We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

I love all these little snapshots into all your lives! Yesterday I got round to painting a couple of wooden crates that our veg came in from the greengrocers. I make hampers as Christmas presents for a couple of family members and have always bought baskets from Wilco in the past. They same to have got up quite a bit in price this year (along with everything else) so I’m economising and using the boxes and some random paint. They need to be ready for delivery at the end of November via other family members who are visiting. Took care home auntie out for lunch yesterday with DH and DS who is visiting for the weekend. In the morning caught up with life admin. Had a lovely lie in this morning (DH turn to get up with the dog!) but came down to carnage in the kitchen. DH has decided to pick the quince from the garden and start making membrillo - he is a good cook but is incapable of tidying up as he goes along. He would make a rubbish criminal as he leaves a trail of clues to what he’s been doing behind him wherever he goes!

Solosunrise · 30/10/2022 10:09

Oh hurrah, all back safe and sound! No time to respond individually but how lovely to hear all your news ( and you all make me smile with your wonderful ways with words!)

@OrangePumpkinLobelia be careful what you wish for...at one time i had 2/3 offspring living abroad because they loved to travel and ended up taking root elsewhere! But thankfully we have modern comms so I'm happy as long as they are happy. I'm sure you're the same Flowers

We definitely have to fight for medical care now don't we? @Hooverphobe your wonky eye deserves you to do some fighting but i absolutely hear you on the feeling of unfairness about possibly beating someone to the head of the queue. I'm assuming I'm on the fast track 14 day thingy but I've been around long enough to know that doesn't mean I have a devastating diagnosis. Last year was a funky routine mammogram result which required extra tests, and all was fine though I'm now sporting a titanium chip in one breast.

Off to a posh lunch in a bit so will catch up later on Wine

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 30/10/2022 10:27

Oooh posh lunch! Do report back!

I agree @Hooverphobe that you deserve to be prioritised and also understand the worry about others. I hope you are okay.

@petalpower I love the idea of the painted crates!

Yes a good point @Solosunrise about the travel issue. Although I have told DS1 that if he chooses to live in Paris (which has been a theme this week) then i am coming too. He was quick to suggest I had my own apartment and that I not live with him. Grin

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 31/10/2022 07:50

Morning! Hope everyone is well.

I am not back at work until Wednesday so today is a catch up on washing day and other post holiday tasks. DH is heading off for blood tests. The DCs are gaming. I need to go and get halloween stuff. I am hoping to wash some old curtains then will take a view as to if they will be rehung or if i go to Dunelm to indulge in lovely new ones. (The latter I hope).

Have a good day!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 31/10/2022 10:08

AAAAH... best laid plans. DH had a slight headache so in a fit of caution we covid tested him before he went off to get his blood tests. Positive. And then me as well but I have no symptoms other than achey bones which is par for course as I have a number of horse riding injuries from times gone by. Both DCs negative and moaning about not going trick or treating.

Oh well. We are drinking about the 4th cup of tea and watching a film called Scorpio 1. Worse things to do on a Monday morning tbh!

RunningKatie · 31/10/2022 10:44

Oh no @OrangePumpkinLobelia - hope you are both feeling ok.
I've done a dash to buy sweets for trick or treaters as I realised the bag I had was a lot smaller than I thought.
Anyway, I am sitting with a tiny coffee at a very noisy trampoline park, the dc are in there somewhere! I've got wifi and a stack of unread magazines so am good for the next hour.

Peridot1 · 31/10/2022 13:22

Oh no @OrangePumpkinLobelia! What a pain! Hope it’s a mild dose for you both.

I have nothing in for trick or treaters so am hoping nobody knocks. Last few years dad bought stuff nobody came so fingers crossed it’s the same tonight. There aren’t many if any young children on the road any more and everyone around knows dad has died so I don’t think anyone will knock.

I went and stayed overnight with my youngest sister and had a lovely evening.

Got back and started a list of what needs to be done. Aaargh! And breathe. There is a lot to get done in the next week.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 31/10/2022 14:00

Thank you both. We are both quite fine at present so fingers crossed. I had terribly aching joints but this has cleared up. I am ironing and watching youtube. DH is catching up on e-mails. I have just turned on the electric blanket for Number One Cat.

The Dcs have negotiated popcorn and Mean Girls for this afternoon.

I am slightly anxious as I have asthma and an auto immune issue and have not yet had my 4th jab yet but will take it as it comes. Thankfully DH and the Dcs all had their latest jabs within the last 3-4 weeks. God Bless science I say!

Hope everyone else is fine and well. Thanks

Hooverphobe · 31/10/2022 16:45

For the love of god don’t eat the leftover sweets from trick or treaters.

this led me to an emergency dental appointment this morning because I pulled a filling out with a chewy strawberry. 😳

dentist said I was the first this week but wouldn’t be the last. 😂

petalpower · 31/10/2022 17:06

What a nuisance @OrangePumpkinLobelia . Hope the DC stay clear and you and your husband don’t feel too rough with it.
Ouch @Hooverphobe . Dentist trip sounds unpleasant.
How was the posh lunch @Solosunrise ?
I’ve had a productive day today so am feeling pleased with myself. Trip to local town this morning to drop keys off at estate agents and popped into Asda and Lidl to get a few Christmas presents and the last bits for the hampers. Made 9 jars of quince jelly this afternoon and weeded the vegetable garden. Going to a music rehearsal this evening.

Aria999 · 31/10/2022 17:23

Hi everyone.

The bathroom fitters did indeed arrive and are drilling away. We ran away and took refuge in a pizza restaurant (Monday is our kid free day off).

Solosunrise · 31/10/2022 18:36

Trust me @OrangePumpkinLobelia you will want your own apartment! Sons are not nearly as cute at 25! Much as I love mine, I don't even share his place when I visit...

I do hope you don't get too clobbered by covid Flowers

@petalpower you have been quite magnificent and I am impressed at your achievements. That's proper getting things done that is!

I have been thoroughly antisocial this evening and all lights are off at front of the house. We do sometimes make it clear we're up for trick or treaters and i don't mind the little ones, but the big ones take the piss and I can't be bothered this time.

Totally understand you running away @Aria999 I always do. DH is always certain we will be robbed blind so he organises these things for when he can be about, so I leave him to it. Used to be in security so I imagine he has good reason to view people as guilty till proved innocent.

I have done similar with sweeties @Hooverphobe How is the gammy eye?

Big hugs @Peridot1 I do believe you are handling A Lot!

Our lunch was lovely 😊 We has 4 generations of family gathered. Meal was delicious and everyone behaved beautifully though it did get noisy! Nice excuse to dress up and put some make up on. I needed a nap when we got home though.

Solosunrise · 01/11/2022 06:54

Morning all! Wild and windy here today.
I hope you are all ok and @OrangePumpkinLobelia you and your family are doing all right with the covid.

I've achieved quite a lot already today as weather woke me at 5am.
I am working on a decent morning routine that sets me up for the day. I often wish I was as good at getting up early when the children were little.
Cat favoured pooing on lounge carpet over her tray today, so that was a fragrant first job.

Have a lovely day everyone and I hope nobody gets blown away!

OP posts:
Hooverphobe · 01/11/2022 07:11

@OrangePumpkinLobelia i hope you’re both feeling ok and we’ll on the mend soon.

@petalpower im in awe! I’ve got a couple of nigella cookbooks and she always calls for quince - I’ve never seen it around these parts. 😂

@RunningKatie that’s my kind of parenting. “Off you go and have fun - mummy can see from the car”!

@Solosunrise we’re not too blowy here yet thank goodness as it’s recycling day which means untying the wheelie bins. Yep, I have to tie them down with ropes. Eye is behaving itself, tooth less squeaky today and now waiting for the appointment for the proper fix. Due to wonky nerves I leapt out of the chair so fast my shoe fell off which I think gave the nurse a fright . 😂 im a walking disaster zone. Tonight is yoga again which was lovely last week so I’m looking forward to that.

today I’m going to book the car in for its MOT - it’s not due for another 6 weeks but I want it booked.

the kids have got a wild social life here in the winter which gives me a lot of p&q. There’s so much laid on for them in the winter, they’re never home.

Solosunrise · 01/11/2022 07:45

@RunningKatie I too like your style! It makes me feel better as I felt the whole point of parenthood was to get a bit of peace and quiet whenever I got the chance encourage independe

OP posts:
Solosunrise · 01/11/2022 07:45

Independence, even!

OP posts:
Solosunrise · 01/11/2022 07:51

@Hooverphobe it's only wild and windy here by soft southerner standards. Our concession to the weather was to wait till this morning to put our bin out. It may yet blow over but hopefully it'll get emptied early. I did once have to retrieve all my recycling from my opposite neighbour's drive.
I suspect our wild and windy is your gentle breeze!

I'm full of alliterations today !

MarcelEtCeleste · 01/11/2022 07:59

I do love reading these kinds of threads. 😊

After a wet and wild evening trick-or-treating with friends, I’ve woken up feeling a bit battered (I always wonder how just getting rained on causes this feeling!) so I’m having a slow morning with some tea and a cuddly cat on my lap while the kids sleep in.

We’re going away for the rest of our half-term tomorrow, so I’ll be mostly doing laundry today (poor machines) and I’ve got some loose ends to tie up for work.

I must make arrangements for bonfire night and de-Halloween the porch too!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 01/11/2022 08:18

Oh yes i agree re waving the DCs off. The day i could sit with a book and a cup of coffee at softplay after years of having to [shudder] go in with them was a life changer!

Welcome @MarcelEtCeleste ! Cuddly cats are the best. ! (Cats pooing on carpets @Solosunrise not so much fun. ).

We are fine here so far. Although the wind is stressing me out because yesterday my (tricky at the best of times) neighbour rang me and complained with no small amount of anger about the leaves from one of my trees blowing into her garden. The tree is a good 3 metres from her fence, and i am not sure what I can do about the wind! (Or autumn).

Glad your eye and tooth are okay @Hooverphobe . I did ruefully smile at what your dentist said that as I have been there!

@Peridot1 you have so much going on and I am awed at how much you are managing to do. I think I would be an exhausted mess by now.

Today's project is to go through my clothes. I have little that fits or suits me as I am always waiting to 'lose weight' before buying new clothes. I have managed to diet 3 stone on in the past 2 years, although I have lost 7 pounds over the summer. I am going to take a strict eye to what I have and charity shop anything that does not fit. I am hoping to have a simple core of non-offensive clothes left then will buy 2-3 new things for the winter. I am nearly 50 and have no idea what suits me so if anyone has hints for someone who has a silhouette like a mushroom (top heavy, and thin legs) I'd be most obliged. Smile Thanks

Hope everyone has a lovely day!!

MarcelEtCeleste · 01/11/2022 08:44

Thanks @OrangePumpkinLobelia !

Good luck with the wardrobe refining. I’ve got to tackle mine once school resumes. I’ve also put on too much weight in a short space of time and absolutely nothing fits. I’ve bought a sort of capsule uniform for the winter in my new size with pieces that look okay (nothing stunning) and that will see me through whilst I tackle the weight but I’ve yet to go through all of my clothes and make room for said new pieces. I dream of the day I can open my wardrobe and easily pick out anything, knowing it will go together and fit! Sigh…

@Solosunrise Sorry to hear of your slightly less enjoyable experience with your feline this morning. Mine sometimes suffers with incontinence but after nearly losing him last year with a urinary blockage, I’ll forgive him anything now, the little rascal!

Solosunrise · 01/11/2022 11:23

Morning @MarcelEtCeleste and welcome to our meanderings! Leaving kids in bed and snuggling with a cat- I think all of us here can get behind that! My little one is ancient so I forgive her for the occasion accidental poo too.
@OrangePumpkinLobelia I too am a mushroom and whilst I can get clothes that fit, it's hard to find ones that flatter! I find a decent bra and wrap around tops are my best bet for formal attire. Sadly I have no arse so I have to make the most of my more splendid assets. But mostly I live in jeans and floppy tops because they are comfy.
I also aspire to having a capsule wardrobe but it's a work in progress. Your neighbour sounds like a twat about the tree. Friend of mine has a neighbour who is oblivious to her dog that barks day and night, yet threatened to call the police when my friend's grandchildren were playing in the garden at 4pm after school

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 01/11/2022 15:36

Afternoon!

Thanks @Solosunrise abut the very timely bra reminder. I tend to wear tshirt bras due to some ongoing back pain and realised this week that it certainly is not helping my top appearance. Blush I had thought I needed to go and get a proper fitting so will put that in my diary to remind me for when we are out and about again.

I have cleared out some drawers and have found that I have more clothes I quite like than I realised which is a good result in itself. I have also bought online some black suede shoes which are sorely needed for day to day (and work). They look lovely (online at least!) so I am pleased. I really ought to put aside a clothing budget for myself.

Neighbour can be a bit of a twat to be honest. We tend to be polite and civil but there have been a few things that have made me think Hmm in the past. We do try and be considerate but no doubt fail in ways we do not realise. The joys of urban living!! I hope the police told your friend's neighbour that she was way out of line!!

Thanks to another thread I also ordered some fridge and freezer organiser containers. I am getting alot better at keeping on top of grocery purchases and consumption but this will help. And I just love a good storage system. Like nice stationery, it's a weakness. Grin

Oh! And I booked an easter holiday! (Joys of payday and having unfettered access to the internet have been fully in evidence today!!!!). We are going to the Channel islands. I am very excited!

RunningKatie · 01/11/2022 17:19

I have been looking at holidays too! Sadly the cottage that was available to book on Saturday has been booked now. Curses to school holiday dates! Only another 9 years or so till we can ignore them.
Super productive day - food shop done, advent calendars purchased, library book returned (and on time!), fluffy bedding purchased for dc1 and I've started to clean the bathroom.
I am very worried I do not fit in my smart office clothes. 2.5years of wfh in comfy stuff means my waist seems to have disappeared off. Wondering if I can find it in the next 6 weeks just in time for Christmas

petalpower · 01/11/2022 20:09

My word @RunningKatie you have been very productive!
We’ve got a quince tree in our garden @Hooverphobe and there are about 100 fruits on it this year. A bumper crop!
When do you come back @Peridot1 ? You’ve been super busy with a very difficult job.
Welcome @MarcelEtCeleste - we’re a friendly bunch here!
Today I’ve been fielding stressed calls from my daughter who managed to spill vodka jelly on her laptop at the weekend (‘hardworking’ 3rd year uni student who needs her laptop for her studying). It’s at the menders and there’s been talk of motherboards which sounds expensive. I’ve been mostly acting as the buffer between her and annoyed DH, an exhausting role! Also done quite a few small and admin jobs in between my weekly exercise class and visiting auntie in the care home.

Solosunrise · 02/11/2022 16:12

Hello hello 👋
That sounds like some heavy duty parenting @petalpower It never really ends, does it? I too have done some heavy lifting in that department recently. But as @HooverPhobe said upthread, the kettle will always be on for them 💕 Or the phone at least.
@RunningKatie so much achieved and as for getting a library book back on time...that deserves a happy dance! In my house that is a real achievement! Do you need a clothes shopping trip or a plan of action to whittle the waist? Either will be worth it for an exciting new job!
@orangepumpkinlobelia glad to be of service re bra reminder. I love moulded bras (vivid memories of trying to find something supportive for riding all those moons ago before sports bras and moulded ones were any good)

Just back from a wearying morning at work. My lovely beloved has popped out to do some errands that i had planned, including flying visit to my mother. What I really yearn for is a nap, as I was in bed later than usual last night and still woke at 4.30am. But what I must do is run hoover round, get dinner on and put sheets on spare bed. Because that's how I negotiated to get DH out of the house for a while as he WFH and is getting under my feet! So just an early night I think.

Hope you're all having a happy and productive day!
