Saturday evening in your home

I love reading these kind of threads, I find it very comforting so thought I'd start one and ask what is going on in your homes on this Saturday evening?

I've been studying all day for my master dissertation defence and final oral exam whilst DH took DS (2years old) out to the shops and took him on the trams and buses (he's a public transport kind of toddler). We then had a nice dinner of sweet chilli chicken boats. We've just put DS down to sleep and DH has gone to get popcorn from the cinema next door to munch over a movie night! It's chilly autumn weather here right now which I love so it'll be comfortable in the living room watching the movie.

Spent today playing games and craft with kids, and taking them to swimming lessons. Chinese takeaway for tea! Just about to start bedtime, and then after that think I'll carry on with the skirt I am attempting to make DD out of harry potter fat quarters I picked up in Aldi, accompanied by an audiobook and a glass of wine. Maybe a tv programme with DH later.

I’ve spent the entire day sorting out dd8’s bedroom, going through all her clothes and taking 3 bin bags worth of stuff to the charity shop. Her room is lovely and organised now.

Because dh was working today and I’ve been busy we just had a quick dinner of hotdogs as I couldn’t be bothered cooking. The house is pretty clean and tidy, I’ve just brought the washing in from the line and put it away and the house is currently silent. It’s heaven!

Dh is doing something in the garden (no idea what), dd18 is sat with her headphones on next to me on the sofa watching something on her iPad, dd15 is in her bedroom and dd8 is at her friend’s house next door but one.

I’m going to give it half an hour or so of enjoying the peace then I’ll pour myself a glass of wine and find a film to watch.

Took 3 year old DD to the woods today for a run around and play. We sang 'Going on a bear hunt' around the trees.

Spent the afternoon doing gardening then came in for her to watch Frozen 1 whilst I made some elderberry syrup.

Butternut risotto for dinner.

BrutusMcDogface · 27/08/2022 19:09

My kids are eating filled pasta and salad, plus I just got some frozen smoothie mix which they’re going to have for pudding so they’re very excited (and eating all of their dinner! 😉)

I have the most enormous amount of housework and schoolwork to do before Thursday so won’t be relaxing tonight! I just wish my 4 year old would go to sleep before 10/11pm 😭

GoneWithTheWine1 · 27/08/2022 19:12

Made homemade pizza for dinner. DS1 is gaming in his room, DS2 is playing minecraft.

Im sat with a cat on my lap, reading a book Mumsnet.

MolliciousIntent · 27/08/2022 19:14

Sitting at the top of the stairs waiting for DD1 to fall asleep, while the babysitter makes herself a cuppa. In about 5 minutes I'm making a run for the wine bar down the road!

LazyDaisy22 · 27/08/2022 19:20

We’ve just eaten - homemade burgers and chips for a Saturday night treat - and now ready with a glass of wine to rewatch Unforgotten (while wishing Nicola Walker was still going to be in season 5).

Antarcticant · 27/08/2022 19:25

Phoning my mum, then going to have dinner shortly and then DH and I will dig out a DVD to watch. I've got some beers to drink later.

Mammyloveswine · 27/08/2022 19:27

DH has sorted kids out and they are watching SpongeBob in my bed as s treat. Ive got a g&t on the go and am just going to chill for a bit on my phone then we'll watch s film.

We've been out all day and it's been very hot here today! Had fish and chips at the coast so that was a nice treat.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 27/08/2022 19:29

I've been decorating the bedroom and my back is killing me. Having a curry for tea and then going to carry on rewatching Breaking Bad tonight with some Prosecco, although I think I might fall asleep, I'm knackered!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/08/2022 19:31

DP’s been away at a sport thing all day, and due back shortly. I’ve been to get my hair cut, done a load of laundry, and had a lovely long bath. Now in leggings/big sweatshirt/Uggs, and feeling cosy with the cat on my lap.

Butternut risotto for dinner, and I think a glass of wine later.

DrEllie · 27/08/2022 19:31

DC2 at grandma's. New puppy is chewing everything in the kitchen while I'm cooking chilli. With a nice glass of red. Watching Alan Carr on telly

Christmasfun2022 · 27/08/2022 19:32

Love reading these threads, especially the ones with teenage children as gives me a taste of what I have to look forward to!
today we had a lazy morning in the garden, then I took DD1 trampolining while DH looked after baby DD (Saturday afternoon is always our mother daughter time so she doesn’t feel left out with the baby - she’s 4 and we normally do cinema or swimming so trampolining was new and quite fun!). We’ve all had a BBQ tea cooked by DH. We’ve just got the kids to bed and DH has gone to the shops to fill the car up and get some stuff for our holiday next week. I’ve just done a mad dash round the house to tidy up after the kids and am now relaxing with a book but actually on mumsnet. Set myself a crazy reading challenge for mat leave and not doing very well with it. Dying for a glass of wine but we drank last night and trying to only drink 2 nights a week, plus holiday coming up where we will drink every night haha 🙈.

Impatientwino · 27/08/2022 19:33

Slight cheat as we're not at home but we're currently on holiday in Stonehaven in Scotland. It's an absolutely lovely coastal fishing town with the most lovely harbour and we've absolutely loved it! I want to live here (though I suspect it's not always quite so warm and sunnySmile)

Today we visited the ruins of an ancient castle high on the cliffs by the sea and then had soup and a sarnie at a seafront cafe, went to the park and then had a gigantic ice cream from Aunty Betty's.

We then went to the beach and watched the boats coming in and out with a pint from the pub opposite the beach while the kids played in sea and sand. They made some new friends and just ran and laughed. Just had some locally caught mussels and then haddock and chips and after jet washing the kids in the holiday place I'm now in a hot bath with a cold beer and DH is watching out for dolphins outside as we're right on the sea line.

The DC are now happily catching up with their long last iPads in their beds that they last saw this morning before we left so all is quiet!

I've had an absolutely shitty few years and today is truly one of those that you have to pick up and put in your pocket and be thankful for.

I love these sorts of threads, the insight to and calm to peoples everyday life makes me feel all cosy especially when people use the word autumnal!

Next Saturday for me will be washing, work and beans on toast!!

MrsLannister · 27/08/2022 19:36

I’ve spent the day sorting out my daughters old clothes for eBay and trying not to cry while DH plays with his new techy toy in his games room.

DD14 is out at a festival with her friend and her DPs and has whatsapped us pics of her fake tattoos trying to give us a heart attack 😂

Ive showered and in lounge wear now and I’m huddled under my heated throw with the cat on my lap (Scotland!) waiting for our Chinese takeaway while drinking a lovely glass of wine. Just counting my blessings 🥰

ThisisCollie2022 · 27/08/2022 19:36

Had a bike ride today and now home watching Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs 2 with spontaneous chocolate treats.

Once DS is in bed at 8:30 we'll (DH and I) probably stay up and chat until 11pm about nonsense...

I used to hate weekends but absolutely loving them now.

Very nippy and autumnal here too!

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 27/08/2022 19:36

A Betsy day, did some gardening, picked a neighbour’s plums, walked DDog, tidied around, it’s been a ‘nothing in particular day’, quite relaxing.
Enjoying a G&T and watching Michel Roux, drooling over the French dishes he’s creating. How I wish I’d married someone who could cook like him!
It’s muggy here, but the evenings are drawing in so Autumn is on her way 👏

StarDolphins · 27/08/2022 19:37

because I feel like there’s not going to be many more nice weekends, I’ve spent the day washing & drying my oldies/blankets & winter jumpers ready.

now I have my dd’s friend over for a sleepover so it’s a chaotic mess! & vvv loud!

SmithsterSister · 27/08/2022 19:37

Just chilling here, currently on the sofa with late evening sunlight pouring in through the window.

We live 2 mins walk from the beach so might go for a walk later but DH only just home from work so will probably end up just curling up with Netflix.

Our little dog is sleeping soundly on the sofa. Peaceful and quiet here 😌

DustinsHat · 27/08/2022 19:37

We spent all day today at a water park then got a McDonald's. DH is working tonight, the baby is in bed, just DS to get to bed (shouldn't take long after the busy day out) then I'm on my own! Not sure what I'll do. Might just have a glass of wine then crawl into bed with a book and some chocolate.

lollipoprainbow · 27/08/2022 19:38

Been sorting out my dd10 bedroom and selling some bits ! Just about to pour a glass of red and have some cheese and biscuits lovely !!

mommybear1 · 27/08/2022 19:38

Lovely day here today chilly to start with DH had serious autumn feelings but turned out beautifully sunny. Early eye appointment for DC, park with grandparents home for lunch, garden in the afternoon followed by a movie. DC now off to bed, salad done, pizza in, beer chilled awaiting DH after DC have nodded off and finally to finish Only Murders in the Building 😁

violetcuriosity · 27/08/2022 19:39

I'm 15 weeks pregnant and am finally feeling more human after surviving hyperemesis and collapsing from low blood pressure earlier in the week. The iron has kicked in and I've been able to clean my house, make a homemade Mac & cheese for a bbq tomorrow and gone food shopping. DP has been playing football away so it's just me and DD7 at home, we made homemade pizzas and had GU lime cheesecakes as a treat. She is really suffering with vulvitis in the evenings so currently waiting for her to finish her bicarbonate of soda bath and then bed. I won't be long behind her x

felulageller · 27/08/2022 19:39

I really needed a rest day today.

Stayed in bed til 11.
Watched some TV, news, a documentary, a home show.

Went for a jog. Sat and enjoyed the view.

Spoke to a pal.

Did some online research.

Some MNing. Some FB.

Had brunch.

Out in car for errands.

Going to watch kids film with dinner soon.

I'm autistic and honestly don't know how so many of you do so much in a day. I get exhausted from just the basics!

BritishDesiGirl · 27/08/2022 19:39

Just me and the little one this evening, DH is working. Currently, my stomach is a bottomless pit ( oncoming AF) trying to find hi what else l can eat!!
