Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

1000 replies

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

Worked for a casting agent years ago when Tom Hardy was just becoming known. He came in to read for a part on camera and they asked me to read opposite him so he had someone to act at. I was understandably really nervous (I was only 18) and fluffed a line slightly.

He was super annoyed by me and asked the casting director ‘if he had another one who could read’ or something to that effect in front of me. He was trash back in the day though everyone seems to love him now. I know he was meant to have substance issues at the time but still a knob imo!

Met Heath Ledger very briefly at the same job just before his passing and he was very kind and lovely.

I also have no idea who Christian Bale is !

I must live near Tom Hardy as he's always on the local Facebook with people bumping into him saying how absolutely lovely he is .

I worked with Elton John briefly in a menial role and he was lovely. I think you can always judge people by how they treat their lowest ranked staff.

Welsh not american

He calls himself English. He was just born in Wales.

I saw a clip recently of Keanu Reeves being approached for an autograph while he was having lunch, he signed the autograph but it’s no wonder some celebrities get annoyed ;there really is a time and place to ask someone for a photo or autograph.

Never understood autographs. Who's impressed by them? Do the people getting them think their friends won't believe them?

Dramachameleon · 30/08/2022 14:56

@Pikafuckingwho That John Terry story is the absolute best. How awful

@chchchchangizz If Jools Oliver is so scared of being recognised then why does she put herself and her kids in the public eye so much. Bizarre

I met Kim Jong-un a couple of years ago, he was awful. I took the last packet of crisps from the counter at Starbucks and he was so rude about it & complained to the staff that he only ate salt and vinegar crisps. They eventually placated him with a blueberry muffin but it was a tense few minutes.

Is this true? Where was this?

You got me, I just made that one up 😂

I did once attend a dinner party with Vladimir Putin once though. He sat right at the other end of the table from everyone else, it was weird.

CelebWatching · 30/08/2022 14:58

I worked in a hotel that was appearing in the 'Holiday' programme.
I was really disappointed but Jill Dando was a complete cow, not even a diva, just a total cow. She was really nasty to everyone, both hotel staff & the TV crew.
When the cameras were on she was sweetness personified, the lady that we all know & love. As soon as the cameras were off, she went back to being a cow.

I walked in to a lift with Jamie Oliver’s wife in it. She looked absolutely terrified that I would speak to her or something. I just gave a friendly smile and turned round to face the door while she cowered in the back corner. Really bizarre.

I suppose she's only had the limelight thrust upon her because of her choice of spouse. Must be odd being married to a household name when you're a shy type yourself.

Doesn't Jools have her own cookbook and clothing range etc? She's courted a little bit of fame no doubt to publicise them.

Dramachameleon · 30/08/2022 14:59

Exactly - Jools Oliver has courted fame. I wouldn’t be bothered if I saw her but it’s a bit rich to be scared of being recognised. Plenty of famous chefs partners are not recognisable

That’s just rude of him.

Loving this thread!
I don't recall anyone super famous but as a PP mentioned, you see people's photos all the time & think you KNOW them.. very embarrassing when I waved to a Duchess like she was my best mate.. :-0

I was once in a lift when Damon Albarn got in. He pressed a button and nothing happened so I reached past him and pressed it again and the doors closed. He huffed and sighed loudly and his bad vibes filled the lift as we ascended.

I had the misfortune of working with David Walliams. Arrogant, creepy, obnoxious, rude and needs to learn how to blend his layers of foundation better.

Savage 😂😂😂

I always remember years ago on here someone saying their mum went up to Paul McCartney and asked whether they were at school together because she recognised him from somewhere

Musti · 30/08/2022 15:05

I’ve googled Christian bale and don’t recognise him. The name is familiar though.

However, it must be annoying to be started at and interrupted constantly as you’re going around your daily lives. I’ve lived in a country where people are a different race and it does get weary that every time you look up there are people looking at you. You also become known as the token foreigner in your area. So there’s no anonymity.

Helen Mirren literally elbowing me out of the way to push in to the front of the queue for airport baggage security. There were only 3 of us in the queue.

Jamie Oliver's entourage - just as he was becoming famous - asking me to leave the computer area in the BA lounge so he could have some privacy. I was the only person in a huge room.

Did you? You should have told them to piss off

Sitdowncupoftea · 30/08/2022 15:07

I've worked with many celebrities. I have some stories. One day I will write a book. There are some nice ones. Just remember they are all actors on the stage its their TV face you see off stage. Treat them as a person they are no better than you. It's just a job they do.

PuzzyGalore · 30/08/2022 15:09

Interested in the people saying how lovely Martin Shaw is. An actor friend who never had a bad word to say for anyone told me he was the rudest person he had ever worked with.

Butteredtoast55 · 30/08/2022 15:09

A friend of mine worked with Michael Ball and would agree that he is a lovely man with a great sense of fun. She also worked with Jason Donovan and he was apparently extremely professional, kind and down to earth. She works in musical theatre and said that JD was really thoughtful and attentive to everyone, not just the 'star players'.
My only claim to fame is sitting next to Adam Faith at a wedding and he was charming. Oh, and I have met Princess Anne who was well-briefed, polite and absolutely teeny tiny!
So. come to think of it, I have nothing to contribute on the OP's question😁

Several years ago Nicole Kidman was in London doing a theatre piece. A friend of mine worked very near to the theatre and would see Nicole and her security coming and going, and she would always wave or smile or shout out, 'Hello Nicole'. Never at any time did Nicole show any acknowledgement apart from glaring at her and looking as though she was massively inconvenienced by someone saying hello. Very cold. Didn't even smile back.

But did your friend know her personally? If not, why on earth was she shouting and waving at her every morning?! If someone I’d never met in my life was doing this to me every morning as I went to work, I’d think they were insane. Not a chance I’d be bloody smiling back!
