Saturday evening in your home

I love reading these kind of threads, I find it very comforting so thought I'd start one and ask what is going on in your homes on this Saturday evening?

I've been studying all day for my master dissertation defence and final oral exam whilst DH took DS (2years old) out to the shops and took him on the trams and buses (he's a public transport kind of toddler). We then had a nice dinner of sweet chilli chicken boats. We've just put DS down to sleep and DH has gone to get popcorn from the cinema next door to munch over a movie night! It's chilly autumn weather here right now which I love so it'll be comfortable in the living room watching the movie.

5 hours and counting since ringing for an ambulance for FIL. Since then we've driven to him, sorted him and his medication so he's comfortable, cleaned the house a bit, fed our kids and settled in for the long haul. Thank goodness he's OK-ish because the NHS is broken! Angry

I’ve been out on the sun lounger reading , this afternoon
DH and I have just had a Tesco pizza with some salad and home made coleslaw , I’m on my second glass of wine , the windows are all open , and DH is on the tap water as he has to collect DD ( grown up , and here for the long weekend ) as she’s gone out for a few drinks and a catch up with an old school friend

Vampirethriller · 27/08/2022 19:42

DD3 is asleep and I'm watching a zombie film with the dog, chamomile tea and a marmalade sandwich. Might do some knitting.

GoldenGorilla · 27/08/2022 19:42

Kids ate their spaghetti “lady in the tramp” style.

DH and I ate ours more conventionally.

Then did our obstacle course in the garden (we have stepping stones, balance beam, a slide, a tunnel, a swing, a climbing frame and a basketball hoop, so we call out instructions for the order to do them in/tell them to run backwards/to hop/to climb while quacking etc. neighbours probably think we’re deranged).

kids have had baths.

now watching new season of bluey while I brush their hair.

then bedtime. I am fully planning to go to sleep when the kids do :)

Manicpixidreamgirl · 27/08/2022 19:43

We had fajitas for dinner and am about to pour myself a large glass of wine now that the kids are in bed

EllaPaella · 27/08/2022 19:45

I had a lovely relaxing day.
Dog walk this morning. Sat in the garden and read a book for several hours (bliss) and it was lovely and warm. Went for a sea swim with the kids late afternoon and then came home and had a lovely hot shower. Made southern chicken, corn on the cob, green beans and potato wedges for tea.
DH has taken 11 year old out to a sports presentation so it's just me and 7 year old ds at home. He's watching beauty and the beast and I'm having a glass of red and browsing mumsnet and Majorca/Ibiza holidays on my phone 😁 Making the most of a day off as I have to finish writing an essay tomorrow.

I’m just getting my 13 month old to sleep. Then will spend the rest of evening probably running up and down getting her back to sleep. Praying every day for her to start sleeping longer stretches. I miss having an evening x

I'm just jealous you live next door to a cinema!

pastypirate · 27/08/2022 19:50

I'm at the caravan. We've just come back from a pool activity. I'm cooking pasta and we are watching Brooklyn 99. We are planning things for new house move in September. I drank a Rekorderlig earlier I feel drunk. It was £5.55 I was shocked. £2.20 in asda though!

50but17inside · 27/08/2022 19:52

Sitting on the veranda of a house in Kingswear watching the sun set over Dartmouth regatta. Large G&T in hand, looking forward to the fireworks. Such a special place

ThreeRingCircus · 27/08/2022 19:54

I went to Morrisons and did the food shop this morning, DDs were watching a film and DH put up some shelves that we've been meaning to put up for ages in the dining room.

We had a quiet few hours just lazing around and then had soup for lunch. I took DD1(5) to her cousin's birthday party and DH took DD2(3) out for a bike ride.

DDs have just gone to bed and DH and I are having a glass of wine in the living room and listening to music. Pie and mash cooking for dinner. We'll watch TV and chill out this evening and probably will be in bed for 10pm.

Slight cheat as we're not at home but we're currently on holiday in Stonehaven in Scotland. It's an absolutely lovely coastal fishing town with the most lovely harbour and we've absolutely loved it! I want to live here (though I suspect it's not always quite so warm and sunnySmile)

Today we visited the ruins of an ancient castle high on the cliffs by the sea and then had soup and a sarnie at a seafront cafe, went to the park and then had a gigantic ice cream from Aunty Betty's.

We then went to the beach and watched the boats coming in and out with a pint from the pub opposite the beach while the kids played in sea and sand. They made some new friends and just ran and laughed. Just had some locally caught mussels and then haddock and chips and after jet washing the kids in the holiday place I'm now in a hot bath with a cold beer and DH is watching out for dolphins outside as we're right on the sea line.

The DC are now happily catching up with their long last iPads in their beds that they last saw this morning before we left so all is quiet!

I've had an absolutely shitty few years and today is truly one of those that you have to pick up and put in your pocket and be thankful for.

I love these sorts of threads, the insight to and calm to peoples everyday life makes me feel all cosy especially when people use the word autumnal!

Next Saturday for me will be washing, work and beans on toast!!

This is lovely! You sound like you really needed and deserve this kind of day. I hope the rest of your holiday is just as wonderful!

Holidaydreamingagain · 27/08/2022 19:57

One teen at a friend, one teen st the gym and I’m watching TV. DP been here all day sprawled on the sofa watching every football match he could find interspersed with cricket and a great big dinner and has now gone home as he needs a good nights sleep after his taxing day.

ChocolateTea · 27/08/2022 19:57

DS16 has just gone for a walk, DS14 upstairs to finish watching a series on Netflix. DP is washing up after dinner, I’m sitting flicking through my phone listening to next doors kids play in the garden. No plans, pretty chilled, no tv or anything, we just kind of mooch of an evening

scotstarstrikestwo · 27/08/2022 20:00

@impatientwino aunty Betty's icecreams are the best icecreams!

stormelf · 27/08/2022 20:01

Just put the 4 and 2 year old to bed and I'm on the sofa cuddling the sleeping 8 month old while thinking about what to cook for dinner

LER83 · 27/08/2022 20:01

Dh has taken our 3 children and dog to his mums for the weekend so I've spent the day at a garden centre with my mum and sister I've cooked myself some salmon and veggies, and now gonna get a pina colada cocktail and watch dirty dancing on TV! Bliss! Ignoring the fact that tomorrow i really need to blitz the house ready for the return to school on Friday!

ijustcouldntthinkofausername · 27/08/2022 20:02

This afternoon we went to a beach themed event up our local park, then we came back and got ready and went for a lovely curry up our local Indian. I'm feeling rather full now I'm just sitting on the floor of DS (17mth) bedroom now waiting for him to nod off in the cot so I can go downstairs and carry on watching Stranger Things......
Yes I only ever started watching this last Sunday and I CANNOT stop!!! 🙈
Have a lovely evening everyone xxx

Simonjt · 27/08/2022 20:02

A quiet evening here tonight, my husband has gone out with his friends for his birthday, so me and my son watched the lion king. He and the baby are in bed, so I’m thinking of going for a bath and reading.

ImBoilingJackie · 27/08/2022 20:03

I'm websurfing, DC watching TV. DH is getting us some ice cream.
Had a few poor nights sleep so planning to turn in early this evening.

AquaTorfanaa · 27/08/2022 20:04

I've just cleaned the living room and bathroom so it smells fresh (Dettol), lit an apple scented candle so it smells autumnal and I'm finishing Outlander. DH is asleep as he's on a 2am shift and the DC's are on their computers in their room so it's just me and the dogs feeling all cosy after a lovely afternoon of seeing friends and buying some winter essentials at the designer outlet shopping village.

Matchofthedayrubbish · 27/08/2022 20:04

I’ve had a quietish day, dog walk this morning, bike ride this afternoon including a stop for coffee and cake in nearby village. We’ve just had prawn stir fry for dinner and are now slumped on the sofa drinking wine. Adult DD is home for the weekend as she is at a local hen do so will appear with some friends at some point as our house is their easiest sleep over point. They will be tipsy but funny so looking forward to catching up with them. We are watching the new Walter Presents series Hjerson. Good so far!

Tootsey11 · 27/08/2022 20:05

Dp and I have fallen out so we are sitting at either end of the sofa on our ipads in silence.

Surtsey · 27/08/2022 20:11

I am digesting a Chinese takeaway and watching Michael Portillo gallivanting about Europe on trains. DH has a gig, DS is at work and DD is down the pub in a nearby town with her friends. The cats are all cross at me for not allowing them access to sweet and sour chicken balls. The chaps will make their own way home in the early hours, the chapess will require a lift so I'll have to rouse myself and go to collect her in the car. As long as it's before midnight. I'm not daft.
