

Strikes me as a man who assumes he always knows better than everyone else, even over people who have experience while he has none. An impression that was reiterated with every encounter I had.

But like I said, tell him I said hi. His reading of the lavender fields story was nice and will put you to sleep if his pompous, self-aggrandising company doesn't.

Ok, I'll tell him you said hi

sageandrosemary · 30/08/2022 21:00

Interacted with a few celebrities as I used to work as a waitress at various events across London but fortunately never had any bad experiences. Roy Hodgson stands out as someone who was particularly lovely though.

Also used to live in a very affluent area of London so often saw celebrities there. Never interacted with any though I did almost walk into Ricky Gervais coming round the corner from Tesco Blush And I did once get a filthy luck from an actress as she had to pull her chair in a little to allow me past with a pushchair in a busy cafe.

Do.

Alternativeky, hi Steve.

This is an incredibly busy click-baity thread which comes around every couple of months or so. Well done OP.

I am not surprised about Konnie Huq, never warmed to her.

I would actually faint if I ever met Brian May!

Kim Yong Un once blew me a kiss at Gatwick Airport.

ReneBumsWombats · 30/08/2022 21:03

I always thought Konnie Huq must be cool if Charlie Brooker liked her.

Squidlette · 30/08/2022 21:04

Saw Alice Cooper at an airport a couple of years ago. Dead early in the morning. Entourage all being herded about; usual airport chaos. He looked knackered. But he was unfailingly charming to any of the delighted travellers who went up to him. I know he's been in the game a long, long time, and it's things like that that make you see why. If nothing else, it's professionalism.

Holly Willoughy - Rude, awful, very "don't you know who i am?" Very different from her tv persona.
Jess Glynn - Terrible.

Ben Wishaw is looooovely. So polite, too. Julie Walters is bonkers but in the best way.

PixiePop147 · 30/08/2022 21:05

Backstage at a popular festival, Noel Gallagher took the entire tray of chips from the buffet of food for staff, leaving none for anyone else. And yes, he did eat them all.

Andante57 · 30/08/2022 21:06

I’m fascinated by all these celebs whose managers or whoever tell security guards and waiting staff etc that they aren’t to make eye contact.
This is bizarre - does it really come from the celebs themselves or does it give the managers a feeling of power to tell lesser mortals how to behave in the presence of God?

Whataboutno · 30/08/2022 21:07

@Squidlette I thought you meant he was dead then! I like Alice Cooper

DB had a summer job as a stagehand in the 70s at Wyndhams Theatre in the West End. Bill Nighy was starring in whatever play was on. So this was long before he hit the big time (Bill, not DB). DB says he was so sweet, funny and friendly and would often buy DB a pint in the bar and sit and chat. DB is so glad he went on to be majorly famous.

George Clooney is unfailingly kind and thoughtful to journalists at press junkets and brilliant with the fans milling about outside before and afterwards. He always takes time to take selfies, sign autographs and chat and looks everyone in the eye and seems genuinely appreciative. No idea what his private persona is like but he’s got the whole being lovely to fans and respectful and smily to lowly press down to an art-form in itself. Have never been a fan of his films (though I loved ER) but can’t fault him professionally from what I’ve witnessed.

How did you know?

The obvious wish to counter any criticism of him, the slightly overwritten and mostly irrelevant responses and the fact the conversation was starting to bore me.

bellaboo90 · 30/08/2022 21:13

I don’t understand why these people think so highly of themselves. There are people out there literally saving lives!

I do however feel it’s inappropriate to approach celebs for photos or conversations in certain places, i.e. an airport or if they’re out having dinner. That would annoy me.

I met Bruce Forsyth once and he was so lovely. Very humble and friendly!

Ahhh. I see. I will have to be more careful to conceal my identity in the future.

Caroline Flack was awful to me when I was a waitress. She’d come in for Mother’s Day lunch with a big group of her family (who were absolutely lovely!) but she was rude and made one of my colleagues cry! And for no reason, it was awful.

Bill Bryson on the other hand - most genuine, lovely man I’ve ever met. He was also having lunch and I asked him for an autograph and he didn’t mind a bit. Chatted to me about his books etc. I was always a huge fan and that has always stayed with me!

So happy to hear this as I LOVE Bill Bryson

Theanswerisblowinginthewinds · 30/08/2022 21:14

That Milton Jones guy isn’t even funny

Moonface123 · 30/08/2022 21:15

l wouldn't ever approach a celebrity for a photo, autograph or small talk. l think its abit cringey/ rude and they are allowed to say No. It must be a complete pain in the arse for them getting approached all the time. However no excuse to be rude to staff, hope one day they are rude to the wrong person, serves them right.

Esther Rantzen. Absolutely horrible woman. Only nice when on camera...

Dreadfully rude woman, I can't stand her - and she did actually shout very loudly, "don't you know who I am?" - we all did, but my colleague made a point of politely asking her name when she 'demanded' to see the theatre director. It gave us a laugh at the time!

Emotionalsupportviper · 30/08/2022 21:17

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 30/08/2022 12:47

someone should have grabbed them by the scruff and hoofed them out of the lift.

I thought that too - though perhaps you're be less likely to be sued for assault of you photographed him, and the baby, and said :Anything happened to this little 'un and you're all over the papers, mate" and asked people if they'd be witnesses

ReneBumsWombats · 30/08/2022 21:17

I met Esther Rantzen a couple of times. She wasn't rude, she was just very loud.

PixiePop147 · 30/08/2022 21:19

Julie Hesmondhalgh is the nicest lady you’ll ever meet. A genuine kind soul.

Welshrarebitontoast · 30/08/2022 21:19

Vanessa Feltz - seemed a little “tense” that no one was paying her much attention at a hotel.

Derrick (the walking) Weatherman (is he famous? Anyway, not quite the amiable cheeky chap he presents himself as.

Charlotte Church - came into a Mac shop and most people were busy getting their make up done, so paid her little attention. After about 10 mins she whipped out her mobile phone and called her Mum “Hi Mam, it’s me Charlotte. Yes Charlotte Church”. Made me laugh - I think she’s since left the limelight and seems to be a lovely lady.

Brilliant thread.
