Daily Project - Round Two!

We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Thank you @Solosunrise. Auntie enjoyed her lunch. Losing lots of vocabulary now and very frail but still enjoys a good pub lunch, a glass or two of wine and a cigarette on the way out! DS has now gone back with me pressing various food items to his hands on the way out. He only graduated last year and is just coming to the end of his first year in his job. DD is in her final year at uni.

Solosunrise · 17/10/2022 06:36

Auntie sounds fabulous! And so do you for taking her out Flowers I have a couple of clients who have dementia and they are great company. It's such a cruel disease though, taking people away bit by bit 😥
My children are a bit older than yours and now all employed/self employed but DH and I still send them home with food parcels and petrol money Blush

I think I may be your auntie @petalpower 😉

yesterday I went out for a long walk with my walking stick 🙄 and ended up having to call the wildlife sanctuary. A poor seal had something stuck around its neck which was giving it deep bloody wounds. Trouble is, they need to wait until it’s “really ill” until it’s slow enough to catch. Thankfully it had already been reported and is being monitored so I don’t have to try and trek over there daily.

today I’m picking up prescriptions and returning a rug to Amazon. I hadn’t even bothered opening it because when you order a 7’ x 5’ rug and it arrives in a box the size of a giant cornflakes box and is delivered by the Royal Mail you know it’s not quite what you had in mind. Unless someone at the Amazon depo has some world-class origami skills I mean…

im also going to make paneer. According to my recipe book this is literally milk, lemon juice and salt. Stand by for disaster.

I hope everyone has a lovely productive Monday.

petalpower · 17/10/2022 15:04

😂@TightDiamondShoes . I didn’t picture you as an 86 year old lady!
Thank you for the Flowers @Solosunrise . I see my aunt at least twice a week and it’s sad losing her little by little but I’m glad I can be there for her and make sure she has everything she needs.
I’ve been trying to upload my photos to Photobox but am having some technical issues to do with the amount of memory on my iPad and something to do with the iCloud. It’s absolutely not my area of expertise but I think I’m getting there now by downloading an app onto my phone. DS was going to help over the weekend but he had a work crisis and didn’t have time. It was much easier in the days when you went to the chemists with your roll of film!!
In other news I’ve been to return a top to M and S that I changed my mind about and made an early start on some Christmas shopping whilst I was out. I know it’s very early but there are relatives that we will see in November who can do some present deliveries on our behalf if I get organised in time. Saves having to just choose presents that can be posted. I’ve also ordered an advent calendar for my nephew. He’s nearly 30 but has autism and lives in a care home. I buy him an advent calendar each year but last year found that the postage cost more than the calendar (he likes a traditional picture one) so this year have restricted myself to an A4 size one which will be cheaper to post.
Reading all that back makes me sound as though I have a very dull life!

Peridot1 · 18/10/2022 08:17

Love the vegetable hospice @TightDiamondShoes! It’s definitely soup weather.

The poor seal. Hope they manage to sort it before it’s hurt much more.

Doesn’t sound dull at all @petalpower. Sounds pretty normal really. All the little bits and pieces we need to do in daily life.

I’m feeling slightly more human but still sneezing and nose blowing like crazy.

Did some admin stuff yesterday and managed to stuff up the property valuation for my Dads house. So needed to rectify that. Very easy to put the house in a higher band. Not so easy to put it into a lower band when you realise you got it wrong. Needed to submit supporting documentation for that. And I paid the tax on the higher valuation too of course so now we need a refund.

I gave up on trying to do much after that and just made some phone calls and did some other bits I needed.

Today I’m getting my hair done at lunchtime so a few things to do this morning before I go.

outoftimeagain · 18/10/2022 09:26

Work has been crazy this last week and I dropped off this thread completely. I have a day off today but I’ve hurt my back so won’t be doing much. DP and I are going to see a mortgage broker this afternoon as our fixed rate finishes in January so at least there will be one thing ticked off the list by the end of the day.

So far this morning I’ve dropped DP at work and done a small food shop. I’ve seen a Christmas movie on Netflix (Christmas with the Coopers) that I fancy so I’m going to put my feet up and watch that. A rest is very much needed here. Hope everyone is well.

Solosunrise · 18/10/2022 12:46

Hello everyone! @TightDiamondShoes That's heartbreaking about the seal. So glad the wildlife people are aware. Pleased you are getting out walking even with stick. How about nordic walking poles? You'll feel really athletic with them! Love the vegetable hospice!

@petalpower none of that sounds boring, and you sound very kind!

@Peridot1 that bug has really clung on, hasn't it? Hope you feel better very soon! You really have your hands full so I hope you enjoy being pampered at the hairdresser 😊

Hello again @outoftimeagain 🖐 Mortgage sounds like an excellent daily project! Sorry about the back but what a great excuse to watch a Christmas movie 🤶

I've also tweaked my back but it feels better when i keep moving. I've been trying to gather family members for a meal in December and it feels like herding cats, trying to find a date that suits everybody. I'm really enjoying today's weather. We have a golden autumn day today. Storms forecast for the end of the week though. I've just got in from a short work morning and I'm excited that i have nowhere i need to be for the rest of the day, so I'm planning a good potter which will include a bit of gardening.

I'm going to have to write a bit of a to do list or I'll flit about and get nothing done!

OP posts:
OrangePumpkinLobelia · 18/10/2022 13:02

Hello all!

I am definitely flitting about. But have my flu jab today so that will be out of the way at least!

I hope the poor seal is okay @TightDiamondShoes Hope your back is also okay @Solosunrise

best wishes to everyone. Thanks

petalpower · 18/10/2022 13:04

Welcome back @outoftimeagain . Getting the mortgage sorted sounds like a huge achievement and a good thing to have ticked off the list. It must be a finance type day as we have an online meeting with our financial advisor this afternoon for our annual review. My weekly exercise class was cancelled due to the instructor being ill so I’ve had an unexpected morning at home. I’ve tried to get some pesky jobs done but they’re all so dull I can’t even bring myself to write them down! Beautiful day here too @Solosunrise after a chilly start. Enjoy your pottering!

Solosunrise · 18/10/2022 16:22

Ah @OrangePumpkinLobelia you've reminded me! Must book mine. Happy flitting!

@petalpower I have thrown old papers away, dusted, hoovered, sent a card, washed and dried a load, and even put it away. I have cleaned the cat's tray, swept patio, changed sheets in spare room and wiped down kitchen appliances. And I cleaned the kitchen bin and the landfill bin. So I think I can compete with you for boring jobs.
DH is off doing errands and when he returns we are planning to watch a film and eat smug stew!

OP posts:
petalpower · 18/10/2022 17:03

Oh go on then @Solosunrise you’ve enticed me into sending you all to sleep with my list of tedious jobs! Towels changed and line dried, bin moved ready for refuse collection, two birthday cards written, manky potatoes and onions sent to a happy resting place (not smug soup alas), plastic widget that fell off the shower surround glued back on and summer shoes moved out of the utility room cupboard. Also name labelled new socks for auntie. It’s like having another child as I’ve also recently sent in a harvest festival donations and am going to a relatives evening later this week!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 18/10/2022 17:26

Tedious job list bandwagon jumping here; flu jab attendance - 2 hours early Hmm ; cat litter tray x 1; beds made; kitchen worksurfaces done; one shelf in fridge cleanedl flu jab attendance round two (successful this time but hurty); school run done and about to have a a smug pub dinner after meeting DH off the train as he was in London for a meeting.

However, thanks to some serious lurking on some of the credit crunch threads I have discovered that we are in a higher council tax band than anyone on our street despite everyone being in identikit terraced houses. So I am about to start preparing supporting evidence for a council tax band review request. That ought to have us about £600 a year if successful. (Fingers crossed).

petalpower · 18/10/2022 17:30

All welcome on the tedious job bandwagon!

Solosunrise · 18/10/2022 17:51

Go you @OrangePumpkinLobelia! Impressive detective work! Enjoy your pub dinner!

OP posts:
outoftimeagain · 18/10/2022 21:53

I love reading people’s lists of things they’ve done @Solosunrise and @petalpower Well done you’ve both managed to achieve so much.

Hope you’re ok after your jab @OrangePumpkinLobelia and good luck with the council tax £600 saving is massive!

New mortgage all sorted now and the interest rate wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, such a relief. This evening I ventured up into the loft which is currently an awful dumping ground. I could have cried looking at it all. I clearly have some unmet need and think shopping and buying more ‘stuff’ is going to solve all my problems. The stuff up there is just ridiculous and I’m so overwhelmed by it all. DP has agreed we will sort it out this weekend. I wish I didn’t need his help to sort stuff out but I know that if I was left to do it on my own it just wouldn’t get it done. I did manage to fill a bin bag for the dump though, put 5 things on Vinted (1 sold already!) and make a charity shop pile so at least I’ve made a start.

Solosunrise · 19/10/2022 08:33

Morning all Brew
@outoftimeagain you've done brilliantly by making a start with your excess clobber!
I recommend just decluttering just a bit at a time. My ex was a 'collector' to put it politely and when he left, he left all his crap behind. It took me a couple of years to get rid of it all.
Some days I did a couple of trips to the tip, other days I got rid of one thing.
If it's any consolation, our loft was a sight to behold! Now it's useful storage space for a few bits that are easily accessible.

There are some great simple living/minimalist blogs and podcasts if you need inspiration. I recommend Joshua Becker or Courtney Carver for starters, if you like that sort of thing.

Today I am planning to make the most of the tedious bog standard things that were achieved yesterday (ie house is currently tidy) and declutter/clean our study area.

Peridot1 · 19/10/2022 09:13

Morning all. Managed to lose a long post again. Don’t know if it’s me on MN.

@SoloSunrise - I realised yesterday that it could be allergies as well as a cold so took an antihistamine and hey presto! Much better!

Hair appointment was good.

noting much else achieved except tedious jobs.

Good luck with the council tax @OrangePumpkinLobelia. That would be a great saving.

@outoftimeagain - just chip away at it. You’ll get there.

Solosunrise · 19/10/2022 12:41

@Peridot1 I lost a couple of posts recently when the page started jumping. Meant I inadvertently clicked back a page which cleared the text box Halloween Confused
Pleased the antihistamines helped. I wonder if this is why beechams and lemsip work such magic as they contain them i think.

I'm quite pleased with my morning's achievements. Off to do what I get paid to do now, clutching the craft project i started at the weekend

Waves to all 🖐

@outoftimeagain my attic is the only immaculate thing about my house! Our house is so old (about 500 years) that we don’t put anything in the attic at all. You’ve made a good start though!
Today I’ve been doing admin (paying bills, replying to emails etc), visiting auntie in the care home (she was pleased with her new socks and ate all the sweets I took!), made myself available on the phone for DS who’s having a bad MH day and had a bit of garden therapy pruning the raspberries and picking pears.
Hope everyone’s had a good day. What is your craft project @Solosunrise ? Has the antihistamine chased the germs away @Peridot1 ? Any news on the seal @TightDiamondShoes ?

RunningKatie · 19/10/2022 18:37

Evening all, just quickly dipping in as ddog needs walks. I got the job! I'm gobsmacked as I sat in the morning having a good cry that I couldn't cope. Now I have to figure out balancing full-time work with mum duties etc. It's hybrid, 2 days in office and 3 at home so that's perfect for me to get my people fix.

I am so excited, and dh might now drop a day at work which will probably help his mental health. Plus he can pick up all the washing, ironing etc., that I usually do on my day off!

Will be back later to properly catch up.

petalpower · 19/10/2022 19:05

Congratulations @RunningKatie ! 🍾

Aria999 · 19/10/2022 19:31

Awesome news @RunningKatie !
