We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

In the end the washing machine repair guy arrived 20 minutes before the meeting so I was able to give him a cheque and leave him to it. 😊

Phew! Hope the meeting was a success!

@Peridot1 safe trip!

@RunningKatie MN was behaving oddly for me yesterday and I had to clear all history as it seemed to have run off with WhatsApp! Wondering if you saw any badgers? I seem to be seeing lots on side of the road lately 😔

@petalpower filling the sugar bowl definitely counts round here! I get an enormous sense of my own brilliance when I put a new loo roll on the holder. Nobody in my family has ever considered how it gets there I don't thing, and have a weird contentment regarding leaving the new one balanced on top of the finished one.

Well done on your juggling @Aria999 ! I live in fear of the washing machine breaking down - worse still, the dishwasher. There’s not much I hate more in life than washing dishes by hand. The four horsemen perhaps, but it’s a close call.

food luck today @Peridot1 you just be racking up those air miles! Trip to me at the end! 😂

no badgers here, nor foxes - so we have gazillions off hedgehogs who don’t have any predators.

@Solosunrise yesterday I took possession of magnetic spice pots which stick to the fridge door. So I decanted all the new spices into there as there’s no room in my spice racks. New spices have come about due to the recent expansion of cookbooks 😳. That was very satisfying.

last night I had my first ever yoga class and it was lovely. I must be getting properly better as I was no more wobbly than anyone else, so wonderful really.

today I’m going to fill another bag for the charity shop, it’s quite extraordinary how much stuff I need to get rid of. But a bag a week is a lot more doable than aiming to declutter the house in one go.

Peridot1 · 26/10/2022 07:51

Hope you enjoyed coffee with your daughters @Solosunrise. And I just spotted you on the Wordle thread! Hadn’t noticed you on there before. Love my Wordle every morning!

Glad the washing machine man didn’t muck up your meeting @Aria999.

@petalpower - a full sugar pot is a happy sugar pot!

@Mumtobabyhavoc - that sounds delicious!

@Hooverphobe - yes the airmiles are building up nicely! And your part of the world is definitely on my bucket list! Glad the yoga went well. And that you feel you may be getting better. I really need to start exercising. I have asked DH for some PT sessions and gym membership for Christmas to get me started.

@RunningKatie - I keep losing long posts! It’s so annoying.

Well I took all the charity stuff yesterday so big tick off my list. Changed DS’s bed. He should really do it himself but he is working quite hard at the moment so I let him off.

This morning is packing and heading to the airport. Have a good day all.

Aria999 · 26/10/2022 13:53

Morning all 😊

Yes I do have a project to work on which is great (and means I can postpone job hunting for a couple months).

Today the bathroom fitters are meant to be arriving but they haven't said when. Off to tidy up a path to the bathroom through DS6 room (it is jack and jill I.e. shared between 2 bedrooms with no corridor access).

So many of you are doing great charity shop runs!

RunningKatie · 26/10/2022 17:09

Today we've had another busy day, so think it's takeaway tonight and DH has plans to park himself in the bath for an hour or so. He's even packed his bottle of Pirate Matey! I'm happy he's using someone else's hot water, although it's so mild I'm turning the heating down.
I've found a jigsaw and dc2 has found some terrible anime on Netflix so we've already started our lazy evening!
Am envious of all the sorting everyone is doing, I need to have a big declutter when we get home.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 27/10/2022 06:56

Morning all. Sorry for radio silence- we are away this half term! and I am checking in just sometimes.

I am not one of @Solosunrise 's list of names but incredibly close to one of them. Grin. Sadly no Lobelia either but am due for a namechange. Tempted to become 'NeverGoToTheLouvreInHalfTermLobelia' Hmm

I like the sound of your name @Hooverphobe ! I was going to be Cameron if I were a boy.

Hope everyone has a great day. Thanks

Hooverphobe · 27/10/2022 07:43

Love the potential new username @OrangePumpkinLobelia - I dread to ask…

I’ve reached an impasse with the charity shop collection. I’d wanted to stuff everything in a duff handbag I bought - but whilst clearing it out I found a 5” plastic beetle which belongs to my youngest. Whilst I’m loathe to donate his toys without permission… the very fact it’s IN the bag is because he enjoys putting it in places guaranteed to make me scream until my gammy eyes focus!

nonetheless I will donate 2 of the 4 pairs of trousers I came home with on Saturday. That’s the problem with charity shops - never come home empty-handed.

small job for today - the pumpkin plant on the kitchen window is clearly not going to do anything this year - so I’ll stick it in the compost heap and perhaps next year it’ll do what it’s supposed to do. The cat needs more room on the windowsill so everyone wins.

Peridot1 · 27/10/2022 08:29

Good morning from Dublin. Dark, dreary and wet here.

I need to go food shopping today. May combine with meeting my sister for a coffee.

Then it’s list time. A list of what furniture may go to a charity, a list of anything that may sell, a list of things I need to put on FB to give away. And a general to do list. Also need to contact a couple of friends to arrange to see them while I’m here.

I'm going to suggest Lobelia on every what shall I call my baby thread from here on I think. I am disappointed that it is not your name 😢

Raining here in South East England too, @Peridot1

Ive only just joined in the wordle thread. We know how to have a good time in this house: either DH or I choose the first word at bedtime (trying never to use the same one twice) It's the first thing I do in the morning and I remind him of the word on WhatsApp in capital letters, followed by how many goes it too. I'm usually at work by the time he crawls out of bed so he sends me a screenshot when he's completed it. Party animals I tell you 😂

RunningKatie · 27/10/2022 17:45

And the holiday cottage now smells of vomit!
DC2 fainted and then threw up, so that's slightly taken the fun out of the day! They are absolutely fine, just scared the life out of us all.

Peridot1 · 28/10/2022 08:57

Gosh @RunningKatie that sounds scary. Hope she is ok. Wonder what caused it?

I love Wordle @Solosunrise. Been doing it for a while. DH not interested although he was helping me on a really tricky one in the summer and managed to lose me my 90 day streak. I was not impressed!

Didn’t do much in the end yesterday although got a bit of a fright when I got back from the supermarket to see a skip in the drive. It’s a week early. So called them to come take it back again. Not ready yet and don’t want it outside the house over Halloween. Thankfully it’s a guy BIL knows so they picked it up. It was their error.

Also decided to use the council bulky household waste collection service for five large items which would probably almost fill a skip. Works out a lot cheaper than having to get another skip.

Solosunrise · 28/10/2022 14:03

Blimy! Hope everything's ok now @RunningKatie !
You've got such a lot going on @Peridot1 Flowers
Well done on the project @Aria999 and seems like there has been some smugness @Hooverphobe

🖐 @OrangePumpkinLobelia hope the trip has been fun.

I have a long weekend off at home and I'm planning a bit of study, some smug cooking, a shed-load of reading an actual book (currenty The Yearling which apparently my mum read when she was at school) Couple of family gatherings as there are birthdays coming up. I will be pleased if I make it to Monday without everything falling apart around me 😊

Hello all - hope you’re all ok. Apologies for not posting over the past few days. Can’t even think what I’ve been doing apart from seeing half term teacher friends!
Your weekend plans sound great @Solosunrise !
Hope your Dc2 is feeling better now @RunningKatie .
Have you been in French France @OrangePumpkinLobelia ?
Hope you’ve made progress with the house @Peridot1 . You sound very busy and productive. Has the weather in Dublin improved? I do Wordle every day too but haven’t posted on the Wordle thread.
Have the bathroom fitters arrived @Aria999 ?
Apologies for anyone I’ve missed.

Solosunrise · 29/10/2022 09:28

Good morning all!

@petalpower I find sometimes I can't answer the 'so what have you been up to?' question with any ease at all. I guess we all feel it. I hope you enjoyed catching up with your friends 😊
I find a useful way to get off to sleep at night is to mentally go through my day. Rarely make it to lunchtime but little memories pop up that I didn't know my mind had retained. The brain is a wondrous beast!
I'm still in bed after a late night, and clearly have come over all philosophical.

Today I am starting the artist's way morning pages. I did it before for about six weeks and found it useful. I plan to use smaller pages though because 3 sides of A4 would take me about 40 mins even doing stream of consciousness writing. Therapeutic but time consuming!

Better get up and start my batch cooking as next week is a busy one so my future self will be grateful.

Best wishes to you all wherever you may be 💕

Hello! yes French France and we are on our way home today. About to head off to start the journey home so I am just checking in and will catch up properly on the thread later but wanted to say 'hi'. Smile and Thanks to everyone.

Solosunrise · 30/10/2022 07:03

Morning all! Woken up by heavy rain today.
Really lazy day yesterday which was lovely and have yet to accomplish any batch cooking. So that is today's task for me.

My chasing up of a hospital report has resulted in another hospital appointment for next week. Better late than never! From a ball I started rolling last December.

OP posts:
OrangePumpkinLobelia · 30/10/2022 07:55

Morning!

That is good news about the hospital appointment @Solosunrise but it is dreadful it is taking so long. I hope all is well.

back home quite late yesterday after delayed trains and connections and all that. Good to be home though. I was energetic enough to shove a chicken and some pre-prepared veg in the oven (thanks to M&S!) but everyone was too tired to eat it!

We had a good time and DH stood in an epic queue with the DCs to take them up the Eiffel tower which turns out is the best thing they have ever done and made them fall in love with Paris (and possibly travelling itself which I am thrilled about). I did not go up because I am scared of heights. The Louvre was a nightmare with the sheer volume of people. It was quite claustrohobic but we got through it (and saw the Mona Lisa eventually!).

So today is an unpack and wash day. And that will be it I think! Oh and to go and buy Halloween stuff.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Peridot1 · 30/10/2022 08:24

Morning all.

Sounds like a nice trip @OrangePumpkinLobelia. I’ve never been to Paris. Other than the time we were on a driving holiday in France and I was navigating and we were heading for Calais to get the ferry home and I managed to navigate us almost into the centre of Paris instead of going around it. It was our first holiday together. It was first time now DH was obviously annoyed with me and I almost did a dramatic flounce out of the car but figured he’d probably drive off and leave me there so I didn’t!

I didn’t do much yesterday. Cleared through some paperwork and emptied and washed a kitchen drawer. Will do something similar today and take some photos of furniture that might sell and am then heading out to stay at my sister’s overnight.

Have a great day all.

Hooverphobe · 30/10/2022 08:33

Hello! Alas not much smugness going on here as nobody will leave me alone. Can’t go 2 minutes without someone whining at me. 🙄

Yesterday a friend and I took the ferry to another island for a look around so that was fun. Last night was guising (Scottish trick or treating). 20 kids pile into your kitchen and sing - they arrived so suddenly I didn’t have time to decant the cat, but in time I hope she’ll forgive me !

im another one who hasn’t done Paris properly. Despite living close-by for years I didn’t have any interest. 😳. Saw the Eiffel Tower whilst flying out of CDG and have seen the outskirts by TGV. I’ve also seen Ayers Rock from a plane window, so I’m good there too.

today I’m going to do a bit of smug batch-cooking and avoid fighting kids.

@Solosunrise well done for chasing up the hospital. I really need to get on it this week. It’s tricky, I know the NHS are overwhelmed and I’m asking myself why I should be prioritised over someone else… but yesterday morning when I woke up one of my eyes was on the blink again, so sooner rather than later I suppose. Ugh. Hate phone calls. But letters are too easily ignored without a dedicated “customer service” dept.

RunningKatie · 30/10/2022 08:57

Morning all! We are safely home again, ddog has been retrieved and is thinking about forgiving us for leaving him for a week.
The house is chaos, youngest has a football match this morning so we've already played hunt the right shorts. Found them, I'm hoping that it all goes well, he's a bit vague still after the fainting drama.
This morning I have already cleared out a load of coffee shop and softplay loyalty cards. Next I need to do the washing, ironing, shopping list, hassle about homework etc. It's like we've never been away!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 30/10/2022 09:12

DH is heading off to retrieve the cats also @RunningKatie I am already quivering at the retribution we will suffer. Grin

I hope your DS is much better. Poor pet. And enjoys football.

Homework!! I'd forgotten. I must enquire if the Dcs have any. They usually deny the existence of homework until the night before then it is panic stations.

Hooverphobe · 30/10/2022 09:24

Speaking of “denial of existence” - my youngest is moaning he can’t find any tracksuit bottoms to wear fishing. I am in top of the washing (smug) - and nothing fitting that description has passed through this week.

this despite me repeating in a daily basis “if it doesn’t go in the washing basket, it doesn’t get washed…” - and of course a bag of used PE kit on the stairs…
