We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Started writing individual responses and just lost them all so will just wave to you all. Lots of amazing achievements from you all. Not sure I’m cut out for head girl @ChristmasCrackler ! My mum was always amazing in the way she could conjure up a feast at very little notice from a really tiny kitchen and mum and dad used to enjoy hosting get togethers. I am just quite a family orientated person and like cooking for people I suppose.
Today I’ve picked up DH’s laptop from the menders and visited a lovely friend who lives near the shop for several cups of tea.

petalpower · 14/12/2022 19:44

Oops pressed send too soon. Also menu planned and added to the online grocery shop and finalised the menu plans for Christmas and the NY. Wrapped a few more presents too.

Peridot1 · 15/12/2022 08:39

Well four tablespoons of the coffee was ok @ChristmasCrackler. Not sure I noticed me being more energetic but I did get stuff done.

Lunch with cocktails sounds lovely @WinterLobelia. I haven’t managed a Christmas lunch with friends at all this year.

main Christmas tree is now done. Still have a small pile of things to go into garage but most boxes went in yesterday.

Didn't do village cards so will do today. Doing a Costco shop with DH this morning. Will also strip bed in small spare room and wash it ready to go back on for my niece coming for NY. Also we have some Christmas lego sets and I’m contemplating getting them out and setting them up but I need to decide where to put them. It might be a step too far. (How much Christmas stuff around the house is too much???)

Have a great day all.

RunningKatie · 15/12/2022 12:57

You cannot have too much Christmas stuff @Peridot1 My dc know school is out when I put out the Snowman toilet roll!
Today I am working from the sofa, under a stack of blankets. Ds is doing carols at school later so I need to get some thermals on.
Tonight we need a food shop, I am hoping football training is cancelled as the pitches are still frozen. It was -6 this morning and we're nowhere near the proper North.

petalpower · 15/12/2022 16:43

I agree with @RunningKatie you can never have too many Christmas decorations @Peridot1 ! If I had lunchtime cocktails @WinterLobelia the rest of the day would be a write off. It was minus 5 here this morning and we’re in East Anglia, a couple of days ago was minus 8 overnight. @Hooverphobe is probably laughing at us soft southerners. I read it’s supposed to be minus 18 in some part of Scotland tonight. Brrrr. I’m sure the football pitch will still be frozen @RunningKatie . How was the carol service?
Today I’ve been to a carol singing event at the nursing home, had lunch with a lovely friend, picked up groceries from the greengrocers and butchers, done a bit more wrapping and cleared the ironing pile. I need to settle down with the menu plans for Christmas and NY after dinner and make some serious shopping lists.

ChristmasCrackler · 16/12/2022 08:32

@petalpower visited a lovely friend who lives near the shop for several cups of tea.
Now that's my kind of socialising 😍
My parent were big 'club' people and it was all drinks do's, dinner parties, progressive suppers and 'ladies nights'. My childhood memories are full of lots of people and the smell of cigarette/cigar/pipe smoke and perfume. My mum is in her 80s and still has a more active social life than me, though it's mainly lunches and coffee mornings and funerals now. Interestingly it's still generally groups. Means she's not reliant on us for entertainment which is a relief.

ChristmasCrackler · 16/12/2022 08:39

I lost a big post. BRB but hello everyone in the meantime 💕

Hooverphobe · 16/12/2022 11:56

I’ll save my sympathy for “soft southerners” when they’re sat in a pool of sweat in the summer. 😁 We don’t have much cool for 3x/day showers here. Or sweating in general… I’m taking my kids to the med next summer - they have literally NO idea what’s ahead of them! 😂

School’s mostly still closed here although my youngest went in, but I’ve just had a message to say he’s slipped on the ice and cut his head on a sled. Doesn’t want to come home though so I’ll leave him to it.

I’m very glad I’ve ordered my Xmas meat in and that I don’t have to go into town for anything now. Post of course is utterly fucked too.

im so far behind all my little jobs having had the kids off school and me being away so today I’m just trying to take back control of the kitchen.

Aria999 · 16/12/2022 12:11

im so far behind all my little jobs having had the kids off school and me being away so today I’m just trying to take back control of the kitchen.

This is so often me!

Peridot1 · 16/12/2022 13:22

Ouch for your DS @Hooverphobe.

All boxes of Christmas decorations and bits now in garage. Still haven’t decided about the Christmas Lego but will have a look at it and have a think. One spare room bed stripped and bedding washed. Other is still in use until tomorrow but will get that sorted next week in readiness for 29th. DH and I did a big Costco trip yesterday and I have just been to Waitrose. We are out at Xmas drinks tonight and have friends coming for dinner tomorrow. Still haven’t done village Christmas cards but will do this afternoon and deliver them while it’s sunny.

RunningKatie · 16/12/2022 16:28

Schools out! The dc are already hanging around like lost sheep. I suspect they are coming down from a sugar high!
My whole house needs a good clean and I am so behind with gift shopping. Is it too early to crack open the mulled wine?

Aria999 · 16/12/2022 17:00

DS last day of school and I am packing in the small jobs!

Went to store to get washing up liquid

Attempted a (not very good) fix on the bottom of the garage door where I backed into it in the summer

Changed a light bulb

Just grabbing lunch then am off to get my hair cut before picking up DS at 3:30.

WinterLobelia · 16/12/2022 17:07

Hi all- sorry for falling off the thread. Just had a really difficult week. Will go back and catch up.....

WinterLobelia · 16/12/2022 17:19

Ouch for your DS @Hooverphobe ! I hope he is okay.

school is out for us as well! i am so pleased. It was hard getting older DS through the past few weeks. But I just got his report and rather inexplicably (given he has metldowns and leaves class and has to be persuaded to go back in several times a week) he has done really really really well. He did not believe me when i told him and insisted on seeing the report himself; 'It's not that i don't believe you, mum.... '.

But we have had a rough week medically with him on a few ongoing issues but hopefully sorted now. But it has taken it out of all of us emotionally.

In the meantime I had lovely cocktails on Tuesday. That seems so long ago now! I have sorted gifts for nieces abroad. Sorted gifts for newphews x 2 here. Sorted gifts for godchild x 2 here. I need to get something for the grandson of our cleaner. Finally sorted out something for DH and just have a few more things for the Dcs then done. I have not done any christmas cards yet but am wondering if there is even any point given the mail strikes. But we do need to get some christmas cheques to DH's godchildren.

Tomorrow I am going to write up the shopping list and send DH out to shop. I have delegated tree raising and tree trimming to everyone else in the family as my role in that regard is to sip prosecco and watch it happen.

I'll get to house projects again soon but after i have ahd a chance to lie quietly in a corner and recover.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

petalpower · 16/12/2022 19:49

Sounds like sitting down with a large Prosecco is definitely in order @WinterLobelia. So hard even when they’re not little children any more. Well done for everyone who’s got to the end of them. I remember that feeling well both as a parent and a teacher!
Today I’ve been to the hairdressers for a cut and colour and have the most mammoth list of all lists for the Christmas period. Daily reminders for the next couple of weeks. Good to have it out of my head and onto paper! I also bought a completely unnecessary jumper - it was 25% off so would have been rude to walk past the shop!

ChristmasCrackler · 16/12/2022 20:22

Big hugs all round! I can feel the Christmas stress building up on here.
Promise me you'll all do something lovely for yourselves this evening or tomorrow!

We got the Christmas decorations up today ☺

Peridot1 · 17/12/2022 08:26

Morning all!

good to see you @WinterLobelia. Sorry about your stresses. Hope your DS is ok - hope the good report boosts him a bit.

@RunningKatie - never too early for mulled wine!

@Aria999 - enjoy your hair appointment. I got mine done on Monday. It was a nice relaxing couple of hours.

@petalpower - hair dos all around this week! Well done on the list. It helps so much doesn’t it?

@ChristmasCrackler It is that time of stresses isn’t it? We are luck this year and not too much to do. I’ve been making sure I have time to sit and read every day. My favourite book for this time of year is Winter Solstice by Rosamun Pilcher and a sit down every afternoon with a cup of tea and my book is definitely a priority.

I did write and deliver the village Christmas card yesterday, and booked lunch at the pub for New Years Eve when I popped their card in, did washing and a bit of tidying. We went to some neighbours for drinks last night which was lovely but my feet were killing me so we ended up coming home early as I was dreading the walk back. Definitely wore the wrong boots! Soles are paper thin.

we have our neighbours coming in for dinner this evening but that’s nice and relaxed. House is pretty tidy. I’m starting the wrapping today which hopefully won’t take too long. Going to set up a wrapping station at the desk in the spare room that we can all use as needed.

Actually feeling pretty organised at this stage. I think it helps that it’s only us three for Christmas and DS is 21 so I’m not dealing with the stresses of young children and hosting or visiting and buying for loads.

petalpower · 17/12/2022 08:56

You sound amazingly organised @Peridot1 !
I’m far less stressed now the master list has been written and am starting to feel quite festive! Massive pre-Christmas Sainsbury’s delivery arriving this morning so need to clear the fridge in anticipation. May make some smug soup with the sad looking veg. Visiting auntie this afternoon then out to dinner at friends this evening.
Have a lovely day all!

Hooverphobe · 17/12/2022 09:44

My youngest was fine it turns out. He’s got quite the gash on his head 🙄 but that didn’t put a dampener on hours and hours of sledging. It was Xmas dinner at the primary school yesterday and the cook took pity on all the high school students not at school and with their noses pressed up against the glass - let them all in and fed them. Everyone is always so against tiny schools on mn - but the kids all hang out ages 3-16 so it’s very sweet.

@WinterLobelia well done on getting through the week relatively unscathed! My eldest has not coped this week - he needs his routines and when school is cancelled with less than an hour’s notice…

I’m currently in my first junkie coffee - let’s see what it brings!

I’ve had to bring out the big guns to get my youngest to tidy his room. I removed his tv, his Alexa, his crafts, his new toys and yet still he wouldn’t tidy. This morning I’ve hidden all his shoes so he can’t go out. 😳

@petalpower and @Peridot1 are once again putting me to shame with their brilliant organising.

Our charity shop has said NO MORE which kind of puts the kybosh on me decluttering, but I’m making small attempts.

Today I need to find a tape measure to measure up the windows in the kitchen for new blinds.

Smug soup is on the go and I’m going to do something smug with a chicken later.

@ChristmasCrackler what’s new with you?

@Aria999 i hope you now have beautiful swishy hair so you can swish it any time anyone drives you demented over the next few weeks.

RunningKatie · 17/12/2022 10:48

I am loving hiding the shoes @Hooverphobe!
I've been tackling the ironing basket and the pile of receipts. I want to go into 2023 with them both under control.
Hope all is well @WinterLobelia i am sorry you've had a rough week.
I think I'm off out for a coffee this afternoon, need to find and wrap the gifts to take with me!

ChristmasCrackler · 17/12/2022 11:14

Morning all! I am basking in the ambience what with painting finished and decorations put up. Our simple Christmas is pretty much sorted.
It's lethal out as we had a thaw which then re-froze so a lot of black ice. I think I'm quite tired with a the concentration when driving (and various driveways on foot)
I'm feeling slightly spacey with it all but am enjoying reading what everyone is up to 👋

Aria999 · 17/12/2022 12:38

Sadly not, @Hooverphobe I am a bit uncertain about the results in fact.

I wanted it to look like this. It doesn't!

Think it might be my hair's fault not the hairdresser's.

i0.wp.com/www.hadviser.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/31-rebel-shag-with-highlights-Bhegq0UHbcF.jpg?resize=850%2C1004&ssl=1

Glad DS is not seriously hurt!

petalpower · 18/12/2022 09:24

I love the hairstyle you wanted @Aria999 . At least hair grows and it won’t be like it forever!
How are you all? I’m still in bed with a cup of tea (my turn to have a bit of a weekend lie in and not get up with the dog) after a bit of a late night out at friends. I want to catch up with watching the strictly final which I missed, although know who won, and am hoping to do that uninterrupted by family requests. Hoping to finish wrapping all the presents and have a bit of a general clean and tidy as the upcoming week looks pretty busy.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 18/12/2022 09:36

Another seasonal namechange.

We have ice but not snow yet.

I aslo love the hairstyle you wanted @Aria999 and actually am considering taking that photo to a hairdresser as my hair length is roughly that and I think it would suit me.

Still in bed here. I've lost all motivation. DH is watching The Simpsons. DCs are on netflix.

But yesterday I cleared the dining room ready for the Christmas period and bought seasonal flowers and laid the table nicely with all our Christmas ephemera (like this below). Plus candles and fairy lights.

charlottesinteriors.co.uk/animals/silver-stag-on-base/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxcOjn-6C_AIVi8ftCh0mrg0AEAQYAiABEgJMDvD_BwE

I am planning to go to the big town near us this week (alone, on the bus) so I can do some last minute shopping and stop for a glass of wine cup of tea.

Happy Sunday everyone. Flowers

Peridot1 · 18/12/2022 10:21

Lovely hairstyle @Aria999 but I think it could actually be quite high maintenance to achieve the waves like that even if your hair is wavy.

Nice name change @SnowAndIceLobelia. Love your stag. I have a similar one. Will try attach photo. Mine is from Sainsburys though! Never thought of putting him on the table. Mine is currently in the window in the kitchen but it’s not ideal really. We don’t have a separate dining room to decorate any more unfortunately.

Nice lie in @petalpower. I was up just after 7 as normal these days. DH appeared about 20 minutes ago. Hmm. I did have a lovely chat with my best friend who lives in Sydney though so worth being up. (I will never not appreciate being able to make overseas calls for free via Messenger etc.). Second load of laundry is on and I’ve emptied and reloaded the dishwasher and that’s on again. We had friends over for dinner last night so lots of washing up to be done.

Quiet day here. Will get the house back tidy after last night. Neighbours actually commented how tidy it was! I’m going to start wrapping presents today. Will finish my book this afternoon. And then might get the Christmas jigsaw going.

I am planning a similar shopping trip this week @SnowAndIceLobelia. Hadn’t thought of bus and glass of wine though! Inspired! I’ll be early morning for a nice coffee and cake somewhere.

have a lovely Sunday everyone.
