Daily Project - Round Two!

We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Morning!

Hard hard frost here as well. I can see it glittering in the street lights. Very pretty. I am a mad fan of snow though and am always hopeful.

We don[t have a dog right now @petalpower . We had a very elderly and incontinent dog who died a few months back. It was really hard as had had her since she was a puppy. The dog that needs to be rehomed is also very old and it looks like the owner may have to go into a home. I still have a stash of doggie nappies and waterproof dog beds....

Quiet day here. I am going to do a tip run. I have put 'tip run' into my diary every Friday for the next few weeks. That reminds me- the tip is on a booking only system so I had better do that too.

WinterLobelia · 09/12/2022 07:26

Oh for goodness sake! No slots available for the tip today. Grrr. I have booked for tomorrow instead.

@Hooverphobe I am sure I recall a story of a woman going to collect a turkey from a farmer for christmas a few years back and she got snowed in. I believe a romance did ensue.

WinterLobelia · 09/12/2022 07:29

Or maybe I just mis-remembered the romance bit.

RunningKatie · 09/12/2022 07:37

Really frosty here this morning. I didn't freeze at football but the walk to school is going to be a challenge.
Today I am going to log into work for a couple of hours and then finish the Christmas cards and do some panicky online shopping.
I am wondering if the post office is open with the strikes. Better ask google!

Peridot1 · 09/12/2022 08:02

Morning all. -3 here so pretty frosty. Will be wrapping up well to take the dog out for her walk.

am about to order the mushroom coffee on Amazon. It sounds intriguing. I don’t drink much coffee am much more a strong builder’s tea person but do like one coffee a day.

That’s so funny about the cannabis selling pensioners @Hooverphobe! Grin. Very enterprising of them.

We will need a photo of the dog @WinterLobelia!

Getting lots of jobs done in one trip out is the ideal @petalpower. Sounds like you did loads yesterday.

my house is still a mess. I did do some more Christmas decorating yesterday and some sorting out. Still lots to do though. Doing the tree in the living room this morning. Putting boxes away into the garage. Putting charity stuff into the car and hopefully taking it to the charity shop this afternoon. I want to redo the main Christmas tree tomorrow as I’m not happy with it. Then once that’s done I am DONE with it all.

Still have to start in the Christmas cards. And the wrapping. A couple more presents to order.

SpiritOfEdna · 09/12/2022 10:29

morning all, wondering about the coffee.... :-)

jobs for today:

  • well Carpet cleaner has been rehired, just for one day though, so hopefully will get the rug super clean.
  • Office is now completely empty, no sign of any source for sodding fruit flies (I was wondering whether there was an apple core somewhere, but nope) and no more flies; with clean everywhere today and start putting the contents back. Will have a photographing of clothes splurge as well and put some stuff up on Vinted.

Am in awe of everyone's Christmas tasks; not even started, but will go and buy the tree on Sunday.

Thank god it's Friday, work has been a bit full on this week.

Aria999 · 09/12/2022 12:04

Wow, busy morning everyone! Good morning from America!

Yesterday I tidied up downstairs and put the Christmas tree up. The kids helped decorate it when they got back from school. Have a few fairy lights and battery powered candles too, it looks nice 😊

I am not too worried about being outed. I almost never post anything that I wouldn't say in real life. For the occasional one, I name change and change back after.

Hooverphobe · 09/12/2022 18:07

In the end I had to buy MORE cards, but got them all written and popped in the card bin - then the high school students distribute them all over the island. Better than coal mines… 😁

I also posted the parcel - well kinda - everyone and their dog was in the queue clutching 500 international parcels. A friend offered to do it with hers so I bunged her a fiver and told her I’ve got a bottle in the fridge with her name on!

Dr Dreamy called and remembered me (or rather my strange case) - a letter from my consultant had landed on his desk this morning containing not great news - but I thanked him profusely because without him joining the dots back in august I’d still be confused and unaware. I did not ask him for a shag.

WinterLobelia · 09/12/2022 18:24

'I did not ask him for a shag'.

That is tomorrow's Daily Project, @Hooverphobe Grin

petalpower · 09/12/2022 19:17

Sorry it wasn’t great news @Hooverphobe but good that it came from someone so delicious!

ChristmasCrackler · 10/12/2022 06:47

I did not ask him for a shag

Well why not?! 😂

That's all I have time for now but reading the conversation has lifted my spirits ahead of work this morning!

Catch you all later x

Peridot1 · 10/12/2022 08:20

‘I did not ask him for a shag’ has to be quote of the thread @Hooverphobe. Sorry the news wasn’t great. Hope you are ok.

I didn’t quite get my planned list done yesterday. But I did order the coffee. Figured i needed it as I just could not get motivated yesterday morning. But the living room tree is now done and I just need to remove the boxes from the room. Didn’t go out so no charity shop run - that’s this morning’s job. Need to pack up some books to go too. Still planning on redoing the main tree which I think will involve buying some large gold baubles and some ribbon. Need to double check what I already have. I want all the decorating finished by end of today.

So this morning I’m heading out to do charity shop run, supermarket for a few bits and possibly garden centre for baubles. Then big tidying blitz. Then neighbours for Christmas drinks this evening.

have a good Saturday all.

WinterLobelia · 10/12/2022 11:08

Morning all.

Hope you are okay today @Hooverphobe Thanks .

I did my tip run. The roads are icy.

Today I am going to do a literal 'one job' - testing the hundreds and hundreds of pens and marker pens we have everywhere and throwing out the dried up and manky ones.

The Dcs are agitating that we get Netflix. It's long overdue as was my supposed-to-be Christmas present from last year so I will look into that as well.

Aria999 · 10/12/2022 12:37

Good luck with the pen project @WinterLobelia . Every time we use pens we throw away several.

We have also held out against Netflix so far!

Happy decorating @Peridot1

Sorry you had bad health news @Hooverphobe ☹️ hope you are doing ok. I like the idea of high school student mail! Do they get paid?

There will not be much time for projects today; Saturday is fairly packed in with DS's Kung fu, supermarket run, and cooking dinner in time for us all to eat together at 5:30 (we do this once a week, the rest of the time DH cooks for him and me after the kids are in bed).

petalpower · 10/12/2022 13:12

Hope everyone is keeping warm in this chilly weather. So cold here and very frosty. I’m playing in a concert later in a church which I hope isn’t too cold. I’ve picked up this horrible cold which seems to be doing the rounds and feel pretty rotten with it. Could do with a quiet day at home and not going anywhere but absolutely can’t let people down. We’re already a man down due to Covid and there are only 10 in the music group with most pieces involving playing individual parts so have to just get on with things.
Yesterday was a good day - a solicitor thing got finally completed, Openreach turned up to install the fibre box from the road which we’ve been waiting for since the summer, I finished all the Christmas cards and decorating the house. I also did a patch test for my colour at the hairdresser (they have changed formulation and won’t let you have it coloured unless you’ve been in a few days in advance), picked up a parcel from M and S and went out for lunch with a lovely friend. Today will be much less productive!

SpiritOfEdna · 10/12/2022 15:21

afternoon all, sounds like everyone is busy. Am flopped down on the sofa after a busy day; might get a second wind after a bit of the football.

  • recleaned rug and sofa and returned cleaner to supermarket
  • dog had a long walk
  • cleaned the office and returned everything back. Ended up with some empty shelves as decided to take stuff to the tip (tomorrow’s job if roads aren’t too icy)
That’s it for today; maybe a book and a night on the (clean) sofa for me.
ChristmasCrackler · 10/12/2022 16:41

Afternoon! What a glorious though cold day it's been! @Hooverphobe I hope the doctor news wasn't too awful and that you are feeling ok 💕

Hope you survive the show @petalpower! A nice lazy day tomorrow I hope.

All the achievements chez 'project'. Impressed!

My decluttering/regular small jobs have paid off and this afternoon I did actual cleaning! Because I have the space to pull furniture out etc. The place looks and feels fresh and I'm very happy about it! Spot cleaned carpet and even cleaned skirting board.

ChristmasCrackler · 11/12/2022 07:45

Morning! Sitting with a cat and a mind altering cup of coffee (with cream!) I can hear the clock ticking and the birds waking up. I cleared our little hallway of shoes and coats yesterday. All feels very peaceful!

I have a plan to get my storage tubs out once I'm dressed. And I shall match them with their lids! I have also washed the shower curtain. I know, rock and roll!

Have a lovely day everyone Brew

Peridot1 · 11/12/2022 08:50

Not sure any of us can compete with that level of excitement @ChristmasCrackler! But matched tubs and lids is a definite life goal!

Your pen job sounds satisfying @WinterLobelia. I’ve done that a few times here. DH used to be a collector of pens from hotels etc. so we had hundreds. Thankfully he doesn’t travel on business anymore so isn’t adding to it!

hope the concert went well @petalpower. You’ve reminded me I need to do a patch test for some eyebrow dye I’ve bought.

I didn’t do charity shop run yesterday as remembered the market was on in town so parking wouldn’t be easy. Will do on Tuesday. I redid the Christmas tree after a quick trip to buy more decorations and am much happier with it but I’ll probably still fiddle about with it adding things. Did a sort out of baubles that I won’t use and will add them to charity shop run. This morning I want to get all the boxes tidied away into the garage and spend the afternoon watching a Christmas movie and writing the Christmas cards. And I need to take the dog out for a frosty walk. It’s -5 here.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

Hooverphobe · 11/12/2022 09:03

@WinterLobelia aaaargh. Youngest bought a pen last weekend and it gave up on Friday. I said “put in in the bin then” and he just left it on the coffee-table… it piqued my rage. BIN. NOW! He also steals my GOOD pens and I find them months later sans lid.

@Aria999 All the money is going to the wildlife sanctuary to rehab rescued seals and otters. 🦭🦦

Yesterday I attacked the car with the new handheld vacuum. It was vile and I’ll need to go back out today with a very large soapy cloth because people seem to have spat out chewed up gummy bears in the drinks holders. Only explanation I can think of…

I also noticed the tread on the tyres is lower than I’d like. It’ll get through the MOT no problem, but I like a good thick tread for icy mountain roads where if you slide you’ll plunge hundreds of metres into the icy sea. 😂 So that’s a nice expense!

Today I’m going to soapy lather the car interior and wash all the wool and carefully hang on the Sheila.

petalpower · 11/12/2022 09:10

The concert went well @Peridot1 but it was quite long and I didn’t end up getting home until nearly 11. It was minus 6 when I was driving back too. Brrrr ….
Today my aunt’s god daughter and her husband and daughter were supposed to be coming for a pre Christmas pub lunch but they are a couple of hours drive away and have freezing fog so have decided to postpone the trip until the new year. We will still take auntie out but I’m a bit worried how cold it is. Will have to bundle her up in lots of layers and have a fleecy blanket on hand too. After a really busy few days I’m looking forward to not cooking! Not planning too much else apart from wine and Strictly later in front of the log burner. My cold is still pretty dreadful and DH also has it.
I think you’re turning into a bit an over achiever @ChristmasCrackler . Tubs matched, hallway cleared and the shower curtain washed!

ChristmasCrackler · 11/12/2022 10:42

I think you're turning into a bit of an over achiever
I know, right, @petalpower! I'm left with five food storage tubs (plus a few currently in the freezer) and binned a carrier bag full of lid-less tubs and tub-less lids 🤯 Their partners have presumably LTB!
Lids are my pen equivalent @WinterLobelia I think. I'm fearsome about pens, having concluded that if there are only a couple of pens in the house, they will be cherished and not lost. One in handbag, one in car, one in work bag (with sticky labels and wet wipes-VITAL equipment!) And a stash in my desk drawer but don't tell my DH

So pleased the concert went well and hope you and DH feel better soon. Wise move about the lunch @petalpower

Where you live sounds utterly terrifying @Hooverphobe and makes my rock 'n' roll tupperware lifestyle feel positively bland! I am delighted to hear you are feeling well enough to see the the car and it's sticky chewed up occupants.

I hope your frosty dog walk is lovely @Peridot1 I trust you'll wrap up warmly and LTB and his knees behind 🎉

My newly available 'tupperware' has given me a yen to cook a bit and fill freezer today.

ChristmasCrackler · 11/12/2022 10:44

🖐 @SpiritOfEdna hope you enjoyed watching the football from yourr lovely clean sofa ☺

WinterLobelia · 11/12/2022 11:31

Morning!

Cold here and I am sure I saw some snow flakes...... how much I love snow.

My Great Pen Chuck was oddly satisfying. Today will be The Great Magazine Cull.

I am trying to persuade the Dcs we should go out to lunch. Frankly I've run out of wine so need to get out. Xmas BlushXmas Grin They are reluctant because yesterday we finally got Netlix. I have binge watched 8 Episodes of The Crown (might be related to the wine running out) and they are currently binge watching Never Have I Ever and even the attractions of chicken goujons and chips seem to have palled in comparison.

@Hooverphobe one of my continuining fantasies is to live in the Outer Hebrides near nothing or no-one (except for a pub and I will need some good wifi). So I am absolutely fascinated by your descriptions of your life.

[waves] to everyone. Thanks to everyone also for being on the thread. This thread really makes me happy.

WinterLobelia · 11/12/2022 11:39

Please excuse my typos. I currently have a slumbering cat in the crook of one arm.

On the subject of the elderly dog - we were told the owner very sadly passed away yesterday. The dog is with her daughter and when they get their heads around things they will let us know. I will keep you all posted.
