We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

I’ll toast to that with my real coffee with real cream. 😁

I once asked someone to pick me up some butter - they presented me with half a kilo of marg. wth?

ChristmasCrackler · 08/12/2022 10:02

Re-read after posting and didn't mean to be flippant about MS. I meant that I'm not considering my diet with MS in mind. Sorry!

Hooverphobe · 08/12/2022 10:04

Haha zero offence taken. There’s no way I’d embrace a low-fat diet - I’d be starving! And it makes 100% sense to me that if my neurons are struggling - then I need lots of protein and fat (the very thing which lubricates/coats said neural pathways).

although I do like a muller light toffee… 😳

ChristmasCrackler · 08/12/2022 10:19

Cheers hoover Brew I'm currently drinking this (with cream) I get it on subscription each month! My version of mother's little helper

I like your thinking! I am no expert but it seems to me that obesity has shot up since the 80s when the low fat/high carb diet became the NHS go-to recommendation. And I would lay money on wholesome natural food being better for everybody's system than the stuff that's been meddled with.

Aria999 · 08/12/2022 14:03

@ChristmasCrackler I am similar to you, have embraced dairy, somewhat reduced carbs though not to keto levels, become slim.

I have to go to the supermarket to get real butter for us to eat whenever we visit my dad 🤣

Peridot1 · 08/12/2022 14:28

@ChristmasCrackler - love the sound of that coffee! I’m procrastination personified. I should order some. When I get around to it! Grin

completely agree that the low fat advice has led to where we are now with obesity. That and ultra processed foods. I can’t say I practice what I preach though as I definitely still have far too much of a carb habit but I am trying to reduce.

ChristmasCrackler · 08/12/2022 14:47

The coffee is very tasty @Peridot1 This one is instant but i also like Four Sigmatic ground coffee which I lazily get from Amazon. Just one cup in the morning or I'd never sleep. It really does help focus.
I eat too many carbs at the moment as well but definitely feel better and lighter without them.
@Aria999 @Hooverphobe i heard a rumour that margarine needs yellow colour to be added as left to it's own devices it's an unappealing grey 🤮 Butter all the way in this house! Just goes on veg as I don't eat bread as it doesn't agree with me at all.
Had my coffee date, made dinner, wrapped presents. Off to do pony things on this gorgeous wintry afternoon!

petalpower · 08/12/2022 16:12

It’s been so cold here today. Just back from the second dog walk of the day and the frost just hasn’t lifted all day in many places.
You’re very kind in your comments @Hooverphobe but believe me I’m deeply unimpressive in real life!!
Going back to one of your previous comments @ChristmasCrackler I feel much better when I combine jobs on one trip. I’m in a fairly rural location (though nothing like @Hooverphobe !) but if I’m going out in the car I like to make the most of it. Today has been lots of little jobs including taking my husband to the station(he’s gone to London for a work Christmas get together), posting a birthday card and all the Christmas cards that are already written, taking glass and plastic recycling, dropping off DD’s prescription, buying new recycling bags and light bulbs, putting up and decorating two Christmas trees and writing more Christmas cards. Also did the menu plan for next week and added everything to the online grocery order. One of the outside lights was continually flashing on and off last night so today I’ve fitted a new bulb which entailed buying a choice of two from the shop whilst I was out (couldn’t remember if it was bayonet or screw fitting), standing on a ladder and removing two fiddly screws to get access and replace the bulb. Very pleased with myself for that one! DH is now in London and DD at work until 7 so I’m going to see how much else I can get through before crashing on the sofa with rubbish tv!

Hooverphobe · 08/12/2022 16:21

@ChristmasCrackler you’re a bad influence - druggy coffee is 33% off on Amazon so I have some on the way. 🙏

I give off the impression of being a staid, semi-retired great aunt, but I am a child of the sixties and so quite the subversive on the quiet.

Which one did you get.....?

ChristmasCrackler · 08/12/2022 17:00

Oh @petalpower you are mightily impressive and let nobody tell you otherwise 💕 I suspect that you have an inner cool of steel, and like everyone else on this thread, would be pretty cool to hang out with!

The ground is still frozen and my car declared it to be -1c at the yard. Stunningly beautiful with bare or golden leafed trees silhouetted against the most gorgeous sunset. And there was the sweet, sweet smell of pony breath and hay for those who appreciate such delights!

@SpiritOfEdna I hope you are getting to the bottom of the fruit fly situation!

RunningKatie · 08/12/2022 17:01

Wow @petalpower that is some achieving going on today!
Today I've started Christmas cards, I has taken me so long and I've not got them all done yet.
Just need to feed the troops before football training, it's going to be so cold. I saw the gritter lorry out at 3pm. Must make a flask of coffee.

ChristmasCrackler · 08/12/2022 17:02

core of steel. One day i will proofread before* i hit post 🤦‍♀️

ChristmasCrackler · 08/12/2022 17:02

.....🤦‍♀️

Hooverphobe · 08/12/2022 17:10

Ah the smell of Timothy hay and a hard frost - bliss!

well quite @ChristmasCrackler - this thread started so well and now it’s all just “drugs I take to get me through the day”. 😂 I bought the four sigmatic dark ground roast. I also had a cannabis sweetie for breakfast.

I’m happy - useless and dismissive GP I spoke to on Tuesday has left and tomorrow Dr Dreamy is back - he’s the utter star who sent me straight to hospital in the first place so knows what’s going on.

Hooverphobe · 08/12/2022 17:13

Dr Dreamy is from Belfast and there’s something about a norn iron accent turns me into a giggling schoolgirl. 😳

I too believe @petalpower is something of a super woman - or perhaps she’s working her way through a career’s worth of confiscated drugs? 😉

petalpower · 08/12/2022 19:08

I was a deputy head in primary so not so many drugs around there! 😂
I think everyone on this thread sounds like they’re awesome! Super women (or super people) all of us.

I do hope you didn't freeze solid!! I just nipped out in the car and it needed de-icing already!

ChristmasCrackler · 08/12/2022 20:33

We started in such a grown up fashion, didn't we @Hooverphobe? It did take two project threads to throw caution to the winds though. We're getting the feel of the last people left at the party now. Delighted about Dr Dreamy for all the reasons!
@petalpower it's good to know the kids don't start too early! Our local secondary was featured on a programme about county lines 🤯 Luckily after the one of mine who attended, left
@WinterLobelia where are yoooò? Did aibu swallow you whole?

Peridot1 · 08/12/2022 22:08

I have to say I have definitely noticed a change in tone on here from a list of things to do to a list of dodgy coffees! You lot are definitely a bad influence!

impressive list of things achieved @petalpower. Not sure what I did other than an hour and a half sleep this morning!

liking the sound of Dr Dreamy @Hooverphobe! I love a non iron accent too.

WinterLobelia · 08/12/2022 22:10

I am here! I started (earlier today) writing a very long post about my own N Irish Dr Dishy then realised it was awfully outing to anyone who knows me then went out to the pub. Grin

And now, I am in a convo with someone IRL about maybe acquiring a dog that needs rehoming.

But am lurking madly. :)

petalpower · 08/12/2022 22:26

Have you got a dog already @WinterLobelia ? I post things too then think they’re pretty outing!

ChristmasCrackler · 09/12/2022 06:10

Morning all! Sorry not sorry @Peridot1 about the shroomy coffee Blush
I'd so love a good natter over any kind of drink with you all, and be able to say the outing things!
But a coffee, a cat and a kindle at home will have so do, along with a few fudged details.
My phone is currently doing an update and I'm posting on my kindle, which has some odd ideas about spelling.
I've not got a dishy or N Irish doctor. The vets are all old and crusty too. Many years ago when I was a free and single Crackler, I sent one of the young and handsome vets a Valentine's card. I had a mighty crush on him and sent it anonymously. I went in some time later and it was pinned up on their board with all the thank you for looking after my pet cards.

Real hard frost out there today. Go gently lovely people!

Hooverphobe · 09/12/2022 07:14

We’re going to need regular updates about the doggy @WinterLobelia !

I sometimes worry about outing myself, but if challenged I’d play dumb and do “mumsnet? Never heard of it? Is it a soft play in London?”.

@ChristmasCrackler some pensioner friends found 3kg cannabis resin washed up on the beach. They sold 2kg and kept the other to enjoy in their retirement. 😂

My norn iron bf decamped and moved to Texas of all places. It’s where all my ex’s end up… what am I doing to drive them there? 🤷‍♀️

I’m in the middle of Xmas cards as today is the last day to hand them into school for the kids to deliver. I also will, will, WILL post my dad’s presents today and pray they get there in time.

Dr Dreamy is phoning this morning so I might suggest he might like to get snowed in at mine…? Inappropriate?

Hooverphobe · 09/12/2022 07:17

as for county lines, that’s horribly depressing. Poor kids. @petalpower I’d like to believe primary schools are wholly unaffected but I’m sure there are outliers. Back in the 80s here there was a boy in my sister’s class would have a “wee nip” before school. Aged 10.
