We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Wow @Skethylita !! That's amazing- I'm in awe!

@TightDiamondShoes kudos to you also. I wouldn't know where to start. I imagine having a child with such sensory issues forces you to learn these things, but nonetheless, I'm impressed!

I could do with at least learning to make alterations to clothing. I'm quite an odd shape to fit, so it would be a useful skill.
I have ADHD tendencies and find it hard to muster the patience to learn to do new things.

I have gardening to do today too, so we can compare backs tomorrow @OrangePumpkinLobelia!

@Aria999 pleased you're on the mend. That sounds frightening! Good luck with tax stuff.
I was self employed for years and always found it stressful. I am grateful for being PAYE these days.

I have some studying for my job to do today. Just nvq stuff so not arduous. Only my desk area has got a bit cluttered so that needs sorting first. This is how procrastination happens I think ( I need to get on with the studying though so I will just shove everything into a box)

Got to get going now. Big 👋 to everyone I haven't tagged and I look forward to hearing about all achievements, whether large or small!

I hope you all have a great day 💗

@Skethylita wow! So your plan is just to spend your days sat on the stairs looking out for rabbits peeking from behind those trees? Amazing stuff. Oh yo have a talent like that. I even go over the lines doing one colour on the walls!

the coat relining has been a massive success and looks amazing so I’m really pleased with that.

@Aria999 oooh a number cruncher! 😁 my sister is too and she loves nothing more than arguing with a jobsworth.

today I’m gonna sleep all day and party all night. 😉 biggest party the village has thrown since pre-covid and it’s going to be messy. 70mph winds and torrential rain too so there’s no point doing make-up unless @Skethylita can do me something guaranteed not to run. 😉 I’ll probably be done by 9pm…

TightDiamondShoes · 30/09/2022 06:53

@Solosunrise ugh. I think I’m going back to self-employment. There’s clearly been a fuck up with my wages and I’ve been paid £200. 🙄 I’ve been signed off for another month too. At least when you sell your own stuff you’ve got a rough idea of how much you’ve made.

TightDiamondShoes · 30/09/2022 07:00

Oh and @OrangePumpkinLobelia drinking on the train sounds wonderfully decadent. I’m picturing some orient express style scenario - not a British commuter train.

Peridot1 · 30/09/2022 08:22

Morning all.

Well done on the coat lining @TightDiamondShoes. I wouldn’t know where to begin. I have a small repair to do on the seam of a blouse and it and the sewing kit have been staring at me from the other end of the sofa for weeks now.

a few things achieved yesterday here. Had half an hour before lunch yesterday so decided to sort the shoe cupboard in the hall. All my shoes. Who need three pairs of black trainers? Me apparently! So have washed a pair ready to go to charity plus another pair. They are lightly used! Swapped out all summer shoes for winter ones.

After lunch I tackled the coats. Good sort out. Washed my heavy dog walking coat. It’s too big but will be fine for this year. Two nice coats I bought last year are now way too big so they will be going to charity. Managed to buy one of them again in the sale section of the website I bought the original one from. They had one left and it’s in a bit of an aspirational size but hope to be in it by Christmas.

Today’s task is to get rid of all the charity stuff which is still in the car. I was supposed to do it yesterday but procrasination won. Also change DS’s bed and make up bed in spare room as a friend of his may be coming to stay next week.

have a good day everyone.

RunningKatie · 30/09/2022 09:19

Wow @Peridot1 - that's a lot of achieving on that list!
I pulled all the summer shoes out of the shoe rack, we need to do walking boot and welly trying on in advance of half term. It's never a fun task.
I've written myself a weekend list, DH is out tonight so I shall start the weekend with a glass of wine, cheesey film and the ironing pile.

Peridot1 · 30/09/2022 11:32

I have to say I am pretty chuffed with what I’m getting done @RunningKatie! Still lots to do though.

I have a large ironing pile too. A cheesy film and the ironing is on my list as well. I managed to cut the pile down during the week by taking out my summer stuff and packing it away! Cheating a bit!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 30/09/2022 12:50

@Skethylita that really is lovely. So evocative and has a fairytale enchanting feel. I wish with all my little heart i was creative and talented!

I have an ironing pile as well. I do love a bit of ironing in front of a film.

Sadly the train was indeed a British commuter train @TightDiamondShoes but I love the orient express idea! I used to have a Very Long Commute a few years back and two of my fellow commuters would share a cheese, salami and olive grazing platter and a bottle of red each night on their way home and I always very much admired that! (We were all on the train circa 6 pm and off again circa 8 pm so definitely covered dinner time). I never quite got my act into gear though to copy that and usually made do with a mini bottle and an M&S cheese sandwich Grin

I am glad you have been signed off for a bit longer @TightDiamondShoes also. I hope things work out quickly with work. Thanks

And have fun at the party!

I have not yet quite got to the garden today @Solosunrise ! I got distracted by a Macmillan coffee morning. I might tie up a climbing rose though to cover my daily project tick list though!!

@Aria999 I did laugh when you said you are an accountant yet skim the tax forms. I'm a lawyer and am slightly notorious at home for skimming over small print!! (hence why i discovered this week that our value flight at half term does not include any luggage at all). Grin

Waves to @Peridot1 and @RunningKatie and everyone else as well! I hope so much everyone has the most wonderful Friday and weekend.

Aria999 · 30/09/2022 13:42

Good list @Peridot1 !

I have one very old pair of black trainers and they are falling apart. I dare not buy a second pair till they actually do fall apart though, as otherwise the nearly dead pair will sit unworn on the shelf for the next 15 years. I am not great at throwing things away.

I reduced my ironing pile to zero many years ago by deciding life is too short for ironing. I Marie Kondo fold everything straight from the drier and it comes out of the drawer fairly wearable. DH wears casual heavy cotton shirts that can take a slightly crumpled look. Kids don't wear uniform. Very occasionally I iron something if it really seems to need it but I think I have done this maybe 3 times in 3 years. There may be people out there who look at us and think 'ha, she should iron more' but 🤷‍♀️

Peridot1 · 30/09/2022 15:05

Laughing at the accountants and lawyers skipping small print. DH is a retired accountant and when we were selling our last house he did his normal detailed read through of the estate agent’s contract. And discovered an error in it. And they had been using that printed version for about 7 years!

Solosunrise · 30/09/2022 15:07

I love this thread and all the people here! You make me smile with these little snapshots of your lives, and everyone's sense of humour.
It feels like our own little coffee house, sharing our highs and lows.

Am enjoying the skim reading professionals! That did amuse me 😂

With you on the ironing @Aria999 I rarely iron anything. I do the Mario Kondo folding too (more or less)

@Peridot1 thank you for the reminder: I really must sort out coats and shoes!

Aria999 · 30/09/2022 15:19

Lol @OrangePumpkinLobelia that is exactly the kind of thing that happens to me.

I once booked a hotel in the wrong city.

Aria999 · 30/09/2022 15:26

Today's project, tidy DS6 room.

He appears to be constitutionally incapable of doing this himself, and his best friend is coming round for the first time tomorrow.

Solosunrise · 01/10/2022 06:44

I woke up with a horribly achey back this morning and I didn't even do any gardening in the end. Don't know what that's all about!

Hope the party was fun @TightDiamondShoes! Windy and wet on the south coast too last night, but it's eased up and looks like it might be a nice day.

Today I plan to put away the clobber that got boxed up to clear my desk.

OP posts:
OrangePumpkinLobelia · 01/10/2022 07:00

Morning @Solosunrise I am so sorry to hear about your back. I hope it eases up today.

@Aria999 I am dying to know what hotel you booked and where you were supposed to book!

I also love the thread and very much feel among friends. Thanks

Today i am making a mandarin and vanilla cake (sounds exotic but it makes extensive use of a boxed cake mix and tinned mandarin segments - it works with peaches but not tried mandarin before) and also plan to go through one of our cupboard's in the sitting room as it is filled with junk. Minted lamb shanks for dinner courtesy the frozen section of Aldi. I have got into a grocery buying rut so yesterday decided (as a means to amuse myself) to make a point of choosing something we have never tried before when we go shopping. I am very easily pleased!

I hope everyone has a lovely day. There is a lovely dawn out there where we are!

Peridot1 · 01/10/2022 09:25

Agree I love the thread and the snapshots of everyone’s lives.

Hope your neck eases up @Solosunrise.

I don’t iron very much. It’s mainly shirts from DS and DH. I do need to teach DS how to iron. He is 21 and I never got round to it but he definitely needs to learn. DH doesn’t wear shirts very often these days thankfully. I do his as he does most of the cooking.

I ended up clearing out the fridge yesterday. It smelled like something had died in it. I still have two shelves to do so I’ll do that this afternoon. Cleared out a selection of jars of random stuff.

I did do my main task of getting rid of everything that was in the car.

Today I’m going shopping later. I have a shirt to return to Next so and need to pop into M&S.

Aria999 · 01/10/2022 12:11

@OrangePumpkinLobelia it was many years ago, before we got married I think. We went on holiday to Spain, flew into Malaga, and I was having trouble finding the hotel I booked for this first night.

Eventually I realized it was in Marbella.

They both begin with M right? Luckily we found something else at short notice...

TightDiamondShoes · 02/10/2022 06:45

I too love this thread and the snapshots - also I have found my people. Intelligent women who eschew ironing and do daft shit because small print is for LOSERS! 😂

I didn’t do the party in the end - well I left before it got into full swing. Complicated set-up, but basically the husband of my ex-friend was being honoured. You could cut the atmosphere with a knife, so I came home, grabbed a bottle of amaretto and toddled off to a friend’s house for coffee.

My kids had a grown-up point yesterday by getting the bus (2 hours!) in to town yesterday morning to stay with their dad. Bit of a milestone so I’m pleased with them. Apparently there were a couple of friends on the bus so it was a doddle.

but they left about 6 loads of washing and I couldn’t get it dried outside and I’m loathe to put the tumble dryer on - will just need to suck that up I think.

which leaves me looking at the Sheila maid which is still in its box. So today I shall try and figure out if that’s going to be possible for me or whether I need to PAY A MAN to STICK IT UP.

Skethylita · 02/10/2022 08:15

Oooh, thanks for all the feedback! I got a bit more done on the painting yesterday and now a little fox is curled up under one of the trees and slowly more flora is emerging. Now that I'm getting further to the front it's the detail painting - and I haven't even started on the mystical side on the other end yet, bar base colours.

I reduced my ironing pile to zero many years ago by deciding life is too short for ironing.
Same. All my clothes are line-dried straight out of the washing machine and then folded away; most are non-iron to start with. Shirts for the teen don't need ironing as they're wearing a blazer all the time anyway and since they practically live in hoodies there is, again, zero ironing.

@OrangePumpkinLobelia That cake sounds amazing! I make something similar as a baked cheesecake, is that what you do or is it more spongy?

@Solosunrise How's the neck today? We sometimes sleep in an awkward position, but if you have those microwaveable bean bags, they work wonders.

I worked 7-10.00am and 8pm-0.40am yesterday and made a decent dent in my to-do list. Almost all projects are done (and the ones that aren't are ones I had to remind my boss about, who had no clue they needed doing and he will get back to me with answers!) and today I get to write a bunch of references - joy!

All washing was done yesterday, the only day this week where no rain was predicted, and it was pleasant outside, so I managed to wash and dry 3 machines' worth in the end.

I wonder when to call it a day with gardening this year. The grass is still growing like crazy around here, but I don't know if I can really be arsed to get the hoe out again to work on the bastard crack weeds (which sound way more exciting than they are!)

petalpower · 02/10/2022 08:52

I fell off this thread quite a while ago but would like to come back on if that’s ok?
Had a very busy summer with lots of family events and then a 3 week trip away to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. Lots of jobs to get on with now. Today I’m going to finish sorting the greenhouse as the tomatoes have come to the end of their growing season. Also need to read and sign some solicitor paperwork about our wills, do all the post holiday ironing (whilst catching up on tv I missed during the trip) and have a big supermarket shop arriving too. I love the little window into other people’s lives too!

Peridot1 · 02/10/2022 08:57

Miserable Sunday morning here. Hate rainy mornings. Although at least I’m not running the marathon like a friend of mine! Roll on the sunshine later.

@Aria999 - that is something I would do!

@Skethylita - I think the grass grows until the temp drops to 4 degrees or something so a while yet. Hopefully. I have bulbs to put in in next couple of weeks and some trees to replace. They got damaged by deer. Love seeing them in the garden but don't enjoy the damage!

I didn’t finish the fridge yesterday as was shattered when I got back from my shopping trip. So that’s today’s job. And DH has suggested sorting the pantry cupboard.

Quite enough for a Sunday!

RunningKatie · 02/10/2022 11:47

We have glorious sunshine here this morning, I've just retrieved the suncream from the cupboard for dc2 - the football field beckons!
I've started the task of clearing through the dc's school books. There are masses lurking in the bottom of wardrobes, we've agreed there's no need to keep maths for starters. Only another 40 odd to go through! I don't know who thought this was a good idea. Next I'll start on the past 11 years of digital photos.
I'll sadly be ironing later, the non-iron school shirts always look like they've been dragged through a hedge and slept in.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 02/10/2022 12:56

Afternoon! @Skethylita my cakes are more spongy but I am secretly not convinced that the tinned mandarin will work. Just everyone got tired of my tinned peach version. Apples would work though. I am out of eggs though and too lazy to go get some so will actually bake it tomorrow. I have never made a cheesecake and love them so might give that a go this week!

quiet day here. DH is out with some friends for his hobby. DS1 has a bad cold and is tucked up on the sofa. DS2 is drawing anime and I am planning to put a film on and tidy in a desultory fashion.

I hope you can get the sheila maid up @TightDiamondShoes . I love ours. We never use our tumble dryer. (Not least because it broke back in 2017 and we never got around to fixing it.... maybe I ought to put that on my to do list! Grin )

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 02/10/2022 13:07

Aria999 · 01/10/2022 12:11

@OrangePumpkinLobelia it was many years ago, before we got married I think. We went on holiday to Spain, flew into Malaga, and I was having trouble finding the hotel I booked for this first night.

Eventually I realized it was in Marbella.

They both begin with M right? Luckily we found something else at short notice...

Oh I love this. It is exactly the sort of thing I would do! I am so glad you found somewhere though!

Skethylita · 02/10/2022 18:29

@OrangePumpkinLobelia Do try it, but it has to be a baked version! Mandarin works really well in that type of cake, in fact, I might now make some this week. You have inspired me!

School books are a pain @RunningKatie I don't want to be mean and throw them, so my kids hava dedicated drawer and if it's full they have to prioritise. Not too bad until they hit their GCSE and suddenly seem to need everything!

I've had a really productive day.

Painted a bit more on my mural, got bored, so did work, got bored of that, so went DIY shopping for bits I had on my list for this month, then off to more mural and wall painting. I now have painted hallway walls downstairs, on their 2nd coat in some parts - a really intense dark green, in tune with my attempt to replicate dark academia downstairs.

The boy now has some hangers screwed to his door (harder than it sounds as the bloody thing is hollow on the inside!), will work on a wall decoration for the hallway this evening while deciding what to watch - I hate the fact that Prime now seems to only have TV shows on for a month before they're being taken off.

Work-wise my boss must have got sick of the number of emails I sent this weekend, but part of it is just my manager job and the rest I need his budget permission for.

If I manage to wash up before bed and shower (I'm covered head to toe in paint) it will have been a perfect day.
