Daily Project - Round Two!

Solosunrise · 22/08/2022 13:31

We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Ooh - pic of my stag @SnowAndIceLobelia! I love him. DH bought him for me for Xmas one year.

Daily Project - Round Two!
SnowAndIceLobelia · 18/12/2022 10:36

Oh he is lovely! And candle holders as well! he would be lovely on a table!!

Also loving the paint colour on your cupboards. May i ask what it is?

Peridot1 · 18/12/2022 11:58

I think it’s Cornforth White by Farrow and Ball. It was here when we moved in.

RunningKatie · 18/12/2022 21:49

Oh my that is lovely @Peridot1
Today has been a day of 2 halves. First was a lovely festive doggy walk with 30 ddogs. All very jolly although a bit too exciting with lots of ice on the paths.
Then this afternoon we went to a local NT illumination trail, booked in for 4.30. Got a text at 4.28 whilst we were in the car park cancelling as it was too dangerous. I must admit I nearly cried.
The dc are pooped already bless them so it's an early night for them, I've said they need lots of rest and relaxation this holiday - we all do!

ChristmasCrackler · 19/12/2022 06:20

Morning lovely people! I'm pleased to hear that you all made it to the end of term, what with the various challenges. Glad small hoover survived the bump to his head. Child rearing needs to come with all the alcohol really, not just a manual, baby app/MN

Pleased and proud to present wind and rain down here in the south. Hoping it washed the ice away overnight.

Those stags are both beautiful! I'm feeling old looking at that pretty hair @Aria999 All I can think of is how you would get it in your face all the time. But it does look lovely. Mine is grey and various lengths of short, depending on when I last had it cut. I aspire to look like Jamie Lee Curtis.....ain't gonna happen but a woman can dream!

Enjoying your seasonal name changes @SnowAndIceLobelia and will have to think of a new one of my own come next week!

No time to tag everyone but as always I'm enjoying reading what you're all up to. Frequently inspired as well!

I haven't thought of a small project for today yet - i think it may involve putting bits in loft though. Will report back later for accountability.

Have a great day everyone whatever you are doing xx

BadShepherd · 19/12/2022 08:17

I haz NC but I’m in the far white north and have an accident-prone child.

I want a reindeer candle holder now!

Junkie coffee seemed to work well and I had a productive weekend for once and got far more achieved than I usually would including making use of the new handheld hoover to get into all the corners the robot can’t do.

Although it could possibly be the meds I was given the other week are kicking in a bit.

Both children announced at 7am this morning that they needed suits suitable for a casino. For today. I re-iterated that ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT is NOT the time to drop such requests.

There looks to be a few days break in the weather this week so I’m going to make a dash for town before our white Xmas.

Wrapped half the presents yesterday to absolutely zero interest from the kids - I somewhat suspect they’d already found and rifled through this batch.

I’ve got an electric shaver for eldest who’s starting to look a bit fuzzy - but also got shaving gel. But now I’m thinking you don’t use gel with an electric razor? 🤷‍♀️

SnowAndIceLobelia · 19/12/2022 08:21

Loving the namechange. Xmas Smile

Peridot1 · 19/12/2022 08:52

Morning all

That is such a shame about the cancellation @RunningKatie. Id have been really disappointed too.

Glad the junkie coffee or the meds made a difference @BadShepherd - I’ve been calling mine magic coffee but I think I prefer junkie coffee! And no you don’t need shaving gel with an electric razor.

i had a fairly easy day yesterday. Lots of washing up AKA loading and reloading the dishwasher and putting away. Wrapped a few presents. Finished my book. If anyone is looking for a lovely comforting seasonal book to read I can recommend Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher. Two of my sisters have just finished it and loved it. One described it as like a hug in a book. I’ve just read it for the fourth time. Third sister who only ever reads books about serial killers has also just downloaded it so not sure what she will think of it!

I am trying to decide whether to go shopping this morning or wait until tomorrow. It’s a bit windy and wet but due to stop raining at least. I have more wrapping to do and I want to strip the bed in the main spare bedroom. Also need to pack up a pile of books for charity drop off from that room. And do the normal washing vacuuming etc.

have a good day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 19/12/2022 08:55

Nice name changes :-)

Just surfacing after a hectic weekend with some surprise visitors - they were due to visit Wed-Thurs but came yesterday instead; but we did have the bonus of the house being visitor ready - curtains all up, cushions cleaned, rugs, sofa all cleaned and all the baking done in a late Saturday night /crack of dawn Sunday shift :-). We finally got a tree which is massive and needs decorating, but we are almost there.

My project over the week is to

  • make a fancy dress costume for TheNiece for xmas day 'panto', Work is not so busy so I can crack on with that and learning my (few) lines :-). The sewing machine is up and ready for action.

Have a good day,

Aria999 · 19/12/2022 12:17

Morning all!

Hope you managed to magic suits out of nowhere @BadShepherd !

Let me know if you try the hairstyle @SnowAndIceLobelia ! Mine now seems a bit more like the intended (though rather shorter) after a wash and sleeping in braids. My hair hates blow drying and styling products so often comes out of the hairdresser looking a bit weird. It does indeed get in my face the whole time @ChristmasCrackler but only one tiny strand so I am hoping it will grow out of it!

Wow @SpiritOfEdna I haven't had a sewing machine since I was a teen. Very impressive! Hope it comes out well.

Today I have to go to the toy shop to buy Pokémon for the cousins, then I am taking DS to an adventure park type thing to see if it would make a good birthday party venue in the new year. Then we will race to Kung fu to get there in time, and collapse exhausted in the evening!

SnowAndIceLobelia · 19/12/2022 14:40

Love Winter Solstice by RP. In fact (hopefully this is not a spoiler) one New Year i recreated their Christmas eve picnic when we went walking on Downs near us. French onion soup with sherry, bread rolls with butter and ham and crisp apples. Is there anythying better? In my time I have also been known to recreate a Famous Five picnic or two. Sandwich paste is an acquired taste though.

I have officially finished Christmas shopping. (Presents). The final thing was a lovely felted robin Christmas tree decoration for a friend I am seeing on Wednesday. I have had a glass of wine and a cocktail consisting of baileys, grand marnier and some chocolate syrup. The bus kindly brought me home.

I am now cooking pea and ham soup for dinner.

I feel most content.

@SpiritOfEdna if my guests turned up early I would probably collapse in a puddle!

Very pleased that the small shepherd is okay.

Thanks for the paint name @Peridot1 ! It looks lovely!

Warmest seasonal wishes to all.

ChristmasCrackler · 19/12/2022 20:33

I too love an RP! Such warmth to them.
Hurrah to hair behaving, @Aria999 Jealous! Made it to loft with some bits today.
You are all so organised! DH is doing Christmas food as my brain turns into a puddle. But my success is in the presents and decorating the tree. So I just have a family present drop and then done.
We're having visitors on Christmas eve but easy company so not stressed. I am grateful for the Calm Christmas book. It's soothing my soul :)

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/12/2022 22:12

I managed to clean out a bunch of cardboard boxes that were not being used! To recycling they went! 😁

Peridot1 · 19/12/2022 22:17

Your picnic sounds lovely @SnowAndIceLobelia. As does your cocktail fuelled shopping trip!

ChristmasCrackler · 20/12/2022 07:22

Morning all! Also on the junkie coffee as I write. Tbh i prefer the London Nootropics one ( small sachets of instant coffee, which apparently contain a useful junkie hit) I normally drink bog standard instant and find 'proper' coffee too strong. I'm quite alarmed at using four tablespoons of the Four Sigmatic - doesn't that mean it only lasts five minutes? Also I think that level of caffeine might make my brain explode and I'm certain I'd never sleep again! I do hope you're finding it helpful though, @Peridot1 and @BadShepherd !

Well done @Mumtobabyhavoc! It's a great feeling getting stuff out of the house

Baileys in a cocktail and the making of soup sound like a wonderful recipe for contentment @SnowAndIceLobelia!

Lovely to read all the posts as always. I'm scrolling on my phone by the light of the Christmas tree, and I love the familiarity of the 'voices' on this thread.

Best wishes to you all as you go about the day Xmas Smile

Peridot1 · 20/12/2022 08:52

Morning all.

I have to say I agree it will make the coffee last a short time using four tablespoons and it’s definitely not cheap @ChristmasCrackler. Although it doesn’t seem too strong. I might try the London Nootropics one next time.

Yesterday I stripped the spare bed - will wash the bedding today. Packed some of the books into bags - will finish today. Wrapped a few more presents - more to be done today.

Sainsbury's order will arrive this morning and DH ordered it and usually deals with it but he has been struck down by the lurgy so may not appear from his bed. Between his knee which is still an issue and now this I’m short of patience with him. It always seems to be something. I know I should be more sympathetic but it’s driving me mad. Especially as the knee was SO stupid and self inflicted. I’m not saying any of that out loud by the way - just venting here.

I am heading out to do the last of my Christmas shopping later I think. Sadly I’ll be driving so no nice cocktails for me!

petalpower · 20/12/2022 10:08

A bit of a medical day here. Currently waiting at the dentists to get my orthodontic wire looked at as I think something has come adrift and I don’t want it to snap over Christmas. Then this afternoon is the follow up cardiologist appointment for my MRI. In between I need to go to the greengrocers and butchers to put in/collect Christmas orders. Then a hundred and one other little jobs. Busy day!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/12/2022 19:23

@Peridot1 @petalpower
hoping things go well re your mri petal.
peridot, I brew my coffee double strength and make lattes I think rival any cafe. 1/2 cup ground coffee in the drip machine with 2c water. When brewed it's 1/4c-1/3c coffee, give or take, to 1c heated and frothed milk (microwave to heat and stick blender to froth. Nothing special) Works for me. 😊

Have made an apple cake. Lovely aroma. 😛

BadShepherd · 20/12/2022 19:34

@SnowAndIceLobelia French onion soup is the BEST! I think I need to buy more onions.

@petalpower i hope it’s gone ok today. I rather like MRIs - “lie down for 20 minutes and don’t move” = right you are then fella.

I wrapped ALL the remaining presents today - then checked my Amazon and I’ve mislaid something - anyone have any ideas where I might’ve put it? 🤷‍♀️

I had lunch out with a friend and it was really lovely - a beautiful mild day here and my blow-dry was looking on point and not plastered across my face. We gossiped and gazed out the window across the sea to other islands.

I’m knackered and tomorrow was looking forward to the grand assembling and experimenting with the new bean-to-cup machine. Instead I got a call from the hospital at 5:30 and I’ve got to go in tomorrow for a lumbar puncture - and not allowed to drive as it can cause pressure issues around the brain. So instead of chilling out with my coffee machine I’ll be spending 4 hours on the blasted bus. 😭 At least I can finish my book I suppose.

@FireworkFluster i too love everyone’s stories - helps keep me grounded knowing others are plodding along too trying to make small positive adjustments.

petalpower · 20/12/2022 20:12

Thank @Mumtobabyhavoc and @BadShepherd - it was cardiac MRI results today (I had the scan a few weeks ago and it was indeed a lovely lie down for about 45 minutes!). Everything went as well as it could possibly do and my condition is stable which is really good news.
I’m intrigued hearing about everyone’s various cups of coffee. I’m a tea drinker so it’s all double Dutch to me!

petalpower · 20/12/2022 20:39

And good luck for your lumbar puncture tomorrow @BadShepherd . That doesn’t sound like much of a fun pre-Christmas outing. Your lunch out today sounds lovely too.
I’m getting very bad at replying to everyone but I love to hear what you’ve all been up to.

ChristmasCrackler · 20/12/2022 20:45

@Peridot1 feel free to vent! Better out than in 💐
Pleased to hear things are stable @petalpower! I'm naturally a tea drinker but I find a morning coffee helps my concentration. Otherwise I'm a bit of a scatterbrain! The addition of lion's mane ( dried mushroom) apparently does wonders for brains. Couple of members of my family swear by lion's mane capsules to counteract ADHD tendencies- both have been diagnosed but not yet on medication.

Willbe thinking of you tomorrow @BadShepherd What time is it?

I am working on Stoicism over here with various health things going on with family members (jam in sandwich again) and also waiting for some scan results myself.

Not got much done at home but been busy at work so off soon for an early night 😴

petalpower · 20/12/2022 21:15

Sorry to hear about your jam in sandwich situation @ChristmasCrackler plys your own health worries. There’s always something isn’t there. Think you deserve an early night.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/12/2022 22:02

@petalpower glad to know things are stable. That's good news!
I'm a tea-drinker, really. Just masquerading as a coffee drinker the past year or so. 😄

SnowAndIceLobelia · 21/12/2022 03:46

Bes of luck today @BadShepherd Thanks
