We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Today I appear to have put my back out. I think it must have been the piano though I didn't notice it yesterday.

Also I have kept DS6 home as his cough seems a bit OTT today.

With a combination of thanksgiving break and various illnesses, yesterday was my first full day without both kids since 17th November.

Think I am going to join the coffee on the sofa movement today. (I already had the remains of DH birthday pastries for breakfast).

Peridot1 · 02/12/2022 14:34

Hi all.

Hope the hangover is better @WinterLobelia! The good thing about waking up with a hangover is that the day can only get better!

fingers crossed @RunningKatie.

Not ignoring everyone else but just a quick post really from me.

yesterday DH and I did some more kitchen sorting. Larder cupboard and glasses cupboard. I also did a drawer in a sideboard.

Today I’ve been shopping this morning. Couple of Xmas presents, crackers and wrapping paper plus picked up a parcel from Next.

This afternoon it’s other sideboard drawer and my chair of doom. Maybe kitchen drawer of doom too but that may just well be a doom too far! Grin

petalpower · 02/12/2022 19:35

Hello everyone! Glad you’re feeling better @ChristmasCrackler . How’s the bag @Aria999 . Has the hangover passed @WinterLobelia ? You’ve done amazingly well @SpiritOfEdna .
Can’t even remember what I’ve done over the past couple of days but have been busy! Went to a wreath making event for charity last night so now have a wonky homemade wreath. DH won’t put a nail on the door so it’s propped up in the dining room at the moment. Today I met a lovely ex teaching colleague for lunch for a good catch up. Also wrote messages on auntie’s Christmas cards - she had a good go bless her but she couldn’t even write her name the other day so there are a few random markings on each card. I told her she’d done brilliantly and she didn’t realise there was any issue. Alzheimer’s is a shit disease. ☹️

petalpower · 02/12/2022 19:36

Back not bag @Aria999 . Sorry didn’t proof read before posting!

ChristmasCrackler · 03/12/2022 08:14

Hoping you can all stay on sofa with doughnuts and coffee today! Hope the back is improving @Aria999
@petalpower is you door narrow enough to take one of those hooks that slips over the door at the top? I've just bought one for my pvc front door. Ive just not had a wreath for years 😔 But then i saw my neighbour's one.
Bless you for loving your auntie so! It's a cruel and frightening disease. Seems to manifest itself in so many different ways.

Love that DH is also on board with the sorting @Peridot1 Sounds like you've both been busy!

I do believe I'm back to full capacity now. Which is a relief. I really want to redecorate our front room before decorations go up. It's bland at min and DD has volunteered assistance and she's available this coming week.

I've written all my 10 cards! Nobody really does them any more but they are going to the handful that I know appreciate them.

Waves to everyone else and hope all is well with you all 💕

petalpower · 03/12/2022 09:46

The poor wreath is looking a bit sad this morning as it’s been inside and everything has wilted a bit. May hang it on the greenhouse door as it’s wooden and it belongs to me so I can make decisions about hooks and nails without having to ask DH’s opinion! I have got one of those over door holders but I think the back door is too thick for it.

Peridot1 · 03/12/2022 09:57

I went to a wreath making event last year @petalpower and also ended up with wonky wreath. Which bits kept falling off! Loved doing it though. Haven’t managed one this year as the village one didn’t happen. If DH won’t put a nail in the door I’ve seen people suggest command hooks. Or a command hook on the inside of the door upside down and use string to hook the wreath on and over the door. And yes Alzheimer’s is so cruel. My mum had a different dementia - they are all bastards.

Glad you are better @ChristmasCrackler. Good luck with the decorating.

I did the drawer in the sideboard yesterday and this morning found a box that will fit in it to corral some of what is in there. Mainly cheese knives and napkin rings. The napkin rings only get used at Christmas so I’ll pack them away with Xmas stuff this year. I half did the chair of doom. Will finish it today.

Also planning to do a sort out in my walk in wardrobe which is a dumping ground. I started sorting it earlier in the year but keep getting sidetracked. I’ll be staying out of DH’s way today as I’m pissed of with him so it’s a good excuse.

petalpower · 03/12/2022 20:18

Where are you all today lovely people? Hope everyone is ok.
I think the command hook is a good idea @Peridot1 . Was going to do this today but ran out of time and daylight. Maybe tomorrow.
Auntie’s decorations are all up and her Christmas tree has been decorated.
Hope you’ve all had a good day!

Aria999 · 03/12/2022 23:04

Hi everyone!

Sorry for radio silence, I have been having a pointless discussion on another thread with someone mildly annoying. (One of those where you know you should just shut up and let them have the last word but... you don't). Thread now hidden and moved on from!

I started doing the Christmas decorations but only got as far as Festive Cushion Covers because I kept having to stop DS being mean to DD. (Having achieved this, they immediately started to spat over who would have which out of two identical Festive Cushions.)

Also went to toy shop and did some Christmas present spotting. Then returned and ordered said items online from the SAME RETAILER for half the price 🤷‍♀️

ChristmasCrackler · 04/12/2022 07:30

Morning! I have been contemplating wreaths. Have been invited along to a Christmas fair today so will have a look there. Sorry about your wilting wreath @petalpower Do I take it a natural one will last till Christmas if it's outside? One of my girls invited me to a wreath making workshop but it was £45 so I declined. My lack of artistic ability is legendary round these parts. Maybe it would be worth it given you'd get the frame thing and the know how for another year (if there was any semblance of talent) I rather like the idea of a charmingly battered wreath on your greenhouse door petal.

It's amazing how stuff accumulates in drawers isn't it @Peridot1 Have you inherited much from dad's house? I hope MrP has redeemed himself now after whatever he did!

I have threads hidden too @Aria999 Every now and again I post on one which turns into a spat, or I want to leap to someone's defence, then I remember it's just the Internet, and back away. Ive hidden the whole AIBU topic. It's really hard to get anything done around small children, isn't it? My house is less cluttered and therefore tidier these days, but I'm one who always tried and failed to tidy up before putting decorations up, so it wouldn't get done. Then around a week before Christmas I'd get home from work to find DH, in charge of a houseful of smalls, had put them up over and around the mess. With their 'help' bless him.

So I'm being dragged into festivities this week by family members who are determined that I just need to be immersed to enjoy it, so I'm holding my nose and jumping in!

Well that was a long one! I trust the hangover is cured @WinterLobelia , and I'm worrying over @Hooverphobe and hoping the pain is not too bad today. And I hope @RunningKatie got to do her thing this weekend!

Wintry and reluctantly festive hugs to all Christmas 🤶

ChristmasCrackler · 04/12/2022 07:32

I couldn't find the MN Christmas emojis 🤦‍♀️

Peridot1 · 04/12/2022 08:56

Morning all. Happy Sunday.

@ChristmasCrackler - I didn’t get too much from my Dad’s house but one of the drawers I tackled had most of what I had got so I’ve moved it upstairs and I have identified a box to store it all. It’s not much. Mainly photos and some papers.

MrP is lucky to be alive both from the stupidity of his actions and me being so pissed off at him. Suffice to say a lot of whisky was involved which didn’t mix well with living in a small village with a dark skies policy so it’s very dark and missing the driveway and ending up in the ditch. For quite a while as he couldn’t get out. I got up to blood and mud everywhere. Idiot. And he was supposed to be going up into the loft today to get the Xmas decorations down but he hurt his arm and leg so won’t be able to do that so I’m doubly pissed off at him.

@Aria999 its mad that stuff is cheaper from same retailers on line isn’t it? No wonder shops are closing. Hope cushion-gate is solved!

Yesterday I didn’t do much really but did start my wardrobe. Found the floor! Have a couple of bags for charity shop. Bedroom is now a mess as it’s full of stuff I took from wardrobe. Lots of storage baskets and boxes and random stuff. Need to be a bit ruthless I think. Also sooooo many hangers!

Not sure what will get done today. We had a coffee table delivered yesterday that needs putting together. Just need to put the glass shelves on but they are heavy and I can’t do on my own so hope DH is ok for that today. Then depending on how he is I think we will start with bringing in the Christmas trees and other Christmas things from the garage. DS can help me if DH can’t. Then hopefully we can get the stuff from the loft tomorrow or Tuesday.

just realised how long this ended up! Sorry!

have a good day all.

petalpower · 04/12/2022 09:07

I’m going to try to rejuvenate the wreath today and DH has agreed to a command hook. I’m hoping it will last until Christmas outside. I think I may have achieved a rustic and artistically distressed look (or maybe just a bit of a mess!). The wreath making workshop was only £15 @ChristmasCrackler and included mulled wine and mince pies.
I remember the days of arguing children @Aria999 but mine are now 20 and 22 and the eldest has moved out. I’m not allowed to start putting up Christmas decorations until DD gets back from uni (tomorrow!) as it’s something she lives to be part of and is also much more agile than me to get into the roof of the garage where the boxes of decorations are stored!
I too hope you managed to do your planned activity this weekend @RunningKatie and it wasn’t sabotaged by germs.
Very envious of you having a walk in wardrobe @Peridot1 . Even one that’s a dumping ground.

petalpower · 04/12/2022 09:10

Oh why don’t I proofread my posts? DD loves to be part of the decorating rather than lives for it. She’s quite keen but I think there are other more exciting things in her life!

ChristmasCrackler · 04/12/2022 12:33

Oh no @Peridot1 🤯 I'm not sure what to say! What an idiot!
@petalpower I'm fluent in typo so I knew what you meant, but in this instance lives and loves do give it a whole different meaning 😂
I have a wreath which I'm very happy with. The fair was a nice one so feeling a bit more festive, and nice to spend time with DDs. Minus husbands and partners, so just us.
Back to work this evening. Feels like ages and I'm looking forward to it!

Peridot1 · 05/12/2022 12:20

Morning all.

Idiot is the word @ChristmasCrackler. He ripped his hands on brambles and nettles so can’t do much as the scrapes open when he tries. Can’t even butter a slice of toast! He did manage to get Christmas stuff in from the garage yesterday and he went up in the attic just now and we got stuff down. I’d say it hurt a lot but he wasn’t going to admit it. DS is here and can help me with heavy stuff although with a long suffering attitude. Bloody men!

We did put the new coffee table together yesterday. Brought Christmas trees in from the garage but I couldn’t assemble them as the skirts/stands were in loft. Can’t do real trees here sadly as I’m allergic. Aiming to get kitchen sitting area tree up and decorated today and kitchen done.

When everything is done I’m going through what is left and bringing to charity shop or junking. We have waaaay too much.

Hooverphobe · 05/12/2022 12:58

@ChristmasCrackler you are too kind and I’ve been idly lurking as I’ve been away.

it wasn’t a great weekend - SEN children, sea sickness (not me thank god), but I had a terrible shock outside my “tightly controlled environment “. I found I couldn’t walk more than a few m without a walking stick, took a tumble and my dad was visibly shocked at how much I’d deteriorated. 😔 I don’t think any of us had known quite how bad it was and he wants me to stop work asap.

Shopping was pants - so much dross in the shops, so much queuing just to pay!

500 mile round trip and I have returned resplendent with M&S socks and pants. 😂 So funny though - 250 miles from home and we ran into so many people we know. Had a couple of lovely meals out but overall very depressing. If I can’t walk around M&S without dragging a rack of clothes to the floor I don’t think I’ll be in the saddle any time soon.

today I have bought a handheld vacuum to tart up the car before its MOT and to do the stairs as I CBA dragging Henry up!

sorry for all the moaning. 😳 I will feel much calmer when puking children go back to school!

Peridot1 · 05/12/2022 13:24

Oh @Hooverphobe I am sorry. It must be hard. I may be telling something you already know but have you looked at the Keto diet? It apparently can help with MS symptoms. There is a section on the MS uk website I think.

WinterLobelia · 05/12/2022 14:06

Thanks @Hooverphobe , you are going through so much. xx

SpiritOfEdna · 05/12/2022 15:26

@Hooverphobe @Peridot1 Flowers and and anyone else who needs them.

so, the weekend, Rug Doctor rented. Did sofa, rug, 2 beds and stairs. The water was filthy!! Courtesy of a dog who loves jumping in puddles and the river; but I love the dog so all good. All look lovely and clean; but oh my, I slept well last night after a long soak in the bath.

B&Q: went back with bike rack, waited patiently for a B&Q guy who was helping some one else, he came back and said in 2 mins that they didn't sell the screws I needed and walked away. I was speechless! I will go to screw station. I've now put all the 4 bikes in one spot, so that all looks marginally better.

Today: I have my eye on 2 cupboard drawers that need tidying - that will be a mindless task to do while watching the football later. Above said dog is snoozing by my feet - she is banned from the sofa today while it dries and she is all muddy from her walk.

petalpower · 05/12/2022 16:37

Sorry things are so hard at the moment @Hooverphobe .
Oh @Peridot1 I’m not surprised you’re very annoyed with your husband.
The rug doctor sounds like it did a good job @SpiritOfEdna . I’ve also got a muddy dog so feel your pain!
Glad you enjoyed the fair and have a lovely wreath @ChristmasCrackler . The command hook wasn’t strong enough to hold my wreath on the door so it’s now fixed on the greenhouse door and looks ok.
Been to visit an elderly family friend today to deliver her Christmas present and then went into town to do some last bits of Christmas shopping. Everything is now bought apart from DD main presents as she hasn’t said what she wants yet. Just waiting to go to the station to pick up DD who is coming back from uni for Christmas. Haven’t seen her since the middle of September so it will be lovely. There is a shepherd’s pie waiting for dinner which is her favourite. She has had a very delayed journey due to overhead signal cables being stolen on the train line and sounds cold, tired and has a snotty cold. In other news our lovely new tv isn’t working - DH tried to update something and now there are no channels at all. He thinks it’s a problem with the satellite dish as we’re in a tricky area. He’s also managed to get an enormous crack across the windscreen and tells me that the main oven switched itself off whilst he was cooking at the weekend and he suspects a problem. Ideal in the lead up to Christmas! Ah well, that’s three things so we should be ok now. Fingers crossed 🤞

RunningKatie · 05/12/2022 17:19

We managed our festive outing! 🚂🎅🎄
It was brilliant, poor ds was dosed up on calpol but had a lovely time. I was so pleased, I think we're on the last Christmas being super magical so I'm taking all the joy where I can.
Sadly then my dad passed away yesterday, but I was there with his wife, and we told lots of funny stories that his wife and her family don't know so lots of snot, tears but laughter too.
I have promised the dc we will decorate the house tonight so dh and I need to go up in the loft.

WinterLobelia · 05/12/2022 17:33

Oh @RunningKatie I am so so sorry to hear about your dad. Thanks

Thinking of you all. xx

Hooverphobe · 05/12/2022 18:05

@RunningKatie i’m so sorry to hear your news. 💐

ChristmasCrackler · 05/12/2022 18:06

Oh my goodness @RunningKatie I'm so sorry to hear about your dad! Lots of love Flowers

And @Hooverphobe tough times! Just please consider yourself hugged. I'm hoping you retain your wonderful sense of humour as you navigate this, and that you get all the help that you need (drugs, support, remission 🤞)
