Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

Can't believe the amount of people who don't know who Christian Bale is! madness! go watch some films!

David Attenborough- awfully rude when I was a waitress at a fancy hotel near home in my teens. Also made such an unbelievable mess of the table- and such a waste of food.

I'll pass thank you. Not really keen on films and the ones he seems to be in have even less appeal.

lightisnotwhite · 30/08/2022 15:14

Patrick Stewart - very horrible man. Very rude to the theatre staff and patronising.

Interesting. My DH worked with him on stage and he was very polite and respectful apparently DH has worked with proper twats.
Patrick also came in to read to the students at a school I worked in. Amazing he came at all ( he was on at theatre nearby)and and was lovely to kids and staff.

I met Kim Jong-un a couple of years ago, he was awful. I took the last packet of crisps from the counter at Starbucks and he was so rude about it & complained to the staff that he only ate salt and vinegar crisps. They eventually placated him with a blueberry muffin but it was a tense few minutes.

I think you made that up 😂

crochetmonkey74 · 30/08/2022 15:14

I have a very embarassing story - i once saw someone famous, didn't clock they were famous but knew I knew them. I sort of had a massive brain fart. I was in London but I'm a teacher so trips to my small local town involve a lot of seeing people I know. Parents often look at me for a while trying to place me or catch my eye. Anyway, in London, this one guy kept looking at me, so I was looking back and smiling desperately trying to place him. We were sort of locked into each thinking the other was going to say hello. Eventually I said to him "hiya ,it is me , you can say hello you know I won't bite "(was more friendly than it looks written down) he looked totally baffled and just walked past me , I then realised where I knew him from which was that he was quite a famous actor not a parent of a student , but I think he went off thinking who the hell I was that he hadn't recognised. What a knob I was totally by accident

Wow that's a really shitty thing to do at a children's party!!

He's well known to be a nob though. Loads of stories about his entitlement.

whumpthereitis · 30/08/2022 15:15

Pete Doherty was sweet. In his own world, but kind. Was happy to chat.

Dan Brown was very unassuming. Softly spoken and came across as shy. Very polite and downplayed his success.

Eminem was also polite. Was greeting fans at the time. Comes across as quite introverted in ‘real life’, not comfortable with attention but was making the effort to give people a good experience.

Alice Evans has been an absolute dick for years. Not surprised in the slightest at recent events.

SleeplessInEngland · 30/08/2022 15:16

Rude celebs make for fun gossip but it rarely changes my opinion them. As Jack Nicholson once said: 'the average celebrity meets more people in a year than the average person does in a lifetime.' The odds are stacked against them in that regard.

ScribblingPixie · 30/08/2022 15:19

Pulled over on a single track Cotswold road to let Derek Jacobi past. No little salute of acknowledgement from him! 😡😂

I'm going to be laughing over this for days, SomethingSnappy.

I also have no idea who Christian Bale is !

I must live near Tom Hardy as he's always on the local Facebook with people bumping into him saying how absolutely lovely he is .

I worked with Elton John briefly in a menial role and he was lovely. I think you can always judge people by how they treat their lowest ranked staff.

I've heard lots of lovely things about Tom Hardy. He's been spotted a few time in the Tesco near to where i work. Not my cup of tea but a lovely man by all accounts.

I hope you stood your ground and said no to Jamie Oliver’s nonsense.

And Helen Mirren's. In fact Helen Mirren sounds worse elbowing people out of the way.

I used to have a job in which I met quite a lot of low-rent celebs. The worst ones were Leslie Grantham, Shane Richie and Gary Lucy. All obnoxious. Also, Richie and Lucy are both so incredibly thick that I barely know how they breathe without a reminder.

Met Harry Kane 3 weeks ago utterly charming

Yes, Harry Kane is an incredibly sweet, polite man. Marcus Rashford is also lovely. The absolute world's nicest footballer of all time is Son Heung-Min, though.

As a Spurs fan, this warms my heart, although as expected. Harry Kane and Son Heung Min are such wonderful role models in a sea of questionable morals of highly paid footballers.

Reesewithafork · 30/08/2022 15:23

oh! I met Christian Bale a good few years ago and he was utterly charming and bought me a drink! Must have caught him on a (very rare it seems) good day!

I've never had a rude encounter, the only encounter I've had with a celebrity was the opposite, he was astonishingly kind.

I was in Malaga and wanted to take a picture of a building close up. I went up the stairs looking at the camera and no looking where I was going when I crushed into someone coming down the stairs quickly, he was Antonio Banderas. It was a bit of a shock, we both apologised, I suddenly realised who he was and said something like "you look fabulous". He took my hand, planted a kiss on top and said "glad to hear a compliment these days" with the biggest smile. And took off downstairs. It all took less than a minute.

Lovely man.

Oh my word - that’s amazing! He does seem like a genuinely lovely man.

Several years ago Nicole Kidman was in London doing a theatre piece. A friend of mine worked very near to the theatre and would see Nicole and her security coming and going, and she would always wave or smile or shout out, 'Hello Nicole'. Never at any time did Nicole show any acknowledgement apart from glaring at her and looking as though she was massively inconvenienced by someone saying hello. Very cold. Didn't even smile back.

Im sure I read that Nicole had an incredibly difficult time while doing the play (I think it was The Blue Room). She had really bad stage fright apparently.

Why? I don't like films. Well, not Hollywood bollocksbluster films, anyway. I like films with plots, characters, dialogue and cinematography rather than explosions and computer graphics.

OK, overlooking the fact that the films you are sneering (but actually just displaying spectacular ignorance about) at also have plots, characters, dialogue and cinematography, you could still watch Empire of the Sun, Little Women, The Portrait of a Lady, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, American Psycho, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, The Machinist, The Prestige, American Hustle, Vice…all of which fit your high standards and also feature Christian Bale. Imagine that.

As a student working during the Summer break my late OH worked with a nice bloke, we arranged an evening out with him and his wife/gf but I was ill on the day and we didn't make it. He became famous 15 years later, the Yorkshire Ripper!!!

Prince Charles did the same to my Mum many years ago. She pulled over to let him past (her right of way but he didn't give her any choice!) No thanks so she gave him the bird 😂Very unlike her 😳

JudgeJ · 30/08/2022 15:27

Yes, Harry Kane is an incredibly sweet, polite man

Much missed by 1D fans though.

Devilishpyjamas · 30/08/2022 15:30

Tell me more about Alice Evans. I thought she just seemed quite fragile & has an ex being an arse.

I'm stunned by Patrick Stewart! I've always assumed he'd be lovely!

I don't have any sleb encounters, but a friend met Bill Night in a supermarket and he was as lovely as you'd expect.

@QuimReaper Me too. My husband did some work on his house and he could not have been nicer.

Patrick Stewart that is

stopitstopitnow · 30/08/2022 15:32

A well known comedian's family member married a member of my family. The man was an absolute arse all day. Turned up just as the bride was walking down the aisle, left before the couple exited the church, spent the entire reception ignoring everybody except his own family and left before the evening do as he "didn't want randoms bothering him" (tbh nobody gave a fat rat's crack about him, he was just a guest at a wedding as far as we were concerned). I think he was pissed off that, for once, he wasn't the centre of attention.

NGKfiver · 30/08/2022 15:33

My H is kind of in the public eye and (for different reasons) a couple of my friends are also well-known, and in one case, very famous.

Having spent time in public with them, I can honestly say it’s really shit and kind of a headfuck to be constantly accosted/interrupted/yelled at by people. For each of those people doing the approaching, it’s just the once but over the course of an afternoon, it’s, say, fifty people. I know they won’t get much sympathy but it is a strange situation. I think if it’s a real fan that’s one thing but often it’s just someone either wanting to shout their name at them or maybe have a photo. I can hardly believe how often people genuinely say “I’m not really a fan but I thought I should get a photo anyway!”. Also, because it is constant and often difficult - the fiftieth person might not get the dazzling smiles and charming chitchat that the first few people got.

I don’t buy the idea that it’s all their fault because they’re public property now or they “chased fame”. Lots of famous people happen to be famous because of a talent or a skill, and I’m glad they do what they do - it’s nice to have musicians or good sportspeople representing your team or to watch a good film with believable actors.

It’s a weird punitive pact to insist that because someone is a successful athlete or singer they be available to the public at all times, be perfect and polite, and always willing to ignore their friends/family/phone call if a stranger demands it, and then if they have one incident of not being bountiful then people can legitimately label them as a bitch or a diva or a nasty piece of work.

SnakesandKnives · 30/08/2022 15:35

A (distantish) family member has worked with Patrick Stewart on various things over the years. She says he is just a normal person - usually lovely and really polite but has off days like everyone and has def been short and snappy on occasion but its rare

i also think for anyone in celebrity world it must be really hard to not be able to have a day like that without some people then assuming its ‘what you’re like’
