Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

1000 replies

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

A writer I know says John Sim is an absolute arsehole. But he is tolerated and gets work because he's a good actor

bowchicawowwow · 30/08/2022 20:25

Andy from Cebeebies / Andy's Wild Adventures. Spotted him on a filming break at a local attraction and pointed him out discreetly to the DC who waved. Next thing he bounds over a fence and gallops over to chat to the DC and us, even had a picture with the kids. He was absolutely lovely and it made our day.

Broadhillbaby · 30/08/2022 20:27

Some people might be more famous than you but no better than you. If they are rude to you be rude back, if they push in front of shove you shove them back. They get the bad publicity if others see / film it. Manners cost nothing.

Are you absolutely sure it wasn't Fatima Whitbread?

I managed a thing with comedian Tom Allen for a year. He is very catty and bitchy in real life and not at all warm or friendly. I was glad to no longer have the need to see him.

Teresa May on holiday in a remote bit of Scotland, lovely, chatted with our kids for quite a while. Same holiday a few days later bumped into Princess Anne, also lovely. She made conversation with us, (not the other way around).
Victoria Beckham, met her a few times as our kids moved in the same groups, she was always very smiley, fun and polite, not the person being described on here at all.
Steve and Helen Backshall, very nice.
Ricky Tomlinson, genuine and funny guy.
Rick Astley, nice enough.
Richard Ashcroft, friendly enough.
Paul weller, genuinely nice man.
Rupert Grint, nice
Colin Morgan, lovely.
Sarah Ferguson, pots for rags. Bonkers.
Jenna Coleman, polite.
Ben Wishaw, lovely, lovely chap, want to take him home and make him read to me.

The only "famous" people I've met who were rude were
Carole Middleton, Bear Grylls, that daft Blur singer who makes cheese in the cotswolds and Peter Andre's wife.
Even George Osborne managed a smile.

I met Peter Andre’s wife in a work context & she was lovely on that occasion. I wouldn’t have had a clue who she was if I hadn’t been told.

Not anymore.. he's acting still but z list b grade crap.

He regularly rants on about being a "very wealthy man" but still has to take the bus home to his village in north wales.

Wealthy? So what was that double page spread in the sun a few years back about being reduced to living in a caravan having pissed all his dosh up the wall?

Years ago some of my colleauges (paramedics from the Valleys) were providing medical cover at the millenium stadium for a U2 concert, when a secuirity guard approached them and explained to them that they were to avert their eyes at all times when in the presense of Bono. They told the secuirty guard to explain to Bono that without medical cover his concert would not be going ahead and in their own country that would look were the fuck they wanted to, and that was the end of that.

Brilliant! Well done the Valleys. Cheeky little tax dodger. Not especially loved in his own country.

Might've been Peter Andres first wife that was the rude one !

Worked in the Trafford Centre. Saw a few celebs.
We had to close our store when David and Victoria Beckham with a baby Brooklyn came in as the crowd outside was ridiculous. She was not at all like I expected. Very friendly and chatty, David was quite quiet, Brooklyn played with Henry the hoover.
Zayn from One Direction with a giant bodyguard.
Tons of Corrie actors.

bowchicawowwow · 30/08/2022 20:36

@MomwasCasual Grin with the jumping over the fences etc and the hair I can see how he could pass for Fatima Whitbred!

Bryan Ferry. I used to waitress at verrrry posh events and he was playing a set at one. The way to the stage was through the kitchen and we all had to turn away and were not allowed to look at him as he walked through. God knows what he thought would happen if us peasants got a glimpse!

This made me laugh. Who do some of these people think they are. It's nuts, the way some of these celebrities react to normal members of the public.

Posted before adding the rude encounter 🤦🏻‍♀️
Tons of Corrie actors and tbh, they were the ones that were quite rude and expected massive discounts or things for free 🙄

Celebs love to talk to my mother. Two years ago she got chatting with Michael Douglas in a hotel breakfast room after he asked if she was done with the newspaper. Said he was a lovely man, very debonair but approachable and easy to talk to - recommended some specialists for an issue she was concerned about. Then there was the time she couldn't get rid of Tony Curtis at an art gallery opening - he just really wanted to talk about his painting with someone! I know there are a few more but cant think of them right now. More of the 'oh is that who that was?' variety.

Andy Summers of The Police once cut in front of me at check in at Heathrow and tried for a free upgrade. Later saw him three rows in front of me in economy. Nick Cave was standing in the same queue, but for a different flight, perfectly content to not be noticed or push his way forward.

How could you think anything else of Holly..

Sol narcissistic and moneygrubbing on Instagram and her various sponsor deals..
It rots the brain.

The Rebekah Vardy syndrome.

Michael Douglas visits the city we live in as it’s where CZ Jones is from. We lived about 400m from their house…. Outside their private gates! But they would always give a little wave if they passed. He’s an absolute darling… sits and reads his paper on a park bench overlooking the bay. Her brother however is a prime knobber! Tried to pull my friend once with the my sister is CZJ. She had already been pre-warned he was a letch!

TravellingSpoon · 30/08/2022 20:52

Anna Ryder-Richardson pulled a 'dont you know who I am' at the airport when I worked for a now defunct airline. She was the last to get on the plane with her massive bags so everyone could see her. She did a massive, OTT performance of walking down the aisle and showing her big shopping bags.

Howard, who used to be in thr Halifax ads was a massive diva when I met him at a work event. He really thought a lot of himself.

Anton De Beke is a bloody diamond though. So lovely. So is Claire from Steps and Mark from Westlife.

LizzieSiddal · 30/08/2022 20:52

Having spent time in public with them, I can honestly say it’s really shit and kind of a headfuck to be constantly accosted/interrupted/yelled at by people. For each of those people doing the approaching, it’s just the once but over the course of an afternoon, it’s, say, fifty people.

This! People should realise you’re not the only one to say Hi or wave at a celeb that day/week/month/year.
They don’t want to spend the whole day waving or talking to complete strangers. If you see famous person out and about just ignore them and let them get on with their day.

ImpartialMongoose · 30/08/2022 20:09

Yeah, he's got it all upside down. Straight women didn't need to cruise because we never needed to hide our sexuality, it was never illegal and we wouldn't get the shit kicked out of us for it. Although, we did need to pretend we weren't "slags". This just strikes me as a man who doesn't have any close female friends. Hopefully his views have changed in the last 12 years.

Strikes me as a man who assumes he always knows better than everyone else, even over people who have experience while he has none. An impression that was reiterated with every encounter I had.

But like I said, tell him I said hi. His reading of the lavender fields story was nice and will put you to sleep if his pompous, self-aggrandising company doesn't.

CookieCoo · 30/08/2022 20:54

I once stopped and held the door open for Prince Edward. He walked through and didn’t even glance at me, not a word of thanks. Just glided through. Ignorant twat!! No idea why the queen had 4 kids when she had the heir and spare.

I'm a massive fan of Milton Jones and went to a lot of trouble and expense (tickets, train fares and hotel) to go to London to see him perform at the Comedy Club.

Just before he was due on stage I popped to the ladies, and just as I was approaching the door, to my astonishment he was emerging from the gents', the doors being next to each other.

The moment he saw me coming towards him, he stopped and gave me the most horrible, sneering stare. His eyes went from my head to my feet, and back to my face, as he turned his nose up as though he had smelled something awful. He pulled a face at me, as though he was thinking "Yuk, how ugly is she?" It was a look of utter disgust. It was so horrible it took me aback and left me speechless, and I could not even say hello let alone ask for an autograph.

Whilst it is true that I am fat and old and not pretty, I thought his behaviour was really nasty and disrespectful, particularly as I'd shelled out so much money and time to see him.

Needless to say, I never went to see him perform again. If I ever hear him on an old radio show it makes me shudder.

I had absolutely no idea that he was that sort of person.

Milton Jones - funny, but no oil painting himself… how upsetting for you.
