Daily Project - Round Two!

We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Thank you @FireworkFluster , I try to be thoughtful and look after people.
I don’t know where the days go sometimes. I’m not sure how I ever had time to work back in the day. It makes my head spin to think that I used to be a deputy head working full time, had two children and DH worked away 5 days a week, was chair of governors at a different school to the one I worked in and was staff governor at work. My life is very different now.

I like the sound of your current life! One of my family is a head of year. I don't know how she does it! I've never had those kind of organisational skills. And as for children en masse...I take my hat off to all teachers. I only like them one at a time (children not teachers)
My life is quite a lot like yours except I get paid to look after other people's aunties. And I absolutely love it!

I'm enjoying all your posts but gotta go...in charge of horses this morning. Agree though @Hooverphobe about the utter, utter bastards 😂
@WinterLobelia I vow to find my dining room table today in solidarity. It's barely been used for it's original purpose since DH has been working from home. It's only got a laptop and various papers and scribbles but he says he doesn't want to eat in the office.
I accidentally changed by name back 🤦‍♀️

Oh @Peridot1 your description of your village green working party was so wonderfully evocative! It just sounds so wonderful and cosy and - happy.

@FireworkFluster our marsh road gets flooded ALOT as well. There are old fisherman shacks which have been titivated and sold as mostly holiday homes for stupid money- circa £500 k of stupid money (!) and I can never understand it as they are flooded certainly a few times every year. It must be heartbreaking to buy a lovely seaside home to discover that for several months a year it is an in-the-sea home.

Hope your day with the horses goes well. I am very envious. Smile.

Photobooks are on my to do list as well@Hooverphobe . Seals on the verge! I LOVE that. How wonderful. Smile

@petalpower I also like the sound of your current life!

My dining room aim was abandoned because I was watching The Crown (which I love for many reasons, but one of which is the decor) and I was busily looking for decoration tips. Our landing is quite small but I was inspired by the Crown and dragged a little turkish rug from the loft out and laid it out. Added a small velvet chair and an old Victorian tiered table that has been cluttering up another room and a little brass lamp with a pleated cream lampshade. It is now a little reading nook and there is still enough room to drag the hoover around it and move up and down the stairs. DH came back from seeing a friend of his and exclaimed with delight at how it looked and i confess I keep going and sitting there with no small measure of pleasure.

Dining room today I hope. Plus yesterday i failed to wash all the school clothes so that is today as well and hope they dry by tomorrow.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone!

WinterLobelia · 13/11/2022 08:55

*several times a year, not several months.

Peridot1 · 13/11/2022 09:15

@WinterLobelia - it was a lovely morning. Our neighbour has taken over the village tidy up crew and he is very enthusiastic. DH is now aching in areas he didn’t know he had though!

we are a bit slow here this morning as we had the neighbours in for dinner last night.

Your landing project sounds lovely. I have a landing project to do but I’m putting it off as it involves moving a large cupboard full of books so I need to empty that first. That will go into a spare bedroom. Then an alter table will go into the space the cupboard was with a lamp and some other bits. We lived in Asia for a few years and the idea is to make it a sort of Asian corner. Moving the altar table will also free up space in the living room and mean I can get that room sorted. I keep putting it all off though. May attempt it this week. Have a friend coming to stay tomorrow for two nights so will wait till she has gone before doing it.

Today I need to walk the dog, get the kitchen sorted after last night, do some tidying on the patio. And get the smell of roast lamb out of the house. But first breakfast.

WinterLobelia · 13/11/2022 15:08

OOOh an Asian corner sounds wonderful @Peridot1 . How lovely!

FireworkFluster · 13/11/2022 17:42

@Peridot1 i missed the bit about the community clean up. How fabulous!
@@WinterLobelia I love the sound of your landing project!
Currently looking around our little spare room in despair. Piled high with boxes from an offspring who currently has no room for them at home. As is the way of clutter, it seems to have attracted more (of mine) so my tender dreams of my own personal workspace are on hold till that is sorted.

But I did spend several happy hours playing in the mud etc at the stables so I'm feeling happily weary. Just got to sort work kit and clothes then that's me for the day!

FireworkFluster · 14/11/2022 06:30

Morning all! Another Monday already. Love to all 💐

Peridot1 · 14/11/2022 08:45

Morning all. A grey foggy one here.

Busy day for me. Friend arriving this afternoon so need to get sorted for that. Cleaners usually come on a Wednesday but they let me down last week so are coming today instead. So I need to get spare room ready for them to clean, general tidy of the house and a quick supermarket shop which I’ll combine with dropping a couple of bags to the charity boxes in the supermarket car park. Then I need to start cooking dinner. And then pick friend up from the staton. I’m very excited as I haven’t seen her for about ten years. Which is ridiculous.

Have a great day all.

WinterLobelia · 14/11/2022 15:36

Hello!

Mud and horses. sigh. Glorious.

Have a lovely time with your friend @Peridot1 !

My landing is giving me alot of pleasure. Yesterday I also replaced a tatty old paper lampshade (just why did we even have that? No idea.) with a beautiful palest yellow pleated fabric one. Thank you Mr Dunelm. I rearranged a coffee table as well and our sitting room is ever so much more cosy.

Today I have not done much for the house but did spend my lunchbreak sorting out medical stuff for DS1.

Aria999 · 14/11/2022 16:05

Sounds lovely @WinterLobelia !

Enjoy your day @Peridot1 !

I have fallen off the productivity charts altogether today. It's supposed to be my day off but DS6 is off school and the house is STILL full of bathroom contractors (please let this be the last day) so my options for doing useful things are limited and I feel really tired (possibly immune system is at war with germs from the kids), DD2 has been ill for days but is mostly better so I sent her to school today.

So I am hiding upstairs in the spare room trying to summon up the energy to do some paid work, to get ahead for the week, but so far failing.

I really miss the ability to be alone in the house. It has been weeks!

WinterLobelia · 14/11/2022 16:19

Hi @Aria999 I sympathise having the house full with contractors, especially when you are feeling unwell!

I hope this is the last day and you have your home to yourself again. Hope also that you are all feeling better soon.

petalpower · 14/11/2022 17:00

Thank you @WinterLobelia and @FireworkFluster - I think I have a really lovely life most of the time. I wish I hadn’t got the heart issue which meant I stopped work but try to make the most of every day and appreciate that I have a lovely family, we Iive in a beautiful area and have no money worries. I have a lot to be thankful for.
Today has been quite productive. I’ve got a shopping day out with a friend on Wednesday so have made a fish pie for dinner on that day that DH can whack in the oven so it’s ready on my return. Weeded the vegetable garden and pulled out a load of potatoes that I must have missed when I harvested the crop. Ordered birthday cards for January to April, posted concert tickets to a friend who’d asked for some, arranged to see a different friend for coffee later this week and did a mending session (dog beds where he’s been throwing them around and husband’s jumper that the moths have had a go at).
From what you said you must work as a carer of some type @FireworkFluster . I take my hat off to you. Carers are so under appreciated.
Hope everyone has had a good day!

FireworkFluster · 15/11/2022 08:34

How lovely to see an old friend after all that time @Peridot1 I hope you have a lovely time!
Mud and horses are something that either run in your blood, or don't @WinterLobelia , do you agree? I've taken the occasionashort break but always get back to it. Very windy today which I find exhilarating. Love being out in it!
@Aria999 sympathies from me too! You really have your hands full with what's going on. I hope you can get a proper rest very soon to let your batteries and immune system recharge. Hugs and 🍵 and Cake for you in the meantime.
🖐 @Hooverphobe I hope you are ok!

@petalpower I'm sorry that it was ill health that drove you to early retirement and I truly hope your current lifestyle feels as happy as it sounds! I am a care worker in the community which I absolutely love. Ticks all the boxes for me and I've met so many wonderful people (colleagues and clients) Helps that I'm in a position to choose to do it (and pick my hours) I don't take that privilege lightly.

@WinterLobelia your homely- home-making skills leave me inspired! And that Asian inspired corner - sorry I'm not sure if that was @Peridot1 or @petalpower

Waving to @outoftimeagain and @RunningKatie too, and anyone I've missed!

Hooverphobe · 15/11/2022 09:04

Ha! If you like the wind @FireworkFluster you’d love it here. 😂 although carrying full haynets and closing barn doors at 70mph does tend to lose its appeal after a while… speaking of ludicrous winds - my eldest is a Coat Refuser which makes me look like a dreadful parent as he flew off to the bus this morning without…

I’ve taken possession of some good storage baskets to throw people’s belongings into. Sadly after removing all the crap from the stairs, I’ve come face to face with enormous dust-bunnies. The robot doesn’t do stairs… boo!

I’m struggling with work again and woke up with searing pain. I bought some ahem medical cannabis online in edible format and I just daren’t as I’m off to get my hair done later. I mean no, we don’t have police - but I don’t want to have to find a farmer to drag me out of a ditch!

I think we’ve lost @RunningKatie - she’s either still running or trapped under a pile of post-holiday washing.

today I’m going to have another bash at kitchen surfaces as that was started (again) yesterday.

FireworkFluster · 15/11/2022 09:22

Good to 'see' you @Hooverphobe Sorry you're not feeling all that 😔 Have the hairdo and then take the medication. I know a couple of people who swear by it.
By windy i mean the soft southerner 25mph version. You can keep your 70mph, ta!
When DSnow32 was DS12 he was also a coat refuser. I remember my mum's face being a picture when i let him loose to walk to school in his polo shirt. I think around that time it was not cool to wear a coat or carry a rucksack. You'd get bullied for it. Kids can really be little shits sometimes.
Right, off out in sideways but not cold rain. BRB if I don't get stuck in a swamp

WinterLobelia · 15/11/2022 10:53

I totally agree @FireworkFluster about horses and mud being in the blood. I would so love to get back into it. I had a bad riding accident and lost my nerve but how much I miss it!

Older DS was muttering today about 'maybe trying riding again'. We have tried to put him on a horse twice - utter hysterics both times. I acted casual and said 'Oh yes, you should give it a go. See what you think' while mentally already planning pony purchases and looking into liveries and fulfilling my destiny as a pony club mum!

I hope you feel better soon @Hooverphobe Thanks

FireworkFluster · 15/11/2022 15:06

I'm not the same as I used to be after not bouncing after a fall too @WinterLobelia I don't just want to sit on a horse for the sake of it, but i enjoy occasionally exercising one that is pretty rock solid to help my friend out. I'm too lazy to earn more money so that puts another of my own out of reach. Mostly I've given in gracefully re riding but I really love being around the horses. And the general camaraderie and tack room chat.
Pony clubs love supporters for fence judging/dressage writers/score adder uppers if DS doesn't take to it but you still wanted to be involved? (You probably already know this if you're a horsey sort)

WinterLobelia · 15/11/2022 15:24

Not a bad idea at all @FireworkFluster I'd love to be a fence judge. I briefly flirted with the idea of carriage driving as well, so really ought to look into that. Although some of the competitions I have watched look as scary and potentially lethal as eventing!!

FireworkFluster · 15/11/2022 19:22

Fence judging is good fun! Especially if you are let loose with a walkie-talkie! My parents used to do it regularly at some of the BHS (now BE) events locally. I've only done some at riding club level. There's usually someone on a quad bike taking score sheets and issuing cake.
Carriage driving looks even more lethal than eventing! I love watching the scurry driving - driving equivalent of mounted games (which I also did as a nipper!) Ah, those were the days.....

petalpower · 15/11/2022 19:55

Horrible wet day here all day. I am very pleased with myself as I cleaned the fridge today - took all the shelves and door compartments out so it’s all sparkly and lovely now. A job that has been needing to be done for some time! Also went to my weekly exercise activity and visited auntie in the care home. Now settled down for the Bake Off final and then I’m a Celeb.
Sorry you’re not feeling well @Hooverphobe . Hope you’ve got your pain under control by whatever means!
A care worker in the community sounds really rewarding @FireworkFluster . I’m sure you make a huge difference to the lives of your clients and their families.
Hope everyone else has had a good day!

Peridot1 · 16/11/2022 08:23

Loving all the horsy chat. I have never been on a horse. Or wanted to quite frankly! Where we live now we are surrounded by them and they do look beautiful.

Sorry you are in pain @Hooverphobe. Really hope the medication helps. And that the hair do is nice.

well done on the fridge @petalpower. A job we all put off I think.

We had a lovely day yesterday other than the rain. Went to London and had a nice potter around the Liberty Christmas shop. Bought a Christmas jigsaw and a few decorations for the tree and a lovely fairy for the top of the tree which reminded me of one we used to have when I was a child. Then a nice long lunch with another friend and then a wander around Borough Market. It’s been so nice having my friend here. Good friendships really are the ones that just pick up where you left off.

Friend goes this morning and I’m planning on just catching up on washing, vacuuming etc. today. Project Landing will commence tomorrow with emptying the cupboard which is full of books. Also need to do a menu plan for the rest of the week.

Hooverphobe · 16/11/2022 08:33

@FireworkFluster i think you’re right. He’s “cool” and I’m just a silly overprotective mother - hence he’s gone out this morning in a force 10 without… even the bloody dog is doing Power Wees at the cat sits at the window wearing look of fury!

hair is lovely but I had to put a bobble in to walk from the salon to car.

horses are definitely in the blood and I’ll get back there. I used to pride myself on taking demons and schooling green youngsters. Now I look at the 16 year old schoolmasters with barely concealed lust. I can’t lift my left arm all the way up - I THINK it’s a rotator cuff injury due to a rogue crisp packet or something like that.

can I be a dressage judge and scrawl barely legible insults/faint praise for people who’ve spent £300 to ride a 3 minute test? 😁

@Peridot1 i picture you like Bridget Jones floating around the market before serving blue soup and marmalade.

Peridot1 · 16/11/2022 12:12

Grin @Hooverphobe. No to blue soup and marmalade. We did float about a bit though as had wine with lunch and then a mulled wine in the market. Then came home and DH did Thai food and we had yet more wine. Was a lovely trip down memory lane as we met my friend back in the early 90s when we all lived in Bangkok.

Aria999 · 16/11/2022 12:18

@petalpower well done on the fridge!

@Peridot1 that sounds lovely

The bathroom contractors are gone !!!! The bathroom looks quite nice (given it's acrylic) and we can use it this afternoon after the caulking dries. Woohoo!

Now I need to add 'get a glass shower screen' , 'fix broken mirrored door on cupboard' and 'paint bathroom walls' to my to do list.

Dead mouse consultant is coming this morning. I don't think he can actually remove the corpse but might be able to defend against future occurrences. The smell is gradually getting less appalling.

Today DS6 has his covid booster and flu shot after school.

Tomorrow I need to shop for birthday presents for DH and possibly top up groceries.
