The brief was "chocolate heaven"... would you be happy with this? And how much would you pay for it?

Mates rates £30

Blowthemandown · 18/08/2022 17:27

Just charge for the ingredients and if they want to offer more, a charity donation. Otherwise, round here, 9” cake - £45-£60 ish?

shazzybazzy34 · 18/08/2022 17:29

I think it is class, perfect for a chocolate lover.

If you’ve made it for a friends, perhaps just charge them for the ingredients and add a bit on for the time it took to make it.

If it’s a new business venture -i’d say £35.

SummerBummers · 18/08/2022 17:32

Easily £50 of cake, being 9 inches probably more like £60

Chesneyhawkes1 · 18/08/2022 17:32

I'd love that cake and expect to pay £80 for it

Comedycook · 18/08/2022 17:32

It's impressive for a home/hobby baker. I'd not be hugely impressed if a professional did it.

I'd say £45

MassiveSalad22 · 18/08/2022 17:32

I personally wouldn’t because I sell cakes myself 😄 it could be a bit more polished but it’s vastly better than a lot of the rubbish I’ve seen being sold! £85 but I’m shit at pricing.

whatwasIgoingtosay · 18/08/2022 17:35

I'd eat that cake! 😋

Loopyloo1985 · 18/08/2022 17:37

As an ex cake maker this is very good, well done you! Personally if they are insisting on paying I would either ask for enough to cover your ingredients or tell them what your favourite wine is??
For a nine inch cake with all those layers, professionally done with cake board etc you could charge upwards of £60, so if you decide to start doing this properly don't undersell yourself!

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 18/08/2022 17:38

It looks super yummy

QueenofLouisiana · 18/08/2022 17:40

I paid £70 for a similar cake last year.

RisingSunn · 18/08/2022 17:41

I would expect to pay £45ish for that - from independent bakery.

LookItsMeAgain · 18/08/2022 17:41

What is the cake under all that adornment - if it's chocolate biscuit cake then that would affect the overall cost of the cake. If it's a Victoria Sponge, then that's obviously going to be cheaper.
I think it's too fussy but I'd probably pay £35-£45 depending on what the actual cake is.

Anjo2011 · 18/08/2022 17:41

There’s a lot of expensive decoration, im going with £90. It looks impressive but I bet it’s a nightmare to cut. I prefer a Vikki sponge and buttercream but I know you didn’t ask that! So yes, £90 is my guess.

Onandupw · 18/08/2022 17:25

Oh mumsnet will be disappointed your post is because your having a Nice Off

Damn straight Grin

OP, cost of the ingredients is more than reasonable, if you made it as a gift I would consider your time the ‘gift’ part.

I reckon you could get £70/80 for it round by me if you were selling it as a personalised order.

laurelleafs · 18/08/2022 17:44

I think it's fantastic (and heavenly ;-) ) No idea about pricing though

mumda · 18/08/2022 17:44

40 quid would be the expected price locally maybe a bit more.
I'd eat it. All.

Rainbowshit · 18/08/2022 17:44

It looks amazing. I'm not sure why so many are being so negative. I would say £70. The chocolates on top would cost a fair bit as it is.

Adversity · 18/08/2022 17:46

I think making that cake as a gift was very sweet of you, literally!
Brief has been hit. But I think the donuts and glacé cherries spoil the look a little. I think charging 25 would cover it well.

TeapotTitties · 18/08/2022 17:46

I'd happily pay £60 for that.

It looks very professional OP.

skyeisthelimit · 18/08/2022 17:46

When I enquired about a cake for DD's birthday, it was one covered in various chocolate bars/sweets, and that was in the region of £30-£50 depending on how many layers it was.

AppleBottomRats · 18/08/2022 17:47

I’d probably pay £40 but I would have expected all of the cake to be chocolate flavoured with that brief I think. And I probably wouldn’t have put the doughnuts, Jaffa cakes or ice cream cones on, and would have gone for more actual chocolate instead. Although the ice cream does look very impressive!

Denny53 · 18/08/2022 17:48

Looks great to me. Well done OP! If I got that for £20-30 I’d be very happy!

saddenedsosaddened · 18/08/2022 17:49

I paid 60.00 eueo in Dublin for something slightly smaller than your one and much less grand! Yours is beautiful, you would pay at least 70-100 euro here for it. :)
