Partner in agony.. but won't let me take him to hospital!

Last night at around 7pm, my DP started to get chest pains similar to heartburn. We kept an eye on it, and he took some heartburn relief gaviscon to try to ease the pain (which he said didn't touch it)

Come 9pm and he was doubled over in agony.. he's been up all night, sick every 45 mins / an hour and is white as a sheet, shaking like a leaf and really clammy. His chest is agony he says, and nothing I've tried to give him has eased the pain whatsoever. His back and shoulders are now hurting, too.
I've just woken up to find him lying on the bathroom floor to try to help his back. I've never heard him be sick like he was last night.. and he's almost in tears with his chest.

For context, he had gastric sleeve surgery in February this year, and I'm concerned it could be connected to this? I wanted to take him down to A&E but he insists he doesn't need to.

I'm really concerned..

I disagree - an ambulance and paramedics will assess and give treatment / pain relief on the spot.

I think the advice these days is to get there by car if you can do it quickly - even for heart attack and stroke it’s taking longer than average for ambulances to arrive, plus, others have pointed out, the wait for a space in A&E

TheWitchOfShields · 16/08/2022 19:52

I had something similar back in March. I eventually rang 111 and they sent me an ambulance. I had cholecystitis and ended up very poorly. I hope he gets checked out 🤞

Wonnle · 16/08/2022 19:53

And that's the end of that .
OP never to post again on this thread ?

Given how she described her husband's condition it's safe to say that he's seriously ill. She's almost certainly tied up with that right now and this place will be the least of her worries. All we can do is send love and hope that everything turns out well for both of them.

Oh, certainly.... 🤔

winewolfhowls · 16/08/2022 20:15

Best wishes to your husband, this is a really scary situation.hope he got seen.

CountessOfSponheim · 16/08/2022 20:22

If OP's been in hospital with her husband (or even if she hasn't) and has returned to see the actual debate on "things we can attack the OP for" in this thread I think the chances of her returning and posting an update are distinctly slim.

Whether she posts again on this thread is far less important than whether her husband gets the medical help that he needs!

Best thoughts for them.

SummerHolidaysAgain · 16/08/2022 21:08

I really hope your DP is okay, @itsoneofthosethings

CambsAlways · 16/08/2022 21:11

I wouldn’t listen to his excuses I’d call 999 at the end of the day it sounds like heart attack

HikingforScenery · 16/08/2022 21:16

Wishing your husband well, OP.

Nocutenamesleft · 16/08/2022 21:26

Friend of mine had gastric sleeve surgery. Ended up incredibly sick after the surgery but kept getting robbed off. She had an attack very similar to what your suggesting and ended up nearly dying due to adrenal crisis which is really rare but was caused by the gastric sleeve surgery. I work in the medical field and I must say I don’t like these at all and have seen too many go wrong.

I hope he’s ok

Salome61 · 16/08/2022 22:20

Sending you good wishes OP, I hope your husband was seen and is being looked after.

kateandme · 16/08/2022 22:27

Much love op.sounds horrific.
if your getting him help right now our thoughts are with you.
I have 2 instance where I’ve seen these symptoms 1 my friend with heart failure
the other who has sepsis and after an infection of the lung caused an embolism.
both wouod have been fatal if left.
go get that man help by any means.

Newnameforthistopic · 16/08/2022 23:08

Calling 111 would be my choice. If ambulance is sent they may be able to start treatment before driving off from your house.
My friend was given an ecg and stabilised before getting to hospital. Some Ambulances are like a mini hospital.

VeganPesto · 17/08/2022 00:07

hope he’s on the mend soon, OP

Any help would be so appreciated

Any update @itsoneofthosethings
Hope he’s ok and you x

Becgoz7 · 17/08/2022 00:34

Hope you are at the hospital.

Has he eaten something to make him dump. Could be an ulcer but they should check everything

Catclown · 17/08/2022 00:37

Hope everything is ok x

Immediate help from a hospital is needed, getting there and being attended to is a more complicated matter.
A relative's appendix was removed last month after an initial 14 hours of 111 and promised calls from a doctor. The instruction was finally given to make his own way to A&E and when they got there to join the queue, a woman with a suspected stroke (partial paralysis down one side) wasn't seen for 5 hours.
Would an ambulance arrival be seen any quicker?

It was yesterday @TongueTwistr - about 24 hours ago. Something like that.

Herejustforthisone · 17/08/2022 00:50

I always assume these threads must be wind-ups, knowing posters will fall all over themselves to find out if the OP has posted a diagnosis. If not, then the mind boggles.

TongueTwistr · 17/08/2022 00:53

@HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd
I'm aware of the timings for the OP.
I was asking the whether self-delivery results in faster attention, or if waiting for an ambulance to be available is faster.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 17/08/2022 01:17

Oh you mean in general? I see.

Fraaahnces · 17/08/2022 01:18

That or she took everyone's advice and he's now in hospital having coronary surgery and she's stuck there without phone service.
