Daily Project - Round Two!

We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Pony photos. sigh. I actually dreamed last night I had started riding up again. It was a good dream. I am putting this down to lovely drugs and lovely photos of pony noses.

Hope everyone with lurgies are much better today and that you are able to see your ILs @Aria999

Thanks @RunningKatie for your dad's funeral.

Hi to everyone. Much better here. Quiet day yesterday and I investigated the combined joys of a small glass of sherry with controlled medication and the result was quite satisfactory, although no singing (as far as I can recall). Today i need to get back to the hospital pharmacy with another prescription because they did not have enough supply and told me to come back. Thankfully the hospital is only 10 minutes drive away. Then I am hoping to take the Dcs out for lunch and finish the rest of the food shopping. DH is out participating in his manly MN hobby.

The daily project though will to be once again clear the dining room as somehow it was cleared and made beautiful and then it got itself uncleared again.

Then I need to make a room by room list of various bits of furniture I want to sell and arrange a date with our local auction house to come and take it away. If I get both those things done today I will be ecstatic.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/12/2022 09:28

@BadShepherd nah. she was a sweetheart. 😍Such good memories having had horses, that's for sure.

RunningKatie · 23/12/2022 11:11

Morning all - I have mopped the house ready for Christmas. And reached peak parenting, managed to get a bottle of the overpriced and overhyped Prime for ds.
I may go back to bed now as the day cannot get any better!

Peridot1 · 23/12/2022 12:57

@SnowAndIceLobelia - we cross posted yesterday and I missed you had ended up in A&E. Hope you are ok now.

Healing healthy vibes to all with the lurgy. I’m doing fine - fingers crossed - seemed to escape with a mild dose. DH is still suffering.

I hope your Dad’s funeral went well @RunningKatie. Well done on the Prime. I saw it mentioned in another thread having never heard of it. It seems a bit bonkers!

I ended up doing the stuffing yesterday but not the cake. Remembered I had quite a few things to take back to M&S and Next so did a mad dash late afternoon and did that. Very pleased to have that done.

This morning I’ve been to Waitrose to pick up the turkey and do the final shop. Back home for a magic coffee and an almond croissant and then did a mad dash to the farm shop for some beef for Boxing Day which was a last minute menu change.

This afternoon it’s tidying, doing the cake, brushing the ever-shedding dog and vacuuming. The kitchen resembles a bomb site too for some reason so need to tidy that.

have a good day all.

petalpower · 23/12/2022 19:25

Hope everyone is ok and getting on top of Christmas preparations. Particularly those with the dreaded lurgy.
I’ve prepared the cranberry sauce and stuffing roll and made the chocolate Yule log which is a slightly odd shape and has provoked hilarity from DD! The turkey has arrived and the massive Sainsbury’s shop is in the fridge Tetris style. DS is now here and going out to M and S later for his last minute Christmas dash so can pick up the missing bits and pieces. Last night of no visitors here so enjoying a few glasses of wine in front of the log burner with some low brow tv. Heaven!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/12/2022 20:57

Survived another snowstorm here. Temp has come up to 0 celsius from -11c. Forecast is now for rain and 8c for the weekend and has already started. I managed to get all shopping done (yeah!) and am going to stop procrastinating (!!!) and get into the kitchen to do some baking. Plan is to make a gingerbread cake and some caramel sauce; ginger molasses cookies; and peppermint brownies. Also going to make eggnog (which I LOVE) so I can enjoy an eggnog latte. 😛

petalpower · 23/12/2022 21:21

Where are you vaguely @Mumtobabyhavoc with temperatures like that?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/12/2022 21:35

@petalpower Vancouver, Canada 😊

Peridot1 · 23/12/2022 21:37

I was wondering the same @petalpower. We didn’t get temperatures that low too in Eastern Europe.

Sounds like you did lots today. I keep saying I’ll make a Yule log but always forget. We are lucky and have an extra fridge in the garage but that was a bit like Tetris too earlier!

Can I have your address please @Mumtobabyhavoc? I’ll be over shortly! Your baking plans sound delicious. And I’ve always wanted to try eggnog! Xmas Grin

Lots done here today. Except brushing the dog who spent the afternoon snoring in her basket in the study with DH who was also snoring. And the cake wasn’t done either. Kitchen was tidied including a pile of papers that have been there for weeks. Changed DS’s bed and washed bedding. Soaked ham which involved fridge jenga and going out in pouring rain. Made a curry for dinner. Made carbonara for DS. Vacuumed. Put a basket of washing away and washed and hung another load. Loaded and unloaded the dishwasher twice.

Tomorrow:

Cake!
make red cabbage
change my bed
brush dog
wrap presents
sort out bits for DS’s stocking
phone MIL
decide table stuff for Christmas dinner

SnowAndIceLobelia · 23/12/2022 22:01

Evening all!!

Thanks @Peridot1 I am feeling alot better. Just tired and very very drained. The cold part of the lurgy seems to have gone thankfully but I am still having some mild asthma symptoms. I spent the morning doing some chores (non-Christmas related) which wiped me out. DH's outing hobby was cancelled due to uncooperative weather and so he took us to lunch which was lovely. We shared mushroom pizzas and fig and spinach salad.

I was just sitting back on the sofa after mopping the kitchen floor feeling smug when I realised that actually i had totally forgotten that I need to pick up the meat from the butcher tomorrow. I have sent myself reminders everywhere.

Tomorrow:
-pick up meat
-pick up smoked salmon and boursin (I have not been able to find either yet!)
-Make bread sauce
-buy oranges!! (I am doing a roast chicken and will do an orange, cinnamon and honey glaze)
-Watch 'Nativity' film with family
-Make dining room table a Christmas extravaganza

Oh! i forgot about crackers!

I echo the desire to try eggnog - and eggnog in Canda sounds awesome!!

BadShepherd · 24/12/2022 06:36

Ah, famously mild Vancouver. I once ran into a woman in Alberta in January. Her husband had died in the summer and she’d decided to “travel Canada” - but nobody had ever told her Canada is “cold” in the winter (the mind boggles…). She was dressed for a Macclesfield nightclub resplendent in mini-skirts and stillies (I kid you not!) and didn’t want to “waste” any money on winter clothes. 😲😲😲😂

Today the eating of the cheese will commence and I’m in two minds about this evening. My ex-BFF is organising something in the village (all invited) and the children will want to go - however she’s been 99% pure cnut to me so I’d rather watch die hard with a box of biscuits and the Xmas gin.

Yesterday I took a little sort of my bedroom and formulated a wee plan or two. Did not however find the missing present which is of course the one child 2 keeps banging on about. 🙄

ChristmasCrackler · 24/12/2022 06:48

Good morning! Am enjoying reading about everyone's festive cooking. Like @BadShepherd could smell the pony, I can smell all your kitchens from beneath my heated throw and by my gently twinkling Christmas tree! And it's lovely ☺
@SnowAndIceLobelia my DH is not doing his Outing Hobby later so we can prepare together for family descending this evening. Instead he's doing a double shift of the hobby on boxing day, but as I shall be working (and will have had enough of festivities by then) that is completely fine by me!
I am hoping those with the lurgy are through the worst and that nobody else falls by the wayside!
I hope you all have a lovely day today and get all the things done wot need doing still. And i very much hope you can all carve out some peaceful moments for yourselves 💕

SnowAndIceLobelia · 24/12/2022 07:18

Morning!

I have woken up with an itching desire to re-paint a bedroom.

Like, today. Hmm

I have enough to be going on with so have satisfied myself with booking two trips to the tip for next week and have scheduled in bedroom painting for next week as well. (It's more touch ups than a proper paint though tbf).

i did not call the auction house yesterday so have marked it in my diary to do on the 27th (assuming they are open).

Coffee in bed before I go and collect the meat from the butchers.

Withing you all a safe and happy Christmas!!

SnowAndIceLobelia · 24/12/2022 07:23

@ChristmasCrackler Dh is a little vague on the details of when he is next doing his outing hobby. There was a mutter about Boxing day but it might be Monday now. [glares in general direction of peacefully oblivious DH]

RunningKatie · 24/12/2022 13:25

I've just eaten 2 little packs of parma violets, leftovers from halloween and here we are on Christmas Eve.
DH and dc2 have gone delivering gifts, I've stayed home with poorly dc1. So have hoovered, tidied, wrapped etc.
I've now realised we are out of paper and tags. This has never happened! So, DH needs to get his festive self home so he can nip out for some. Otherwise everything will be in pink unicorn paper and marker pen labelled. We are definitely not an instagrammable household!

Aria999 · 24/12/2022 16:06

@SnowAndIceLobelia I also missed the bit about a&e! Nasty! Hope you are ok!?

A specific bedroom, or just any bedroom 😜?

Aria999 · 24/12/2022 16:14

Hi @Mumtobabyhavoc normally we are east coast USA, it feels like a good time to be in the uk!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/12/2022 17:54

Happy Christmas Eve to everyone here. It's just after 9:30am and i've been up since 6:30 with baby Havoc. Didn't get to baking yesterday as lack of sleep previous night caught up to me. Managed a good sleep last night though! Have just put 2nd load of laundry in and have a choc chip banana bread cooling. Will make a cranberry, coconut, choc chip loaf next. Cookies, egg nog to follow.
Have ham & lamb chops in fridge and will portion both and put some in freezer for another day; marinade lamb for tomorrow and likely cut up pineapple for ham. Did toast bread cubes in oven last night so that's ready for the dressing to go with chicken and gravy. Left over salmon from last night to go with linguine for tonight's supper. Actually, I think I'll do the chops tonight, too... 🤔

@Aria999 such cold weather sweeping through the country here, although has warmed up to 6c here with rain and no longer feels cold. Cold, extreme cold, and snow etc have caused a lot of snarls for air travel, YVR was at a standstill, for example, and news is showing similar back east as well as in the States. Where are you?

If anyone wants I'll post my eggnog recipe (Alton Brown's, actually). I'd love to hear from new eggnog makers and tasters! 😛 It's dead simple to make.

Aria999 · 24/12/2022 18:36

@Mumtobabyhavoc we live in Pittsburgh which I think is missing the worst of it but still very cold.

Currently near London in the uk!

Aria999 · 24/12/2022 18:37

P.s. your baking sounds amazing! I couldn't bake all that, I would be in danger of eating it all 🤣

petalpower · 24/12/2022 21:16

Happy Christmas to all! Have a lovely time everyone.

Peridot1 · 24/12/2022 22:17

Merry Christmas to all of you lovely people.

your baking sounds fab @Mumtobabyhavoc - especially juggling a little one.

We are sorted. Ended up doing a mad dash out for another ham this afternoon as the one I bought shrunk a LOT when cooked. And seemed to shrink more each time I looked at it! And it’s all about the leftovers for me so I needed another one. Both now cooked. Red cabbage for Boxing Day done. Brownies for DS done and almost gone so may need more tomorrow. Dog brushed. Cake not iced. My bed changed. More presents wrapped. Traditional lasagna and garlic bread for dinner and then a movie.

All tucked up in bed now.

wishing all of you a wonderful Christmas. You are SUCH a lovely bunch!

ChristmasCrackler · 25/12/2022 05:46

Good morning and Merry Christmas everybody! I hope you all have a lovely day 🤶 🎄 🎉 🥂

BadShepherd · 25/12/2022 05:59

Merry Christmas everyone! 🥃 All our presents have been opened 😁 - children seem happy. I’m currently being treated to a monologue about fishing hooks and weights.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 25/12/2022 06:51

Merry Christmas!!!

Dcs are tucked up in bed eating stocking chocolate.

DH is... 'I still have a bit of wrapping to do..'

I am drinking coffee and watching Swan lake and have just unattached a cat from the Christmas tree.
