The brief was "chocolate heaven"... would you be happy with this? And how much would you pay for it?

I think that six factor layering idea of yours, with the vanilla and the strawberry is terrific. It's going to give it a real sponge centre as a basis, not just loads of chocolate on a thin and insipid centre.

I personally think your judgement is really good, in the blending of ideas and textures. I bet you'll be really good at interpreting customers' briefs as to what they want. Even the using branded items is good, because, after all, who does know chocolate, if notTerry's and Cadbury?.. A chocolate aficionado is going to want that, rather than horrid cooking chocolate for the only choccy flavour. The best way I can describe this cake style is 'generous', inspiring and capturing the style of a celebration.

KindleBlanketsandmugoftea · 18/08/2022 22:18

That cake is fantastic! I would pay around £40 to £50. Chocolate heaven indeed 🍫

SummerLovin123 · 18/08/2022 22:19

Just charge for the ingredients if they insist.

It’s ingredients plus your time OP so charge accordingly. 50£ would be fair I think.

AdobeWanKenobi · 18/08/2022 22:20

OP it’s beautiful. Well done you!

and as for the posters trying to out twat each other, hilarious.

Theimpossiblegirl · 18/08/2022 22:27

It's lovely.
Not everyone's taste but the time and ingredients alone would be £40+
I wouldn't pay less than £30 to a friend for time and ingredients and I'd think I had a bargain and also give wine.

Oaktree55 · 19/08/2022 17:50

£100

Oaktree55 · 19/08/2022 17:51

£100 is based on London and Home Counties I have paid that for less intricate cakes. I am sure some of the replies are farther afield.

LovelyIssues · 19/08/2022 18:01

Looks amazing! I personally wouldn't pay the price the cake makers charge as I can't afford it but I can see why they charge so much as its their ingredients and time

Tuskanini · 19/08/2022 18:02

Tell them what the ingredients cost, and how much time it took. But make it clear that the time is your present to them.

Hope it's not for a cake smash. You could get something in your eye! :-)

Elvisismycat · 19/08/2022 18:06

Blimey £20!!! Can I have your number please 🙏... I'd pay £60 for that.

DragonflyNights · 19/08/2022 18:07

I’d pay between 40-50 for it.

bemusedmoose · 19/08/2022 18:10

It fits the brief and as a cake maker easily £40-50. But you don't say how big it is or how many you asked them to make it for.

Cissy1962 · 19/08/2022 18:11

It's great, if you like that kind of thing, and I'd expect to pay £50 - £50 for it, if it was made by a specialist cake maker.

PeachyPeachTrees · 19/08/2022 18:13

My friend does these kind of cakes with bought stuff placed on top and charges £60 which I think is too much as an amateur can do it. If ingredients are £20 then maybe just ask for that?

Cissy1962 · 19/08/2022 18:13

I meant 40 - 50 quid

LovelyLisa2 · 19/08/2022 18:16

£30

Soerdu · 19/08/2022 18:18

There's a lot of legality on charging for food. It's actually quite restrictive and annoying. If it's a one off it's probably fine but wouldn't make a habit of it.

Wowser!

I'd say that's over £100!

whataloadabullocks · 19/08/2022 18:20

I think that's a bloody brilliant cake, I love the chocolate donuts on the side and ice cream cones 9in and six layers is not cheap to make. I think the minimum charge should be £30.
Defo answers the brief 😋

linsey2581 · 19/08/2022 18:21

I would say about £50.
I had this cake made for my daughter and it cost me £140 it was for her 18th so was worth it!

Would you pay for this cake? And how much would you expect it to cost?
Strawberrycola · 19/08/2022 18:22

I think it looks great. I love the ice cream cones!

Debbacat6 · 19/08/2022 18:22

Its a bit shabby looking
Did a kid make it?
About twenty five quid top whack..cheap confectionery stuck all over it...yuk

Strawberrycola · 19/08/2022 18:23

I’d say £30-£40

Wonderfulstuff · 19/08/2022 18:23

In the south east it would be expected to pay £80-100 (probably nearer £100 now due to the increase in cost of materials).

Hope you enjoyed making it OP - I'd certainly be delighted to eat a slice!
