We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Hello all. Hope everyone is ok.
Freezer has arrived and is much smaller than the old one (presumed DH had looked at dimensions when he ordered it!) and the door opens the wrong way if you know what I mean. Anyway it’s a fully functioning freezer and that’s what matters! It arrived when I was out and DH filled it with the things from the cool boxes - all a bit soggy but only bread and fruit/veg so am going to re-freeze and hope for the best. This morning I need to go to the neighbours and retrieve the other bits and then play freezer tetris. Then taking care home auntie out for lunch with my dad and stepmother who are staying and also DS who is visiting for the weekend. DH also bought a new tv with a good Black Friday deal so there’s been a bit of rejigging of everything. Decided to get rid of the Wii as the children have outgrown it. Now parcelled up to donate to British Heart Foundation, I can drop it at a collect plus point on the way to taking DS to the station later which will be a good job completed.
Have a good day everyone!

Peridot1 · 27/11/2022 09:10

Glad the freezer arrived @petalpower although annoying it’s smaller than you thought.

I like the sound of the Calm Christmas podcast too @MarcelEtCeleste. I don’t normally listen to podcasts but will give it a try.

hope you find the documents @WinterLobelia - say a prayer to St Anthony. Every Irish mammy’s answer to lost things. Failing St Anthony St Jude is patron saint of lost causes - my mother used to say prayers to him when I had exams!

The singing around the piano sounds lovely @Aria999.

I finished the living room yesterday. It looks like a nice relaxing space now rather than a dumping ground. Really pleased with it. Tried the tv in the fireplace as you suggested @Aria999 but DS didn’t like it - he currently uses the room the most. But I think we will move it there for over New Year as we have family coming to stay and it will make sense as we can get more chairs in.

Not sure I will achieve much today as I fell down the stairs earlier and hurt my knee. The lamp in the hallway wasn’t on as the bulb went overnight and I only realised halfway down that it was pitch dark. Was still half asleep. Managed to miss the last step and came down on my knees. So I might just do some online Xmas shopping and maybe write some Xmas cards. It’s jobs from the sofa day.

FireworkFluster · 27/11/2022 09:12

@petalpower I take my hat off to you for your patience and positive attitude. Qualities that stood you in good stead as deputy head I imagine!
Woman down here. Succumbed to the heavy cold that's going round at work, so full of beechams and tucked up with cat. Feels a little like I've swallowed razor blades but first day is always the worst.
Luckily not a work day. Wonderful DH is doing my horse shift for me. He's a keeper. Also saves him getting sneezed on.
I did put a wash on and make breakfast for both of us. And washed up. My mum used to say the kids would get a 24hr bug, husband would get it for 48hrs, and mums would have it for 12, if they had time. So I'm embracing having the time! Might go for 24, as i have work tomorrow.
Hugs all round 💕

FireworkFluster · 27/11/2022 09:15

Awww @Peridot1 we crossed posted! Your poor knee 😔 It's such a shock to fall, isn't it? Hope you're ok. Big hugs (last time i fell down stairs I slipped off the last 2, turned my ankle, and had myself a bit of a cry)

Just found the podcast thanks @MarcelEtCeleste

MarcelEtCeleste · 27/11/2022 10:01

Excellent! @FireworkFluster There’s only one long episode this year but do go back to listen to the last two series. Beth’s voice is so calm and comforting.

Sorry to hear of your injury @Peridot1 I hope you can rest up today. Do have a listen if you get the chance.

FireworkFluster · 27/11/2022 10:09

Thank you again @MarcelEtCeleste Yes I'm listening from the beginning. I agree about the soothing voice ☺

RunningKatie · 27/11/2022 11:59

I have the Calm Christmas book, I'd completely forgotten about that, I think today might be the day to get that down from the shelf.
Brunch was lovely and I bailed early so am not hungover although I am very hungry, I think I sort of missed a meal yesterday but made up for it with excess alcohol.
Hope the documents turn up @WinterLobelia - I lost my original birth certificate years ago, no hope of it turning up but I'm still sad about it.

Happy new freezer day @petalpower, hopefully freezer tetris is a sucess!
Get well soon @FireworkFluster, I've had the awful cold for a week now and am recovering but dh has it now. Clearly so much worse than me already!
@Peridot1, poor knees, stay on the sofa today - it's much safer.

petalpower · 27/11/2022 18:51

Lots of get well and recovery wishes to everyone with illness and injuries! Flowers
Freezer Tetris successful (just!), DS dropped at station and parcel dropped at collect plus site. Lovely family lunch with care home auntie which had the added excitement of her almost getting stuck in the loo as she was wedged behind the cubicle door and couldn’t get off the loo. Fortunately the door wasn’t locked and I could get an arm round and under her arm to give her a hand. Note to self to use the disabled/access facilities in future.

WinterLobelia · 27/11/2022 19:46

Just dropping in to say how much I love this thread and everyone who sails in it.

Thanks all.

Will write more tomorrow.

petalpower · 27/11/2022 20:35

I find it very comforting on here and everyone is so lovely and supportive.

Peridot1 · 27/11/2022 22:13

Agree that is such a lovely thread. And can I just say people shouldn’t feel they need to tag everyone each time and remember what they’ve said. A general comment or whatever is fine too. It’s lovely that we do support so well but sometimes time is short as we know!

Hooverphobe · 28/11/2022 06:17

I’m another one who’s lost her OG birth certificate. Had a brain fart moving house and flung out a bag of paperwork. They were works of art back in the day and the copy most annoyed the foreign registry office where my kids were born. “Vot iz zis? Vy iz zer writing? Vy iz zis not typed?”.

@petalpower well done on both the Tetris AND the old lady rescue mission - and yes, roomy cubicles in the future.

@FireworkFluster poor you and hurrah for the DH and the ponies with their upside down head collars! 😁 I hope you’re well enough for work today.

@Peridot1 your organised living room gives me hope. One day…

My mri is today and frankly I’m looking forward to the lie down and rest and with all the clanging I won’t be able to hear my youngest continue to narrate his life.

it’s been a long, exhausting and upsetting weekend with my ex-H kicking off and police involvement. 😔 This morning I need to let various people know before official reports come out. The children at least recovered very quickly and feel safe and that is everything.

FireworkFluster · 28/11/2022 06:36

Oh @Hooverphobe I'm so sorry about the ex. Much said in a small paragraph there. Best wishes for today. Enjoy the lie down. Thinking of you!
You made me laugh about upside down headcollars. Voice of experience there 😂 He does actually know his way round a pony but said decisions on rugging are above his pay scale...
I've taken a sickie. Actually feel slightly better than yesterday but i know that by mid morning I'd have regretted going in. Plus despite being behind ppe, I don't want to share with anyone. I never normally don't want to go to work but today i really don't!

You lot are my go to on MN. @Peridot1 i think you're right 💐

Peridot1 · 28/11/2022 08:59

Morning all.

That sounds very stressful @Hooverphobe - hope the DCs are ok and hope your mri goes well.

get well soon @FireworkFluster. A day off sounds best.

I’m still hobbling. Knee is fine when straight and fine when bent. It’s the getting from one position to the other that’s the issue! Pretty painful. So frustrating as have so much I want to get done. Did nothing yesterday.

Today DH has promised to be my slave although he wants to do some stuff in the garden first. I can’t do anything that involves bending down.

petalpower · 28/11/2022 11:11

Hope the MRI goes well @Hooverphobe. Sorry to hear you’ve had a difficult time with your ex H.
Get well soon @FireworkFluster
Admin type day here and catching up after a busy weekend. Dad and stepmother are still here until tomorrow morning so entertaining too!

RunningKatie · 28/11/2022 13:23

Just popping in, I am filling dh's car for a charity shop run tomorrow. How does the house still look overrun?!
I've know people who already have their Christmas trees up but I am firmly in the "house must be tidied" first camp. Maybe these people always have tidy homes. I don't need people like that in my life!

Aria999 · 28/11/2022 14:44

@Hooverphobe that sounds bad. Sending hugs. Hope the MRI goes well.

@Peridot1 sorry to hear about your knee. Can you get one of those stretchy tube bandages to support it? Knees can take ages to heal, hope it gets better fast.

DH's birthday today but DD2 is off school with snot and a cough and I am currently with DS1 at his neurology appointment so not quite the festive and relaxing day we were hoping for.

On the plus side the house is mostly tidy for once (DH had a good go at it yesterday, he is a much more effective tidier upper than me).

WinterLobelia · 28/11/2022 15:14

Hi everyone,

@Hooverphobe I hope that today went well and I am so sorry to hear about yuor ex. Glad the police are involved and hugs to you.

@Peridot1 hope your knee is better soon and also you feel better @FireworkFluster .

Thanks to everyone and specially all who are unwell or with ill loved ones. Thanks

The documents have been found!!! I DID say a little prayer to St Anthony this morning, thank you so much @Peridot1 ! I suspect he would have been quite surprised to hear from me!! But the docs have been found. Oddly they were exactly where they were meant to be, even though both DH and I had looked in this spot already separately. It is really odd and I am so so so grateful to have found them now because I was having sleepless nights. They had gotten mis-filed with other stuff so I think we just missed them. They are now in their own separate folder with many MANY identifying labels on them. Phew!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day. Smile

petalpower · 29/11/2022 13:43

Good news that the documents have been found @WinterLobelia !
How are the germs @FireworkFluster ?
Hope the MRI went to plan and you had a safe journey @Hooverphobe .
Hows the knee @Peridot1 ?
Any raccoon news @Aria999 ?
Hi to anyone else I’ve forgotten.
Dad, stepmother and their dog have now gone home so I’m tidying up and sorting out after their visit. Also been to aquafit this morning. This afternoon need to pay a bill online, have a good Hoover and take the glass recycling. Might start to think about Christmas cards.

Aria999 · 29/11/2022 14:00

Excellent news @WinterLobelia ! That's a relief!

@petalpower, animal control company 2 came out today yesterday with the longest ladder I have ever seen. They showed us where the raccoons are getting in and out, under the eaves at back of house. They have blocked most of the holes with long pieces of aluminum and put a trap in the remaining hole, now just have to wait.

Company 1 had not even attempted to block off this area 🤦‍♀️ and it has clearly been going on a long time. Must get round to canceling their 5th December visit.

In other news DD2 has a cold AGAIN so today I will be trying to multi task working, with fielding a 2 year old. I know a lot of people did this throughout covid and hats off to them, I am not good at it.

Peridot1 · 29/11/2022 15:51

I did have a knee brace @Aria999 and it definitely helped. Knee still painful if I move in certain ways but much better than it was. Thanks everyone for asking. I’m going to milk it a while longer and get DH to do things though! Grin

Bloody annoying about the pest control company 1. I’d be having words!

Excellent news about the documents @WinterLobelia! I think that’s the magic of St Anthony - whatever it is is usually found in plain sight where you looked before. I once lost a diamond earring in my bedroom at my parents house and both my mum and I looked separately and together and no sign. Mum prayed to St Anthony and a while later I walked into the bedroom and there the earring was in the middle of the floor. It’s weird!

I have done quite a bit of washing today, put a couple of loads of washing away and made the Christmas cake. It’s in the oven currently and smells amazing.

SpiritOfEdna · 29/11/2022 16:19

can I join in? My job for today has been to re-site two curtain tie backs in the living room. The drill, spirit level have been sitting looking at me for a week. All done, all I need to do is fill in the old holes that were too big! It's very satisfying looking at the very secure tie backs :-) Tonight's job is a trip to B&Q to get some filler to fill in said old holes.

Tomorrow's job is to put down the new floor divider between kitchen and hall and also put up outside a bike rack and then maybe I can move my bike out of the house. Also needs the trip to B&Q for screws and a hacksaw.

petalpower · 29/11/2022 16:26

Welcome @SpiritOfEdna . Sounds like a lot of jobs. Don’t go putting us to shame with your DIY!
I haven’t started the Christmas cards but did put them all in a box together with stamps, card list and address book so I’ll count it as an achievement. Knocked a little plastic widget off the shower surround whilst cleaning the bathroom floor but have glued it back on straight away rather than leaving it on the windowsill. I think that’s enough excitement for one day.

SpiritOfEdna · 29/11/2022 16:30

@petalpower Those tie backs needing fixing for a year! I saw this thread and thought mmmm I could use it for motivation. I am going to read back to get inspiration 😊
