Saturday evening in your home

I love reading these kind of threads, I find it very comforting so thought I'd start one and ask what is going on in your homes on this Saturday evening?

I've been studying all day for my master dissertation defence and final oral exam whilst DH took DS (2years old) out to the shops and took him on the trams and buses (he's a public transport kind of toddler). We then had a nice dinner of sweet chilli chicken boats. We've just put DS down to sleep and DH has gone to get popcorn from the cinema next door to munch over a movie night! It's chilly autumn weather here right now which I love so it'll be comfortable in the living room watching the movie.

DH is away this weekend so it's just me and DD (bliss!) We went to the cinema this morning to watch DC Superpets (brilliant!), got her some bubble tea after as she's obsessed then home and to the local park for an hour. Home, watched Harry Potter (she's also obsessed) and made pitta pizzas for tea followed by Ben & Jerry's! Got her into bed (although she's not asleep!), Spoke to my mum for an hour, watched a bit of Reading festival with some wine. About to watch some Netflix then bed. Although DD is in my bed which last night meant no duvet or space for me! Oh I'm also WFH till 10pm!

Bugbeau · 27/08/2022 21:10

We have my cousin and her kids staying. Just had a chocolate fondue, then put my littlest to bed and the older 3 are lounging on the sofa bed watching Madagascar. This is the first peaceful moment we have had all day!!

Olsi109 · 27/08/2022 21:12

Town this morning to jewellers as a stone had come out of wedding ring, Tesco's to do food shop, Washing from our mini break, watched football this afternoon.

This evening - family meal (Mexican, fajitas, tacos etc), DH walked dog whilst I put baby to bed and DD's did whatever with hair masks/tanning 🙄 sat down now watching Stranger Things with some treats and a tea (I dont drink) with middle DD and DH whilst older DD watches some social media influences boxing (teenage crap basically). Typical Saturday for us working around DD's job, DD's netball and DH season ticket.

Purplehonesty2 · 27/08/2022 21:14

I've just had a shower and washed my hair, the dc are decorating the living room for my birthday tomorrow and making a cake so I'm banished to the bedroom.

Dh and eldest ds are watching tv whilst supervising the goings on.

Today was a very outdoorsy day, horses, lambs, cows all sorted out. The dc spent the entire afternoon playing on some hay bales and making a den, then went back after tea to finish it off. So I think we will all sleep well.

Philandbill · 27/08/2022 21:16

I love this thread too, lots of steady and content people having ordinary days. I went out for coffee and cake with DH this morning and this afternoon helped a friend prepare the venue for a party tomorrow afternoon. This evening we had pizza and (older) teen DD1 has a friend staying here before they go into London tomorrow morning. DD2 is still in the bath- she thinks she is a seal- and DH and I are lounging on our bed with cups of tea as DD1 has banished us upstairs as she has taken over sitting room with friend. Love hearing them chat downstairs though it's very muffled 😀

I don't live in the UK. So may be a bit different. Just about to walk down into town for food with the dogs now it is cooling down , once we have eaten. A walk along the beach. So the dogs can have a dip. Go for a gin and then home, glass of wine on the terrace with some tunes.

This would be my perfect!

blackpearwhitelilies · 27/08/2022 21:20

Went to a NT property with DH and DS18. Gorgeous gardens. Bought an Emily Bronte rose. Nice supper of fried rice and veggies. Reading/ mnetting while DH watches Pointless. Hoping we might go to bed together soon . . .

mumda · 27/08/2022 21:21

Chocolate orange smarties.

Xiaoxiong · 27/08/2022 21:23

Pasta dinner with fennel, white wine, sausage and spring greens plus a big green salad. Kids helped wash up and wipe down surfaces, bit of huffing as they did a half arsed job so made them do it again

DCs (almost 9 and 11) played a bit of dungeons and dragons with DH as dungeon master and then went into the garden and shot nerf guns at each other

Ran a bubble bath for the DCs to get into one after another. Had deep and meaningful convos with them sitting on the floor of the bathroom with a glass of wine - they are always chattiest in the bath

Read them the next chapter of our bedtime book (wolves of Willoughby chase)

Folded a load of washing listening to a podcast and hung the next load out, next load on to wash overnight

About to do a barre fitness video in my bedroom. Shower, cup of tea and an early night!

herigoagain · 27/08/2022 21:27

My daughter is crying because she feels like her life is awful, my husband told me to eff off earlier and my oldest just ignores me. Just another Saturday night 😔

TheCutter · 27/08/2022 21:28

Wow I wasn't expecting so many replies! I disappeared as DH arrived back with the popcorn and we watched John Wick on Netflix.
Sorry I can't reply to everyone but I've read every single one! Thank you all for sharing. I am very jealous about the takeaways 🤣 I'm a Brit living in an EU country and the Chinese doesn't compare to UK Chinese, and we don't have chippies. I could really eat a Chinese now... 17 weeks pregnant and cravings 🤣

DH is working (hospitality). DD1 has her best friend here as they have not seen each other for a month as DD1 was in Greece for 32 days.

went to food festival today at nearby palace, lots of cheese samples, and gin! Walked home through the park as had only walked 7.7k steps. DS (18) now cooking me ribs and chips for dinner. Watching old box sets on tv.

thelittlestbird · 27/08/2022 21:35

Husband away for the weekend so a quiet one here. Did a bit of shopping earlier, took baby to the park on the swings and got a lovely coffee from the new coffee van there. Put the baby to bed, baked some cookies and now rewatching Line of Duty for the millionth time. Off to bed soon to starfish :)

Slight cheat as we're not at home but we're currently on holiday in Stonehaven in Scotland. It's an absolutely lovely coastal fishing town with the most lovely harbour and we've absolutely loved it! I want to live here (though I suspect it's not always quite so warm and sunnySmile)

Today we visited the ruins of an ancient castle high on the cliffs by the sea and then had soup and a sarnie at a seafront cafe, went to the park and then had a gigantic ice cream from Aunty Betty's.

We then went to the beach and watched the boats coming in and out with a pint from the pub opposite the beach while the kids played in sea and sand. They made some new friends and just ran and laughed. Just had some locally caught mussels and then haddock and chips and after jet washing the kids in the holiday place I'm now in a hot bath with a cold beer and DH is watching out for dolphins outside as we're right on the sea line.

The DC are now happily catching up with their long last iPads in their beds that they last saw this morning before we left so all is quiet!

I've had an absolutely shitty few years and today is truly one of those that you have to pick up and put in your pocket and be thankful for.

I love these sorts of threads, the insight to and calm to peoples everyday life makes me feel all cosy especially when people use the word autumnal!

Next Saturday for me will be washing, work and beans on toast!!

I love Stonehaven. My sister lives just up the road, I'm 500 + miles away. When we went it was very cold, but still a lovely place. Sounds lovely.

Dalaidramailama · 27/08/2022 21:43

I was chilling on my bed upstairs reading a book. Kids in their rooms doing their own thing and my oldest was downstairs watching the football with his dad.

He is 13 and I got a text asking me if there was any room on the bed for a hug. OF COURSE there was. Bless him, my lovely boy. Still not too old for a big cuddle. ❤️

Aries491 · 27/08/2022 21:50

Just finally got my 12 week old baby girl to sleep, come downstairs to breathe for 5 mins and finish my can of coke vanilla. Spent the day indoors with DP and baby playing and feeding, won't be long until I'm in bed - never sure how much I will get before night feed number one! :)

Speakeasy22 · 27/08/2022 21:50

Lovely relaxed Saturday. It was a misty morning till the sun broke through then breakfast in the garden, did lots of washing as it's very sunny and followed the football on the radio while DH worked on a garden project. Got a few things sorted around the house with various stops to sit outside and read some more of The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak. Grown up DD is staying so when she got home we had a glass of wine in the garden then dinner.

Libre55 · 27/08/2022 22:07

As summer is coming to an end, tackled a few outdoor jobs that will be not as nice to do in the rain. Fixed the back gate and put a barricade bar on it. Mended the front gate. Fixed some panels on the shed. Watered the garden and de headed some flowers. Cut some new Lino for the kitchen. Had it for ages, but it needed cutting down to size in the garden. Laid it down and temporarily tacked it to the floorboards. Will let it settle and trim precisely in the week.

Had a hot tub under the stars with DH while watching a couple of episodes of Below Deck. Sweetcorn and courgette fritters with salad for tea. Now laying in bed watching TV and channel hopping. DH watching some action movie downstairs.

I like these threads too, thanks for sharing OP.

I'm staying at my in-laws on the coast for the bank holiday weekend, and the 4 of us went to a local pub for an early dinner. I had a pretty good vegan burger with chips, and raspberry sorbet for dessert. Played Uno and Scrabble when we got back. Me and DP in bed now as we're doing a 40 mile cycle tomorrow, although I'm reading for a bit (The Song of Achilles).

Brigante9 · 27/08/2022 23:20

Made tea for my DH coming home from work. Then put clean clothes away, had a shower, then we went into the kitchen where’s a big recliner and watched The Sandman. Odd episode, number 5!

Dunnottar Castle? I come from near Stony. You're seeing it at its best! Have you been to the salt water swimming pool?
