We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

I did ironing today. Do you know, there are people who iron tea towels and socks 🤯 At least i was being paid to do it! And only a few at that.
Any racoon or freezer news?
My spare room is looking less like a jumble sale. Slow but sure! I nearly have a clear work space 😊

Aria999 · 23/11/2022 14:33

The gorilla tape is holding. I may need to rename it raccoon tape.

The original wildlife people can't come until December 5th. I am getting someone else out on Monday. He seems to be charging 1/5th of the price of the first company. I think I attract overpriced companies the same way I attract mosquitoes.

Unfortunately I am also signed up with the first company for 1 year of mouse protection so I can't completely bin them off right away.

It's hard not to feel sorry for the raccoons (everyone who removes them will kill them) but I have spent the last few days reading up on how raccoon poop can kill you so I need to be heartless.

WinterLobelia · 23/11/2022 15:21

Aaaahhh @Aria999 how sad. That is hard. But I guess if there was an alternative then that is what they would do. It's hard though.

@FireworkFluster I iron teatowels! Grin Blush Grin However this has to be caveated that I am a rubbish ironer and teatowels are satisfyingly rectangular and easy. (Plus I always iron with wine and after a certain amount of time and given the right circumstances I am not entirely sure if I would notice I was ironing the cat).

All whinges allowed @petalpower sometimes the sheer grinding of life gets us all down. And ailing loved ones is such a difficult and painful time. Thanks I really am thinking of you.

Not alot of news here. I rearranged some furniture in the DCs room so they can have accessible bedside table lamps and it is one of those tiny little things that has made a big difference.

Peridot1 · 23/11/2022 16:23

I have never ironed socks but I may have been guilty of ironing tea towels in the past. And bedding. I even bought an extra large ironing board to make it a bit easier to iron duvet covers on. Madness. I don’t bother now.

Annoying indeed about the raccoon company @Aria999. And sad that they will be exterminated but I suppose they are vermin and they can do so much damage.

It’s the little things that make such a difference @WinterLobelia. Accessible bedside lights are one of life’s musts.

I have been pottering along at sorting the living room and landing area. DH reckons I’m transferring stuff into any cleared space in his study. But I did take stuff out of the study too!

Also took three bags of clothing to the charity boxes today while I was going to an appointment. And yesterday I cleared off the top of a small sideboard which had become a dumping ground. It looks much nicer now.

Tomorrow I’m going to do some more of the living room rearranging, buy a new lamp for the landing, pack up some books for charity and maybe tidy out the games cupboard in the study.

petalpower · 23/11/2022 17:17

Thank you @Peridot1 and @WinterLobelia - you’re very kind listening to my moans and groans. Feeling a bit more ‘up and at ‘em’ today. DH is away for work for a couple of days so I was extremely lazy this morning and sat on the sofa watching tv with a cup of tea. This afternoon I went to a local secure dog walking field with fellow local dog walkers which was lovely. The sun came out and my dog had a fantastic run about with the other dogs. In freezer news I’m going to a neighbour’s this evening as she has an empty freezer drawer for my use. Hoping it’s a huge drawer!!
What a nuisance about the raccoon people @Aria999 .
Good to see you back @RunningKatie !
I iron tea towels but not socks @FireworkFluster . Did some ironing today so the basket is now empty - very satisfying.
A bit worried that @Hooverphobe seems to be missing in action. I hope they’re ok as I remember health and pain issues.

RunningKatie · 23/11/2022 18:26

My MIL has been known to iron my pants before. I was horrified, dh thinks it's hilarious. I now hide the ironing basket and the washing if they ever come around.
We now have stairs carpet, it is so amazing. We all love it, apart from ddog who views the whole thing with suspicion.

Hope the freezer drawer is tardis like @petalpower

petalpower · 23/11/2022 19:36

Freezer drawer was smaller than expected @RunningKatie but other neighbours have more space than I thought and two big cool boxes with ice packs and one electric cool box so things are looking up freezer-wise!

Aria999 · 24/11/2022 13:01

Happy thanksgiving!

Lol @WinterLobelia I think the cat would let you know (if you were ironing it)! I need to get DS a bedside lamp, I borrowed one from the spare room for him but he doesn't like it. What kind do you have?

Good luck with the freezer rearrangement @petalpower !

Yay stair carpet @RunningKatie that sounds like a step in the right direction (see what I did there)

I have taken DS to the doctors twice this week and he has a neurologist appointment on Monday. Recurring sharp headaches that he has been having for a while but got worse recently. Fingers crossed it is nothing sinister, I was a bit surprised how fast they got us a neurologist appointment.

Yesterday, tidied, cleaned and dusted the living room and downstairs hall. Today need to do the second floor. Post bathroom contractors, everything is covered in a conspicuous layer of dust, including the bottles of soap in the bathroom cupboard.

Peridot1 · 24/11/2022 13:20

Hi all.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate.

I was thinking of @Hooverphobe too @petalpower and hoping she is ok.

glad you got your freezer stuff sorted.

welcome back @RunningKatie.

Hope DS is ok @Aria999. My DS went through a phase of daily migraines and had an MRI to rule out anything sinister. It was worrying because of course you fear the worst. DS’s turned out to be stress related.

I’m feeling a bit lazy today. I have pulled all the cushions off the sofa I sit on and vacuumed it. I have bad allergies and I’m constantly sneezing at the moment. Figured dust might be contributing. Have the other sofa to do and the scatter cushions. And I’ll move a few bits around in the living room. That might be it for me for today.

Aria999 · 24/11/2022 13:38

@Peridot1 we are supposed to book an MRI too but the first available one is February!

It could be because they said did he need sedation and I said actually yes, I might see if they can do something sooner without it (though it might be a fiasco as DS is not brilliant at staying still).

Hooverphobe · 24/11/2022 16:01

I’ve been AWOL because I’ve not done anything in the way of jobs - except booking in for getting carpets measured up and finding leverage (finally) to convince my youngest to tidy his room.

ive got my MRI Monday which obviously is brilliant after the wait, BUT - it’s an after 5 appointment which means driving home 50 miles in the dark when I’m shattered. At least the journey is broken up by a ferry ride. 😂

@petalpower i hope you get your results soon and that it’s nothing “worse” than what you’re already dealing with.

I can’t remember who was asking about the seal, but I’ve not heard anything about him lately. We’ve had big storms and it’s pup season for the grey seals and they’ve taken a battering. One poor little mite was found 600m (!) from the sea up a steep hill. He was taken to the sanctuary for a long sleep in a heated mat.

I’ve finished the Xmas shopping and now I have to wrap the bastard stuff.

petalpower · 24/11/2022 17:15

Thank you @Hooverphobe - my results are at the end of December. It should show if my heart is stable or if it’s got any worse. Sounds like it MRIs are us on this thread! Glad you’re ok, do you favour carrot or stick to persuade your youngest? It was me asking about the seal. Poor little pup, but a long sleep in a heated mat sounds cosy.
Hope your DS feels better soon @Aria999 . My house is also covered in dust but I don’t have the excuse of having contractors in!
Today I’ve finished moving the food out of the old freezer and taking it to lovely neighbours or putting it in cool boxes and crossing my fingers. New freezer arrives tomorrow afternoon. I’ve also been out for lunch for a friend’s birthday, sorted out all tax paperwork to scan and send to the accountant for care home auntie and moved my husband’s suitcase which has been sat on the spare bed since coming back from Italy at the end of September. I thought it just needed moving and putting away but it still contained various holiday detritus that the lazy so and so hadn’t put away.

RunningKatie · 24/11/2022 19:38

Today I've been working on a very boring spreadsheet so have had to move every so often before I go cross eyed. Every break I've put some "thing" away, nothing much but our bedroom so quickly becomes a dumping zone and the opposite of a relaxing space.
Got some Christmas presents sorted although dc2 has tried adding to his list tonight and I fear its already reached budget capacity.

Aria999 · 25/11/2022 01:40

@RunningKatie I love spreadsheets ☺️ though if it's just data entry I sympathize

Hooverphobe · 25/11/2022 09:55

@petalpower i tried the carrot. I removed his TV from his room. I banned all devices and he shrugged and did crafts instead which I prefer 🤬 I said he couldn’t get a new carpet unless the guys could get into his room to measure it - he shrugged. I bought a new duvet cover and said I’d put it in if I could access his bed…

eventually I found the stick! He’s supposed to be having Xmas with his dad who showers him in expensive gadgets (but won’t put his hand in his pocket for shoes… ) - anyway, much to my surprise he says he’d rather stay with me - so, that’s my stick! 😂

I’ve just found a bag of PE kit in the hall and no PE kits have passed through my washing basket in a fortnight. Honestly, I’m trying to raise them to be responsible citizens and refuse to send them out into the world on to unsuspecting women, but it’s an uphill battle. Obviously, I left the bag of kit where I found it!

Peridot1 · 25/11/2022 10:11

Morning all.

glad you are ok @Hooverphobe. Sounds like you have been doing stuff. Booking things in is getting stuff done in my book! I hear you on the trials of getting DC to do stuff. DS is 21 and his bedroom is normally a disaster zone. We now have a friend of his staying with us every week for a night or two and that seems to have triggered DS into tidying his room before his friend comes. DS is unfortunately really difficult to ‘persuade’ into doing anything he’s not bothered about.

happy new freezer day @petalpower!

I ended up doing a bit more than planned yesterday. More living room sorting out. Have identified some pictures that could go up on walls in there so they are ready to go. Today I will also remove extra things that don’t fit in the room. We moved the coffee table/footstool out yesterday to see what it looked like in the sitting area off the kitchen to get an idea of size we want there so that will go back today. It will get sold eventually as it’s not right for this house really. Might order a coffee table for kitchen sitting area today.

Today I need to nip to Tesco and the farm shop. It’s DH’s birthday so I’m cooking.

Also need to book in a handyman to do some jobs DH is not keen on. Change DS’s bed. General washing and putting away.

have a good day all.

petalpower · 25/11/2022 20:11

Freezer news - it’s been delayed until tomorrow. I’m very cross. Lots of food slowly defrosting in the garage for 48 hours. DH in charge for delivery as I’m out at a rehearsal tomorrow afternoon and then in a concert. Hmmm …

FireworkFluster · 26/11/2022 10:06

Morning! Happy Saturday ☺
You've all had your hands full! So much going on
Lovely to see @RunningKatie and @Hooverphobe back with us!

@Aria999 best wishes for your little boy 💐

I've chased up CT scan results with no luck. Was told 1-2 weeks and it's been longer than that. Nhs is so frustrating. Big loves to everyone going through the same.

Happy birthday Mr @Peridot1

Batch cook day here today. What else.....?
Maybe write Christmas cards. Which I've probably said before. I like getting things ready before Dec if poss so I can pretend Christmas isn't happening relax during December (grinch alert!)

RunningKatie · 26/11/2022 11:21

I'm sitting with a coffee, just waiting for the dc to finish their Saturday club. Then home, quick hair brush and off out again for a festive bottomless brunch. Frankly, I'd rather be at home in my pyjamas under a blanket but have to show willing! It'll be fine once I'm there i'm sure!
Sorry about the freezer delay @petalpower
Good luck with the Christmas cards @FireworkFluster - ours are still in the loft, planning to get up there tomorrow. We did receive our first card on Wednesday, someone is super organised!

MarcelEtCeleste · 26/11/2022 11:37

Good morning (just!)

I’ve had a slow start as I’ve had a sick child at home this week and I woke up definitely feeling the bug setting in - rats!

I’ve made the usual weekend pancakes and sorted a clothes order/returns that needed processing. Apart from making a couple of meals and putting the week’s washing away, I’m not sure I’ll get round to much more today, although writing Christmas cards is a good idea! @FireworkFluster

I’m now sitting with a cup of tea listening to Beth Kempton’s Calm Christmas podcast, which is a new annual tradition for me, much like reading Nigel Slater’s The Christmas Chronicles.

I do love weekends at this time of year. 😊

Peridot1 · 26/11/2022 11:55

Morning all.

what a pain about the freezer @petalpower. Hope it arrives eventually.

Today’s jobs here are to brush the dog - she is shedding like anything and I’m allergic. I’ve vacuumed the living room after her shedding all over it last night.

Then pictures up in living room, random bits removed and maybe windows cleaned and then that room is ready for Xmas decorations. But not till December.

may also start Christmas cards. Also want to put an advent candle wreath thingie together for tomorrow. Not sure if everything is in the loft though in which case that won’t be happening.

Aria999 · 26/11/2022 12:47

Hope the freezer arrives today @petalpower !

@MarcelEtCeleste that's never fun. Hope you are all better soon. DD2 is also snotting like a river again this morning. We have had at least two months of this with one or two days off in between each new phase.

Thanks @FireworkFluster . Fingers crossed, DS has had a couple of days without headaches. We will need to see if Kung fu brings them on again this morning.

Have fun at brunch @RunningKatie!

Yesterday I ordered the Christmas tree, advent calendars, and a digital piano which will be a shared early Christmas present for me and DS. Very excited about it though if past form is anything to go on I will not actually play it much when it is here. Also ordered some sheet music as mine is all in MIL and FIL's attic in the uk, including a book of Christmas carols so maybe we can sing round the piano!

People have started asking what the kids want for Christmas. I don't have a clue this year so will need to think fast.

WinterLobelia · 26/11/2022 14:01

Hi all, sorry been a bit awol.

Hope everyone is okay and that all families are okay with MRIs and other tests quickly received and all clear. Thanks

Not alot of news except that we have somehow lost very important documents and have turned the house upside down. I am not at all sure what has happened. It is really stressing me out. I think there is a chance DH has thrown them out accidentally because he recently 'sorted' our document cabinet and no-one else has been in it. He's been forgetful lately. Other than that which needs to be sorted urgently not alot is going on.

Today is a day for taking the Dcs to separate parties and playdates this afternoon then I think back to document hunting.

I hope everyone is well.

Aria999 · 26/11/2022 14:23

Oh no @WinterLobelia good luck finding them!

Last time that happened to us it turned out we had somehow created a duplicate Important Documents file in the filing cabinet and the original one had fallen down under the other files.

I did also once throw away my original birth certificate as it was in a plastic filing box I had lost the key to, I couldn't remember what was in it and decided it was probably nothing important 🤦‍♀️

FireworkFluster · 26/11/2022 18:02

Hope your bottomless brunch was fun and tasty @RunningKatie !
@MarcelEtCeleste the podcast sounds interesting. Going to look it up!
@WinterLobelia i do hope you find the missing things. How frustrating and stressful!
Oh singing round the piano @Aria999 what a lovely image!
