On the beach, crying, on my birthday

Happy tears. I have been dreading today. DH died six months ago and life has been hard lately but here I am, on a beach watching my fosterling run back and forth through a rock pool. He's always hated water, usually screams on the beach but today he is so happy. He's 2 and has additional needs. To see him so happy is the best gift ever.

You need to be able to grieve. And be able to fall a part. A special needs 2yo isnt helping you in that matter. Might be even damaging later on as the grieve will eventually catch up with you.

Its ok NOT to be ok. Its mandatory really.

Yes, but there's a time and place to grieve, and a time and place to seize moments of joy

Today, OP is seizing a moment of joy. And that's OK, in fact more than ok

The small person asked for bed at 6.30 and is now sound asleep so I am drinking gin (without cake, but I will get cake tomorrow). I may sneak some cheese on toast in a bit. I did manage to have a cream tea this morning though, well it IS my birthday after all

And my step counter says I have walked 10 miles today (mainly uphill I think!) so cream teas and fish and chips have already burned away!

Well done for being able to find joy through your grief; for forming attachments despite your loss and for putting your caring skills to good use.

Cream tea for breakfast, fish n chips for lunch and cheese on toast for supper sounds like my kind of birthday food!
