We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Thank you petal all the things piling on are just life really - only have to read this small corner of MN to know that Flowers

I did sleep extremely well and woke just before the alarm. And I got wordle in 3 so i have started well!

BrewCake for everyone

BadShepherd · 21/12/2022 06:21

@ChristmasCrackler aah… the state of the NHS eh? Doctor said not to worry as he had a quiet day, understood the buses (and landslide cutting off the trunk road) and he’s ready for me whenever I get there! So with any luck I’ll be done and dusted by 11, short hobble down the hill to Tesco for mince pies and bus home. There’s only one bus a day and I was worried about him fitting me in. Ha! Seems no other lunatics want needles in their spine for Xmas?

tea? Tea? 🤮

I’m being dim - what’s “jam in jam sandwich”?

Hope everyone had a lovely day, wraps, presents, keeps the nice off the cheese and had a gin reward. Home straight ladies - our precious families are invading our quiet for a fortnight.

Peridot1 · 21/12/2022 08:07

Morning all.

This post is brought to you by Day Nurse. My moaning about DH came back to bite me and I started with the lurgy yesterday. Ended up sleeping for an hour on the sofa in the afternoon and I’m going through tissues like you wouldn’t believe. I think I’ll be able to audition for the part of Rudolph soon.

I’m not a big coffee drinker either. I drink mainly tea but have a coffee sometimes after I come back from walking the dog. Can’t do lattes @Mumtobabyhavoc - milky coffee makes me queasy but yours sounds pretty good.

A lumbar puncture does not sound like a fun way to spend a morning @BadShepherd especially with a bus trip afterwards. Hope it goes ok. Your lunch out sounded lovely.

glad your MRI results were ok @petalpower.

hope you are ok @ChristmasCrackler. Things do tend to pile up sometimes.

Not sure what I will achieve today. Cleaners are in later so I need to do a tidy round before that but the house is not too bad so that shouldn’t take long. I want to make the stuffing for Christmas and marzipan the cake. And wrap some presents.

Have a good day all.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 21/12/2022 08:22

Lurgy here as well.

Feeling very grim and it is playing havoc with my asthma. Feel sure that if it does the rounds someone will be down for Christmas.

Hope everyone has a good day and medical issues are all fine and go smoothly.

petalpower · 21/12/2022 15:08

Oh no@SnowAndIceLobelia and @Peridot1 , hope you have not got the really rotten cold viral thing that’s doing the rounds. I’m still not clear after nearly two weeks. The nose blowing is something else!
Hope your travels were uneventful @BadShepherd and your procedure went ok. The jam in the sandwich is a reference (I presume!) to our/my age group being called the sandwich generation. You’re sandwiched between the needs of elderly parents and relatives but still needed by your children (even though they might not be young any longer) and are pulled in both directions. You’re the jam in the sandwich effectively.
Hows the hair looking @Aria999 ? Has it settled down a bit?
Today I’ve frozen some of the meat from the butchers including the pigs in blankets that I made this morning, visited auntie at the care home as there was a singer/entertainer, emptied and cleaned the kitchen corner cupboard and started the pre-Christmas house clean. Hope everyone has had a good day!

ChristmasCrackler · 22/12/2022 06:22

Morning all! Hope the lumbar puncture went smoothly @BadShepherd 💐
Yes the jam sandwich as @petalpower described it is exactly what I meant ☺
Sympathies to those down with the lurgy....might I recommend balsam tissues to the very snotty @Peridot1 ? Take care of yourselves all (@SnowAndIceLobelia especially with your asthma!)
Hope all are in good spirits by the time of the festivities BrewCake

I believe the winter solstice thing at stonehenge are being live-streamed on the British Heritage site if anyone wants to watch. I think shortest day was yesterday but something to do with the solstice timings means the celebration is today. I will be at work when the sun rises but will probably see it out of somebody's window :)

I too need to do a pre Christmas tidy up today. And i will probably clean the fridge. Everything else is ok and so I've volunteered to assist with horses later on as only working a short day. I need mud, I need fresh air, and I need to kiss a pony nose! And only then shall I be ready for Christmas 😂

BadShepherd · 22/12/2022 08:41

Good morning jammies! (Thank you @petalpower !)

Today is always a happy day in the north because the days will stretch out until 24hrs daylight which I love.

yesterday was beyond grim - it was the consultant I’ve had a run-in with before nearly 10 years ago… It didn’t go well and I nearly passed out and had to lie down - at which point he informed me it had failed for a second time. Ugh. Successful eventually but I’m tender and have no plans to go out today.

This morning I’ve set up the coffee machine and had my first cup. Delicious but … am thinking I’m probably a lunatic for spending so much on a bloody machine.

@Aria999 - will we get hair pics?

@SnowAndIceLobelia and @Peridot1 i hope you’re both feeling better soon - and no apologies required for a medicinal hour’s nap on the couch!

@ChristmasCrackler please kiss some pony noses for me! 😘

Today I’m going to try and stop the kids eating the Xmas food and find that mystery present I’ve lost.

Peridot1 · 22/12/2022 09:07

Morning all.

Sorry you have it too @SnowAndIceLobelia . I’m slightly asthmatic too but so far so good here. Hope you start to feel better.

I’m doing ok thanks @petalpower. Hope DH doesn’t still have it in two weeks or I’ll be driven mad! Grin

I’m on my second box of balm tissues @ChristmasCrackler! Enjoy your pony time!

Very odd doing the solstice celebration today. It was definitely yesterday at Newgrange in Ireland. Hmm. Time difference maybe? Grin. Or is it usually the 22nd?

I’m not feeling too bad. Seem to basically just have a cold. DH on the other hand seems to be suffering more. Napping in the afternoon and going to bed early. Still able to eat and drink though. I am taking Cold meds and knocking back Sambucol from the bottle.

My quick tidy round before the cleaners took longer than expected yesterday as DS cleared out the rubbish from his room. So I had a big box of rubbish to deal with. And then more to remove that he’d missed! Managed to get the recycling stuff down the drive just as the recycling truck arrive. DH stood looking at them from the house wondering if he’d make it so I just grabbed the box and went.

Didn’t make stuffing or marzipan the cake so need to do that today. I did wrap most of DS’s presents.

Am heading out on my shopping trip later. And then it’s the stuffing and cake and clearing out the fridge.

have a great day all.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 22/12/2022 09:15

Oh @BadShepherd I am so so sorry that the lumbar puncture was so awful. Thanks Not what you need at all and so painful. I hope so much that you can rest today and that things go smoothly and well.

I think I for sure have the awful cold. I had an asthma attack last night and only got out of A&E about 3 hours ago. They were wonderful and gave me lots of very lovely drugs and my lungs have been well and truly overhauled and I am feeling tired but alot better. They swabbed me for flu though and it was not that so this is a right shocker of a cold. I know a friend of mine was over a week in bed with it.

I think I would love 24 hour daylight, @BadShepherd Where I am it is dark at 10 and light around 3.30 and I LOVE that. some years ago we went to lapland and it was dawn at noon-ish and dusk at 2-ish and I loved that too. Although I imagine it gets a bit draining if you live there!

quiet day for me. Finish present wrapping. Finally work out a christmas eve starter for vegetarian DH (currently thinking of something with boursin, tomatos and walnuts. Just I usually do that so wanted to do something slightly different this year. This year I ordered oysters for me from the fishmonger. It always seems just silly and indulgent to order just for me but this year I thought 'why on earth NOT??!!'

Wishing evryone a lovely lovely day! (And the odd pony muzzle kiss would not go astray either!)

Peridot1 · 22/12/2022 09:16

Cross posted with you @BadShepherd. Sorry it was awful. But your coffee machine sounds excellent and well deserved.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 22/12/2022 09:17

Oh hope you and your DH are soon better @Peridot1 Thanks

BadShepherd · 22/12/2022 09:33

@SnowAndIceLobelia oh no - A&E? 😔 I hope you got ALL th drugs and get to rest properly today.

For your husband - do you remember “du pain, du vin, du Boursin”? 😂

we’ve got a new oyster shed here and I want to support them but ugh. Worse than tea!

I love the daylight, it’s so energising and people seem to be on the go 24/7 - you’ll see people out riding or walking dogs at 3am. I find the winters hard - when the sun fucks off at 2:30 I have a tendency to “down tools”.

@Peridot1 well done for getting the recycling out. They only come for our paper once a month and the last 2 months they’ve come 4-6 hours earlier than normal hence nobody has caught them. I’m never going to catch up and the shed is full - I’m going to have to burn the bastarding stuff!

Aria999 · 22/12/2022 09:51

Hi all. I have the lurgy too!

I can't do pictures @BadShepherd as the site will not let me upload recent photos at the moment. Known problem apparently but no known fix in sight!

We are in the uk now so had a broken night with pounding headache and jet lagged kids. Kind of limping through breakfast at the moment!

Off to find coffee and more breakfast. And my glasses.

ChristmasCrackler · 22/12/2022 10:27

Illicit posting from work here! I will post pony nose pictures later for medicinal purposes xx

SpiritOfEdna · 22/12/2022 12:06

Morning Flowers to everyone who needs them.

I am still working, but am seeing meetings being cancelled all over so I can get on with other stuff while keeping an eye on email...

For today

  • finish decorating the tree(s) - I am wafting between living room and kitchen and taking my time on placement of baubles (!!!!)
  • I got paid today so am paying bills before I splurge on some fancy new pyjamas.
  • I need to get the dog walked in a bit but it's RAINING but we will be walking through the woods so it'll be sheltered (trying to persuade myself to get a move on).

Right - will go and put boots on and get the dog walked.

Have a good day everyone

ChristmasCrackler · 22/12/2022 15:58

I have a pony snout:

Daily Project - Round Two!
petalpower · 22/12/2022 16:04

Did you kiss it @ChristmasCrackler ?

RunningKatie · 22/12/2022 16:06

Awwww pony!
I am lurgified too, as is ds and I suspect dd is coming down with it too.
I've finished work and we've had my dads funeral so now I can start to relax. Or tidy the house, wrap the gifts etc. Etc. DH has said he will food shop tonight. The man is an absolute legend.

ChristmasCrackler · 22/12/2022 16:07

petalpower · 22/12/2022 16:04

Did you kiss it @ChristmasCrackler ?

Of course! I've put her here for you all to kiss too 😍

BadShepherd · 22/12/2022 16:09

I can smell her! You’ve cracked Willy Wonka’s magic TV!

petalpower · 22/12/2022 16:21

I’m not really a horse/pony person and would rather kiss some lovely spaniel ears but the rest of you go ahead! 😂
I hope the funeral all went ok @RunningKatie . Sorry to hear you’ve got the lurgy too. What a superstar your husband sounds.
We need to see pictures of the fancy new pyjamas @SpiritOfEdna !
How long are you in the uk for @Aria999 ? Hope you are able to put your feet up and don’t have to do too much.
Today I’ve been to the greengrocers to pickup the big order (Sainsbury’s delivery arrives tomorrow morning) and have spent the rest of the day doing very tedious cleaning.
Hope all the ill people are feeling better and you’ve got over your horrible hospital appointment @BadShepherd .

Aria999 · 22/12/2022 16:26

We are traveling back on New Year's Day @petalpower but we have a few additional stops to make.

We are going to Scotland on 27th to see my dad and we may be spending a couple nights with MIL and FIL but it is a bit lurgy dependent as FIL is sheltering due to chemo.

This afternoon DH and DS have gone to see them and DD and I and our germs have remained at BIL's house.

Hugs @RunningKatie hope you are doing ok.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/12/2022 17:45

@ChristmasCrackler thanks for the pony pic!😍
We had horses when I was a child but my first was a shetland pony.

ChristmasCrackler · 22/12/2022 19:40

Hope the funeral went ok @RunningKatie 💐

Spaniel ears are equally lovely @petalpower 💕 Pleased my magical powers worked @BadShepherd
So sorry about asthma and hospital trips and lurgies of all varieties. Also headaches and jet lag and rain.
Hurrah for the decent blokes who pull their weight. And for fancy pyjamas and anything else I've missed!
Onwards and upwards, all!

BadShepherd · 23/12/2022 07:33

@Mumtobabyhavoc I’m so sorry your first experiences were with a Shitland - but it will have taught you well - and never to turn your back on the enemy! 😂

Today I’m going to pick up the meat and replace the crackers which were stolen eaten when I was away for the day. Then I’m going to drink gin until I start singing to the dog.

I still haven’t found the lost present - which in a way is good because it means the recipient has at least one surprise. He’s not buying my assertion that the fishing rod is in fact a curtain rail.

@RunningKatie im so sorry you’ve had to deal with that at this time of year.

@SpiritOfEdna Tell us about the pyjamas! I LOVE pyjamas and although I’ve spent £££ on fabric to make many pairs of my own (another fallen project) - I still get sucked in…
