We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Thank you, I am loving the boring jobs lists. I too have to look at our mortgage but first I need to find the house alarm instructions as the app isn't working.
We had to empty a loft a couple of years ago, we had a bad leak and so much was ruined. Nightmare! It's all sorted in plastic tubs now the shed is a different matter

Solosunrise · 19/10/2022 21:29

Congratulations @RunningKatie It sounds perfect! 🎊

Congratulations @RunningKatie! Well done. Sounds like it will be really good for both you and your DH.

Miserable morning here.

Got house tidied yesterday for cleaners and they didn’t come. Well they would have but I cancelled them as they were going to be so late.

My list for today is to send documents to my sister and make a start on the spare room. I’m out for a bit this morning so won’t get much done until afternoon.

Solosunrise · 20/10/2022 08:20

Morning all! It's gloomy and drizzly here too. Still very mild though.
I have the house to myself today! DH is off to the office. I love him dearly but it's just so nice to spend some time alone! I think I'm going to go for a walk before i do anything else. I have some online courses to complete and definitely need fresh air and exercise before being able to concentrate.

It's taken me a while to relax into the empty nest/part time work combination without feeling guilty. It still feels a bit decadent to just do my own thing like taking myself off to go for a swim or just read. I've just got the book 'The Artist's Way' as I'd like to be a bit more creative and it is a sort of course to get the creative juices flowing.

A thread on here about getting a home smelling fresh mentioned washing down kitchen walls because cooking smells linger there. I have not washed my walls (beyond obvious splatters- I'm not a complete heathen!) since they were painted 9 years ago, so that shall be my chore for today. Along with the cupboard fronts for good measure.

That is great news @RunningKatie !!

I am starting my council tax thingie today. I was wrong- it looks like we have been overpaying about £450.00 not £600.00 (Counting is not my strong suit!) but that will make a big difference if I can get it rebanded down. It seems to me we have an iron clad case, but we shall see......

hope everyone has a good day today.

petalpower · 20/10/2022 15:13

£450 is still good news @OrangePumpkinLobelia ! How has the wall and cupboard washing been going @Solosunrise ?
I’m lacking much motivation here today. It’s dismal outside and cold inside too. DH says no heating until the weekend though. I’ve menu planned for next week, added to the supermarket online shop and been to have lunch with a friend. Also sorted out a big pile of birthday cards which included cards for my daughter’s 18th and son’s 21st. I’ve kept them for their memory boxes along with other cards from their grandparents. I’m a bit sentimental about things like that. Currently putting off second dog walk of the day as it’s cold and wet.

Aria999 · 20/10/2022 15:22

Good luck with the council tax @OrangePumpkinLobelia

I am struggling to do useful things as I keep getting distracted by Mumsnet ☹️

Yesterday I had a blessed few hours of paid work that cropped up unexpectedly from my one and only client, after that I faffed till it was time to get the kids.

Today I have sent lots of emails trying to sort out a mistake I made in my volunteer activity, changed the sheets, and am now in that mode where there's too much to do and I don't know where to start...

Solosunrise · 21/10/2022 07:46

Morning all! I ended up spending quite a lot of yesterday chasing up a doctor's report for something i set the ball rolling for in December last year. Appears that because my local hospital sent me to a more distant one to ease a backlog, the report was not sent to my GP, but to the consultant who referred me out of town. And who has, apparently, sat on the info for over a month. GP surgery's attitude was to shrug and say it's nothing to do with them, and I was sent from one dept to another, and back again. Then it was 5pm and nobody was answering phone. But hopefully I know where to start today. It's probably nothing, but it could be something, but I'm frustrated that I have had to do the chasing. I'm capable of it, but what if I wasn't?
But the kitchen walls did get washed.
I too spent more time on MN than is reasonable yesterday. Doing an overnight at work tonight. Always seems a good idea to volunteer, but the night's are looong! Come 2/3am I always wish I hadn't.

£450 is still much better in your pocket than in theirs @OrangePumpkinLobelia!

@petalpower it was miserable yesterday. DDog didn’t get much of a walk here. I have lots of cards and memory box bits for DS that I keep meaning to sort. I didn’t keep any birthday cards and I wish I had now.

I know the feeling about getting distracted on here @Aria999. Between here and Twitter and the news channels on tv yesterday I got nothing done!

that all sounds very frustrating @Solosunrise. MIL has quite a few medical issues going on and she spends soooo much time chasing things she shouldn’t have to chase herself.

I did nothing yesterday really. So need to get going with things today. And I think I need to start adding a walk in daily for me too. Not just a quick wander around the field with the dog.

We found out yesterday that the sale of my Dad’s house is now delayed by at least two weeks. Not sure what to do about going over next week. Just not what we needed with everyone having booked time off to clear the house etc.

TightDiamondShoes · 21/10/2022 08:59

@petalpower it’s pretty grim but in these cases you need to wait until whatever it is becomes so tight their breathing is hindered and/or they get a blood infection. Otherwise they’re just too fast to catch and as soon as they’re in the water you’ve as much chance of catching them as you would catching a blob of frogspawn in a running bath! 😔 but the vets and the sanctuary have handled these cases too many times to count, so I’ve confidence the fat furball will be fine in the end.

I suspect mine will need mummy/MH days when they’re older. Kettle will always be on.

we had a weird day here yesterday (it was in the news) - but life carried on pretty much as normal. Eventually told if there were problems to flag down the police who would help. None of us saw any police the entire day. The kids roamed the village and went fishing together rather than be glued to screens and I read an entire book.

I’ve collected another big laundry bag to take to the charity shop tomorrow, but haven’t achieved much else.

I’m due to go back to work on Monday having been off since august. Not sure how I feel about it tbh. I’ve got bills to pay obviously, but the price on my health may be too high.

today I will prune (I.e., attack with secateurs) the rose bush by the gate which has turned into a prickly monster and attacks me when I leave the grounds.

TightDiamondShoes · 21/10/2022 09:03

@OrangePumpkinLobelia my sister took her local council to a “meeting” about her CT and won and got it reduced. So perfectly possible!

@Solosunrise battling the endless paper trails of the NHS is enough to do any of us in and make us not want to battle it further.

I think the volunteering and exploring an artist's life are wonderful occupations.

petalpower · 21/10/2022 13:09

Assume you’re in the Shetlands @TightDiamondShoes . Is the situation sorted today? Good luck with the prickly rose! What a nuisance about your dad’s house @Peridot1 . When I don’t know what to @Aria999 I always start by making a list even if I don’t do any of the jobs on it!! Medical follow up is such a pain @Solosunrise . I’ve been trying to find out how long it will be until my cardiac MRI that I was referred for 16 weeks ago. Heard from the cardiologist’s secretary today that it’s likely to be another 8 week wait. Hopefully I’ll be seen before Christmas.
Today I’ve had one of my most satisfying mornings where I go out and complete lots of jobs on the same trip. Because we live rurally I feel like I’m making the most of the car journey. Dropped off glass recycling, filled up with diesel, picked up some bits for two hampers I’m making for Christmas, picked up keys from the estate agent, dropped off soft plastic recycling and went to butchers and greengrocers. Now sitting with a cup of tea and an orange Twirl!

Peridot1 · 22/10/2022 09:21

Morning all.

Cleaned ovens and stove yesterday. Oh ok I’ll be honest. A nice lady came and cleaned them! Lovely and sparkly now. I did have to get up early and tidy the kitchen so she could get at it all! And after she left I cleaned the floor under the stove which I had been dreading. The ovens drip for some reason and there were lots of drips just underneath behind a metal trim which is removable. Took me less than a minute!

I sent off documents to my sister that I needed to. And had a chat to her and decided I will go over this week as planned. Instead of one large skip we will book one small one and clear out all the small items that are in cupboards, attic etc. Then we can get another one to do all the furniture items that we can’t move yet. We don’t want to move large furniture items out as the house is so shabby anyway it would look dreadful if we moved out the furniture. And hopefully we will know a bit more about when we will complete on the sale by then.

Need to take the dog to the vet this morning for a post op check - she had a lump removed from under her eye ten days ago.

And this afternoon I am DEFINITELY starting on the spare bedroom.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 22/10/2022 09:47

Morning all. Just checking on to say and have a good day everyone! Thanks

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 22/10/2022 10:53

I have just washed all the DCs school uniform, including PE kit and ties and blazers. [blows on fingers. Pats self on back].

petalpower · 22/10/2022 12:06

Very impressive @OrangePumpkinLobelia !
I’ve just bought a Laura Ashley rug from eBay to replace the one that the dog chewed the side of when he was a puppy. I’d bought another replacement and very smugly thought I’d swap it over the other day but found that the first replacement was about half the size of our old one and I obviously hadn’t measured before buying it. What a twerp!

Are you saying you've done their school uniform now instead of having to rummage at the bottom of the laundry basket the day before the go back?

Kudos to you! (I so badly wanted to be that mum, and managed it probably 50% of the time!)

Solosunrise · 22/10/2022 12:42

Ohh yes we know where you live now @TightDiamondShoes Be afraid....be very afraid 😂

Well i survived a night's work. Apart from having to stay awake, it's very easy, and I'm grateful for my kindle as basically I sat in the dark all light. Feeling jet lagged now. Just had 3 hours sleep, then an early night should see me right.

There has been some real magnificence going on with you lot! I'm off to do horse things and get some fresh air, and then I plan to clear out and clean two kitchen drawers. Husband is head chef today because I won't be able to see straight by teatime.

Why yes! [smug alert]

However I think there is a very strong possibility I have shrunk DS1's blazer. I have hung it up and pulled at the bottom a bit.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 22/10/2022 13:29

Aaah @Solosunrise doing horse things. How I wish I were doing horse things today. How lovely. Thanks

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 22/10/2022 13:35

I also wish with all my little heart @TightDiamondShoes that i were in the Shetlands. It's been a dream of kine for quite some time. I hope the power is back on though and no more hiccups!

Hooverphobe · 22/10/2022 17:40

So now you all know where I live, shall I put the kettle on or break out the 🥃? 😁

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 22/10/2022 17:53

is that emoji a hit toddy? @Hooverphobe because I am right there. Smile

In the fullness of time I'd love a Daily project pub meetup one day. :)

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 22/10/2022 17:53

RunningKatie · 22/10/2022 17:58

I love a hot toddy!
We are away for half term, the cottage has a Sheila's Maid in the garage. I was so happy to see it.
DH has gone out in search of curry and beer. What a hero. I'm resting my sore feet and making sure the dc behave.
