Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

How odd

Not really and I’m sure if you saw someone handling groceries & you didn’t know how clean their hands were, you would be less inclined to pick up the same item they just put down.
if it was odd then sales of hand sanitizer wouldn’t have taken off.
I also wash my hands after I’ve handled all my groceries out of the packaging.
I caught covid in a supermarket

Helen Mirren literally elbowing me out of the way to push in to the front of the queue for airport baggage security. There were only 3 of us in the queue.

Jamie Oliver's entourage - just as he was becoming famous - asking me to leave the computer area in the BA lounge so he could have some privacy. I was the only person in a huge room.

I walked in to a lift with Jamie Oliver’s wife in it. She looked absolutely terrified that I would speak to her or something. I just gave a friendly smile and turned round to face the door while she cowered in the back corner. Really bizarre.

Also met Jeremy Irons once. Prick.

Rhydian off Xfactor, very odd but nice enough.

Rev Jesse Jackson, charming.

Margaret Atwood, peculiar but pleasant.

Sue Charles from BBC Wales weather, amazing woman.

Sharron Davies, icy but polite and professional.

Chris Evans DJ, sleazy.

Rachel Burden BBC presenter, lovely woman.

Martin Lewis money saving expert, exuberant, clever and a bit much but nice.

His wife Lara Lewington, really lovely.

Wishimaywishimight · 30/08/2022 14:44

Quite a few years ago now Denis Hopper attended a medical clinic I was working at (it was in Ireland, he was making a movie here). He looked over and said "Hey there" with a smile. He had a real 'presence', very charismatic.

Fisifoofoo · 30/08/2022 14:44

Eddie Redmayne and his wife, chatted to them while he was waiting to be interviewed by my young son who was very starstruck. They were absolutely lovely. As was Joanna Lumley, made you feel like you were the most important person in the room. 😊

Nancydrawn · 30/08/2022 14:44

I never ever tell my bad famous-people stories, but I will say that both Harrison Ford and George Clooney are lovely, lovely people.

FatEaredFuck · 30/08/2022 14:44

All I want to do after this thread is watch Batman again Grin

Veeragall · 30/08/2022 14:45

I've met quite a few celebrities through my job. Rudest by a country mile was Nick Knowles. Vile, horrible man.

Quite a few lovely ones mentioned here. Those that stick out for me - Michael Ball, Gordon Ramsay, Jade Goody, Lesley Joseph, Gerard Butler, Tony Blair.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 30/08/2022 14:45

Oh - when I was 9 I met Jimmy Savile as I'd raised some money (my idea) with my class, for one of his charities, was invited with all my class to watch his TV show being filmed and got to meet him. He wasn't at all nice, just wanted to get it out of the way. Years later my DM asked if he'd done anything to DB or me (DB was also there) - we luckily said no.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 30/08/2022 14:46

I suppose she's only had the limelight thrust upon her because of her choice of spouse. Must be odd being married to a household name when you're a shy type yourself.

FatOaf · 30/08/2022 14:46

Can't believe the amount of people who don't know who Christian Bale is! madness! go watch some films!

Why? I don't like films. Well, not Hollywood bollocksbluster films, anyway. I like films with plots, characters, dialogue and cinematography rather than explosions and computer graphics.

54isanopendoor · 30/08/2022 14:46

Going back a bit ... Bob Geldof told my rather shocked Mum to 'Feck Off' in WHSMiths. Only he didn't say 'Feck'. She was horrified as, then, he was 'St.Bob'

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 30/08/2022 14:47

Oh also met Sir Alec Guinness as he visited a friend of mine in hospital - very very nice man - and nice to us kids too.

Devilishpyjamas · 30/08/2022 14:47

I love these threads.

I had a good experience with Jim Bowen. Roald Dahl was lovely as well. I gave up my seat for him and he was charming in return. James Blunt was charming as well.

Middle son used to be a kiddie actor. He worked with quite a few well knowns and all were really lovely. Some still recognise him now (ten years later) and stop for a chat when he bumps into them. I think stage door when Jason Donovan was performing was enough to put him off fame for life 🤔Middle aged women were asking him to go back in and find Jason for them (he was about 10 or 11, and of course he didn’t!)

I wouldn’t call out to a celeb or ask for
a photo if they were just going about their day -
seems a bit intrusive. tbh I probably wouldn’t recognise many. Would have no chance of recognising Christian Bale. Would probably have said something in return to his comment.

and what is it with all the celebs who don’t let people just talk directly to them? That is bizarre.

SleeplessInEngland · 30/08/2022 14:47

Bale's a great actor but I've no inclination to meet him. People just discovering the on-set rant must have had their heads under a rock when it came out - it was worldwide news and shared relentlessly online.

Incredibly he won an oscar straight after it - talk about good crisis management.

RosemaryJuice · 30/08/2022 14:48

Well yes that’s why it was obviously a joke!

But well done for working out it probably didn’t happen.

Stepdad (Irish) went to art college with Bob Geldof and Adam Ant but can't really recall much about either of them, sadly! Obvs pre-fame.

LisaVanderpump1 · 30/08/2022 14:49

Seen a couple of 'slebs out in the wild. Shared a table with Olivia Colman (it was one of those places where people from different parties are seated on the same long table). She seemed very nice and normal - I think we were both a bit sloshed and both knocked drinks over!

Paid at the till next to Kate Middleton in Peter Jones at Sloane Square. She had a couple of bodyguards but wasn't flanked by them, and from what I overheard, she was being very nice to the sales assistant that was serving her.

Once met Joe Lycett and he was very funny and nice. Patrick Kielty ditto. Ricky Hatton was happy to pose for a pic at an airport too. Met Michael Rosen at a book signing and he was lovely and chatty (and signed my book with a great note that makes it sound like we're best mates!).

My bf saw Craig David walking through an airport in France "complaining" about being recognised while being approached by... absolutely no-one.

Never met Peter Andre, but I know he once kept a gift that wasn't intended for him, which is mega tacky.

Allthegoodnamesaregoneffs · 30/08/2022 14:49

I've never met him but would love to, but all the stories you hear of Keanu being a really nice bloke make me love him even more.

Outedagain · 30/08/2022 14:50

Stayed at a hotel where JZ was reportedly staying years ago (Scotland) … could hear him talking for hours through the vent late at night!! Unfortunately, I was too tired to listen and with respect to his wife, not in the mood to care!

BraveGoldie · 30/08/2022 14:50

Roger Federer- knocked on my (male) friend's hotel room door, when my friend was practising for a concert. He complimented him on his beautiful clarinet playing, said he'd been enjoying it, then walked away without even introducing himself. Smile

pistachi0nuts · 30/08/2022 14:50

@FatOaf He is certainly not an action movie actor!

Mirandawrongs · 30/08/2022 14:51

I do have an absolutely lovely one too!

Jill Dando, when I started a new job within television centre for BBC.
Its like a maze in there (it is now ITV and flats) and I obviously looked very lost when she walked up to me hooked my arm with hers and said “I’m lost too, let’s get found together”

truly wept when she was murdered

RosemaryJuice · 30/08/2022 14:51

Sorry that was to the poster who was doubting that Kim Jong-Un was in Starbucks 😂

And we're all very impressed at your good taste. But explosive blockbusters probably constitute about 10% of Bale's filmography.

dutysuite · 30/08/2022 14:52

I saw a clip recently of Keanu Reeves being approached for an autograph while he was having lunch, he signed the autograph but it’s no wonder some celebrities get annoyed ;there really is a time and place to ask someone for a photo or autograph.
