The brief was "chocolate heaven"... would you be happy with this? And how much would you pay for it?

Not keen. Far far too fussy. Maybe about £10.

Give over 🙄

Ohdofuckofdear · 18/08/2022 18:27

Honestly it looks amazing, I'm shocked your not making them professionally!

I'd say £60 plus easily.

Darkstar4855 · 18/08/2022 18:29

I thought this was going to the one of those threads where someone complains about the cake not being good enough and I was looking at the photo think “well that’s really good, how could someone not be happy with that?”

It looks amazing, OP. I’d say about £40-50.

I’d expect to pay roughly £100 . I think it looks great .

mondaytosunday · 18/08/2022 18:29

Cost the ingredients. Add a bit for your time. I'd pay a friend £25 for that easy. If it was out of a bakery I'd expect to pay close to £50 or more. Those special order cakes are about £30-40 at places like Waitrose.

hairymclaryforever · 18/08/2022 18:30

About £50 but not more than that

If it's for a good friend and they asked you if you'd make them a chocolate heaven cake and then absolutely insisted they pay, I'd just ask for cost of ingredients as id be happy to have spent time making something a friend would enjoy.

ancientgran · 18/08/2022 18:32

My husband would love that cake. I'm surprised the ingredients only cost £20, are you sure you've costed everything and don't forget to add a bit for gas/electric. At current rates I'm frightened to put the oven on.

Pixiedust1234 · 18/08/2022 18:33

It fits the brief perfectly, and it looks lovely. If someone gave me that I would be a very happy pixie.

No idea of price as I have never had one made. If the person is insisting on paying then maybe charge a friends rate of £30 ?

Quackpot · 18/08/2022 18:33

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am sure you can only charge for cost of making if you are not a properly registered food business?

TheFormidableMrsC · 18/08/2022 18:34

My friend is a professional baker and her cakes are works of art. Some are similar to this. She charges between £70 and £125 depending on the size and spec. It's a lot of work and ingredients so I think it's reasonable to charge in that range. She's never short of orders. We're in the SE if that makes a difference.

GraceandMolly · 18/08/2022 18:35

I’ve not read the comments. The cake is not
to my taste as too much happening there, but I would guess £70

Tillyvonpantsalo · 18/08/2022 18:39

I'd be very happy with it. Charge am extra £30 on top of your costs.

Round here I'd expect to pay £80 upwards for it.

Can't believe some people have said £10 and that it's very amateurish. I think it's lovely, well done.

19lottie82 · 18/08/2022 18:40

£80

Cervinia · 18/08/2022 18:42

Ravenblack1 · 18/08/2022 17:06

It looks amazing. I love the ice cream cones. I dunno, 40 - 50 quid?

This for me, maybe nearer £40 but I like it, it wasn’t cheap on ingredients.

Okaaaay · 18/08/2022 18:43

I would expect to pay £80 for that, it’s lovely (some people may even charge more). Very generous of you OP

drspouse · 18/08/2022 18:43

The ingredients would be more than £20 - at least 35 with the price of butter in particular.

Meraas · 18/08/2022 18:43

£20 is low for ingredients. Ask for £40.

Basilthymerosemary · 18/08/2022 18:44

I've paid £60 for a much simpler 3-tier buttercream cake.

So you could charge more than that but if it's for your friend- then it's up to you.

It's lovely by the way- although I think we'd struggle to eat it al!!!

Cervinia · 18/08/2022 18:45

Greensleeves · 18/08/2022 17:17

That's the issue, I didn't want to charge anything, but the person I made it for is insisting...I think I'll say £20, that'll cover the ingredients.

The danger is that she will ask you several times a year for that, double it.

PeriodBro · 18/08/2022 18:45

I think it's really pretty! Not the type of chocolate I especially like, but it looks great. I would say at least £30-£50.

MinervaTerrathorn · 18/08/2022 18:47

I wouldn't buy it as it is not my kind of cake at all (don't like milk chocolate and easily find things too sickly). I prefer simple cakes that aren't overly sweet. If a friend made it without a prior arrangement to pay then I would expect to cover ingredients.

Elfbeth · 18/08/2022 18:48

I agree you should cover the cost of the ingredients at a minimum. Can’t imagine the amount of work something like that takes so am in awe.

Feel free to share more pics of your creations….😍

LoisLane66 · 18/08/2022 18:50

Only read 3 comments. My guess is 65 if it was bought from a patisserie but as you made it and it's got commercial sweets and a Mr Kipling cake on it, I'd charge 40.
