We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

So now you all know where I live, shall I put the kettle on or break out the 🥃? 😁

Mine's a tea, please and thank you. Happy to bring cake ☺

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday! Thinking of you for your first day back @Hooverphobe . I take it this is the original job and not the village shop? Are you still going to do that?
I've got to go to work. BRB 🖐

Morning all. Woken up by heavy rain here.

Hot toddies sound excellent @Hooverphobe.

Enjoy your holiday @RunningKatie - hope the curry was good! And that you are somewhere lovely for your holiday.

Hope the blazer didn’t shrink @OrangePumpkinLobelia - that would definitely cancel out the benefit of having all the uniform washed!

Did you say team and cake @Solosunrise - yes please! Love cake.

I finally made a start on the spare room yesterday. Said I would do an hour and then read my book. Did some sorting and bagging up of clothes ready for the charity shop. Mostly DS’s. Have some more to sort later and will be taking them all tomorrow. Also cleared out a box of random junk that DS cleared out of his bedroom a few months ago. Another of those to do later.

May also attempt a drawer in the sideboard in the living area. It getting hard to close.

Have a good Sunday all.

Hooverphobe · 23/10/2022 08:57

Morning all! I won’t do much today because it takes more than potential Russians cutting our cables to hold us back and last night was a very “messy” do. So I’m going to dust the sofa today. With my pyjamas.

@Solosunrise yes, back to the original job tomorrow. I’m kind of dreading it - although it’s only a short hop now until Christmas and my colleagues are lovely.

@OrangePumpkinLobelia is it really the blazer shrinking or an exponentially growing child? My eldest is 12 and I bought him age 15 jeans last week which already look a touch too short. He’s shooting up weekly. 😲

@RunningKatie i hope you have a super holiday with little responsibility and lots of decadence!

i got another big bag to the charity shop yesterday including the old bread bin 🥳! Came home with the PERFECT pair of yoga trousers which is good timing as I’m starting yoga this week. I thought it would be a good exercise to do and if you’re sitting down it’s hard to fall over.

I want to do some smug batch cooking today - attempted and succeeded much to my surprise, with the making of paneer last week. So lots of curries to be done.

kettle is on, tea? Coffee? Hot Todd-y?

come visit anyone, you’ll love it! Not the state of my house maybe but the rest is lovely.

Solosunrise · 23/10/2022 18:13

I have just had a sit in the bath after getting soaked this afternoon. I got to pondering the baby name thread. And then i thought, we have this little hot toddy club over here, and it's never occurred to me to wonder what any of your names are. Now at a guess we span 3 decades, so I'm wondering if we suggest a few names, we can do a sort of hands up to having one of those names. Can make it quite long so we can stay anonymous. At least till we take a coach trip to @Hooverphobe's house....

At the risk of making a fool of myself, I'm one of:
Susan
Alison
Michelle
Elizabeth
Lesley
Elaine
Fiona
Emma
Julia
Amanda
Paula

As you can see, I am a child of the 60s!
Anyone want to play?

Solosunrise · 23/10/2022 18:17

I wonder if any of you are Jill, Nicky, Catherine, Emily, Karen, Hannah, Angela, Rebecca, Jessica, Madeleine or Frances?

Solosunrise · 23/10/2022 18:28

I'm just catching up on all the recent magnificence and I'm thrilled at half term holidays away, errands being run, clean school uniforms, smug batch cooking and spotless ovens. Also yoga and sheila maids!

My contribution for the day is a bag of books to go to the telephone box library, and a decluttered and bleached cutlery drawer. And the house is relatively tidy (as I should be with only two functioning adults here, but we still manage to spread stuff quite readily)

Hope it goes well tomorrow @Hooverphobe

Yes

Hooverphobe · 23/10/2022 20:06

None of those for me. I’ve got stupid Gaelic names only @Peridot1 could pronounce. 😂

petalpower · 23/10/2022 20:29

I started typing a post earlier and it disappeared before I could post!
I’ll start with a cup of tea @Hooverphobe then go onto a hot toddy if thats ok?
Goodness me @Solosunrise a bleached cutlery drawer?!
Despite (just) being a child of the sixties none of those names are mine as it’s very unusual!

Solosunrise · 23/10/2022 18:17

Yep! Although I can never get anything with my name on it because of the spelling. I always fancied a pen with my name on!
I am having a glorious time, wine and netflix. The dc are asleep, dh has pootled off to a real ale pub.

Peridot1 · 24/10/2022 08:27

Morning all.

I too am a child of the 60s and am on your first list @Solosunrise. I was going to be called David but then I turned out to be female.

Hope today goes well @Hooverphobe. And I’m intrigued now as to your name.

Sounds like a lovely evening @RunningKatie.

I did more spare room sorting yesterday. Sorted out DS’s outgrown suits and a box of random things he cleared out from his room months ago. Charity shop run planned for today as the landing is currently a complete mess with everything ready to go. We also put a suitcase and two standing fans up into the attic. I have an IKEA blue bag of stuff DS brought back from his uni house to sort and some bedding and then spare room is done.

Solosunrise · 24/10/2022 18:11

I was going to be called George, but apparently I didn't look like one @Peridot1

We're going to have to get on a coach so we can go find @Hooverphobe's unpronounceable name now 🤔

I'll be disappointed if Lobelia isn't Lobelia's real name

Funnily enough i was looking at personalised mugs today and they mainly had the names of my 90s born children and their peers on them.

@petalpower I bleached the drawer as it smelt slightly stale. Not sure if a good idea or not... I did air it for a while before putting it all back in and closing the drawer so 🤞

Sounds like a fab trip @RunningKatie!

I have repotted some housplants today. And booked my flu jab. Those are things that will stay done for a little while ☺

petalpower · 24/10/2022 18:55

I don’t know what I was going to be called if I was a boy @Solosunrise . Maybe the name that my brother now has? I’m definitely up for a coach trip to see @Hooverphobe . Might be a long journey though!
I’ve had a can’t believe bothered day today with a serious lack of motivation. Phoned to book my exercise class for next week that has to be booked in advance, ordered worm and flea treatment for the dog, sorted all the photos I’d ordered ready for putting into an album and did a bit of ironing. Hand washed an annoying jumper that’s been lurking at the bottom of the laundry basket too.
How was your first day back at work @Hooverphobe ? Hope you’re not completely exhausted.

Hooverphobe · 24/10/2022 19:15

👋 everyone! First day back was fine although it did feel like my first day ever using a computer. Done anyway.

as for my name - dig your hand in a bag of scrabble letters, fling your handful in the air and then pronounce whatever’s landed. 😁

not only will it be a long coach journey - but it’s 14 hours on the ferry and I’m not even on the mainland so it’ll be ANOTHER ferry on top. You’ll all need cake and toddies by the end of that. it’s why we have to train our children so well - there’s no “right I’m getting in the car and I’ll be there in 2 hours” when they head off to uni.

I sent a shitty letter to the electric company marked “complaints department” and did some other admin but I was just focused on surviving today and counting down the hours until school goes back!

Hooverphobe · 24/10/2022 19:16

PS I was going to be Andrew. But no Willie and why stick with a regular name when you can just make one up from a language not spoken in anywhere except the western isles?

Solosunrise · 25/10/2022 08:22

Thank you for joining in my little game folks 😘

Well done for surving the day@Hooverphobe Dare I ask if you're back full time? You are indeed very long way away!
Ah @petalpower that sounds like a productive day. I too lose handwash only/wash alone items at the bottom of the laundry basket.
I didn't know about 'life admin' until I came across the term on MN but I have already achieved quite a lot of it this morning and it's not even morning 9am! I have started the day feeling quite smug. It doesn't come naturally to me and it genuinely fell to the (loathed by some) Flylady to explain to me how to get things done 😳
I'm meeting up with my daughters today to have a coffee and a browse of Christmas things (don't judge!) It's rare that we get days off simultaneously and I'm really looking forward to seeing them both at once.

@Peridot1 you are such a busy bee! What an amazing feeling it will be to have all that extra space!

Have a lovely day everyone!

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 25/10/2022 09:34

Wow @Hooverphobe you are far away.

I wasn’t very busy in the end @Solosunrise! Moved the bags etc from the landing to the hall and there they stayed.

Have quite a lot to do today now as a result of not doing much yesterday. Charity shop run this morning after I have a shower. Need to change DS’s bed. And do some washing. And start getting my stuff together to fly to Dublin tomorrow. And I have a dentist appointment this afternoon. Just a quick one.

Aria999 · 25/10/2022 14:17

Today I have a washing machine repair man coming, and a meeting with my client about some new work.

Murthy's law dictates that the repair guy will be late and arrive during my meeting.

Solosunrise · 25/10/2022 19:49

How did it go @Aria999 ?
@Peridot1 landing to hall is one step closer!
Hope you've all had a good day!

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 25/10/2022 20:03

Have a good flight @Peridot1
I typed a proper message this morning and the MN gods ate it.
Anyway, we are having a lovely break. I'm back on the wine in front of Autumnwatch.
We are just looking to seeif we go to the local badger bar if there is a chance of seeing badgers at this time of year.

petalpower · 25/10/2022 20:03

Coffee with your daughters sounds lovely @Solosunrise .
Did the meeting and washing machine repair clash in the end @Aria999 ?
Hope you have a safe journey tomorrow @Peridot1 .
How has everyone else been today? I’ve been to my exercise class and visited auntie in her care home but not much else. I did refill the sugar pot which has been annoying me for a few days so that’s an achievement!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/10/2022 20:06

Baked a cranberry, coconut, cho chip loaf and now enjoying a slice with a latte while baby sleeps. Bliss.

Aria999 · 25/10/2022 21:10

In the end the washing machine repair guy arrived 20 minutes before the meeting so I was able to give him a cheque and leave him to it. 😊

petalpower · 25/10/2022 21:11

Result @Aria999 !
