We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

It's the ghost of Christmas past here...
Happy Christmas Eve from Vancouver. 🧑‍🎄

Little Havoc has been fast asleep 2 hours. I've wrapped presents, made and drunk eggnog and eaten dessert. Didn't make gingerbread cake...yet. HOWEVER, I did make caramel sauce (technically butterscotch, I think) which was poured over vanilla ice cream atop choc chip banana bread. Very big yum! 😛
Also made cranberry coconut choco chip loaf.
Dinner was linguine with salmon, prawns and asparagus in cream. Dead easy: prawns from freezer and chopped up salmon left-over from last night. All into the pan while pasta cooked then poured whipping cream over and simmered a bit. 😛

I'm enjoying everyone's Christmas Eve amd Christmas morning posts!

@Peridot1 yes, a bit difficult with a 15-month old underfoot who loves being in the kitchen and putting all pots and pans on the floor for me. 🤦‍♀️

@SnowAndIceLobelia did your dh finish the wrapping? I've been watching another thread about a dh apparently struggling with the wrapping that had me lol

@BadShepherd I think you've set a record for presents opened early! 5:59 and you're done?!🙀

Time for bed, I think. Third year in a row not going to midnight mass. Haven't been able to find the pope's service on tv... will look tomorrow. OH... what's everyone's take on the new King's Christmas message???? I'm assuming there was one???
It'll be so strange not to have the Queen deliver her message. 😢
uh, oh... Havoc is awake and crying....night night. 😊

Peridot1 · 25/12/2022 08:01

Merry Christmas to you all.

sleep tight @Mumtobabyhavoc! King’s Message will be on later - will be very odd. Very hard for him too I would imagine.

I am the only one up here so far. About to unload the dishwasher and tidy the kitchen. And make more brownies as FAther Christmas (AKA DS) has eaten them all. It’s the only dessert he eats really. And it’s only a packet mix so not too hard.

Hope you all have a lovely day.

RunningKatie · 25/12/2022 14:34

Merry Christmas all!
We're in the post-lunch fog. The dc are pleased with their gifts, I have what could be described as an excessive amount of gin. I hope the M&S spiced plum gin liquer is ok as I've received 2 bottles of it!
I am ready for a nap now, I think the King is on at 3 so we were going to watch that.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/12/2022 19:55

Good morning and Merry Christmas all!
Eggnog bread-pudding and a gingerbread cake have been made. Care package of baking made up for a friend stopping by who is working today. Feeling like things are under control!!!! 🙌

How has everyone's day been so far?
@RunningKatie spiced plum gin???? I don't know if that's an abomination or brilliant.Do taste test and let us know!!! 🤔

@Peridot1 I love brownies!!! On my list to make for Boxing Day.

Havoc had 4 presents. One, a sled, was given early a few weeks ago when we had our first snow. He seems to be stuck on a stuffed elephant from Santa (aka grandma)that has a removable insert that you pop in the microwave then pop back into elephant so he's warm to cuddle. 💖Sweaters from mummy were ignored (no surprise). And last present abandoned unopened (v short attention span) as the excitement of a toy flashlight with all it colours and sounds led him astray...

Merry Christmas everyone. 💖
I'll look forward to your posts later.
A bit of a rest now before I begin meal prep.

ps caught the last half of the Vatican mass on a USA tv channel before bed and the King's address at 9am here on CBC. Tradition maintained!!!

Aria999 · 25/12/2022 21:21

Happy Christmas all. DD2 is in bed resisting sleep . DS1 is up late doing his Lego set.

Quite a nice day all in all. FIL and MIL are sadly diminished but it was nice to see them.

Eating mince pies and drinking wine, about to participate in a ridiculously complicated board game (on a team with DH so in practice I can probably just let him get on with it).

BadShepherd · 26/12/2022 06:43

@RunningKatie i can confirm the spiced plum goes down well with bitter lemon fevertree. 😁

All good this end although the dishwasher is taking a pounding.

glad all has gone well for all. I committed a mn crime and gave the kids cards against humanity. They laughed like drains for hours rather than walloping each other - so a massive success.

Peridot1 · 26/12/2022 07:51

Morning all

Hope you all had a lovely day yesterday and Santa was good to everyone

Nice day here although we were all in bed by 9! DS drank a bit too much champagne and fell asleep on the sofa.

we have friends coming this evening so it will be pretty busy again here tidying up from yesterday and prepping for later. I have already said I am doing nothing tomorrow.

RunningKatie · 26/12/2022 08:28

We got the card game Exploding Kittens this year, round one went well - dh lost so no-one cried!
I'm trying hard to relax and not just get on with my lists of jobs. The house is currently quiet as the dc are still in bed, and ddog has taken dh on a walk. Lovely!

SnowAndIceLobelia · 26/12/2022 10:29

Morning everyone!

Absolutely shattered here. yesterday wiped me out so I am not fully recovered from the cold / asthma attack I think. It was a pretty quiet day as well. I usually make roast gammon for Boxing day but we all agreed we were food-ed out so it is going in the freezer and we will have something very light today. We were also meant to go out to a charity auction but none of us are up to it. I am literally weak and shaky so am taking it easier (and MNetting like a boss).

But it was a good day. Today will be easy then tomorrow we have a tip run scheduled. The excitement!

Hpe everyone has a lovely day.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 26/12/2022 14:14

I did manage to write down a daily household plan though (in the spirit of trying to 'do something').

It looks a little like this;

Work days before work
make beds
empty bins
clean kitty litter trays
one load washing on
breakfasts and school run
kitchen work surfaces and sweep

lunchtime
one small project - 10-15 minutes
dried laundry away

after dinner
45 minutes tidy downstairs and upstairs, vacuum and mop kitchen floor (note to self- never ever have white tiles for the kitchen. I mean WTF!).

Friday (non-working days)
as above but dedicate a decent hour to a project - a larger one as required.

Tomorrow I have the tip run which I am looking forward to. I have some deceased box hedging that needs to be junked.

ChristmasCrackler · 26/12/2022 14:25

Hello! We made it ☺ We had way more fun than expected and working over Christmas has been a blast.
Sounds like you all had a good time too 🎉
I'm a bit chocolated out....
I'm loving how the mighty Lobelia is back on the lists already 😂

SnowAndIceLobelia · 26/12/2022 14:35

I'm better at making lists than following them though @ChristmasCrackler Grin

Glad you had a fabulous Christmas. Smile

petalpower · 26/12/2022 17:21

Festive greetings to all! Oh my word @SnowAndIceLobelia all the lists on Boxing Day! I’m a huge list maker but have had a couple of days off over Christmas (lists pre-written 😂).
Lovely Christmas here. My brother and sister in law are staying until tomorrow (arrived on Christmas Eve). This morning the three of us visited auntie in the care home then they both went on a trip to the coast with DS, DH and the dog. I’ve just had a call to say they’re still in the pub, DH has fallen over in the mud and now looks shocking, the dog is also covered in mud and they’ve got another pub to visit on the way home. I have broken into the NZ Sauvignon as I think I’ll be way behind them. Dinner is all prepped, the log burner is lit and I’m not intending on doing much else.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/12/2022 02:32

@SnowAndIceLobelia you are causing me to think about cleaning and organizing the bedroom for Havoc. I've been dragging my heels a bit...

will be making brownies later in the week - likely for new year's eve. The gingerbread turned out to be quite nice and I'm eating that with the butterscotch sauce until done (i should freeze some of the cake instead!)

ChristmasCrackler · 27/12/2022 07:17

Oh @petalpower I love the sound of your Christmas - particularly the bit about them all in the pub complete with dog while you put your feet up in front of the fire! I aspire to be like you! In my head i am warm and comforting and motherly but the reality is that I find Christmas utterly overwhelming so I search for strategies to keep it simple and outsource what I can pretty much everything! Fortunately DH and our children are absolute legends and kept me sane ❤

I spent some time by the sea yesterday. On my byself as my children used to say 💕 My mother would call it 'blowing the cobwebs away'. Tide was in and the wind was whipping up the waves and as always I found it ferocious and magnificent and soothing all at once.

I too feel a list coming on!

Loving all the descriptions of your family Christmases ☺

Peridot1 · 27/12/2022 07:24

Morning all

Happy Tip Run Day @SnowAndIceLobelia! We will need one of those next week I think. Also impressed with your list making on Boxing Day.

Glad everyone had a lovely Christmas. Hope DH wasn’t too muddy @petalpower!

My list for today is to tidy up after last night, do one load of laundry, do some of my jigsaw, read a couple of magazines, watch a movie, eat my body weight in mince pies, stollen and trifle. Make turkey and ham pie for dinner.

ChristmasCrackler · 27/12/2022 07:37

You've reminded me @Peridot1 - I too have a jigsaw! And I am eyeing up various leftover Christmas goodies with a view to breakfast 🤔
Turkey and ham pie sounds lovely!

Peridot1 · 27/12/2022 08:19

It is really good @ChristmasCrackler - it’s this one from BBC Good Food. Really easy and very tasty.

petalpower · 27/12/2022 08:32

We had turkey and ham pie last night! I do the Nigella one which I think is from her Feast book.
Today I’m going to have a bit of a fridge sort out and probably make some smug soup. My brother and sister in law go home today, DD is staying at her not boyfriend’s (I don’t understand young people and how it’s now talking to, dating, exclusive etc), we have no visitors tonight so it will be a re-set day. A bit of cleaning and tidying up and some tv catch up. The guest room will need the bed changing ready for the next set of guests too. I’m still in bed as DH has got up and taken the dog out for a walk. @Peridot1 yes my husband was very muddy, as was the dog. Both looked as though they’d been rolling in it. Understandable for a spaniel but less so a 53 year old man!

petalpower · 27/12/2022 08:38

I forgot to say that on Christmas Eve our main oven door (we’ve got a range type thing) decided to stop fastening shut so it was wedged closed with a crate of lager so we could cook dinner! My amazing brother then took the door apart on Christmas morning and did a temporary fix on the catch and then identified the part on eBay so I could order a new one.

BadShepherd · 27/12/2022 08:41

@petalpower the drunken escapades of your husband/dog really made me laugh! 😁

@ChristmasCrackler blowing the cobwebs away and some p&q is ideal!

Im going to fling some pea and ham into the slow cooker for smug soup but today we’re off out for a family quiz, lunch with friends and the bar. We may well end up like @petalpower’s dog!

Last night I did lots of yoga much to the bemusement of the dog as I’d not been able to move for a couple of days. The house is an utter state and last night I dreamt someone broke into the house and cleaned the bathroom! 😂 Wither sexy dreams about Josh Hartnett…

I could use some lists and have a new planner, but I’m loathe to assign a particular job to a particular day as I quickly become overwhelmed. So perhaps it’ll be more a record of things DONE.

ChristmasCrackler · 27/12/2022 09:35

Peridot1 · 27/12/2022 08:19

It is really good @ChristmasCrackler - it’s this one from BBC Good Food. Really easy and very tasty.

Thank you! That looks straightforward and tasty :)

ChristmasCrackler · 27/12/2022 09:38

@petalpower I'm old too. We used to 'go out' with people. I lived with exH for 6 months before we married and my mum was extremely unhappy about it!

ChristmasCrackler · 27/12/2022 09:40

Mum was very sure that I had not 'known him' right up until the double bed was brought in 😂

ChristmasCrackler · 27/12/2022 09:44

@BadShepherd what you will have, right there, is a 'Ta-Da list'!
