We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Thank heavens for bathroom completion @Aria999 🥳 Seems I missed something about a dead mouse! Best of luck with that! I hope the excitement has helped you feel better ☺

@Peridot1 horses are dangerous at both ends and tricky in the middle so you are very wise! Sadly my mum got me addicted as a very small child and I see no way out....
Your time with your friend sounds really lovely 💕
@petalpower YY to fridge cleaning! Impressed!! That might be my thing for today as past self made our dinner already. So proud! I'm desperate to know what your weekly exercise class is. I attempted (one time only!) a tai chi class but it was beyond me. I'm not one for learning things in groups so I bought a dvd which is now gathering dust.
@HooverPhobe does your force 10 have a name or does it count as a gentle breeze?
My dressage judging was generally comments such as 'a little wobbly up centre line', 'oops left arena' etc, and getting out of the car to reassure weeping 10year olds. As a competitor there were a few successes and some memorable insults. Favourite was a 4 for position and seat of rider with 'ineffective rider' when I was sitting quietly on a very explosive one (crisp packet incident type) and just delighted that we'd completed the test alive (and actually quite well) I'd have preferred ' tactfully ridden' 😂
I hope you get sorted and fit to ride again 💐

petalpower · 16/11/2022 21:43

I’ve never felt like going anywhere near a horse either @Peridot1 . Too big and scary and also quite expensive to own I gather!
Its probably very outing @FireworkFluster but my activity is aquafit which I really enjoy although I think they’ve turned the thermostat down on the pool recently.

FireworkFluster · 17/11/2022 06:29

I heard there'll be turning down the thermostat on out local pool too. Ok for the speedy swimmers but i imagine they will lose the people who want to potter about, if they overdo the cooling effect. Aqua fit does look like fun. I'm sorry i outed you @petalpower
It's still raining here! We had a nice sunny interlude on Monday then it's done nothing but rain.
I need to batch cook this afternoon. Every time we eat something I made earlier, I get a warm smug feeling. Not one for cooking then eating. Yesterday I was very weary and took to my bed with a cat and a book , and had my dinner presented to me there, which was unexpected and very nice. Decadent and probably slovenly, but I'm a rebel so I don't care! I never did clean the fridge, but I did do the washing up.
Hope you all have a lovely day and nobody gets blown away (esp @Hooverphobe and her crew, for whom it it probably more likely)

Hooverphobe · 17/11/2022 06:51

@Peridot1 gah so envious! I keep threatening the kids with a Thai holiday for the food’s sake alone. I was very apprehensive about taking the kids long-haul as a single mum, but a friend did it a few years back and had a great time.

@Aria999 congratulations on the doing away with workmen and mice. Will their departure lend itself to 100 new jobs in terms of decorating/organising?

@FireworkFluster No name. Just November. I wonder if it’s not got a name because it’s come from the north/east rather than the Caribbean? We’ve been cut off from the mainland for a couple of days and there aren’t even inter-island ferries running. And THIS is why everyone has a few months food at home… even those who are physically able to get to Tesco right now will find it looks like swarms of locusts passed through. One island is also without electricity and the engineers can’t get there until Friday. That’s rough!

@petalpower why are cooler pools such an affront to the senses when wild swimming isn’t? 🤷‍♀️

petalpower · 17/11/2022 09:23

That’s ok @FireworkFluster . I could have ignored your question if I wanted to!
Yesterday I had also pre-prepared a smug fish pie as I went on a shopping day with a friend. When I got home it was all ready as DH had put it in the oven. Not much done on the jobs at home front but I did buy a few more stocking presents for the children and also did a big clothes shop for care home auntie. She can’t manage buttons now and needs more easy pull on clothes that also cope with the industrial washers and dryers at the home. Out for a cup of tea with a friend this morning then back home to catch up later. Drizzly and miserable here but not too windy. Have a good day all.

WinterLobelia · 17/11/2022 10:17

Morning all!

stuck at home with 2 Dcs who seem to have D&V. (although now mostly D) These are the times when i am so grateful for wfh as they are tucked up in bed sipping tea and I can still get on with things. One of them has just asked for a bacon sandwich so I think is definitely on the mend!

I need to squeeze in a load of washing. And ironing later when I finish work. The Dcs have very generously decided to delay a planned Harry Potter film for my benefit so I can iron in front of the tv which I think might actually be my main hobby nowadays.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Peridot1 · 17/11/2022 16:48

Sympathies for the d&v @WinterLobelia - hope you escape it. You’ve reminded me I quite like ironing in front of the tv so I’m going to plan that for Saturday. I will re wash the linen items in the ironing basket in the morning and hang them up and then iron in the afternoon while they are still damp.

I made a bit of progress on my landing project today. Emptied the cupboard of books and have sorted into a pile to go and a much larger pile to keep. Also moved everything else from that area into the spare room to make it easier to access the cupboard so we can move it. The cupboard is going into the other spare bedroom which a friend of DS’s stays in a couple of nights a week so I just need him to move some of his things around tonight and we can hopefully move the cupboard tomorrow. Need to dust it all too.

I also sorted through a blue ikea bag of stuff DS had brought from his uni house in the summer. Now have a nice neatish box of stationary bits to go somewhere. Lots of lovely coloured pens and pencils. I do like nice stationary.

I feel like I’m getting somewhere again with the house after a long break of not getting much done as to-ing and fro-ing to Ireland so much.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/11/2022 18:23

Ugh... need to clean a closet and sort the room. Very overdue chore. Did toss some old clothes... but from a different closet. Feeling quite unmotivated.

Aria999 · 17/11/2022 19:37

@Hooverphobe I had hoped so but this morning, most of the lights in that bathroom stopped working 🤦‍♀️

I think it was the contractors but I can't prove it and we don't really want them trying to fix it, so I need to get the electrician in...

And yes there is also more decorating to be done.

Aria999 · 17/11/2022 19:38

@WinterLobelia oh no!
Hope everyone is better soon, and that you don't catch it

FireworkFluster · 18/11/2022 06:31

Morning all! Hello again @Mumtobabyhavoc nice to see you 😊 If your user name is descriptive of your life then surviving each day sane and fed counts as a win. You can sort out your closet one item at a time! I had three rug rats and my tip looking back is to own as little as possible to keep life manageable.

Hope kids are feeling better and hope you've escaped the bug @WinterLobelia What charming children, to save the film to watch with their mum 💕
You have your hands full @Aria999 good luck with it all!
@Peridot1 fellow stationery lover here though I have to limit myself. I'm going to write some Christmas cards today. I will be sending them this year to use up my stamp supply. Something about bar coded ones next year I think. I bought some festive stickers to go on the envelopes too, because I was out with dd and she made me do it! Have fun with your landing project!

@petalpower your lovely posts soothe my soul and @Hooverphobe as ever, you make me laugh!
Right, breakfast 🥣

Best wishes to all Flowers

petalpower · 18/11/2022 08:50

What a lovely thing to say @FireworkFluster , thank you.
I keep meaning to ask if there’s any news on the seal you mentioned a couple of weeks ago @Hooverphobe ?
Hope everyone else is ok.
I’m planning a busy catch up sort of day. Lots of small (and large) jobs to tick off the list.

Peridot1 · 18/11/2022 08:58

@Mumtobabyhavoc it’s very hard when you have little ones. So hard to get motivated. And stay motivated! (Or is that just me?). But thanks to this thread I have found that the little bits DO add up and eventually it all comes together. And I sometimes find if I do one little job it motivates me to do a bit more.

@Aria999 - nightmare re the lights! Hope you get sorted quickly.

@FireworkFluster - I wasn’t going to do Xmas cards this year but I managed to buy some and have stamps so I suppose I may as well! Some anyway.

Today’s plan here is a Costco trip this morning and I will soak the fruit for the Christmas cake. Then continue with the landing. Although DS claims he’s too busy to help with moving the cupboard. We will see about that!

have a good day everyone.

petalpower · 18/11/2022 17:26

I had a real burst of energy type of day and managed to achieve lots. Chased the useless Inland Revenue who have had care home auntie’s power of attorney document for 5 months now and still haven’t registered me as LPA. Managed to speak to a lovely lady who is trying to escalate it. Also emailed solicitors and accountants, hoovered my car, changed DS bed, froze the whole chillis from my plant and moved the plant to the greenhouse (not sure it will survive but it’s annnoying me in the utility room so it can take it’s chances), chased the music shop where I’m trying to sell 3 instruments, went to the greengrocers and butchers (including shopping for my neighbour), dropped off neighbours shopping and some roses for her birthday, spoke to uni daughter about her meal planning (she has a long-standing eating disorder) and firmed up some Christmas and new year plans with a friend and my stepmother. Tonight I’d really like to sit on the sofa watching crap tv and drinking wine but we need to go to a talk in the village hall and be good community supporting citizens!

FireworkFluster · 18/11/2022 18:59

@Peridot1 I couldn't help myself because some of the Christmas cards have such cute designs! I'll only send a few. Recollections of my parents slogging over card writing. They were a very socially active pair and sent and received around 300 when they were my age. Mum still gets more cards than the rest of us put together.
It's amazing how busy young adults can be when they don't want to do something isn't it? Hope you do get help with the bookcase!

@petalpower you have achieved loads! Thoughts and prayers to you at the talk. I'm picturing the village of Dibley. Absolutely not my kind of thing! Well done ( I concluded that my job classes as my social contribution so I'm off the hook) Sounds like a tiring but rewarding day.

Hugs all round ☺

Aria999 · 18/11/2022 20:18

Wow @petalpower all in one day!

Yesterday I packed up the old Verizon router and sent it back (they had supplied it free but it turned out that was only for 3 years, then they charge you monthly). The process for sending it back is obscure and convoluted. You would almost think they want you to have to keep it and pay them rental...

Next I found a whole new shopping area really near us that I had never been to before, bought birthday presents for DH and (as the chocolate shop lady had popped out for 5 minutes) took shelter from the cold in a nearby toy shop and emerged with a bag full of stocking fillers. As you do. And afterwards I found a shop selling surprisingly affordable alpaca scarfs.

Today, took DS6 to his Not Being Violent therapy assessment (he has been on the waitlist for over a year so is now a bit old for the course he was originally referred to, but it sounds like they will offer him something).

And have just got back from the grocery store. Next need to pack snacks, pick up kids, and take DS6 for his Kung fu belt test. I was meant to be having mine directly afterwards but my babysitter has a migraine, DH is on a work trip, and someone needs to watch DD2 ☹️

DS6 is off all week next week for thanksgiving so that's probably the end of productiveness for a while.

petalpower · 18/11/2022 21:47

Are you in the US @Aria999 ?

Aria999 · 18/11/2022 22:02

Yes @petalpower been out here nearly 7 years.

Still miss British supermarkets!

petalpower · 18/11/2022 22:54

I thought that you were from your posts @Aria999 ! Where are you in the USA? Shall we send British supplies?

Aria999 · 19/11/2022 00:45

Pittsburgh. East coast, about 600 miles west of New York. Previously in Los Angeles, we moved just before covid and therefore have no friends.

You could picket the headquarters of hotel chocolat for me, in protest at them shutting down their US website 😩

But otherwise it's mostly perishables (bacon, sausages, bread) or things I can order on Amazon (marmite)

FireworkFluster · 19/11/2022 06:24

Sending things back can be such a PITA @Aria999 so I feel your pain! I too popped into a shop for one thing yesterday having bought a bagful of stuff.
I hope your son's assessment turns out to be productive. These things seem to take so long don't they? Our family is currently waiting for/pushing for various things at the moment. We have one that has a 48 week waiting list. Another was diagnosed abroad and the 'proof' was 'lost' so it needs to happen all over again.
We have sunshine this weekend! Apparently- not light yet obviously. At least it's stopped raining. Local flooding was on the news last night! It looked bad!

WinterLobelia · 19/11/2022 07:37

Good morning!!

@Aria999 I am feeling expat envy here. i would dearly love to live in the US for a bit.
I hope your DS's assessment goes really well. Thanks

That was a very productive day @petalpower !

I am also writing christmas cards this year in the bid to use up the royal mail stamps. Usually I write to only the people who will miss them otherwise but this year it will be toe everyone.

DCs are fine and over their D&V. back at school Monday. I am hoping to persuade them that the cinema and pizza hut might be a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon but they are both very much less keen on these sorts of ideas than I am!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Peridot1 · 19/11/2022 08:38

Morning all.

Great achievements @petalpower. And I too have expat envy @Aria999 - I’ve lived in four countries as an expat but never managed the US. Six families we knew from our last posting moved to the US and have all settled there permanently now.

I did manage to get the bookcase moved yesterday and I have reloaded it with books. Also have a pile of books to get rid of and have joined a local pre-loved books FB page which raises money for charity so I’ll hopefully donate them to that this week. Also did a Costco shop with DH. And soaked the fruit for my Christmas cake.

First stage of emptying the ironing basket today is happening - all the shirts are being rewashed and I’m planning on ironing them this afternoon while watching a Christmas movie. The next stage of operation Landing will also take place which involves moving a long narrow table from the living room up to the landing. I need to clear it off first and move out all the stuff that is underneath it. I realised yesterday that there are two boxes under it from when we moved in two years ago. I THINK they are pictures.

cinema and Pizza Hut sounds good to me @WinterLobelia - where shall I meet you? Grin

Aria999 · 19/11/2022 12:36

Today's exciting development is that we have squirrels (or some kind of animal) coming through the roof. We have seen a nose and (pictured) some butt fur but not enough for a firm ID.

<adds to list, 'call wildlife control when they open'>

share.icloud.com/photos/09cjXbE7uH34aTsmka2r_OB3g

petalpower · 19/11/2022 13:04

That looks a bit hairy for a squirrel @Aria999 . Hope the wildlife control people catch it and any of it’s little friends!
I’m up for pizza and cinema too @WinterLobelia ! We could have a group outing!
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers for our village hall talk @FireworkFluster ! It ended up being better than expected and there was wine involved which helps most situations I always think.
No chance of repeating yesterday’s achievements today. Had a fairly quiet morning. This afternoon will be taking all the new clothes to care home auntie and having a bit of a try on session if she’s up to it. This will need to be followed by name labelling everything before coming home for wine, strictly and I’m a Celeb in front of the log burner. Grey and drizzly again here.
