We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

I’m in East Anglia @FireworkFluster . Anywhere near you? Lots of rain again today but amazed to avoid it for both dog walks.
Are you back from Dublin yet@Peridot1 ?
Gorgeous photo @Hooverphobe . And we’ll done for the sneaky tidying during your work call! Any luck finding a carpenter yet?
What a nightmare situation for you @Aria999 . Hopefully it’ll all be worth it in the end.
Is your fridge now a thing of beauty @WinterLobelia ?
You’ve been very busy @outoftimeagain . Well done on sorting out 4 bags! Any sign of the book yet?
I’ve been out of the house quite a bit today as it’s my weekly exercise class activity and also went to the care home. Managed to throw out some out of date ends of bottles of out of date sun cream from the bathroom and the empty bottle from the dog’s eye drops that had been put back on the shelf (DH) rather than in the bin. Booked for two upcoming lunches out ( we take auntie out every fortnight or so) and a cardiologist appointment for next month. I’ve been waiting 5 months for a cardiac MRI and need a follow up after a couple of weeks.

FireworkFluster · 08/11/2022 17:41

I once worked in East Anglia, @petalpower , but no, I just googled and you're a 2 day walk away! I'm more south but not quite as east ☺ It's a great feeling getting rid of old pots and packages isn't it? I'm frequently in quite hoarded homes and they are quite an inspiration to me to get crap out of my house. I hope aunty is keeping ok 💕
I've had a very nice day! Proper old tidy up and clean. Also a blood test ahead of upcoming scan. Hospital carpark was full and I had to run from where I could park. Feeling quite smug that it's done and I didn't forget to go (adhd tendencies) And dinner is in the oven 😇
I am all alone at home this evening and I must have a think about what needs doing in the front room!

WinterLobelia · 09/11/2022 05:58

It sure is soggy out there so SoggyLobelia would be very apt!

I love my fridge. I keep rearranging it. Grin

Very glad both @FireworkFluster and @petalpower are getting medical things sorted. very best of luck.

I persuaded the entire Soggy family to spend 10 minutes (oven timer ON!) in cleaning up before bed. This has been an ambition of mine for some time but is hit or miss. Mainly because I am usually worried about being too bossy. But it worked well. The biggest amount of grumpbling came from DH so i waggled my finger at him and told him to zip it. BossyLobelia Grin

Hope everyone has a truly lovely day. Thanks

FireworkFluster · 09/11/2022 06:20

Your post was an early morning breath of fresh air @WinterLobelia! Made me grin 😁
It's sideways rain here this morning.

Sorry @petalpower I missed the bit about your MRI Flowers

FireworkFluster · 09/11/2022 06:26

MN or phone just went mad and posted the above for me before I was ready.
I cleaned my car out yesterday. Can't believe how much crap I accumulated.
One of my visits today is on the marsh road and I have a nasty feeling there will be flooding. Genuinely think I should pack spare clothes and wellies ( and provisions) today.
Best get to it!
Have a great day all Brew

Peridot1 · 09/11/2022 09:36

Morning everyone.

I’m now back home in UK. Last few days were hard work. And of course didn’t get everything done that I wanted. But the house is now pretty much empty other than mobility aids and a chair that will be collected at some point in next week or so.

We filled two skips. Sort of. The second skip is getting raided by skip divers fairly regularly and they’ve taken quite a lot. I put the kitchen chairs out beside the skip on Monday morning and within 30 mins a van pulled up and they went through the skip and took quite a bit and then I realised they had taken the chairs as well. Result! Every time I was getting worried the skip would be too full we realised some stuff had gone. I much prefer knowing someone is using things. It does seem to be a business - they come around fairly regularly and it’s usually different guys.

It was hard leaving. But it’s done now. Found so much random stuff. Dad had kept so much personal and work related papers. It was interesting to read through. One of my sisters has taken quite a bit. I found a suitcase of my mums clothes and one of my sisters took a dress so it’s nice to think that will get worn again.

Hope you are all doing ok. That was a stunning photo @Hooverphobe. Beautiful.

I will try to keep up with the name changes! I should probably name change more regularly myself. I like your seasonal changes @WinterLobelia.

Today I’m just unpacking, washing and general tidying. Cleaners are in this afternoon. I may manage to get the spare bedroom tidied for them to clean - have a friend coming to stay on Monday so that definitely needs doing.

I also want to declutter the kitchen surfaces. I have way to much stuff out and it’s starting to drive me mad. Always looks messy.

Hooverphobe · 09/11/2022 11:43

@petalpower I’ve sent an email to a joiner asking if he’s any availability. Aibu for having contacted him first because he’s fucking hot and if I’m to have a strange man in my house it may as well be eye-candy…

@Peridot1 i took some of my mum’s clothes and sewing stuff after she’d died. The clothes ended up being totally not me but I used some of the sewing stuff just last weekend.

@FireworkFluster ugh, I need to clean the car. It’s a job I find less favourable than cleaning the kitchen sink. 🤬

@WinterLobelia i admire you for bringing them all to heel. Every time I ask for help it’s met with huge resistance, but I refuse to send these young men out into the world - and on to unsuspecting women!

Today I’m making a smug fish pie with home-caught cod. Eldest is refusing to eat the fish his brother catches because he is jealous.

Hooverphobe · 09/11/2022 11:44

@Peridot1 i did some kitchen surfaces at the weekend and it made such a difference. Still more to do sadly.

Hooverphobe · 09/11/2022 12:57

Crikey! Heard back from the joiner and he’s fully booked until august and says everyone he knows is! 😲

Aria999 · 09/11/2022 16:33

@Hooverphobe sounds about right.

Get on his list now and get a cheap temporary thing off Amazon in the meantime?

Aria999 · 09/11/2022 16:37

That sounds like a satisfactory conclusion @Peridot1

I also like it when junk disappears and I can think it was useful to someone!

One time I illegally left a pushchair and some fold up chairs in the alley as I had no idea what to do with them. Charity shop said no. I then felt bad about littering and went back a short while later the same day, they were gone!

Aria999 · 09/11/2022 16:38

@WinterLobelia lol. I need to hire you.
DH isn't too bad but DS6 acts like tidying up is against his religion, and DD is only 2.

WinterLobelia · 09/11/2022 18:05

Aria999 · 09/11/2022 16:33

@Hooverphobe sounds about right.

Get on his list now and get a cheap temporary thing off Amazon in the meantime?

Good call.

Blimey! Maybe that is why we have not heard from the carpenter - or the upholsterer- or the window cleaner- or the oven cleaner.

Lord. Wish I were so sought after!

Hope your day was okay @FireworkFluster We have a marsh road near us and so i did wonder again if we might be very nearby. How I would love a IRL friend!

I was thrilled when I dumped a ratty iron garden bench in our skip and one of our neighbours snaffled it, upcycled it and sold it! So happy it was of actual use and not just landfill.

My fridge is stunning. Dh said the shelves and lids are a bit irritating. So I have banned him from my fridge if he cannot talk nicely about it.

Aria999 · 09/11/2022 21:48

3:45pm today; call from Dd2 preschool, she has a fever, can I come and get her immediately.

3:46pm, as heading out the door, notice email from DS6 school, he is misbehaving and been sent to the principal's office, he can't go to extended day, can I come and get him immediately.

Luckily, the two schools are quite close together 🤦‍♀️

Hooverphobe · 10/11/2022 08:16

@Aria999 those are the bits of parenting not covered in “WTEWYE”! Other topics include “The first time mummy gets drunk post-partum is the night a child will require OOH doctor” and “Things you never thought you’d say”.

alas I already have a shitty “temp” bookcase which isn’t big enough. I’ve been idly looking at Laura Ashley bookcases as they look a better size and more in a style I was hoping for.

@WinterLobelia 😂 That’s one way to deal with an ungrateful sod.

I have an ungrateful sod this end. I want to get his bedroom re carpeted and he’s thrown an epic tantrum because of the fish tank. I mean 🤷‍♀️ - is it not possible to just decant some water and then put it back after?

@FireworkFluster have you dried out yet?

FireworkFluster · 11/11/2022 07:18

Good morning all! I have indeed dried out. Didn't need my waders in the end but if I'd had time to stop I'd have taken a photo of the water from the dykes gently lapping the sides of the lane. Those dykes are deep and when the lanes do actually flood you cant see the edges, so although its shallow enough to drive on, there's a valid fear of actually ending up in the dyke if you don't know the road well. Quite a lot of that area is considered at risk if the sea levels rise, which they are predicted to do, yet they still keep building there. I drove along a lane right by the sea yesterday at bang on high tide. Was a high, high tide too due to full moon, and it would have been on the road if not for regular rearranging of the shingle. It felt really close, as the wind was whipping it up and the waves were quite big.

Well there's me taking the thread right off track laugh 😂

FireworkFluster · 11/11/2022 07:45

Tried to save myself emoji hunting there 🤦‍♀️

@Aria999 I feel for you with the DC situation. Nothing is straightforward is it? When we have our project party one day, we can all share our horror stories without the fear of the dreaded Outing! Suffice to say my lot have turned into quite reasonable humans despite it looking in doubt at times, I am relatively sane I think, and they didn't quite bankrupt me ( though it was close)

Well done @Peridot1 I love the skip diving effect. Win win all round. Round our way anything left in the front gardens is considered fit for the taking, but as long as you know that, it's quite a useful thing. But sadly no plant pots or hanging baskets, as they are gone in a trice as well!

@WinterLobelia I salute you for your family training skills! And your boundaries re DH and your beautiful fridge!

@Hooverphobe I would be astonished about the chippy's waiting list except I know from first hand experience how hard it is to find anyone to do small building type jobs. In my next life I'm going to be a plumber and marry a carpenter.

Right, job for today....get out from under cat.
Then refresh coffee. Take one to my beloved. Finish wordle. Which currently has me stumped.
I think I might venture into the loft today to see what Christmas decorations we have. We've not bothered to decorate for two years running but I'm currently feeling enthusiastic so I'm striking while the iron's hot! (Nobody panic - I wont be putting them up yet!)

🖐 @RunningKatie and @petalpower and @outoftimeagain and anyone else I've missed 😘

Peridot1 · 11/11/2022 10:02

Morning all.

Autocorrect changed morning to ironing. Hmm Might be a hint. The ironing basket is still full from the summer holidays. Mainly linen shirts. Thanks DS. Might have to wash them again before ironing them though.

Wordle is nasty today @FireworkFluster! It’s basically a random selection of letters. Which is how i got it.

@Aria999 - that sounds a bit of a nightmare. Hope DCs ok today.

Today’s plan here is a supermarket shop this morning and a continuing of the spare room sort out which I started before I went to Dublin. Have to have it done by Monday as have a friend coming. I also want to get some outdoor tidying done. And tidy off the top of a small sideboard in the dining area which has become a dumping ground. Mainly by me. I could clear out the drawers which would help.

Haven’t tagged everyone but wishing you all a great day.

FireworkFluster · 11/11/2022 16:40

Hello @Peridot1! A busy one for you! I achieved wordle in the end. I rarely let it beat me totally!
I rarely iron anything. If my people bought linen shirts they'd definitely be on their own with that!
I made it out from under the cat. Didnt make it to the loft as a daughter messaged me asking to go shopping with her so I did that instead. Mainly window shopping but got a few festive bits. Then DH said how about a walk on seafront and some lunch. How could i refuse? So a lovely day. Making up for it by doing more online training as it's suddenly flashed up as overdue.
Off tomorrow too so maybe a look at the loft then.
Queen of procrastination here!

petalpower · 11/11/2022 16:41

Hello all. Hope you’re all ok. Haven’t posted for a few days as I’ve been busy with bits and pieces. You know when you’ve been busy but can’t remember what you’ve done? Had hair coloured and cut today, did some more Christmas shopping and printed a couple of photos to send to my auntie (a different one, not the one in the care home) as we had a family wedding in the summer and she’s not a smartphone person. New tyre on my daughter’s car the other day. Seen three sets of friends for lunch this week! Ordered a table top Christmas tree and decorations for care home auntie so we can decorate her room as soon as it’s December.

FireworkFluster · 11/11/2022 16:47

I know exactly what you mean about being busy but can't remember what 😂 I wonder if it's universal for women of a certain age?
Nice to 'see' you again!
You sound like a very lovely niece!
You've reminded me to sort out some pictures to print. Shame to leave them languishing on the phone.

petalpower · 11/11/2022 17:18

Thank you @FireworkFluster , I try to be thoughtful and look after people.
I don’t know where the days go sometimes. I’m not sure how I ever had time to work back in the day. It makes my head spin to think that I used to be a deputy head working full time, had two children and DH worked away 5 days a week, was chair of governors at a different school to the one I worked in and was staff governor at work. My life is very different now.

WinterLobelia · 12/11/2022 12:00

morning all!

Not alot to report but yesterday while tidying out the spare junk room I found a dvd that I had lost so that is tonight's viewing!

Today I am clearing the dining table as I want to lay it properly and set it with a tablecloth and actually use it for what it is meant to be used for. Grin

Peridot1 · 12/11/2022 12:58

You know what they say @petalpower - if you want something done ask a busy person! You definitely had a lot on your plate.

yesterday I tackled the spare bedroom so that’s almost done. Have a couple of bags for the charity shop and a large blue ikea bag of random stuff to sort through.

DH and I have just spent the morning on a village work team. I litter picked with some others and DH dug and planted and barrowed bark to various places. Finished off with bacon rolls and a hot cider and gin punch on the village green. Really nice morning. Have almost done 10,000 steps for the first time in ages. Dishwasher is now on washing all the mugs.

This afternoon I need to vacuum and tidy up as we have our neighbours coming in for dinner.

It’s a beautiful day here. Hope it is for all of you too.

Hooverphobe · 12/11/2022 15:01

@FireworkFluster i can get stranded in the village with a high tide in my little fiesta. I need to wait for a MAN in a pick-up. 😂 I like the high tides though as the seals end up sitting on the verge of the road rather than the beach. Idiots.

I’ve been bumping “make photo book” a few months along in my google calendar for years. 😳

@WinterLobelia it’s a WHAT? I mean I know I said earlier in the week I wanted to clear my sewing station. It’s not a sewing station. It’s a dining table. And dumping ground of shite.

yesterday I did my monthly jaunt into town to hit up Tesco and the utter bastards have moved everything and it wasn’t until I hit to the till I realised I’d missed essentials. 5 hour round trip and I didn’t even get weetabix.

today was going to be unproductive, but a quick check-in here gave me the impetus to take a couple of bags to the charity shop. And for the win I returned with only one item - a decorative plant pot for anything I’ve not yet killed.
