Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

@MzHz What, call him ma'am? Unusual.

I never ever tell my bad famous-people stories, but I will say that both Harrison Ford and George Clooney are lovely, lovely people.

Sigh! Harrison Ford - my first crush and still the best…

Yes, Harry Kane is an incredibly sweet, polite man

Much missed by 1D fans though.

🤣

My Ex had a pint with Aidan Turner. He was working in Cornwall and popped into a pub for a quiet pint. He had no idea who he was, but they chatted at the bar for quite a while about life, work etc and Aidan mentioned they were filming in the area.
Ex described him when he got home, we showed him a picture and he was 'Oh yes, that' was the bloke' 😁

My friend worked at a theatre where Jane McDonald (Loose Women, cruise singer) was doing a show. He said she was the worst guest they'd ever had and they were very close to barring her. He also said he had Robbie Williams in the week before her and he was no trouble at all.

Arabella Weir (Does My Bum Look Big in this book) turned up halfway through a writing event I was attending and started screaming at the tutor that this is not what she came for. In the end the tutor had to take her outside for ten minutes before she returned briefly and was as pleasant as anything. This was just before that book came out.

Heard several horrible stories about David Wailliams. Someone who did his removals said he never left a tip and he'd never want to work with him again.

I'm a massive fan of Milton Jones and went to a lot of trouble and expense (tickets, train fares and hotel) to go to London to see him perform at the Comedy Club.

Just before he was due on stage I popped to the ladies, and just as I was approaching the door, to my astonishment he was emerging from the gents', the doors being next to each other.

The moment he saw me coming towards him, he stopped and gave me the most horrible, sneering stare. His eyes went from my head to my feet, and back to my face, as he turned his nose up as though he had smelled something awful. He pulled a face at me, as though he was thinking "Yuk, how ugly is she?" It was a look of utter disgust. It was so horrible it took me aback and left me speechless, and I could not even say hello let alone ask for an autograph.

Whilst it is true that I am fat and old and not pretty, I thought his behaviour was really nasty and disrespectful, particularly as I'd shelled out so much money and time to see him.

Needless to say, I never went to see him perform again. If I ever hear him on an old radio show it makes me shudder.

I had absolutely no idea that he was that sort of person.

Wow, that's awful. It's not like he's Brad Pitt himself, is he?

GonnaGetGoingReturns you live near me- I have seen Philip Glennister and I think his DC goes to a local school. My mate used to cut Mickey Flannagan hair. Jo Brand used to compere the local state junior schools quiz as her DD went there, that was a laugh, she did give me the finger once when in her car when I beeped her, (she was right on this occassion as they had recently changed the road markings) James Nesbitt flirts with most but supposedly shouted at his neighbour for saying good morning. He was reminded he was a neighbour- i used to see him storming round Dulwich Park. Jason Statham loves close by with his gorgeous girlfriend, he is friendly enough and she seems a little shy.

@chattp Adam Woodyatt is a miserable fucker isn't he.

I’ve heard lots of people say that but when my daughter who was about 3 did background work on eastenders he was really chatty and friendly to both of us and I really liked him.

well they're both Welsh Bales.

Christian Bale is English , not Welsh. Don’t give him to us, we don’t want him !

I’ve heard he’s pleasant but I’ve never met him myself so can’t give my own impressions.

She’s obnoxious. Liked to throw her weight around. Very entitled and demanding and perceives slight when there’s been none. Will quickly resort to being loud and confrontational, and doesn’t have a problem throwing personal insults (I witnessed this but it wasn’t directed at me, for what it’s worth). From what I know from others who have had dealings with her, this was par for the course and has been for years. Got the strong impression that these specific character traits don’t go too well with alcohol.

I made him tea once (milk no sugar) and he was gorgeous! Ioan Gruffudd. I hate men that cheat though so balls to him. Maybe she is an arse but there's no excuse for cheating on the Mrs.

I met quite a few celebs, can't think of any horrors off the top of my head. Met Donny Osmond probably a dozen times and he's lovely. Ditto Michael Ball. Musical Theatre fan, only yesterday I found my Funny Girl at The Savoy programme that Darius Danesh Campbell had signed when I spotted him in Pret near the theatre; my diary says I asked for an autograph (I'd zipped into the theatre to buy a programme when I saw him, very unlike me to be so bold), he asked my name and signed it with an "x". Jesus, he was a beautiful man, I was so upset when he died earlier this month. I saw that show probably 6 or 7 times (before the autograph) and there was always a gasp when he made his first entrance on stage.

Several years ago Nicole Kidman was in London doing a theatre piece. A friend of mine worked very near to the theatre and would see Nicole and her security coming and going, and she would always wave or smile or shout out, 'Hello Nicole'. Never at any time did Nicole show any acknowledgement apart from glaring at her and looking as though she was massively inconvenienced by someone saying hello. Very cold. Didn't even smile back.

Did your friend try screaming, "give us a smile, love!?" I'm sure that would have made Nicole give them a huge grin.

Is that you, Jess?

My god, yes well done you spotted me.

Honestly, such an unoriginal and stupid response.

My kids have played football against Terry’s son and daughter. My son was very proud that he nutmegged Terry junior right in front of his dad. He didn’t get invited round for tea. On the touch line I and other mums had no clue who he was. Grumpy looking bloke.

Bubblyinblanch · 30/08/2022 17:08

One for the Irish Mumsnetters but I met John Connors, the Irish traveller actor and the man is a gobshite. Definitely thinks he's the big I am. He's a nasty tool.

Thehonestbadger · 30/08/2022 17:08

I’ve met a fair few as worked as an actor/extra for a few years.

No one incredibly twatty but one emmerdale actress was very up herself, had to sit through an extremely long scene with her trying to strong arm a few of the others ‘glam emmerdale girls’ into going on a expensive foreign holiday and having Hello magazine pick up the tab. They didn’t seem keen. It was awkward.

Bill Nighy was very nice.

A few made in Chelsea cast members- exactly what you’d expect but nothing insane.

Bumped into drew Barrymore in green park once and she was all apologies (me too as you do) definitely no high and mightness.

Went on a night out about 10 years ago with what turned out to be half the England football team at the time, I hadn’t a clue as don’t do football at all. My friends knew and didn’t tell me because I would have objected to ‘chasing footballers’ and I was designated driver. Took me about 30 minutes of awkward shouty club conversation with Daniel Sturridge and Michah Richard’s to establish they were not in-fact on an IT works night out. FFS my friends still laugh about it! I’d hit it off with Micah by that point had a bit of a dance and a kiss but total gent and no funny business when I wanted to head off with my friends early. Pretty respectful tbh.

A couple of not especially contemporary C list ones:

(1) The bad - ages ago, ran into the ex footballer Lee Chapman, someone who I was with [a football fan] asked for an autograph, what LC wrote was barely legible but on close inspection turned out to be a less than pleasant obscenity.

(2) The good - relatively recently, walked past the actress Tara Fitzgerald [was never huge but in a fair few bits of film and TV including 'waking the dead' and a mid-sized role in 'game of thrones'] in the street, we didn't recognise her but one of the children in our group dropped a glove/scarf/hat or something, none of us noticed but TF did, she ended up chasing after us to make sure that said garment was returned to its owner.

Matt Le Tiss- lovely guy, met him in a restaurant, we had a photo taken and he came back later to have a cuddle with our baby and have a chat.

Bruno Fernandes and Fred (man u players) walked into a lift a few days ago. Both said hello and bye!

Yeah but regardless if I see someone touching something and leaving it I’m less inclined to pick it up

Do you realise how many people have touched stock in a shop? Quite a lot! And they all don't have clean hands!

I'm very impressed by Tara Fitzgerald, huge Brassed Off fan here!

Lonnie Huq about 20 years ago. She wasn't worth losing my job over but I really wish I'd put her on her backside. Jumped up madam. So arrogant and rude.

I hope you are reading this Konnie. You duped the children of this nation into believing you were nice. You weren't!

erikbloodaxe · 30/08/2022 17:22

Konnie not Lonnie
